Council Chair Speaks: Let’s all meet at the State Convention!

District Conventions are in full swing! I have traveled to Districts E, L, BK, F and CN so far. I will visit both A and G yet in March and then the final 3, CS, D and J, in early April. All the conventions I’ve attended have been fun, entertaining and informative! The International speakers that I’ve met are very motivational and knowledgeable about the association. I’ve learned new things at each convention as each one has its own personality! I have enjoyed the ones I visited and look forward to the rest.

As our State Convention draws closer, I am getting more and more excited about what we have planned for our convention in Bloomington-Normal scheduled for May 14th thru the17th. Having had the opportunity to meet and talk with ID Lion Linda Tincher from Riley, IN, I think everyone will be very pleased with what she will share with us. ID Linda’s husband, PDG Vern, is also a very interesting Lion to talk with. They are both very active in starting new clubs. Maybe they will be able to give us some pointers in MD-1 so we can be more successful in growing our membership. Please make a point to introduce yourself to Director Linda and PDG Vern.

You won’t be disappointed.

We have exciting seminars lined up on Saturday.

What is LCI Up To? is an informative session to bring us up to date on what is happening in our association. This will be presented by ID Linda Tincher. Next we have Lions Clubs Having Fun. This will surely be entertaining! Hopefully you’ll get many new ideas that you can apply to your own clubs. The third session is Leader Dog presented by the one and only PDG Len Quinn! He will definitely touch your heart while making you laugh at the same time. If you have never heard PDG Len speak, you are in for a big treat!

There will be a silent auction. Please browse the donated items from each district as well as some items from the State Office. Come and bid often!

This helps offset the costs of the convention and you might walk away with a bargain or two as well!

Don’t forget on Saturday, we have our State Awards luncheon and the State “Luau” Banquet where ID Tincher will be the keynote speaker. She will also assist me in handing out International Awards. On Sunday, delegates will be voting and the Lions of IL Foundation will be holding their annual breakfast and meeting. This is also when the Sight and Sound Sweepstakes winners will be pulled! Who will be the lucky winners this year?

Make sure you stay for the LIF Breakfast so you can hear what Exec. Director Mario Gumino, PDG, has to tell us about the plans for our Foundation.

There will also be Foundation Awards handed out at this time. The Foundation Breakfast is a good opportunity to reflect on the great services we provide all over Illinois! The convention is wrapped up on Sunday with a live auction and the closing plenary session.

Oh…. Wait a minute…. I forgot about the FUN. We will be having ‘Fun and Games in the Tropics’ in the Hospitality Rooms on Friday night and after the State Banquet on Saturday night, we will be having Tropical Desserts in the Hospitality Rooms. So fill our your reservations and get your rooms reserved early, as we are going to have a ROARING good time at the Lions of IL 95th Annual State Convention!

Editorial: TIME TO HAVE FUN!

As most of the Districts in MD1 completed their conventions and only three more Districts will have theirs in the month of April, now all Lions eyes are on MD1 State Convention and the big one -98th International Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.

From LCI President Joe Preston to an ordinary Lion Joe from any club is collecting Hawaiin shirts and shorts to wear for International Parade. MD1 Lions are not far behind in this dress race for the parade.

As Mother Multiple District of Lionism, we must show off our colors on this parade.

MD1 Lions will meet in Hotel Marriott in Bloomington, Normal to celebrate our achieveents.

Presidential and Leadership Medals will be given away to all 11 Districts in Illinois per the selection of District Governors. This will be an honor to receie these prestigious awards for showing leadership and dedication in growing lionism.

Lions are the most fun loving creatures in this wild world. Conventions are the true examples of this fun fare, fellowship and friendship. Where else you witness those hugs, kisses and hand shakes?

Come on down and see the fun in Bloomington.

Then end of June many of us will go to Honolulu to meet our International family members from all over the world where there are no groups based on religion, color, ethnicity and nationality. We are all one and we are one in resolving community issues in helping the needy and less fortunate.

Since it was such a heartwarming event, I wanted to share the festivities with the MD1 Lions. I started this article, but it became quite long. I wanted to be succinct, yet inlormative, so I visited the LCI website for assistance. Below, please lind the press release lrom LCl. They said it much better than I could. The only thing I wanl to add is that every Lion lhat has a chance, should attend a United Nations Day. What we do as Lions really does make a difference all around the globe!

