The 2025 Junior National Finals is set to return to Emerald, Qld and will be held in conjunction with the Emerald APRA Pro Rodeo in July Further information to come The Emerald Rodeo Committee have been long time hosts of our Junior NFR, and we thank them for once again taking on this important event. The 2025 APRA Annual General Meeting will be conducted in Mount Isa on Wednesday 6th August with the location yet to be confirmed. We encourage each and every member to attend, participate and have their say on the association’s business and rules. Agenda items and notice of motions will be called for in coming months.
HEAD OFFICE FROM THE
A busy start to the year for Head Office! As I write this, we’ve already had 28 rodeos since Christmas!! A big shout out to my team in the office for all their hard work keeping the rodeo machine in Head Office up to speed.
We’ve also had a couple of milestones in the office with Logan reaching her 2 year anniversary with the APRA, Janelle 1 year and Jess almost 1 year Most of you would have spoken to all 3 girls at some point when contacting the office and I thought I would give a quick overview of their roles
Logan handles the draw process; working with stock contractors for sections, livestock numbers and generates the draw The draw is randomly drawn after the section numbers and livestock have been entered into the system Once a draw is generated, Logan uploads to the website She also generates and emails all the rodeo paperwork for the event to the committee
After the rodeo, we both check off the judges sheets and results, and while I process payments, Logan enters the results into the system They are then uploaded to the website She also helps with social media, and general office duties
Janelle is our committee person She enters rodeo applications into the system and publishes them to the website calendar She assists committees with their applications, follows up rodeo officials and handles risk management forms and insurance certificates of currency During all this she also answers the phones and emails
Jess is our receptionist, answering the phones, processing day member entries and membership cards.
March & April are busy months for entries so please note entry dates especially some events who may be earlier like Ride for a Roof and Sydney Royal Easter Show. The APRA Event calendar on the website is the place for all your entry information as well as the Rodeo News.
APRA Software Development, we are well into Phase 3 of the program which is designing an affiliate portal for committees. Thank you to Xelleron and Kayla Grayson for their continued work on our program – it’s a work in progress so stay tuned for exciting improvements.
As publicised in the last month’s Rodeo News, the APRA 2025 Ariat National Finals Rodeo will be held in Scone, NSW 27th-29th November 2025. Please note that as per 20.15 Contestants must compete at a minimum of 8 APRA affiliated points award full rodeos in the regular season to be eligible to compete at the National Finals Rodeo and to eligible for an Open Australian Championship Title. Non residents must compete at a minimum of 12 APRA championship rodeos to be eligible to compete at the NFR or win an Australian Championship.

Dear Members,
Firstly, I would like to thank Jane Ryan for her unwavering dedication to the Breakaway Roping portfolio, I have the pleasure of being in the position temporarily until the next AGM at which time the position will be made vacant for re-election. Please you reach out to myself or another Competition Board member if you have any queries or questions that we can assist you with especially now as the season is well underway and the southern rodeo calendar in full swing.
Recently the Executive and Competition boards had a joint meeting, it is fantastic to see a cohesive leadership team and a united approach on the way forward for the association. It is always a good sign when we can pull together to ensure the association keeps moving forward in a positive direction, we do however need your help as members to keep that momentum going.
The Competition board is very excited with the recent announcement regarding the NFR location in Scone at The White Park Equestrian Complex from the 27th to 29th November 2025, it is such an exciting opportunity for our members to have access to such a great facility.

23-year-old cowgirl, Ellysa Kenny is having a 2025 season to remember She currently leads both the Ladies Barrel Racing and Ladies Breakaway Roping national standings and has a dominating lead in the All Around Cowgirl race At the M5 Echuca Pro Rodeo she took that dominance one step further, becoming the fastest breakaway roper in Australian history when she stopped the clock in 1 55 seconds to break Abbie Smith’s previous Australian record (which had been equalled earlier that morning by Mackenzie March) of 1 6 seconds
ON THE GAME PLAN THAT NIGHT, KNOWING THAT A 1.6 RUN WAS ALREADY LEADING THE RODEO....
“My mum told me before I roped to just go for second place & she should have known that didn’t sit well with me. Just before it, I told my younger brother I was going to be 1.55, so I guess you can call that manifesting something into existence. I knew I drew a stronger calf & decided to just try and make the most of it. .”

