The sun set; but set not his hope:

Stars rose; his faith was earlier up:

Fixed on the enormous galaxy, Deeper and older seemed his eye: And matched his sufferance sublime

The taciturnity of time.

He spoke, and words more soft than rain

Brought back the Age of Gold again:

His action won such reverence sweet, As hid all measure of the feat.

Austin grants us the chance to discover our hidden virtues and to test our potentials in knowledge, in social facility, In awareness of ourselves.

But more than that, Austin prepares us for hard work, sacrifice and strenuous commitments of high purpose. Austin prepares us for life.

In classes of open discussion we air our views, measure conflicting opinions, learn to hear the other fellow, and draw from the merits of both sides.

As the leaders of tomorrow, we dream of an America which can match its moral restraint with its military might, its course of policy with its noble rhetoric, its power and compassion and wisdom with the challenges and crises of our age.

Indeed ours is the dream of a German-Jewish girl in the furor of World War II, the dream of Anne Frank: “Things will change and men will become good again, and these pitiless days will come to an end, and the world will know once again, order, trust, and peace.”’

Coach Jack Fawcett, a man truly dedicated to the advancement of youth, leaves the Austin campus to assume the position of Head Track Coach at Merrimack College.

“Coach’ gained national prominence running for Villanova and in 1956 qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team.

Under his direction the Austin team attained third place in the 1968 State Catholic Championship Meet.

A man easy to meet, he is rated by the team members as “a guy who really cares.”
