t Austin Prep, we believe that community is one of the most important parts of a strong structural network between students. This year we had 33 Seniors with siblings at Austin q } Prep. Relationships with + upperclassmen create + opportunites for important }) peer-mentor interactions and friendships. Megan Wilcox : ’23 reflects stating, “In my mind, he (Aaron ’25) was )) always my little brother, and now he is a sophomore in high school.” As a school, we don’t only value the ) advancement of siblings « bonds, but also the individual success of our students.

CLASS OF 2023
Dear Members of the Class of 2023,
In choosing Austin Prep, you chose to join a Catholic school community in the Augustinian tradition. That tradition has helped form in each of you an Augustinian Heart to guide you, inspire you, and give you courage on the Journey ahead. Through your Augustinian heart, St. Augustine will remind you that the measure of love is that love has no measure.
I have a special place in my heart for the Class of 2023. Your graduation coincides with my tenth anniversary as Head of Austin Prep. Thank you for being great companions with me on the Austin Prep Journey, and for your tremendous academic, athletic, and artistic contributions to the heritage of Austin Prep. I’ve been inspired by your example of all things veritas, unitas, and caritas.
There are 140 graduates in Austin Prep’s Class of 2023 and all of you will travel beyond 101 Willow Street into a complex and currently polarizing world, a worldwith artificial intelligence on the rise. I recently asked AI a question: “If the whole world followed the Rule of St. Augustine, could we end polarization?” And here’s what AI told me: “If the whole world followed the Rule of St. Augustine, it would likely contribute to a more harmonious and compassionate society. The principles of community, humility, peace, unity, and fraternal correction promoted in the Rule can foster understanding, empathy, and respectful interactions among individuals.”
Artificial intelligence, however, will not stop wars between nations, it will not stamp out bigotry and intolerance, it will not promote unconditional love, or solve our most pressing challenges. What will make the world better is the human intelligence of an Augustinian Heart. With your Austin Prep diploma in hand, you enter the world and begin the next part of your Journey — with your Augustinian | Heart. And the world needs more Augustinian Hearts out there.
Thanks to you and the graduating classes before you, our struggles will be lessened, and challenges overcome with more veritas, unitas, and caritas. Your job on the } Journey ahead is to be the Augustinian Cavalry, just like the thousands of alumni before you. It’s an important responsibility. And you have to do it away from technology and away from artificial intelligence so that you can build — person to person — here on earth what St. Augustine called the City of God.
Austin Prep Class of 2023, may the Lord bless and keep you, may He be kind and gracious to you, may He make His face shine upon you and give you His peace. Good luck, Godspeed, and get out there — we're counting on you!
God bless you,

Falling into Place
ay he Fall season in Austin Prep’s 2022-2023 school year went extremely well. We started the year off with our Convocation Mass to welcome the seniors and bring the community together. This year we continued the tradition of the parade of flags. Bishop Mark O’Connell celebrated the mass, now joined alongside the Sisters after welcoming them into the Austin Prep Community last year. The Fall athletic teams had a successful introduction after joining the NEPSAC league. Phil Renzullo ’23, member of the Boys Soccer team shared, “With the guidance of the coaching staff along with hard work and commitment from all of the players we had a pretty good season.” This season was capped off by the Girls Cross Country team winning the Division NEPSAC Championship! Fall ended off strong for the seniors, taking them to the most magical place on earth, continuing the Austin tradition to Disney World. Nora Lafferty expressed, “T really liked Epcot!! I thought it was super cool to see all the different countries, and found that I could even apply some of the things I’d learned in my language class (Mandarin) while in the park.” The season concluded with our annual schoolwide Blue Mass to honor First Responders and their families. Overall, it wrapped up to be an amazing start for the Austin Prep community.

Convocation
Valuing Unity
n September 9, Austin Prep @) celebrated their annual Convocation Mass. It was a time for the community to come together and unite under the core values of Austin Prep - Unitas, Caritas, and Veritas. The mass started with a parade of flags from countries far and near, accompanied by class banners representing the sudents from sixth through twelfth grade. Derek Daley ’24, reflects on his role, stating, “Representing my class by carrying the 2024 flag was a great responsibility... it (Convocation) leads to a successful and enjoyable year.” The students wholeheartedly enjoyed participating in mass on the sunniest day in September. Jackie Brand ’23, gave a speech opening the assembly. When reflecting on her it she commented, “As school-wide President, I love being granted the honor to get up in front of everyone and speak at our school masses. My speech at Convocation was also my first real speech in front of a large audience, and it was really exciting.” Seniors Valeria Centinaro and Fiona Cullen also continued the tradition of raising the Senior banner. Additionally, Bishop Mark O’Connell came to celebrate the mass with our community, making the liturgy especially important to Austin Prep students and families. The community looks forward to celebrating Convocation again next school year.