Headquarters in New York City, March 7, 2015.

Nearly 500 Lions from over 30 countries traveled to New York to meet with U.N. leaders for the day-long summit. "Lions have worked alongside the United Nations for seventy years to promote the health, safety and wellbeing of people around the world," said Lions Clubs lnternational President Joe Preston. "l'm happy that we can come together once again to discuss solutions to the challenges we'll face as we work toward a brighter future." As a part of this year's theme of Children in Need, Lions and U.N. leaders addressed issues affecting youth around the world. From drug prevention education, to vision health and access to education in times of crisis, Lions joined together to discuss ways to positively impact some of the most vulnerable populations on the planet. The United Nations stands with [Lions] as you work to improve the lives of young children," said Cristina Gallach, Under Secretary Generalfor Communications and Public lnformation at the U.N. "The world laces multiple conflicts ... but ours is also an era for a safer, more prosperous, equitable and sustainable luture for all'" Lions also discussed strategies to continue championing important humanitarian causes in support of the U.N.'s Millennium Development Goals. Additionally, Lions were ioined by more than 20 U.N. ambassadors, including the Honorable Macharia Kamau of Kenya, who led a discussion on civilservice's role within the 2015 Sustainable Development Goals ol ending extreme poverty by 2030. "l have worked with UNICEF around the world, and everywhere and every time we work, there are Lions," said Ambassador Kamau. "The work Lions do, the effort that comes together to transform the lives of people around the world, particularly the most vulnerable, is wonderful." To cap oll the event, Lions announced the winners of this year's Lions Peace Poster and Essay Contests. Wei Jin Qian, a 13 year old girlfrom Liaoning, China, captured the grand prize in the Peace Poster Contest, while Jalen Ballard, a12yearold boy from Toledo, Ohio, USA, took home the top prize in the Essay Contest. MEMBERSHIP CORNER: A Clean Slate Daylight Saving Time has arrived.

Spring officially arrived this past Friday, March 20th. Finally, there is no snow anywhere in my yard, even where the sun doesn’t shine. Maybe it’s safe to run the car through the carwash and get rid of the last of the dirty salt spray.

Starting April with a clean car sounds nice. It would be nice if we could also start April with a clean slate. Maybe your Club should consider it. How does a Club start with a clean slate? We really can’t erase what happened in the past, even if we would like to. But we can move forward with a refreshed and very positive attitude.

A refreshed attitude should be incorporated into all planning for those major summer events: SummerFest, Taste of (name your community), Concerts in the Park and anything else you do. A positive attitude could be the same as a “can do spirit”.

Yes, you can do it. But wouldn’t it be easier if you had more members: more Lions to help plan, work and cleanup after the event? If your Club is down by one or two members since the beginning of the year (July 1, 2014), you still have 3 months to wipe out those losses. That is a goal that can be accomplished. In last month’s article I mentioned some places in which to look for potential members. My offer in that article still stands: “Contact me at the phone or email address at the bottom of this article and I will send you 2 pages worth of where to look and what to do.” Get a copy of those pages and go for it! You CAN do it!

Earlier I mentioned a clean slate. Don’t forget to hold elections for next year’s officers. This should be done in April, if you haven’t already done so.

Let those newly elected officers know that they will have the full support of their Club. If they are successful, your Club should be also.

Both amendments will require a 2/3 affirmative vote in order to pass. Your MD-1 Constitution and By-Laws Committee recommends approving both amendments.

Resolution #1 Lions of Illinois, Inc. RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE LIONS OF ILLINOIS CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS CONSTITUTION - ARTICLE VIII, STATE CONVENTION Subject: This proposed amendment would revise the site selection process for the location of the State Convention. A Site Selection Team would visit the bidding hotels, and make a qualified recommendation to the Council of Governors, who would then determine the site of the convention.

