The 1984 Omega is lovingly dedicated to the memory of the late Archbishop of Boston, Humberto Medieros. His memory will be a constant reminder of how we as Christians, should live our lives. As a personal friend of Austin, Cardinal Medieros showed great interest in and gave much support to students, parents, faculty, administration, and staff. His guidance will be a cherished memory for all of us. His work as a loving and courageous shepherd and teacher will never be forgotten ...

Mr. F. McCarthy gets ready to call a penalty for split infinitives.
Allis peace and love in the English Department, despite the best efforts of Mr. J. McCarthy, who has abandoned the strife-ridden Science Office to stir up what trouble he can on the second floor.
Mr. F. McCarthy was the first victim. One morning he walked into homeroom to find that a sacrificial cow had been left on his desk. Moreover, someone had switched the decks of cards for the whist club, leaving them with picture cards, a fact found out when Mr. McCarthy trumped Jim Rogers’ kittens with a bear.
Mr. Doubleday was victim number two. He walked out to find his car hung from the flagpole, encased in jello. A note found inside the car threatened the destruction of the free world unless Mr. Moran shaved and remained clean-shaven. It was signed “Uncle Remus”. All eyes turned toward Mr. J. McCarthy.
Mr. Parrella and Mr. Passanese found to their extreme displeasure that someone had laid in an amazing supply of pudding, which was soon to be found in desks, books, pants pockets, sneakers, and on chairs.
Mr. Dowd was by no means exempt. He soon discovered that his precious Nathaniel Hawthorne poster collection was defaced, then stolen and replaced with a Connie Stevens poster. Also written all over the walls were the words “Natis flat.”
The English teachers soon decided that Mr. J. McCarthy was the guilty party and took “appropriate measures.” The plaster attaching him to the wall next to Roach Motel should be breakable by August.

Mr. Pike: “Okay, Dad, back it up.”
Relations between the Math Office and the nearby Legend office were somewhat strained this year, due to the fact that Fr. Flynn had most of the editors in Introductory Calculus. Editor-inChief Kevin Miller’s snide comments about the Philadelphia 76ers added to the tension. However, Miller's hide was saved by Mrs. Donovan, who didn’t want Miller’s blood to stain the Cougar suit. Mrs. Donovan also had to protect her Hellraisers from various charges, including one charge of running a white Siave trade. Apparently, several underclassmen have disappeared after wandering into Room #300.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Field recently finished her life-sized ice sculpture of her hero, Tom Selleck. This is creating a problem with her neighbor, Mrs. Moulton, as with the warmer months coming up, Tom is developing a case of leprosy, and just a few days ago his mustache decomposed all over Mrs. Moulton’s desk.
Mr. Schillaci, Miss Perry, and Mrs. Trenholm warned this editor that if anything less than the truth was printed about them, this editor would wake up one morning to find that he was smeared with dog food and surrounded by rabid schnauzers, so we'll leave off here.

The Social Studies department is not without internal strife either. Mr. Collectors Club, Cheerleaders, Sports Information Di- Gramling and Mr. Downey have been avoiding each other ever since the rector. infamous “Twinkie Incident”, in which Mr. Downey was purported to have sold the frosh basketball team to New York for fifteen cases of those golden beauties. Meanwhile, Mr. Pike and Mr. Hoffses were at odds over Mr. Hoffses’ bookmaking outfit offering outrageous odds on the Austin football team. Mr. Adamo narrowly escaped a prison term this year when he was arrested for teaching that Herbet Hoover promised, “A lasagnain every pan.” Fortunately for Mr. Adamo, Mr. Bouvier and Mr. Chenery were nearby and beat the police back with Cabbage Patch Kids.

The Science Department has been strife-ridden as of late, as Mrs. Arnold and Mrs. Rivers run into staunch opposition to their plans to make the labs “more homey”. Chairman Dr. Boschetto has firmly voiced his views concerning the idea of putting knit woolen comforters around the chemistry beakers, so that has been dropped, but the ladies persist in their idea stick flowers in the unused specimen bottles and in the mouths of the stuffed animals in the biology lab. The ladies are aided in their efforts by Mr. Baga, who has had arguments with Mr. Doherty over the true origin of freshmen. Mr. Doherty still holds to the Darwin theory, while Mr. Baga believes that freshman came from zucchini that didn’t quite make it.

Now the continuing saga of one man’s family — the Foreign Language department. This little family is presently wrapped up in tense power struggles, which threaten to destroy the general aura of happiness which usually prevails in the Language Lab. Mr. Stone, a.k.a. “the milk of human kindness”, is dying for a victory for his Latin team, which made school history this year by becoming the first team ever to be beaten by Mr. Hennessy’s Russians. Mr. Hennessy, however, is looking for a way to defeat his arch-rival Mr. Mackiewicz. Someone has even started the rumor that the Russians Club may challenge the French to a polo contest if all else fails. Mr. Mackiwicz is looking for fresh bait, and is considering both the Italians and the Spaniards. Both of these want to start off with a winoby challenging the Russians. It has also been rumored that Mr. Hennessy, having parted with his beloved Yellow Pontiac, has been watching Mr. Stone’s Honda with a larcenous eye. This would be most unwise, taking into account the already unstable Hennessy-Stone relationship, caused by squabbles over the punctuality of The Legend and has the least noticeable receding hairline. These squabbles are constantly inflamed by the pungent remarks of Mrs. Struthers and Mr. Mackiewicz. Usually when tempers fly, Mr. Bettez can be seen trying to sneak out of the Language Lab by grabbing some unsuspecting freshman’s books and talking in a high-pitched voice.
B.A. University of Rome, M.A. University of Rome, Ph. D. University of Bari. SUBJECTS: Italian |, Il, Ill, IV, Spanish |, Il. ACTIVITIES: Italian Club.

The Russian-French rivalry continued this year and once again the French were victorious. Led by alumni Joe Brine and Tom Stanton with Olympic hopeful Joe Leahy in net, the French flew to a 15-11 undisputed (for once) win. The Russian Club, not necessarily led by Kevin Miller, put up a game fight, but despite the best efforts of alumni Ron Cahill and Ken Wells, the Russians could not come out on top. After the game the Russians were heard discussing various other means of defeating the French such as cribbage, needlepoint, and tiddlywinks.

December 7, 1965 — November 28, 1982
To his family, said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard — felt the answer in my heart Although he spoke no word! didn’t ask for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn’t mind) — | asked Him to send treasures Of a far more lasting kind! asked that He’d be near you At the start of each new day To grant you health and blessings And friends to share your way! asked for happiness for you In all things great and small — But it was for His loving care prayed for most of all!
with sincerest thoughts, The Class of 1984
