New Delhi/Udupi, Mar 16: In a historic moment for Konkani literature, the Central Sahitya Akademi has announced the 2025 Annual Award for H M Pernal’s seminal work of literary criticism, Konkani Kavyem: Rupam ani Rupakam (Konkani Poetry: Forms and Metaphors). This recognition marks the first time inhistory thata book of criticism in the Konkani language has been honoured with
this prestigious national award. Published by Kavita Publications in both Devanagari and Kannada scripts, the book features an insightful foreword by Jnanpith Award-winning author Damodar Mauzo.
The recipient, Henry Ignatius Mendonca, who has written under the pen name H M Pernal for over 35 years, hails from Pernal in Udupi district. This award brings the Sahitya Akademi honour back to Karnatakaafteragapofeight years, following previous laureates from the region such as Chafra D’Costa, Gokuldas Prabhu, Melvyn Rodrigues, and Edwin J F D'Souza. Besides, J. B. Moraes and J B
Sequeira, Mangaloreans resided in Mumbai alsogot thisaward. Pernal is a prolific figure in the literary circuit, having previously published acclaimedpoetry collections suchas Chalyank Chatray, Kaydyachyo Kavita, and Janel, as well as short story collections including Devak Sodlo Pado andBeeganiBigath. Israel’ssecurityscenario hasgreatly deteriorated. It is now battling on five fronts: Gaza, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon,Syria,and845soldiers and 69 police officers killed since October 7, 2023, is the highest figure foranyofitswarssince 1967. The 8 soldiers killed on October 2nd,2024,insouthernLebanonisits largest single-day loss during the same period. On October 10, a missile strike on its Golani Brigade training centre killed four soldiers andinjured49others.Besides,ithas lost 363 of its land armour assetsMerkava tanks, armoured vehicles andbulldozers.
Israel has also haemorrhaged political and diplomatic support worldwide and is now widely regarded as a “Rogue” or Pariah State”. In a recent UN General Assembly vote, 174 countries, with 94% ofthe world population, voted
infavourofPalestinianpolitical selfdetermination. In comparison, only 4 countries, representing 4% of the world’s population – Israel, the United States, Micronesia, and Nauru – voted against.15 countries abstained.
Even more damaging for Israel are the financial andeconomic costs of itsmulti-front warsofthepreceding twelve months. In May 2024, the Bank of Israel revealed that these hadcost$65billion.ItsEilatporthas declared bankruptcy. Its CEO, Gideon Gilbert, indicated that Yemeni Houthi attacks hadreduced shiparrivals atitby 85 per cent and plummeted its revenues. Exports of Israel’s most high-value item, polisheddiamonds,hadplummeted by 33 per cent in the first seven months of 2024. Tourist arrivals have also plummeted. All this has resultedinasharpdeclineinIsrael’s export earnings, credit rating, and the value of the shekel. This has necessitated the temporary closure ofsome ofitsministries.
Palestine has suffered mammoth losses. Its official figures indicate that 62,614 Palestinians have died. The reputed Lancet journal gives
this figure as 186,00. The destruction of housing, civilian infrastructure, and livelihoods exceeds 80%. However, these enormous losses have secured substantial global sympathy for them and their “cause” has progressed more in the last year than in the preceding three decades.
Pro-Palestinian rallies have been held in over 100 cities, college campuses and sports stadia from Canberra, Manila and Jakarta to Cairo, Cape Town, Madrid, Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico,CaracasandSao Polo.
Asmost ofthese rallies inEuropean and US cities have been led by ‘Jewish Voices for Peace’ (JVP) and ‘Rabbis for Palestine’, which have denounced “Zionist Israel”,the vital factthatIsraelis aZionist andnot a Jewish State, as it claims, has been amply clarified. JVP’s most widely reported protestwasonOctober 14, 2024, when 500 of its members, wearing T-shirts with “Not in our Name’ and ‘Stop Arming Israel’ printed on them, staged a sit-in “in front of the New York Stock Exchange.InapostonX,theywrote,
“As Gaza is bombed, Wall Street booms. Stock prices of weapons manufacturers have skyrocketed. The U.S. economy is profiting from genocide.”
On29 December 2023, South Africa notified the International Court of Justice that Israel’s indiscriminate bombing of the Gaza Strip was a contravention ofthe1948 Genocide Convention. Spain, Belgium, Bolivia, Ireland, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Chile, Colombia, Nicaragua, the Maldives and Mexico subsequently joined it in this case. On May 24, 2024 ICJ ruled that:“TheStateofIsraelshall, in conformity with its obligations under the Genocide Convention and in view of grave conditions faced by civilians in Rafah immediately halt its military offensive, keep open the Rafah crossing for unhindered entry of humanitarian assistance; and submit a report on measures taken on this Order, within one month fromitsdate.ofthisOrder”
On July 19, 2024, the ICJ ruled that “Israel’s occupation of the West Bank,GazaStrip, andEastJerusalem are unlawful”. The UN Security Council(UNSC Resolution 2334)has
unequivocally declared Israel’s settlements inoccupiedPalestineto be in flagrant violation of international law;allthesearemajor legal gains for Palestine. Palestine now hastop rungsupporters in the United States, which is Israel’s strongest supporter. Professor Jeffrey Sachs has already been mentioned. Senator Bernie Sanders inarecentspeechdeclared“TheUS should stop funding Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war in Gaza, This week 19 people have been killed and scores injured in a strike in its humanitarian zone An AmericanhasbeenshotintheWest Bankandschool bombed, killing 14 people, including6UN aidworkers” In an earlier speech he had described Netanyahu as a “war criminal”Palestinehasalsoreceived significant support from Russia, which has invited it to attend the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, October 22-24.Israeltodayisinthe same strategic, diplomatic, financial and economic situation that Apartheid South Africa was before itscollapseinearly1990 andNelson Mandela was released on February 11, 1990. The big question is what
will happen in Israel. If it wishes to adopt the South African example (which is unlikely), it should release Marwan Barghouti, leader of the two Palestinian Intifadas, the first (1987 – 1993) andthe second (2000 -2005), whom Palestinians respect muchmore thanPalestineAuthority Chairman Mahmud Abbas.Some of them have described him as ‘Palestine’sNelsonMandela’!

