Varsity Football
The 1975 Varsity Football Team did not quite measure up to the preseason expectations. The 4 wins, 5 loss record was good enough for a sixth place finish in the Merrimack Valley League, highlighted by mild upsets over Tewksbury and Billerica. The brightest spots in the season were Dave Bruno’s rushing records including a new league mark for longest run from scrimmage, and the selection of Ed Daley and Chuck Gaudet to the All-League All Star team.

Charlie—over and out.” streak. After last season’s Eastern Mass. Finalist performance, much was expected of this Cinderella team, and they did not disappoint. The early highlight was a stunning 3-2 upset victory of defending state champion and arch-enemy Billerica. The only Division II game ever chosen for a Hockey Night in Boston broadcast, the star of the game was awarded to Co-Captain Goalie Steve Vasaturo. Heading for a repeat performance in the State Tournament in March, the Cougars built a solid and loyal following.

Varsity Basketball
In the Winter of 1975-76, an Austin Prep Basketball Game became a pleasant way to spend a winter’s evening again. The team more than trebeled their win output from previous years.
Led by Co-Captains Ted Coppinger (17 pts. per game) and Larry Comerford (10.0 pts. per game), the team recorded first ever wins over Tewksbury, Dracut, and a big upset win over Methuen in the Boston Garden as a pre-game to the CelticsBullets contest.

Frosh Basketball
Depth and desire are the two words that best describe this year’s freshman basketball team. The highlight of their heartbreaking season was a 60-35 win over the Shawsheen Tech Junior Varsity. The rugged line-up was filled with such names as Phil Marcotte, George Scannell, Joe Geary, Brian Hebert, and Rich Taylor. The frosh are expected to make a good showing in the Freshman Basketball Tournament being held in Wakefield at the close of the season.
