Dedication to the Loving Memory of Mr. Francis W. Buckley Jr.

We the class of 1985 sincerely dedicate the 1985 OMEGA in the memory of our late friendly Mr. Francis W. Buckley. We attempt in some small way to show our appreciation to our guidance counselor for his friendliness, his sincere interest in our class, collectively and individually, for his cheerful and untiring efforts in our behalf, and because he has helped make our experience at Austin a more enjoyable one. Certainly we will all remember him in fondness for the rest of our lives

If there has ever been a person dedicated to being a leader for the benefit of our school it would be Mr. Buckley. The efforts he had made for us were sincerely out of the goodness of his heart. He was a man that was always willing to help anyone in need whether it be a personal favor or simply a little good advice. This is the kind of person we will always remember him as being. STEPHEN LINEHAN (85)

Mr. Buckley was a man who really cared about the future of Austin Prep’s students, as well as the school in general. His dedication to preparing us for our college life is something that not every high school student is fortunate to have. When | say that Austin truly misses Mr. Buckley, am sure that not only speak for myself, but on the behalf of my fellow classmates. ERIK DAWSON (85)

1984 was a season to remember for the Austin Prep Cougars’ football team. Coach Bob Pike did a super job in leading the Cougars to their best record since they won the Division II| State Championship in 1972. In June, Austin will graduate a very fine cast of football players, who will be missed. A few of these stand out: Ed Erbetta made All-Conference and was nominated for the Shriner's All-Star Team. Shawn Smith won Austin Prep’s Coach's Award for his efforts. Mike Falite won both the StudentAthlete Award and the outstanding offense player of the year. Falite set 15 all-time AP records including both season and career marks in yards, touchdowns, rushing and overall touchdowns. Other Seniors who contributed to a successful year were Ed Veno, Pat Smith, Tony Vorias, Bob Pawlak, Steve Geracoulis, Phil Harty, Rich Chambers, and Steve Linehan. With a solid core of juniors and some sophomores coming back next year, Austin should enjoy another successful season of football.

Missing are Sean “VINCE” McMahon and David Longo.

This year’s Varsity Soccer team, even though they had a disappointing 3-12-1 record, had many bright points during the season. Seniors that played consistently well during the season were fullback Mark Higgins and halfback John MacMullin. The team also had some excellent underclassmen led by Junior Andy Hurley and Sophomore Antone Lauria who made the Catholic Conference All-Star Team. These two and other hard working players will lead the Cougars to a successful season in 1985.

Frank Capone is all set on defense.

Cross Country

The 1984 season marked a very successful transitional year for the Austin Cross Country Program. Co-Captains Rob Brogna and Mark Solomon joined with classmates Chris Morris, Kevin O'Donnell, Tim Larkin and Steve Thompson and Junior Scott Bradley to provide maturity and leadership for several promising but, relatively inexperienced runners. The squad finished with an over-all record of 8 and 8, and was 6 and 0 against opponents from the Catholic Central League in which the team will compete next year. With seven returning varsity runners and several talented members of Coach Doubleday’s Freshmen squad ready to swell the ranks, prospects for the 1985 season are very encouraging.

The 1984-85 Austin Prep Basketball Team has been the most successful team in many years. Playing as an independent, Austin’s record is 6-8. This year’s team is captained by Tim Murphy and Steve Thompson. The Cougars were led by the team’s leading scorer, Steve Khentigan and second leading scorer, Tim Murphy. John Martin led the team in assists with Sean “Vince” McMahon and Joe Hyatt, the team’s leading rebounders. The 1984-85 Austin Prep Cougar Basketball Team is the pioneers of many successful basketball teams to come.

Another Score for Austin!
Ronny pulls in another one. Co-Captain Bill Flanagan with the turn around.

1984-85 Austin Prep Hockey was a complete change from the past ‘few years. A new coach, Mr. Ed McColgan, took over with help from ‘Steve Arnold. Bill Flanagan and Peter Palermo are the co-captains with ‘Bill Engel the alternate captain. Along with other veterans and some newcomers in all the positions, the Cougars have made the State /Tournament for the first time in three years. While accomplishing this \goal, the team also beat Matignon for the first time in nine tries against \the defending state champs. This team with a characteristic of coming \from behind to win games should finish up the season very well this year. ‘With a very solid core of juniors and sophomores in the lineup, this team ‘should be very successful again next year.

Co-Captains Art Speros and Dennis Keon with Coach Stafford. Mike Addor shows his stuff.

The 1984-85 Ski Team is 8-6. Dennis Keon and Art Speros are the co-captains of this year’s team. The Annual Interscholastic Races will be held Feb. 13 — the top eight races on each team. The seniors have really come through this year, but we also have some very good talent in the underclassmen which should help us next year.

This year yielded another successful season for the 1984-85 Winter Track Team. In

This year’s captains are seniors Mark Buckley and AAP 42 aan Sav 44 Chris Morris. Standouts on this year’s team are Mike Falite and Wayne Pace in the 50, Mark Buckley in the 300, Mark Solomon and Jim Daly in the 600. With a strong freshmen squad led by Chris Capome and Eric Schnell there is a strong future for Austin track teams next year.