Blue Mass
Recognizing Bravery
ah he Blue Mass celebration at Austin Prep is always an unforgettable experience, and this year was no different. The community came together to respect and honor those who serve to protect our town, school, and state. Celebrating with us included staff, students, and Rev. Ray Dlugos, the Merrimack College Vice President of Mission and Ministry. A daughter of a first responder, Caitlin Connors ’25, reflects on the challenges she experiences stating, “Being a child of a first responder can be difficult. Not knowing if they are safe or if they will come home is always a thought in the back of my mind. When my dad walks through the door after a day of work, Above: School-vide President I feel a sigh of relief. have immense appreciation for the Jackie Brand ’23 addresses bravery it takes to keep people safe and that he risks his the school and first responders life for others.” The Blue Mass was especially important to before mass. Caitlin as she was able to appreciate all her father and his peers do for us. In similar fashion to last year’s Blue Mass, Fr. Dlugos blessed the first responders and their vehicles. From the Austin Prep Community and beyond, we thank and recognize those serving and protecting so that we can live freely.

Where Dreams Coine True
T he Class of 2023 took the annual Senior Class trip to Disney World in November where they all had the time of their lives. It was a great break from their busy schedules where the Seniors were able to spend more quality time with one another outside the hallways of AP. Many of them rode e: on thrilling rides, tried sensational foods, and saw exceptional a = displays. One night the Seniors enjoyed a show in Epcot after Above: Seniors take in the beautiful eather the class dinner with Dr. Hickey. Alyssa Mangino shared, “The and attractions in Walt Disney World highlight of my trip was going to the Be Our Guest restaurant in Belle’s castle and eating dinner in the ballroom. It was so beautiful and the food was amazing.” The Seniors were also given the opportunity to explore the parks. Jared Cruz noted, “My favorite Disney park was Hollywood Studios because of Galaxy’s edge, the Tower of Terror, the Beauty and the Beast show, etc. The rides were very fun, the shows, like Fantasmic and Beauty and the Beast, were amazing and spot on, and the shops were delightful”. All in all, the trip was one they won't soon forget!

he Austin Prep Game Day Cheer team showcased their impressive skills on the sideline this fall. The girls brought their spirit and excitement to each football game through their tight choreography and superb stunts. The team’s sideline tumbling was a show stopper as the fans and student section cheered them on during autumn afternoons and evenings. The highlight of the season was cheering at Fenway where Lily Caron ’24 shares her experience, “One of my favorite memories from the Fenway game was when we walked down onto the field. Just all taking in this once in a lifetime opportunity of cheering in such a monumental space, and especially to be with my best friends.” It was an exciting way to end an enjoyable season!

stunt during he Austin Prep Competition Cheerleading team was busy this fall truly putting the CCL in the work that led them to an unforgettable season. The team started the season pear manss off with a bang at the Tewksbury Memorial High School Cheer Invitational where the girls finished first place. In addition to this impressive victory, other wins were achieved through their unwavering dedication and strong work ethic. The team’s as she does a most notable accomplishment was earning the 2022 CCL Championship title, a perfect way to finish an amazing season. Captain Ava Colella ’23 reflects back on her experience during the journey to the top, “Our motto for the season was ‘no regrets’. We said this before ev ery comp, meaning that we wanted to do everything we can so that when we walk off the mat we know we did our job and it was just in the judges’ hands, rather than wondering what we could have done better and wishing we pushed a little bit harder.” The girls were goal driven and motivated by a close bond. They left everything they had on the mat allowi ing them to perform their best and leading them to a top place finish!
Above: The team poses for a photo, celebrating a first place win at CCLs.
GirlsCrossCountry
Goals Turn to Gold
Ak he Girls Cross Country team had an impressive and historic season. The team worked hard to close with an undefeated dual meet record of 11-0 with three invitational wins. The girls then competed in the NEPSAC Championships where both the Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity teams won the Division II Championship Race. Senior Sydney Pilla commented, “From the start, we knew we had a chance at winning championships, which soon became the focus of the season... we all had each other’s backs and knew that the only way to win was to make not only ourselves better, but to push each other to do the same.” The team’s strong mindset and motivation showed in every workout, run, and meet of the season. When asked what contributed to the success of the team, Caroline Kelly ’23 reflected on the season saying, “Probably the way we all pushed each other not only during practices but also during meets. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve heard someone thank their teammate, after crossing the finish line, for running with them and setting a challenging pace.” This is exactly what the team did to achieve the first NEPSAC championship in Austin Prep history. They ended the season with strong achievements in a new league, reaching the goals sought out in early September!