Today24March,iscelebratedasthe FeastofSt.OscarRomero. Itwason this day in 1980; he was brutally gunneddown whilstcelebrating the Eucharist in his native El Salvador. Hewasafiercelyoutspoken criticof his government, the military and of
the fascist elements of his country, for their continued exploitation and exclusion of the poor. It was they who killed him! He visibly and vocallytook sideswiththepoor, the marginalized, the vulnerable, the excludedandtheexploitedandwith allwho were victimsofinjustice. His martyrdom spontaneously made him a ‘Saint’ for millions of his people. It was estimated that more than 250,000 were present at his funeral asa sign of gratitude to the manwho didsomuchforthem and whom they deeply loved.
Inhishomily,afewmoments before he was assassinated Romero said, “manydonotunderstand,andthey think Christianity should not get involved insuchthings(taking a standfortruthandjustice).But,to thecontrary, youhavejustheard Christ'sGospel,thatonemustnot love oneself somuchastoavoid gettinginvolvedintherisksoflife whichhistorydemandsofus,that thosewhowouldavoidthedanger willlosetheirlife,whilethosewho
out of love for Christ give themselvestotheserviceofothers willlive,likethegrainofwheatthat dies,butonlyapparently.Ifitdid notdie,itwouldremainalone.The harvest comes about because it dies,allowsitselftobesacrificedin theearthanddestroyed. Onlyby destroying itself does it produce theharvest”.
The night before (23 March) his murder, Archbishop Romero made apersonal butpowerful appeal,ina desperate attempt to place some sort of moral obstacle before the escalating pace of the killing in El Salvador. Hespoke directly tothose soldiers who were most responsible for the growing horror; he asked them to disobey their superiors. He said, “Iwouldliketoappealina specialwaytothemenofthearmy,” hesaid,“andtothetroopsofthe NationalGuard,thepoliceandthe garrisons.Brothers,youbelongto ourownpeople.Youkillyourown brotherpeasants;andinthefaceof anordertokillthatisgivenbya man,thelawofGodthatsays,‘Do notkill!’shouldprevail.Nosoldieris obligedtoobeyanordercounterto
thelawofGod.Noonemustcomply withimmorallaw.Itistimenowthat you recover your conscience and obey itsdictates rather than the commandofsin....Therefore,inthe nameofGod,andinthenameof this long-suffering people, whose lamentsrisetoheaveneveryday moretumultuous,Ibeseechyou,I begyou,Icommandyou!Inthe name of God: ‘Cease the repression!’” The applause that followed was so thunderous the radio station’s beleaguered audio technicians at first took it for some sort of short circuit or feedback in the system that had knocked the good archbishop off the air. Sadly, that passionate appeal was his death sentence!
Three years earlier, on March 12, 1977, Archbishop Romero's dear friend Jesuit Fr. Rutilio Grande, was cruelly murdered by government thugs. Grande had been living in solidarity with the rural poor and speaking out against the military government. Grande’s death was a watershed moment for Archbishop Romero, ashe realizedthat being a Catholic and being a priest meant standing with the poor andbeing a prophet against the establishment. Archbishop Romero ordered three days of mourning and a funeral mass in San Salvador's cathedral, despite advice to the contrary from those who feared government repercussions. Romero experienced aprofound conversion atthe death of Grande, publicly declaring, “WhenIlookedatRutiliolyingthere dead,Ithought…I,too, mustwalk the same path”. He defended Grande's work with the poor as rooted in faith, not politics,
famously urging that the Church "cannotremain silentbefore such injustice".
