WILDFLOWER

2024 ADC Mature Ensemble

WILDFLOWER

28-29 June 2024

ADC STUDIO

JUDITH WRIGHT ARTS CENTRE

WILDFLOWER is a visual, poetic work, equally puzzling and chaotic, joyous and disquieting.

Performed by a phenomenal group of women, WILDFLOWER highlights their intuition, resilience and wisdom, unfolding an expanse where empathy blooms graceful and free.

Choreographer’s Note

WILDFLOWER expresses how we can survive even in the most adverse conditions with dignity, grace and empathy.

The courageous women of the Mature Ensemble have worked together bringing their resilience and fearlessness to create a work both joyous and disquieting. I thank them for their contributions and commitment, their trust and respect.

Like a wildflower we grow strong and thrive no matter the conditions, finding beauty and joy in abundance around us.

THANK YOU

Wendy McPhee

CHOREOGRAPHER

Wendy (aka Eddie) McPhee is an innovative performing artist and creator with a career spanning four decades. She collaborates with artists and community members to make provocative, unapologetic performance work that resonates with its audiences. Quintessentially Australian and internationally relevant, her practice includes work for black box theatre, cabaret, installation and non-traditional venues. In the collaborative process she looks to make performance work that matters to the artists, the community and the audience.

In 2021-22 she was Mature Program Coordinator for Australasian Dance Collective and is choreographing WILDFLOWER for ADC’s Mature Ensemble. Her current projects are DoubleTake (video installation), The Catalogue of Forgetting (community project) and Rough Cuts & Fast Lanes. She encourages people to stay open to possibilities and find joy in creativity.

ADC Mature Program

Australasian Dance Collective believes creativity, community and artistic spirit know no age limit. The Mature Program encompasses three streams of opportunity: Mature Classes, Mature Creative Intensives and the Mature Ensemble.

Aimed at those who are 50-plus, this program facilitates a range of movement practices, fosters a sense of community, promotes healthy living and positive ageing. Our tailored program invigorates and inspires, developing your physical and creative skills in a welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating environment.

We invite you to connect with yourself, your physicality and your community. Our weekly Mature Classes are designed for anyone who has an interest in moving their bodies, joyously. No previous dance experience is necessary.

ADC Mature Program is supported by Richard Wood.

Australasian Dance Collective acknowledges the assistance of the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