Our younger players all gave their all to make the last season the best for the Seniors.” Along the way, they had some great battles in competition, including an overtime game against Pingree. Team Work Makes a Dream Work
he Austin Prep Football team had a very competitive season. The team saw some of the best teams in New England and had the opportunity to face off against some fierce competition. Although the skilled and powerful opponents made for a challenging season, the boys learned to stay motivated and never give up. Griffin Carr 23’ quoted, “We obviously played better teams this year than previous years but we still stuck together and entered every game with a winning mindset regardless of how it went.” The team learned that one of the most important aspects of athletics is the mindset of your teammates and made a point to enter every game just as excited and pumped up as the first of their season. With Austin Prep’s addition to the NEPSAC, the team had the opportunity to play at some beautiful schools and venues. Nathanial Bibault 23’ said, “The highlight of my season would be playing at Fenway.” Just before Thanksgiving, the squad got the chance to face off against St. Mary’s at Fenway Park and fought hard in a great game. The school community also took advantage of the opportunity to pack the stands and enjoyed a day of football in the city. Overall, the team had a memorable first season in the NEPSAC and look forward to rising to the competition come next fall!

On and off the court this team represented sportsmanship and always having each other’s backs. A s the snow fell in Winter, the Austin Prep Community was busy with various competitions, athletics, and performances. When asked to reflect on this year’s Nutcracker performance, Olivia Ferri ’23 replied, “In my seven years at Austin, I have always looked forward to the annual Nutcracker production. It felt like all of the joy and hard work I put into rehearsal came flying out onstage.” Dancers and non-dancers alike were able to showcase their impressive skills and hard work to the Austin Prep community and beyond. Olivia Ferri ’23 contributes her unique perspective, having performed in the Nuteracker for the past seven years, “I’m very lucky that Mrs. P took a chance on me in sixth grade and allowed me to express my passion for dance. It was definitely a full-circle moment for me to play the Queen of the Land of Sweets in my Senior year as I performed the role of Clara in the sixth grade. My Austin experience has been forever changed by these friendships and this memorable tradition.” The cast was incredible, and they look forward:to seeing where the Nutcracker productions take them when the holiday season returns!

When Daniel Holmes ’25 was asked what factor contributed to the success of the team he commented, “We outworked every other team. We worked hard and got better every day. If we had a race, practice, or workout our mindset and mentality didn’t change. Our team wanted it the most and we didn’t stop or slow down until the job was finished.” The team’s motivation and desire for the title showed during practice and competitions. Captain Dario Filadoro ’23 reflected on his season saying, “The highlight of my ski season was the moment when we found out that we got first place at the NEPSAC Championship... we were champions and getting hype in front of everyone while receiving the trophy.” Everybody on the team was beyond overjoyed after being crowned the winners. ch he Boys Swim Team had a great first NEPSAC season, breaking four school records in the meantime. Dan Cory ’23 broke the 200m IM, 100m fly, 100m breaststroke, and Alex Barone ’27 broke the 500m freestyle. When Serry Gouveia ’23 was asked about the overall season he answered, “There was the challenge of the new league, and though most of it was similar, we did have a few tough/close meets. But those were the most fun.” The team also had pasta parties before every meet which helped boost team morale and chemistry. In addition to the close connection they formed, Enzo Carminati ’24 added, “A big factor that contributed to our success was a balanced line up. The team has at least one or two people who are strong in every single event, so that no matter who we competed against, we always gave them a hard time in every race.” This helped lead to a sth place finish at NEPSAC Championships at WPI to close out the season, with Cory as a double winner in the 200 IM and the 100m breaststroke. ith the warmer weather and blooming flowers came the end of the school year for the Austin Prep community. The campus was bustling with athletic activities, arts events, and traditions. It was the first time that I truly realized that dancing at Austin would be over in minutes and that our high school experience was coming to a close.” Spring sports teams had an exciting time making new memories as they competed against competitive NEPSAC schools for the first time. When Janna Vounessea ’25, a member of the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team was asked what contributed to their success, she answered, “We all motivated each other to stay strong through the whole season, everyone brought out the best in each other and pushed each other enough to achieve the record we got.” The Class of 2023 wrapped up their high school years with a beautiful commencement ceremony celebrating their hard work and dedication. With caps and gowns, the Seniors walked across the stage with their heads held high looking towards their futures. Serry Gouviea ’23 looked back on his Austin experience and reflected, “Wow, seven years have gone by so fast! I’ll always be grateful for my time at Austin, but I’m excited for this next chapter and looking forward to what lies ahead.” To close out the academic year, students were treated with a visit from Ben and Jerry’s and the Middle School capped off their year with a field day. When asked what the season was like competing against new competition, Alyx Rossi ’25 commented, “A factor that motivated our team was the new league. Izzy Henderson ’25 reflected on one of their most competitive games stating, “A game that I remember the most is the game we played at Worcester Academy. This game lasted for almost 3 hours. We played 10 innings and went into international tiebreaker rules. Everyone was cheering on each other. I felt so much support from my teammates. Although this game was super intense, my teammates were there for me and supported me until the end.” Although the team fell short of a win that day, they stayed positive and carried each other through it, just like every other game, win or loss. n May 19th, the Class of 2023 assembled C) together on a beautiful day with friends, family, and faculty to celebrate their high school achievements at their annual Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement. It was a long anticipated day that was highlighted with awards, speeches, and remarks. Even at the very end of one’s journey at Austin Prep, one is still able to achieve personal growth. Caroline Kelly, the Class of 2023 Salutatorian reflects on her experience having to give a speech at Commencement, “As it is, I struggle to present in front of a class of twenty students, let alone all 140 graduates and their many family members/guests. However, even though I was anxious from the time I arrived on campus until I was called onto the stage, as soon as I started speaking, I became more confident.” Caroline’s words not only recalled her time at Austin, but they spoke of all the good the future holds for this extraordinary class. In a moment of reflection, Valedictorian Olivia Ferri commented, “My favorite memory at Austin has been the focus on our Journey. I’ve been at Austin since the sixth grade and it feels like 101 Willow Street is all I’ve ever known. It’s amazing that seven years have gone by in the blink of an eye and I am so grateful for the »| experience of a lifetime and the people I have met along the way.” To mark the start of a new beginning, the 140 graduates flipped their tassels signifying the end of their journey at Austin Prep.

