Which Masterworks Series Concert are you most excited about this season?
I am most excited about “Summertime”, our last Masterworks Series Concert I actually met Carlos Simon, one of composers featured in the program, a couple of times in Atlanta, where he’s from! I am also very excited about Porgy and Bess It is a great story with great music, and it is not performed very often
What is your dream piece to conduct?
I have a list of three! First is Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade. Second is Villa-lobos’ Amazonas. The last one is Say’s Istanbul Symphony.
Scheherezade Amazonas Istanbul Symphony Porgy and Bess
Do you have a guilty pleasure artist/song?
Shake it Off by Taylor Swift!
Do you have any pets?
I have two cats, Mala and Orfeo They came to Texas with their own kitty passports and visas!
Do you have a favorite dish?
I love Asian dishes! I will always order ramen or Taiwanese spicy noodles. I also love dim-sum and bao buns!
What are you most excited about in joining the ASO?
My answer is three-fold. I deeply admire Peter Bay and appreciate the opportunity to learn in having him as a musical and leadership role model. I am also excited to work with both amazing musicians who are committed to making great music and a supportive team and staff here at the ASO. Lastly, I look forward to working with the talented young musicians of the Austin Youth Orchestra.
Your generous contributions to the Peter Bay Artistic Fund have directly impacted the Central Texas and Austin community in the last year, most notably through the ASO’s addition of an assistant conductor and our ASO ABOUT TOWN Series. Pablo’s engagement with the community has been invaluable, from his involvement with the Austin Youth Orchestra to his Spanish narration of our Tuneful Tales presentations at Austin’s Public Libraries!