“Ted’s try is what makes him special. He radiates all his confidence into me; honestly, it’s hard to explain, but he knows my next move before I even know it & I guess that’s because we have both kind of grown up together. From day one he tested my resilience, but I’ve always known he would walk through fire if I asked him to. He’s my once in a lifetime.”
ON WHETHER SHE THINKS SHE CAN GO FASTER AGAIN...
“The calibre of breakaway roping in Australia at the moment and the depth of girls competing is probably going to make me have to be faster again someday.”

“I’ve grown up walking down the hallway of my family’s home seeing two Australian Record plaques on the walls, so to be able to put one beside my dad’s is going to be pretty sweet for me Every time I get to rope off that horse is special to me, so to do it on his back is everything to me ”
ON THE RUN ITSELF....
“It felt smooth & slow motion. Once I saw the figure eight crack around I knew it was going to be fast but I didn’t know record breaking fast. Ted stops so hard my rope breaks away so fast which is where we make up the time usually. ”
ON HOW SHE CAME TO BE THE FASTEST ROPER IN AUSTRALIA...
“In September, I was the fastest I had ever been which was 1.7. From there my confidence grew and I’ve been riding that high all the way through to now. Under 2 seconds felt out of reach until I did it once & now, I’ve done it a handful more times. I concentrate on keeping my horse feeling good and roping the dummy consistently sharp. The rest takes care of itself; if you’re meant to win that day you will & if you’re not you won’t. We get so caught up in the end result that we forget it’s something that we do and not who we are. I’m just having fun roping against my friends & some of my hero’s.”

The Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre (ARHC) is solely dedicated to the spirit of rodeo and the cowboy. Located at 4 Alice Street in Warwick, QLD, ARHC is a space created in 2006, originally funded by the Australian Government through several regional development programs, the Warwick Shire Council and the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
The museum’s collection is a treasure trove of relics that chronicle the evolution of rodeo from its humble beginnings to the electrifying spectacle it is today. Visitors can marvel at an impressive array of exhibits, including antique rodeo gear, vintage photographs capturing iconic moments in rodeo history, and even authentic cowboy attire worn by legendary riders of yesteryears. Beyond its role as a museum, the Rodeo Heritage Centre is deeply rooted in the local community, serving as a gathering place for rodeo enthusiasts, historians, and aspiring cowboys alike The Rodeo Heritage Centre Museum also proudly houses the Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) Head Office, further solidifying its status as a premier destination for rodeo enthusiasts.
A pillar of the ARHC is the Hall of Fame, with inductees being honoured each year. An inductee committee is made up of 3 people, each with rich knowledge of the ARRA, APRA, GRA and WPRA This committee is responsible for deciding on inductees annually from those nominated Inductee candidates are considered based on their contributions to the ARRA, APRA, GRA and WPRA through continued support of the Associations and the preservation and continued growth of Professional Rodeo in Australia, as either a person, organization or committee
The ARHC Committee kindly encourages anyone with memorabilia, memories, or stories, from rodeo’s rich history here in Australia to reach out via the APRA office. If you would like to nominate a candidate for the Hall of Fame, you need to complete and submit the form which can be found online at www prorodeo com au/australianrodeo-heritage-centre to the APRA Head Office by 30th June. The Inductee Committee will look at each nomination and determine their final candidates for that year by 1st August.

COMPETITORS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR COMPANIONS. All competitors will be allocated one companion pass each, if you have an extra family member needing a companion pass - ask a fellow competitor for their spare pass otherwise you are able to purchase an extra companion pass from Jan Parker at the secretary office on the day. 5. Noise curfew's are in place at all M5 - 11pm. Please be mindful of this times. 6. Cancel Outs via the Member Portal - Until 12 noon Monday (the week of the rodeo unless otherwise stated. A fine of $5 applies per rodeo to all cancel outs. After this penalties as per Rules 22.1 to 22.8 apply.
Late entries are Friday to Monday 12 noon unless stated differently below If there are more than 12 in an event, a late fee of $50 applies. 12 noon Monday is the absolute latest to enter, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will further entries be taken after this time The only exception is if there’s less than 12 in an event
All times are strictly Queensland Eastern Standard Time where daylight savings does not occur
Entries are only open on two days except where there are entries for five or more rodeos. Check entry dates carefully! If entry dates fall on a public holiday check this page for altered dates/times
All contestants must have a zero balance in order to enter rodeos. If you have unpaid fees you are currently ineligible to be put in a draw.
False communication with the Entry system, regarding entry procedure ACTION: A fine of $30, first offence; $60 second offence; $100 upon the third complaint.