Mission & Inclusion
Uniting Communities
he Austin Prep community had lots of great moments this year celebrating diversity around the world. Students took part in various activities that highlighted Austin Prep’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, such as a field trip to the dedication of the Embrace Sculpture on Boston Common in January. In Mrs. Martiniello’s Spanish classes, students deepened their understanding and awareness of cultural and ethnic diversity as they learned about the life of Fr. Tolton. Fr. Tolton was the first black Catholic priest in America, who would later be proclaimed venerable in the path of becoming canonized into sainthood. The Austin Prep community also celebrated the Lunar New Year. Haoting Bai ’25, who regularly celebrates these traditions, expresses his gratitude, “I am so happy that we got to celebrate the Lunar New Year in school this year. We had a very exciting after school celebration with trivia and traditional foods with all the students who had interest in our culture. I am really touched to see our traditions being included and cherished in AP.” Recognizing different cultures and celebrating diversity highlights unitas in the Austin Prep student body and encourages us to cherish our differences and inspire others.
Service
AHands to Serve
n the tradition of St. Augustine, the Austin Prep Community dedicates time around the holidays to organize meals and gift donations for families in need. This year, the school community gathered over 500 gifts for various families around the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. In the fall, over 78 baskets of turkey, gravy, and other essential Thanksgiving supplies were collected. In the spirit of giving at Christmas Time, a toy drive was able to fill over 10 bags of toys and fun to donate to the Boys and Girls Club and a shelter in Lawrence. More food baskets, candy, and decorations were collected at Easter.
Many students who participated and helped to organize the donations enjoyed
helping those in need and wanted to share with others the importance of this experience. When Lexi Sherry ’24 was asked how service has helped her to develop into the person she is today she stated, “By doing service have become more selfless and always wanting to be there for others before helping myself. Doing this in my town’s community has encouraged me to bring it back to the community here at Austin Prep.” Katelin Farris ’24 also added, “Volunteering has also given me valuable life experience. have improved my communication and leadership skills and have a better understanding of different cultures.” Service embodies Austin Prep’s mission of “hands to serve” and brings the community together. The students and faculty look forward to carrying out service activities over the summer and into the next school year!

Coming Together
tudents at Austin Prep have the wonderful opportunity S to participate in clubs during the school day. The choices are endless, with options including Mission and Inclusion, Sign Language Club, Green Key, Campus Ministry, Softball Club, Culinary Club, and Austin Authors. Clubs are a great way to get involved in the School community and also share passions and creativity with fellow students. Kendryk Aquino ’25 contributes his thoughts on why he enjoys school clubs, “My favorite thing about my clubs is the friendly atmosphere and the people involved. The members make it easy to connect and share ideas. Clubs are a great way to get involved with my community, make new friends, and put new skills under my belt.” Austin Prep is also a place where leaders are made. Val Centinaro ’23, President of the Senior Class and President of BOLD, expresses her opinion, highlighting on what clubs have taught her, “I joined these clubs because I wanted to develop my leadership abilities and learn to collaborate with others on a common goal. I also wanted to give back to my community so I joined clubs that would give me the opportunity to work with and for others. My favorite thing about BOLD is that I get the opportunity to work with other young women to achieve our goals and develop our skills in Public Speaking and confidence.” Clubs at Austin Prep are truly the best!
