Your PRECIOUS kindness creates Champions - for Change!
Nikki is a trained social worker and educator you support in Nepal. She helps women and girls to know that they are precious. Nikki says:
“In this community we have a lot of gender-based violence. I give counselling to women experiencing this.
“The number of early child marriages has also decreased a lot.”
I also teach young girls using the “Champions for Change” program. It includes training on hygiene and sanitation, early child marriage, and child rights. We teach the girls where to get help and how.
Some girls can’t afford pads so use dirty rags instead. This can make them sick with infections. We provide them with pads, buckets, mops and soap. We have found that infections have decreased because of the training.
The number of early child marriages has also decreased a lot.
Early child marriage is not ever good and should be avoided. Their bodies and emotions are not yet ready. Both the mother and baby are in danger with an early pregnancy.
My hope is that this program can be extended to improve the lives of more girls and women.”
As she helps girls become champions for change, Nikki also models courage.
“I am proud that I can go outside my house to work. Most women here are not allowed by their husbands to leave the home. I’m glad that my family accepts this.”

Pancakes, plants and preci os hearts
What a joy it is to see young hearts being nurtured in Lutheran schools – growing in compassion, inspired to action, and serving the world’s poorest with ALWS.
At Tarrington Lutheran School, Victoria, those hearts are flourishing!
Students explored the question, ‘What does it mean to be poor?’, hearing firsthand stories of life at Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps – places your kindness reaches – and were moved to action.
Students held a Mother’s Day stall in May, selling handmade gifts and homegrown plants. Teacher Josh shared:
“Students discovered ALWS’s approach to aid: supporting communities to establish or improve small businesses, so people can support themselves.
Students pitched their own business ideas, simulating the real-life experience of applying for support through ALWS and its partners.”
Students raised $500 to support vulnerable families through ALWS.
The compassion kept growing! The school also held a Pancakes for Purpose event on Shrove Tuesday, joining Lutheran churches, schools and workplaces in the launch of the ALWS PRECIOUS campaign.
This is the joy of ALWS and Lutheran schools working together – growing compassion, inspiring action, and helping children flourish.
