Welcome to Succession 2024

We arrive to March with a burst of excitement and fulfilment as we make our way into our sixth year of practice-based findings, creating art for performance spaces. Leading with connection, a strong sense of purpose and togetherness, our ensemble of dancers once again bring resounding strength and curiosity to their creativity Their efforts of leadership and confidence have developed in a very short space of time, and I am very excited to see what the future of our ensemble will accomplish in 2024. As supporters of these young individuals, I know that we are all eager to cheer on the enthusiasm and talent that they all share for their developing art form and as their ensemble director, I feel very honoured to share it.

Congratulations!

Succession returns in 2024 with an exciting program where our young Youth Ensemble artists are front and centre as key contributors and collaborators of their own creative vision. What started out as a singular envelope crafting multiple outcomes of chance, has transformed into a decisive whirlwind of masterful decision making to arrive to ‘The Playing Field’

ADC Company Artist, Lilly King, brings her new work ‘15LOVE’ to Succession this year highlighting the performative absurdity of a tennis match, and we return with ‘Automaton’, choreographed by Youth Ensemble Director, Riannon McLean crafted in 2021. A robotic notion and interpretation of how we view the human form as a selfoperating machine

As its name suggests, Succession is a key platform in ADC’s commitment to actively developing the next generation of dancers and dance makers

ADC are focused and committed to create meaningful opportunity to each of our ensemble members so that they may have exposure to both our main stage company as well as inspiring industry professionals Their experience, purpose and artistic journey is what makes this program incredibly special. They celebrate each other’s highest achievements and continue to flourish not only as individuals but as a unified ensemble

15LOVE touches on the similarities between a dance performance and a tennis match

Myself and the six Youth Ensemble artists (Angela, Aaliyah, Amelie, Matilda, Mia & Vivelle) have collaborated to create this short work - there is no way I could have made this without the efforts of these fabulous artists We are working with set choreography and improvisational scores to highlight the performative absurdity of a tennis match
