Working in a Salon & Spa over the years has allowed me to educate people about how important it is to take care of their skin, nails, hair and body. You can’t shortcut your appearance, it is how people recognize you. While we’re all different, a healthier appearance means a healthier you, and truthfully, that’s all that matters. What inspires you about your work? I enjoy watching people experience a physical transformation that allows them to enjoy an equally powerful emotional transformation. If you look good, you feel good, and that positive energy filters to all facets of your life. Making people happier about themselves is always rewarding and inspiring work. What sets you apart from other spas? We help people. Whether it’s taking a mini vacation by enjoying a relaxing massage or looking your absolute best on your wedding day, it’s about you first and foremost. In 20 years, I’ve seen spas come and go. Some try to be trendy while others want to create a club-like atmosphere with hot shot stylists. We keep things simple and elegant. Our focus is on our clients, not ourselves. Why is it important for women who plan to conceive to have pre-conception counseling? You should discuss many things with your doctor prior to conception so you can try to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. At a preconceptual visit, a review would include: Chronic medications and prenatal vitamins, routine vaccine recommendations, options for genetic screening, possible diet changes and items to avoid. What sets your department apart from other providers? For obstetrical care, our patients are seen by their physician for the majority of their routine OB visits (with very few exceptions) as opposed to being seen by mid-level providers such as nurse practitioners or physicians assistants. What inspires you about your work? It is an absolute honor to be able to assist at the birth of a child. I feel so privileged to assist women through all phases of life from the time when they are younger and first becoming sexually active through pregnancy and then through menopause. What’s one piece of advice that you think expectant mothers should know? The most important goal in pregnancy is safety of the mother and child. When Ame Frezza and her family moved to Austin from Illinois in the mid1980s, two things were born: her youngest daughter and one of many successful businesses.