WHEREAS, Section 1 of Article VIII of the MD-1 Constitution entitled State Convention, states that 'During each State Convention the delegates in attendance shall select the site for the State Convention'; and, WHEREAS, in recent years, a Convention City Nominations Committee has in fact been making the selection for the site of future State Conventions; and, WHEREAS, personnel from the bidding hotels have been making their presentations to this Convention City Nominations Committee at a site other than their hotel; and, WHEREAS, this current bidding process does not give an opportunity for anyone from the Lions of

Illinois to visit each bidding property to actually see the facilities and services available; and, WHEREAS, some members of the Convention City Nominations Committee may not have the experience of being involved with the actual planning and organization of a State Convention which would require knowing specific needs in facilities and services; and, WHEREAS, the State Convention Chairperson, current Council Chairperson, immediate past Council Chairperson and the State Secretary-Treasurer would all have first-hand knowledge and experience in the organization and planning of a State Convention; and, WHEREAS, having experienced and knowledgeable Lions visiting potential State Convention sites, experiencing first-hand what a hotel can, or cannot offer, and making a recommendation to the Council of Governors would strengthen the entire site selection process; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT Sections 1, 2 and 6 of Article VIII of the MD-1 Constitution, entitled State Convention be amended as shown below by eliminating the text shown by the strikethrough and adding the text in bold; and a new Section 3 be added as shown below; and all other Sections in Article VIII to be renumbered accordingly, with the effective date to be at the close of the 2015 State Convention: Section 1. A convention of this State shall be held each year not later than twenty (20) days prior to the date set for the Lions International Convention for that year. During each State Convention, the State Council delegates in attendance shall select the site for the State Convention not more than two (2) years in advance. Notwithstanding, if a site proposes a multi-year contract, the State Council may consider the proposal. In the event that a the site is not selected by the delegates State Council as herein provided, or in the event that it subsequently becomes necessary to hold the State Convention elsewhere, the site selection shall be made by a subsequent the vote of the State Council at any time. The State Council shall also have the responsibility of fixing the date of each State Convention.

Section 2. The State Office shall send out invitations to bid on the two year out State Convention to hotels within the state that the State Council

feels meet the needs of the convention, at least one hundred twenty (120) days prior to the convention at which the site is to be selected. The Chairperson of the State Council shall receive all invitations hotel bids in writing from cities desiring to entertain the convention for the years specified in the foregoing Section 1 not later than sixty (60) ninety (90) days prior to said the convention. at which the site or sites are to be selected., which invitations shall be presented to the delegates.

Such invitations hotel bids which meet the needs of the convention, shall state clearly define the facilities and services available including what housing and other facilities will be available for the convention and shall certify the dates available. In the event no invitations hotel bids from qualified cities have been received by the Council Chairperson ninety (90) days prior to said the convention prior to the convening of the convention at which the site selection or selections are to be made, the State Office may be directed by the State Council to contact other hotels. names of cities ready, willing and able to host the convention may be presented to the Chairperson prior to the last session of the convention at which the site or sites are to be selected and by the Chairperson presented to the delegates.

New Section 3. A Site Selection Team consisting of the current Council Chair, Immediate Past Council Chair, State Secretary-Treasurer and current State Convention Chair will visit each bidding hotel as a group to inspect the facilities to assure that the hotel meets the criteria for hosting a State Convention. The Site Selection Team will also discuss services needed, including, but not limited to, housing, catering, meeting room space, audio visual and hospitality room requirements. Once all visits are completed, the Site Selection Team will present their recommendation to the Council during the convention at which the site selection is to be made, for their consideration and decision.

Renumber Sections 3-12 as 4-13 accordingly.

Section 67. At least 75 days before each annual State Convention the State Council shall appoint such committees as shall be deemed necessary to properly administer the Convention, including Resolutions, Elections, Rules, Sergeant-At-Arms, Registrations, Necrology, and Credentials, and Convention City Nominations, and shall also appoint a Par-

liamentarian to act in an advisory capacity at all Convention meetings. Each Convention Committee shall be composed of one member from each district appointed by the District Governor of the District, with a member of the State Council as Chairperson. The Committee Chairperson shall be the member of the Committee from his/her District.

Resolution #2 Lions of Illinois, Inc. RESOLUTION TO AMEND THE LIONS OF ILLINOIS CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS CONSTITUTION - ARTICLE IX, STATE REVENUE Subject: This proposed amendment would change a portion of the Promotion Fund overflow allocation from the self-sustaining Magazine Fund, to the new Residual Fund.

