Many students in the Class of 2021 began their long trek at Austin Prep in the 6th grade with excitement and big ' smiles. Arya Gupta reflects on her first year at AP, "6th grade was such a fun year! I remember we were alla little nervous but very excited to be at a new school with so many new and different people. Many memorable activities brought us together, such as Project Adventure, the Latin Toga Games, and the Rock Paper Scissors Advisory Challenge." Now the Seniors are ready to leave Austin Prep full of knowledge and growth, but look forward and seeing bright futures ahead of themselves. Stanley Alger states, “Graduating high school at Austin Prep is a subject that I have mixed feelings over. In some ways, I feel as though I have accomplished a great feat and nowI'm psyched to go into the world - in other ways I feel as though I'm finally saying goodbye to something that has made me who I am."

The
Families and siblings are a special dimension of Austin Prep. Seniors that have siblings help them make a seamless transition into the Austin Prep community. Kayla Russell commented, "I liked telling Chloe about what to expect at Austinthings like which sports, teachers, classes, and clubs are the best. Chloe has definitely found new teachers and things to love, too! Everything is so different this year, but I was glad I could teach her everything I know about Austin and how to get the most out of the experience before I graduate. " Other seniors shared similar feelings for their younger siblings. Kate Simpson and Hannah Sullivan both echoed that being a mentor to their younger siblings is very exciting. Older siblings are seen as great role models by their younger siblings.

Even with Covid restrictions she said, "Dancing at Austin is an experience I hold really close to my heart and I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to perform in the Nutcracker this year. Dancing in the Nutcracker made the world feel normal again, even if it was only for a few hours." Junior Julia Viana, who played the Dr. Drosselmeyer said, "A lot of scenes had to be cut short because of the 45 minute time slot, but the show came out to be great and made it as good as it could be."

Austin Prep holds the annual Spirit Week every year where students get to dress down for a week with a donation to St. Jude Hospital. Every day is a new theme and students are given a bracelet with their donation. The total amount of money raised this year for St. Jude was $5,894. During the week, teachers and students are able to donate goods and extra money if they would like. Senior Ariana Clark said "My favorite day during spirit week was definitely Decades day. I never have seen the whole school have that much spirit. This was probably the most kids that have dressed up to the full extent of the theme in my whole four years at Austin. I think this spirit week was better than in the past because more students participated and dressed up to their fullest extent.”

The Girls Varsity Basketball team had a challenging year like many sports. They made the most of it, though. “Ideally it would've been great to have fans be able to watch us, like our friends and family, but also to have pasta parties and spend more time with the team, but I am happy we were able to have our season,” said Grace Ardito '21. Starting with preseason and all the way to the end they gave nothing but 100% effort. Their relationship as a team was a huge gateway to how well they played, even keeping it up after a two week quarantine, and some Zoom-based workouts and practices. "We were missing a couple girls due to having to quarantine but the players that were there definitely came together and won it for them.” Molly Ardito '21. The team especially came together after the Arlington Catholic game which was high tension but they played their hardest to end the game with a win for AP!

Covid has affected us all in many different ways, but especially our sports. “Covid canceled some of our games, and even shut
us down for two weeks. It tried to harm the team’s connection and ability to come close with each other,” said Senior Elise ¥ Lyons. Senior Alli Martinson stated, “We had to have long meetings after practice to be able to create a bond with each and
every one of our teammates in order for us to succeed on the ice.” The team was able to succeed despite how tough the
season was. They had two close games with St. Mary's. In the first game, the team was down 4-2 and was able to score two goals in the last five minutes and tie it up 4-4. In their second game, the team came out on top after an intense game. The

Austin Prep Boys Hockey finished with an overall record of 8-2-3 with their season cut short one week before the CCL playoffs. Senior Captain Joey Thibodeau said, “This year had its ups and downs and definitely was a season I'll always remember. We had a great group of guys on the team and we all bonded quickly. I think we made the most of this season and » it was a great time with the boys.” With Covid in play, Joey also mentioned, “Covid obviously affected our season in many ‘different ways but I think we all adapted to the rule changes and it showed the type of team we really are.” The team was fortunate enough to play all of their games without any cancellations until the end of the year.