On December 21, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly, in a fitting annual tribute to Oscar Romeroproclaimed March24asthe InternationalDayfortheRightto theTruthConcerningGrossHuman RightsViolationsandfortheDignity ofVictims :
•to honour the memory of victims of gross and systematic human rights violations and promote the importance oftheright totruth and justice.
• to pay tribute to those who have devoted their lives to and lost their livesinthestruggle topromote and protect humanrights forall.
• to recognise the important work and values of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero ofElSalvador, who was assassinated on 24 March 24,1980, after denouncing violations ofthehumanrightsofthe most vulnerable populations and defending the principles of protecting lives, promoting human dignity and opposition to all forms ofviolence.
India today is steeped in untruth, injustice, corruption and communalism. Those who take a stand for justice and truth are, harassed, incarcerated and even killed, like Romero! Corruption is mainstreamed:beitdemonetization or the Electoral Bonds scam. The minorities (particularly Muslims, Christian and Sikhs) are at the receiving end of a brutal system; divisiveness and discrimination rule the roost. Several political and socalled ‘religious’ leaders use hate speeches and even resort to violence, to nurture their lust for power andgreed forwealth. People are kept divided andon the fringes of society, for whimsical reasons. Truth and Justice are conveniently sacrificed for petty political gains; those whose primary duty is to propagate and protect our Constitution, our democratic ethos and pluralistic fabric, just abdicate their responsibility; they feel either too embarrassed or very frightened totakeastandortheyjustsuccumb tothe‘diktats’oftheirmasters. The Election Commission is a classic case; the way they have used the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to
disenfranchise thousands of legitimate voters, is in the public domain. Even sections of the judiciary are not beyond reproach! Draconian, anti-Constitutional and anti-people policies/legislation like theCitizenshipAmendment Act,the National Education Policy, thethree anti-small farmer laws, the four labour codes which areanti-worker, the anti-conversion laws, the Uniform Civil Code first in UttarakhandandnowinGujarat;the weaponisation ofthe useof foreign funds, the treatment meted out to transgenders andmuchmore!
India needs a Romero today! Romero was never afraid to highlight the painful realities of his people andto take onthe power of his land! He got out of his comfort zone andasatrue disciple of Jesus, he stuck his neck out on behalf of his suffering people! Some days beforehewaskilled,Romerostated, “asaChristian,Idonotbelievein deathwithoutresurrection.IfIam killed,IshallriseintheSalvadoran people.”His words are still chanted today,“theycankillme,buttheywill never kill justice” . Today, our
Country and Church desperately need an Oscar Romero (not just one, but many!). A Romero who is not afraid to speak truth to power, to take on the fascist, fundamentalist and fascist forces who are doing all they can to destroy the Constitutional rights and freedoms of the ordinary citizen. A Romero who is neither a hypocrite nor takes recourse to diplomatic ‘niceties’, who is not a puppet or a plaything for foreign regimes! Someone who can say ‘NO’ to war, violence and hate! A Romero who has spine, who exemplifies servant-leadership and
hastheprophetic couragetodie for others, so that they may rise! Will a Romero or many Romeros, emerge from among our Bishops, clerics, religious andeven laity?
Jesus reminds us, “fearnoone….!” WANTED then: a ROMERO for INDIA,TODAY!

