Mrs. Jean Gramling is the head of the Mathematics department, teaching Algebra II and Pre-Calculus. In addition, she is one of Austin’s most loyal fans. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Gramling frequently attend Austin sporting events, cheering on the students. Involving herself in many activities, Mrs. Gramling even joined the dance club on stage as a party guest in the production of "The Nutcracker.” She brings a smile to every face as she walks down the hall greeting students and colleagues every morning. As a truly beloved and respected teacher, Mrs. Gramling never closes her door to any student looking for help or guidance. On behalfof the Class of 2010, OMEGA would sincerely like to thank Mrs. Gramlingfor her unfailing support and positive encouragement in the past years.

Mr. David Gramling is the head of the History department, teaching AP World History, AP Psychology, and AP Economics. He, too, can be seen at almost every Austin sporting event, truly investing his time into Austin and its students. As founder of the Academic Decathlon, Mr. Gramling devotes enormous amounts of time working with and preparing students for competition. He has been a regular announcer at football and hockey games, keeping a personal record of team performances and individual statistics. His excitement beams at Austin events, as he aims to support all students.

Pirates of Penzance sailed to the Multi-Purpose Facility stage November 20-22.
Federic, a pirate apprentice, sets the stage awaiting to be freed from his period of indenturement. Once free and on land, Federic falls in love with Major-General Stanley's daughter, Mabel.
Soon after, the ship of pirates arrives to port and falls in love with Mabel's sisters. Furious, MajorGeneral Stanley turns to the police to protect his daughters. Federic yearns to help, but is denied because he is bound to remain an apprentice to the pirates. As the musicial comes to a close, the pirates learn they have noble blood, and would be up to MajorGeneral Stanley's standards.

Every winter, Austin students are given the opportunity to host a student from Buenos Aires, Argentina for two weeks. In exchange, during the summer of 2008, six students, accompanied by Mrs. Sherry, visited Argentina, lived with host families and attended school.

In March of 2009, Ms. Fuller and Mr. Mayo toured New York City with 52 Juniors of the class of 2010. They visited the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum, Times Square, Trinity Church, and attended the production Chicago.
"The whole trip was awesome. Since had never been to NYC before, everything amazed me. One of my favorite parts was going to the Top of the Rock and being able to see out across the whole city. I'll always remember singing "Hey Yeah" at the American Idol Karaoke in the Wax Museum.”

In June of 2008, Mr. Hennessey accompanied Austin students to spend fourteen days touring the Russian cities of Yaroslavl, Suzdal, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tsarkskoe Tselo, and Rostov.

During April vacation of 2009, 22 Austin students were accompanied by Ms. Shanahan, Mr. Hennessey, and Ms. Bishop on a tour of Italy. They spent one week visiting the Italian cities of Rome, Venice, and Florence.

During April vacation of 2009, Austin students were accompanied by Mr. Mackiewicz and Mrs. DiPerna to Paris for a week. They visited major monuments such as The Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Versailles, and the Louvre.
"My favorite part about traveling to Paris was seeing how the French lived. will always remember climbing over 1,000 steps on crutches. also enjoyed the boat ride down the Seine, seeing the different buildings, and of course, the Eiffel Tower!" -Kathryn McGuiggan

Mr. Nealon was a loving teacher, coach, colleague, and friend to the Austin community. He taught for 17 years in the Theology department, in addition to coaching the girls tennis and girls ski teams. "Don" always had a smile on his face. To him, it was about others; he was always willing to put himself second to someone else's needs. He was extraordinarily devoted to his job, rarely missing a day of school. As a teacher, he wanted his students to learn life lessons through God's message. As a coach, it was about having fun. He felt that it was important to go out and try your best, no matter what the outcome. Mr. Nealon is greatly missed. He lives on in our hearts. May he rest in peace and watch over us.