The Girls Ski Team was finally ready to start racing after their first race was postponed a few times. Captain Elizabeth Bodett ‘21 said, “My favorite part of the season was having the opportunity to do team practices on the hill after races." The team had a large number of new people join which can be challenging for most teams. This didn’t stop them from doing extremely well this season. Captain Deanna DiNitto '21 said, “My favorite part about my Senior season was winning first place overall in the Interscholastic League race.” The team did overall very well in this race with Sydney Pilla '23 placing third. Although this Ski season wasn't quite what everyone was hoping for due to Covid, the Boys Ski Team enjoyed every moment they had racing this year. Captain Jack Bartley '21 states his favorite moment from this season was the team's first win against Newport. "It was our last chance to get a win this year, and my last chance ever, so it was extra special to me." The team had four races and went to the Interscholastics as well. Maxwell Clarke '21 said the highlight of his A season was "Getting to race first at the last race." Even though COVID-19 presented some challenges, the Austin Prep swim team was still able to find victory, coming out as undefeated in CCL North and Runner-Up for CCL Final. The swim meets were held virtually, and the swimmers competed on their own, comparing times with their opponent. By the end of the season, Elizabeth Walsh '21 was even able to set the school record for 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, and 200 medley relay this year after setting the 200 IM and 200 free relays last year. She states, “Swimming, for the most part, is an individual sport, but this team really feels like a family. Every practice and every race is a team effort, which is my favorite part. I love the adrenaline of diving in for a race and it feels even better when you are doing it with the support of the whole team. Although we race in our own lanes, we win together.”

Although football had a different look this year, the team still played great. Due to Covid-19 the football team had their season moved to the Fall 2 season which began in late February. Unfortunately, a few games were canceled, cutting back on their playing time. The team's first win against Cardinal Spellman was a highlight for Thomas Skeffington '22. "It was a true team effort and the excitement felt by everyone was really great." Sal LoCoco '21 said, "We still worked harder than most teams and competed in every game even when people didn't think we could." The team faced many challenges this year but persevered through, working together for a great season. In the end, the team had a great season and was happy to be back on the field. es

With a brand new team, Austin Prep coaches, and captains decided upon W*)aching last year's dance and holding a Parent Night for the team. Captain Meg Silva ‘22 stated, “My hope was to win States i season. Since Covid happened we were not allowed to compete at all, which was disappointing. We successfully were able to (ic our new team, which will help us next season.” Even though this was not the State win they were hoping for, they got many

Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation ceremonies were 7 held in the stadium on a beautiful afternoon to allow for family members to commemorate their special moment. Emma Ricciardeli, the Class of 2021 Salutatorian said, “It was bittersweet. I was excited to finally graduate and celebrate as a class, but it was also the first time that it really hit me that high school was over and we would all be going our own ways.” The day was filled with many speeches and awards. When asked how it felt to earn Valedictorian of her class, Faith Moran commented, “I was surprised, honored, and a little seared. The thought of giving a speech made mea little nervous, but at the end of the day I was just happy that I would be able to see the class all together at graduation.” It was a fitting finale to many great years at Austin.

Senior Captain Jake Elbeery has been a fantastic role model for the team When asked if he was proud to be a leader to this team, he responded with, “I am very proud of this team and to have had the opportunity to lead is a great experience. Our team has so much potential and can go very far, as it’s one of the best teams I’ve ever been a part of.” Junior Captain Evan Blanco added, “There is definitely a family atmosphere. Everyone wants to see their teammat perform at their best on the field but we also want to make sure everyone is doing great off the field, too.” Junior Captain Ernie Litt! was asked how it felt to be a leader for this team. He replied, “My reaction was obviously very excited, but I knew it came with a big | role and responsibilities. It made me feel honored to be able to lead such a talented group of players. I am definitely proud to be known as a captain of one of the best teams in the state. It is an honor.” The leadership of the captains plus the efforts put in during the offseason are a major reason for the success of this year's team. They are looking forward to making a deep run in the CCL Cup and the State Tournament. The team would like to give a shout out to the Baseball Ops crew (Hannah Sullivan, Jack Keefe, Stephen Burke, Chris Roberts, Patrick Fazzolari, Colin Neal, and Ryan Hickey) as they are a major factor in the team’s success with their efforts on and off the field.