This proposal, made to Vice Admiral Ralf von der Marwitz, German navalattachéat Ankara was handed over by him to the German Ambassador to Turkey, on 21 January 1941, who sent it to Berlin but received no response.

Lehi, founded in 1940 by Avraham Stern, was a breakaway from Irgun over a dispute about tactics. He wrote:“Ourcurrentleadershavenot learnttosay‘No'totheBritish.They are ghetto Jews. It is up to us, a small minority, to change this”. He called for Eretz Israel a state extending from the Nile to the Euphrates. Its 42 assassinations in the 1942 – 1948 period, of British officers & Jewish officials working for them, were double the number of those of Haganah & Irgun combined.

We are people who have been conditioned by hierarchy, clericalism and patriarchy, byritesandritualsandin the political arena, by fascists, fundamentalists and fanatics!There
are cunning manipulators and powerful vested interests who hold theworldtoransomtoday!Theyare determined to cover the ‘Epstein Files’ with the blood of innocent people. Have we participated in protests this bloody war? It is one month now and already billions of dollars have been wastefully incurred. InIndiadraconian lawsare put in place, which throttle the rights and freedom of the ordinary citizen. The palm therefore is a reminder that one needs to proactively participate in the building of God’s Kingdom of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity in the here and now! Shouting ‘hosannas’is not enough! Oneneedstosmell ofthesheep,be whereitmattersthemost!Togoout from the comfort of the sacristies and onto the streets! One needs to breakfreeanddoallonecantohelp remove theshackleswhichtiedown our sisters and brothers. That is ‘Passover’. That is Palm Sunday! Participation intheNOWmoment is essential.
Articulation:
One needs the courage of one’s
conviction to articulate one’s hope. The crowds who came out to welcome Jesus demonstrated the unflinching courage to articulate their expectations and in a deeper way, their faith in the one who they truly believed was not only a prophet butalsotheMessiah!Those who controlled their destinies could no longer cow them down. They sing their hosannas, loud andclear, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessedistheonewhocomesinthe nameoftheLord!Hosannainthe highestheaven!” The angels sang similar words that first night in Bethlehem whenthischildwasborn inastable. Now they use thewords ‘King of Israel’ without any hesitation. The Prophet said long ago that hewould come in humility seated on a donkey and they revel in this fulfillment. We are all called today to take a visible and vocal stand against all the evil, the injustices that plague our nation and our world today. We are called to be persons who radiate the light ofChrist.Hidingorbeingdiplomatic because of our fears; our desire to protect our power, possessions, privileges, pride and positions is
anathema to the person and message ofJesus.
Love:
Allthatmatters islove.Alove which issteadfastandunconditional.Jesus shows us that he radiates this merciful love always! The people (the hoi-polloi) take offtheir cloaks, their outer garments and spread them on the roads; break branches ofpalmandwaveouttohim. These are spontaneous expressions of love. Openly done and perhaps at great risk! The significance of those actionswill never belost. Theywere not just acts of welcome or the subservient salutations to royalty. There were many more. They were externalmanifestations,togetridof the obstacles that encumbered one inwelcomingtheMessiahintoone’s heartand intoone’s life.Thecloaks were going tobe trampled upon by the donkey, which in some ways
represent the temporariness of all that ismaterial. The breaking of the branches for the welcome also signifiestheconstant pruningatree needs,tobeargoodfruit,tobefilled with compassion. In our world today, which attempts to maintain greatest hate and prejudice, war andviolence,thepalmisareminder that only love triumphs! An unequivocal message as we enter the holiest week of the Church’s liturgical year!
Mission:
Thetriumphant entryintoJerusalem wasfor Jesusa‘mission statement’. ‘Jerusalem’ isnolonger aparticular place.Itistheplacewe standatthis moment-that is our ‘sacred space’. Inthe past,Jesussaid,“myhourhas notyetcome.”Now he is open, he
is defiant, a true revolutionary who fully believes in the mission which has been entrusted to him.; he knows that he is at the end of the journey. In a few days from now, in great agony, but with a sense of triumph we will boldly proclaim from thecross, “Itisaccomplished!” For the people who wave at him with their hosannas, he looks at them with a pierced heart, “Very soon,youwillshout,‘CrucifyHim!’”. Theyareawaretheydonothavethe courage and the honesty to follow himto thecross.They will deny him several times over. Yet his supreme sacrificewillchallengealltolivethat mission here on earth today. Our Synodal journey is about communion, participation and mission. The palm reminds us that onemustbefocusedonthemission thathasbeenentrustedtousandto do allwe cantorealise that mission inthehere andnow!