WHEREAS, Paragraph 5 of Section 1 of Article IX of the MD-1 Constitution entitled State Revenue, describes the Promotion Fund and its balance to be maintained at no more than $50,000; and, WHEREAS, this same paragraph stipulates that the excess funds, above the $50,000, is to be distributed as set forth in parts A, B, and C; and, WHEREAS, part B states that 35% of the excess is to be allocated to the Magazine Fund; and, WHEREAS, since the Magazine Fund has gone electronic, the Magazine Fund is self-sufficient with its own allocation of $1from the per capita tax on each Lions member in the state, and therefore is no longer in need of this assistance; and, WHEREAS, the Council of Governors has created a “Residual Fund” whose main purpose is to help fund leadership and membership educational opportunities for Lions within the state; and, WHEREAS, this “Residual Fund” can benefit from the excess allocation from the Promotion Fund, thereby using this financial assistance to invest in the training and education of future Lion leaders with MD-1, without any increase in dues; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT Paragraph 5, part B, of Section 1 of Article IX of the MD1 Constitution entitled State Revenue, be amended as shown below by striking the word “Magazine” and adding the word “Residual” in bold, with the effective date to be at the close of the 2015 State Convention:

MD-1 Constitution, Article IX, Section 1, Paragraph 5, Part B B. 35% thereof shall be allocated to the Magazine Residual Fund.

To be eligible, a candidate must be a Past District Governor, having served as an MD-1 Governor within the previous five Council years (2010-2011, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2014-2015) or be a sitting Governor on the 20152016 Council. The Council Chairperson for 20152016 also must be from a District other than the current Chairperson’s District (District 1-D). More information regarding eligibility is available at www.LionsClubs.org.

The duties and responsibilities of the Council Chairperson are detailed in the Lions of Illinois Constitution and By-Laws and the Policy Manual, both of which are posted on the MD-1 website, www.illinoislionsMD1.org.

It has been over forty years since MD1 has had an International President. Let’s get PID Bud endorsed at the MD1 State Convention, so he can run for this high office at the International Convention in Japan in 2016.

MD1 ALERT CORNER: Greetings Spring Readers, Wow, what a difference from the last time we were able to share some time together.

Many changes have taken place. Winter has changed to spring and the mountains of snow have melted and exposed our grass. We know that the consistent warm weather will be right around the corner.

Each club throughout Illinois is asked to send their delegates to this convention to vote in support of PID Bud’s candidacy. The agenda is full for the weekend and all Lions are encouraged to participate.

So with the thought of changes and exposure in mind, when the time changed in March, did you do anything with your smoke detector? Many fire departments recommend changing the batteries in your smoke detectors so they do not fail when that device is needed most. Another thing to consider is how old is your smoke detector? It might be time to get a new one.

Another device that we should keep an eye on is our carbon monoxide detectors. They do have a shelf life and you surely would not want to have that fail on you. They have improved these detectors over the years and combined them with a smoke alarm. Have you heard anyone complain after an emergency when their smoke or CO detector saved their life or the lives of family!

Attention all MD-1 Lions: Ads for the 2015 State Convention book are available for purchase. Any individual or organization can purchase a Convention book ad.

 A full page ad is $50 and is approximately 3.75” x 10.5” in size.  A half page ad is $30 and is approximately 3.75” x 5.25” in size.

Ads should be saved in a “.jpeg” file format and submitted electronically. Facsimile or hard copy ads will not be accepted. Ads should be in a reproducible black/white or grayscale format. Grayscale is recommended for photos.

Ads and payment must be received by the State office by 5:00 pm April 17, 2015 to be included in the Convention book.

At the close of the International Convention in Toronto, I realized that we have only two more years of planning before the start of the Centennial Celebration in Chicago at the 2017 Lions Clubs International Convention. First of all, I would like to thank the number of Lions throughout the State that have signed up already. Please be patient with me, since the information has been slow in coming from Lions Clubs International, but I can see that it will increase over the next couple of months. So, I am hoping by this Summer, that I will have more information that I can share with the Lions of MD-1 on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, the committee is still moving ahead with it fund raising activities. As your club starts putting together their budgets for the coming years, please keep in mind the 2017 MD-1 Host Committee. We have a patch that will be given to your club for your banner showing your support to the committee. There are three levels of donations starting at $100.00, then $250.00 and finally $500.00. Each level has a different patch and over the next couple of years your club can earn them all. I would like to thank those clubs and districts that have made a donation already. These funds will help in the support of the committee activities for the 2017 Convention.