The girls tennis season started off strong with many new players eager to learn. “In the beginning it was hard because you have to challenge each other to see who gets the spot, but it only made us better players,” said Ariana Clark ‘o1. Another big challenge was finding out where players are best fit, whether that would be playing doubles, or would be better asa singles player. People moved around but it made them better overall players. Helena Trojer ‘23 said, “Everyone on the team was versatile. We were all willing to play with different people and in different positions.” Throughout the season the team improved on power on the ball and communication. The team is hoping the season continues to go well and ends on a high note with success in the CCL Cup Tournament.

The Austin Prep Boys Tennis team season is off to a great start and has been playing great as a team. With Eddie Wei '21 and Christopher Gerety '22 as captains, the team kept reaching to push the boundaries. Eddie talked about how the team faced any new challenges this season. "The main challenge this year definitely has to be adapting to the outdoor environment. In addition, most of us haven’t played a team match in 2 years, so getting back into the swing of it was also a challenge in the first couple matches." Although half the team is brand new so there is a little bit of a rebuilding process, they have been playing great and are having an excellent season. They have only lost one match up through the first half of it and are looking forward to the postseason!

As the school year comes to an end, the Spring Track and Field L athletes have had an amazing season. With a large and ambitious team this year, the AP runners worked hard to become better on the track and closer as a team. TJ Brosnan '21 said his favorite memory from this season was cheering on his teammates during | meets. "I feel that it showed their support for one another and ho close they all had grown as a team." Last year the team didn't ge! chance to compete due to the canceled season. Fortunately this year they will get the chance to race and have a State Championship meet as well. Molly Dugan '21 said, "The team is filled with some of the hardest working people I've ever met." Many personal records were also set this season, including Alyss: Mangino '23, who achieved her PR in the 200m. She added, "Whi made this moment even better was all of the unconditional supp’ and love I received from my teammates and coaches."

Service has always been a good opportunity for students to share and spread their kindness to others. This year, Austin held some special service events for students to join. On Thanksgiving, students gathered together, carrying donated supplies on the bus to St. Mary of the Assumption Parish. “Doing service with my classmates from Austin Prep makes it even more enjoyable! You get to help your community with people who want to do just the same,” said Katherine Millett '24, who attended the Thanksgiving event.

Austin's service continued on Easter. We partnered with St. Mary of the Assumption Parish as well as Lazarus House to donate supplies to those in need. Service in Austin this year been essential due to Covid-19. “This current pandemic is a wake-up call and reminds us that everyone needs to make sacrifices for the greater good,” said Mr. Costello, “It's nice to see and hear the stories of people making sacrifices and help others during these challenging times.”

The start of spring also brought the return of the rest of the student clubs that had not been able to begin earlier in the year. These are a way for students to learn and have fun with friends. Each club focuses on something unique and different so that students are able to experience many different activities. Taylor Grohe ‘23, spoke about the Culinary Club. “It was awesome because we got to learn about different foods by seeing how they're made and enjoying them.” In all, the return of Cougar Block was a great finish to the school year.

The yearbook is an important part of school every year and we've been working hard on it to make it great after a challenging year. Ava Colella '23, part of the yearbook staff said, "The best part about making the yearbook this year was actually being a part of the team. Knowing the majority of the school buys the yearbook and keeps it for the rest of their lives makes me both happy and excited that they get to see all the hard work that we have put into it." The yearbook is something that you keep to look back on and reminisce about. Everyone on the staff agreed that working on the yearbook was really fun. Another member of the staff, Braydon Sullivan '23 said, "It's my first time helping with the yearbook and hopefully I can do it again."