That was John, with whom I had struck a friendship. We enjoyed whatIcalla'fond'relationship since ourpathscrossedat,ofallplaces,an airport bookshop. He is a brilliant and successful engineer. Successful becauseheowns atwo storied fivebedroom country home overlooking lush Rolling Meadows and gentle slopes in the heart of Christian south inAmerica.
In his early forties, a very eligible bachelor, he is. Well, not really: he didmingle stayingsingle.
Jane on the other hand is his latest 'baby'. In her mid-thirties, she had this open but committed relationship with John since eight long years. When I met her later in the evening, she oozed confidence in her splendid evening gown: the kindonlyacareerwoman,especially a successful investment banker, carries well.
"Wearegonnatakeourrelationship to a higher level" said Jane, after a fewdrinks. Iwaitedinsilence.
"Let me translate that into English, Philip. We are planning our wedding". The way he said it, I thought the groom was not very enthusiastic about marriage. Married men like me can sense trouble from a mile. Is the sevenyear itchvisitingthis lovely couple?
"We have things to work out, beginning with the engagement". Janeexplained.
"Okay, is there something I can do to helpout?" Ioffered.
"Jane wants me to buy her an engagement ring, a diamond ring and in fact she has detailed specifications including the minimum price tag".

I could hear their voices, decibels rising with each passing minute for what I thought was an eternity. I saunteredonto the patio,litthe gas grill, and fixed my dinner. Tender

Then the bedroom door opened and out emerged the lovely couple glowing in the aftermath of a passionate love-making session.

"Yea, now I am sure he loves me as much as I love him. The diamond ring proves it". Jane purred like a satisfiedcat.

Most parents were born when the thought of mobile phones, internet and social
media werealienand nowsuddenly in the span of 20 years, they are confused and forced to accept the fact that they are in a changed modern era.
As parents struggle to adapt to the ongoing technological advancements, the children often demonstrate rapid proficiency in these developments, creating a significant disparity. This gap
frequently leadsparents toquestion their ability to keep pace with their children's digital expertise. This situation leads to significant confusion and anxiety among parents, whomayfinditchallenging to guide children that possess advanced knowledge of the world yet exhibit heightened emotional needs. Parents navigating the challenges of raising children in the 21st century, while recalling their own childhood experiences, often encounter significant internal conflict and question why contemporary childhood differs from their own.Thus, the parents overburdened by the situation start to analyse and find answers to themain question on understanding the ‘Childhood’ of the children, often resume the role of achild psychologist andscientist to analyse and understand every action and behaviour of ‘theChild’ asmentioned by EnnisRichmondin her book ‘ The Mind of a Child’ in 1901. Eventhough this was written a century back by the author it makes more sense in the modern world about parenting. She
wrote parents often focus on understanding every action andfinding out the reason for such action that they end up in treating the child as a ‘specimen’ to be studied ratherthanasa‘person’.In her book the author mentions that theadultsfocuson ‘thechild’losing most important sight of ‘the childhood’.Thisbringsustothetask of finding the answer to the important question that is, “What do wemean by childhood?”
According to the Oxford English Dictionary the word ‘childhood’ means the state of being a child.
Therefore, childhood includes freedom of expression, carefree nature, curiosity, joyfulness, playful activities, imaginary playtime and many more activities the child
does without being judged. It’s the period with spans from birth to puberty. Childhood, in its ideal terms, should be happy for every child. Let us apply this understanding of childhood to the modern world and reflect upon ‘How does life look like for the children of 21 stcentury? How do parents, teachers and communities work together to provide guidance, a safe and healthy environment for the children to enjoy their childhood in this digital age.
Modern childhood ismarkedby the digital footprint of the child even
before birth. The phrase ‘21 st century children’ evoke images of radicalchangewithaparadigm shift inchildhood from the previous way of being. These children enjoy better facilities in terms of health,
education and standard of living. Technological advancements have favoured children’s development in many areas such as getting information at the fingertips, connection with their well-wishers and friends, exploration of any area of their interest online, cross-border connections, umpteen learning opportunities and many more. There are also several dangers associated with the exposure to digital media such as online bullying, gap between knowledge andemotional development, online addiction etc. Given these changes, it's essential to examine childhood within a holistic framework that considers both opportunities and challenges.
Children today face stress for several reasons. Their curiosity now
has endless sources ofinformation, which often draws them deeper than they intended. Many business organisations are eager to profit from children's curiosity, often without ethical consideration, causing increased screen addiction among youngsters. They struggle with time management as they addictively spend time on digital media and then parents try to engage children with structuredactivities thinking of all round development of the children. Whether children get time to really relax and or explore on their own is a big question mark. Thismight cause a deep conflict within the child regarding external pressure and unmet internal wants.
Beyond challenges within the family, schools provide a highly supervised environment where children are frequently reminded by teachers and administrators not to touch each other or run, to prevent injuries. Today's education system aims to equip children with the skills needed to tackle unpredictable future challenges brought about by technological advancements. This approach placesadditional pressure on students to acquire knowledge andskillsbeyondwhatisincludedin their curriculum. Moreover, children are required to face the ‘Parent Teacher Meeting’ to be evaluated (ortobejudged?) oftheir‘academic progress’ every quarter.Thissystem steals freedom from children to enjoy childhood, where thechildren are systematically controlled and moulded as per the wishes of the adults, rather than providing them with a safe environment and required guidance forrealizingtheir own potential anddreams.
Our communities have provided better living standards in terms of health care andrecreational
facilities for the children. Expectations of communities are also being elevated for thechild disciple, better performance, sports performance, structural play rather than free play etc. The scope of ‘explore and learning by the childrenissystematicallyreducedas thecommunities oftendemandand encourage only what they define as success, discouraging any effort of thechildren toexplore on theirown to learn to succeed. Therefore, thecommunities have built tuition centres, various sports facilities for structuringthechild,andartclasses. Inthismachinerybuiltbythesociety children rather not think of childhood but become simply the rawmaterial forgetting mouldedto
become the good, complacent members ofthesociety.
Therefore,itisimportant forallofus the ‘adults’ to pause and reflect upon the fact that the ‘future’ was and is unseen from the time of the beginning of humanity. Children should be given a fair chance to enjoy thatprecious childhood. Children must be treated as people more than mere problem solvers of the future. This world is as much as ours. How about letting them explore, experience andlearnrather than forcing them to learn through the dark lenses that we wear? Now the big bad world is limitless.