The question has been asked about individuals who also would like to make a donation. The committee has put together a commemorative vest that will be given for such a donation. For a $25.00 donation, you will receive a blue vest that is similar to the one that you could have ordered from Lions Club International, but it is no longer available. It will have the outline of the State on the back and the convention information on the front panel. The vest will be ordered soon and available this fall.

The checks can be made out to the 2017 Lions Host Committee and mailed to Lion Bob Block, PDG. Please indicate your size that you would like for the vest.

For those who have purchased our Commemorative Pin, thank you. Sales have been strong not only throughout the state, but points beyond. We are working on the next pin and hope to have that ready by the Spring of 2015. Again, we have them available, so please consider getting one for each member of your club to mark this historical event.

For now, it looks like that we are well on the way to the 2017 Centennial Convention in Chicago. There is a lot of work to be done and unfortunately the funds need to be raised to help in the support of the committee. This State wide project will need all hands from the entire State to help in making this a success for both the State and Lions Clubs International. Only once in our life time will we be able to say that “we had an active part in the Centennial Celebration in Chicago in June of 2017”.

So, let’s be Proud of this honor and show the world our Pride in hosting this celebration.

Awards presented at the Kirkland Lions Club Annual Christmas Party The December meeting of the Kirkland Lions Club is their Annual Christmas Party and this year, two of the Club members received very special awards.

Lion Steve Boettger was awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship (MJF). Lion Steve is truly deserving of this award. He serves as the Kirkland Lions Club’s secretary, is the current Zone Chairman for the North East Zone, and is LIF District 1-D Trustee. In short, Lion Steve lives and breathes Lionism and is a role model for all he does. Presenting the award to Lion Steve is PDG Lion Ron Fruit. Funds donated to this program are the backbone of LCIF, providing 75 percent of the foundation's revenue. As recognition of humanitarian work, an MJF is an honor presented to those who donate US$1,000 to LCIF or to people for whom a donation was made by others.

MJF Facts: The Fellowship was established in 1973 and the Progressive program began in 1986 in response to Lions' request for a way to extend their commitment to LCIF. Donations through MJFs provide 75 percent of the Foundation's annual revenue.

There are 54 levels in the PMJF program.

As of the end of March 2014, there are 361,160 MJF recipients and 68,518 PMJF recipients worldwide.

All MJFs are invited to the annual luncheon held at the convention (ticket purchase required). The MJF luncheon began in 1984 and has been held at each convention since then.

The names of MJFs are displayed on a computer in the LCIF Room at the International Headquarters.

Lion Amy Polzin was awarded The Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow. She was a 100% president last year and has spearheaded several new projects for the Kirkland Lions Club. Funds donated in support of the Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow are put into the Lions of Illinois Endowment Fund in the honoree’s name and only the earnings from this donation will be used to support the programs and services for the visually and hearing impaired. The principal of the donation will remain forever as a lasting legacy of the commitment to Lionism by the honoree. Despite being completely surprised by the award, she noted how much she enjoys being a Lion and how truly remarkable the Kirkland Lions Club is. The members are always eager to step up to the plate to help wherever and whenever they are needed. Lion Amy received a plaque (presented by PDG Lion Ron Fruit, shown in photo) and a patch and pin for her vest.

His grandfather (and sponsor), Lion Larry Myelle has encouraged his grandsons to join him in activities such as the annual Fishing Derby and the Kirkland Lions Club Fourth of July Festivities and Lion Ben is always at these events with a smile and a willingness to roll up his sleeves and help. Welcome aboard, Lion Ben. We look forward to many years of service projects by your side.

The January meeting of the Kirkland Lions Club is their annual Chili/Oyster Supper and Auction. This year, seven other clubs were represented at this event and, in addition to some great tasting chili, oyster stew, and sandwiches, the auction portion saw some pretty new and unique items from old AllisChalmers tractor headlights to home-baked cookies. The auction runs the gamut! New, old, great, zonk. You just never know. As Lion Ed Silvers discovered, Lions seem to have the concept of hands-free phoning down, it’s just the technology that’s a little outdated.

Aurora Noon Lions donate $500 to United Way for Aurora food pantry

The Aurora (Ill.) Noon Lions Club recently donated $500 to the Fox Valley United Way’s sixth annual Souper Bowl of Caring community food drive.

The club’s donation was worth $4,000 in food purchasing power to the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry.

Lion Dick Schindel of Aurora, who originated the Souper Bowl of Caring as an East Aurora High School teacher and coach, presented the Lions’ check to Michael Meyer, United Way chief executive officer.

Meyer said, “With your help, this year’s Souper Bowl was our most successful ever, raising more than $7,800.

"With the pantries able to purchase $8 of food for each $1 donated, the actual purchasing power of this year's donations is more than $62,000!"

Donations from Kane County locations go the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry; donations from Kendall County go to the Yorkville pantry.

According to Meyer, the purpose of the Souper Bowl is to raise food and funds for the Aurora and Yorkville food pantries when donations typically are low.

One hundred percent of donations go to the pantries.

“Your contribution,” Meyer told the Lions, “will help ensure that the pantries have their shelves stocked during this lean time.

“By joining together, we are able to make an even bigger difference in our community.”

Founded in 1922, the Aurora Noon Lions Club meets at noon on the first and third Mondays of the month at Luigi’s Pizza, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.

A full size bronze statue was dedicated at a kick-off of the 53rd Annual Festival in October of 2014. As you can see from the pictures, the detail is amazing. His membership and the connection to the Lions Club is obvious to visitors. The City of Sycamore is planning a rebuilding of the area around the statue that will include a brick wall surrounding the monument. A brass plaque recognizing the major contributors will be included.

The 9AM to noon event turned into 3 hours 35 minutes of free hearing screening. At this recent event the Salem Lions Club tested hearing levels in 60 people, 1 child and 59 adults; 44% had some type of hearing loss. The home show is sponsored by the Salem Chamber of Commerce. The Salem Lions Club plans to make this an annual event during the first day of the home show. Lion Joe Krenkel representing the Lions of Illinois Foundation, did an exceptional job providing free hearing screening.

Lion Charlie Steuer from Belleville lent his support to the Salem Lions. Lion Mike Charman and Lion Kay Pugh were the co-chairs of this event. Hundreds of people attend the annual home show, the visible location near the entry doors was key. This was also the first nice day after weeks of snow and ice contributing to high attendance. Promotion of the event on facebook, radio and newspaper contributed to the success.

Lions club prepare bread pudding for Chili Day, held on March 2. This fundraiser has been an annual event for several years and the feature is their Bread Pudding. Between meals at the St. James United Methodist Church and deliveries, we served 1,325 meals. Ticket money is still coming in, but as of today we're just short of $11,000 in gross receipts. Since we have very few expenses, most of that will be profit.

Naperville Noon Lions Club Pres. Lion Jim Ebers recently presented Amy Bosko, a 10th grade Naperville North H.S. student, with an $8,000 grant so that she may attend Blind, Inc.’s PREP program in Minneapolis MN this summer from June 14— August 17. This program is designed for blind high school students (16 year old Amy has been blind since birth). The curriculum includes preparation for academic, employment and social success and it gives the students confidence and belief in themselves that they need to find and keep jobs. The

The Thomson Lions Club is contributing to the year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Village of Thomson. Thomson Depot Days will take place on June 20 with a music, a professional riverboat Captain speaker, crafts, a quilt show, rides for kids, and the re-activation of the annual “Outhouse Race”! All Lions Clubs are invited to enter an Outhouse on wheels and pushed by four with one “pot-sitter”.

July 24-26th is the BIG BLAST Festival in Thomson with ballgames, carnival, parade, and Fireworks.

Walt Whitman, a/k/a Brian ”the Fox” Ellis, will

speak on Lincoln and free balloon and games for the kids will take place. The American Legion will have a Beer Garden for the adults. A petting zoo, softball exhibitions, a cemetery walk, and a multitude of other events including a car show will take place.

The big Sesquicentennial Parade will take place on Saturday, July 25th at noon with registration at 11 a.m. Floats, special appearances by General Grant and Abe Lincoln, antique tractors and automobiles, and a show of community will celebrate the 150 th special event. A special $100 prize will be given to the best Lions Club entry donated by the Thomson Lions Club. Please try to show your “pride” and be a part of this historic event. PDG Lawrence Bruckner will host a fellowship hour after the parade at the Legion Beer Tenet. Come to Thomson 1-D and toast our 150th!