Every person, family, business or school can use International Day of Zero Waste to take stock of the ways they consume without thinking. Below are some of the ways where wecanavoidwastage.
1) Avoid Food wastage- Take as muchasyoucan.Manyaredeprived ofthehealthy food.
2) Eliminate single- use products like throw-away paper plates or plastic forks or single use plastics. Take cloth bag while leave for the shopping or grocery.
3) Avoid usage of motorcycle vehicle for a short distance where wecansavethefuel.Walkingforthe short distances appreciated.

Approximately one billion tonnes of edible food were wasted across the globe. Thisrepresents nearly19% of all food available to consumers. Another end million suffer from hunger andfoodinsecurity. He urged journalists to report such issues sensitively and responsibly to build awareness insociety.
Dr. Sridhar, Health Specialist at UNICEF, spoke on child health and the importance of a balanced diet. Heemphasized thatchildren’s daily meals must include proper nutrients, including fruits, vegetables, proteins, and grains, whicharevitalforbothphysical and mental development. Speaking on diabetes, he explained its different types, particularly Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. He noted that Type 1
diabetes is more common among children andislargely influencedby genetic factors,where thecondition can be passed on from parents through genes. He also discussed diagnostic methods such as fasting blood sugar tests, postprandial tests, andHbA1c tests, highlighting their importance in early detection and management of diabetes. He added that promoting a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and proper dietary habits, can help
prevent many diseases, including diabetes.

Throughout her career, she collaborated and performed with legendary music directors and singers, including Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus, P H Pinto, Henry D'souza,andVictor Concessao. Some of her most memorable and hit songs include "Fulwali," "Try Try Try," and "Daddy," which remain popular among Konkani music enthusiasts eventoday. Her passing marks the end of an era for the Konkani stage in Mumbai and Mangaluru.

into business operations. The event took place on March 28 at St. Sebastian Parish Hall, Bendur, to equip local business leaders with the knowledge necessary to leverage AI for business expansion and enhanced operational efficiency.
Rachana President Roy Castelino inaugurated the proceedings by welcoming attendees and introducing the programme’s speakers. He highlighted the initiative’s core objective: to furnish participants with a comprehensive understanding ofAItechnology and its potential applications in fostering business growth and streamlining processes.
LeoVictor Zalki, anAIstrategist and
Director of Oxidane Enviro LLP, delivered a discourse on the multifaceted advantages of artificial intelligence, coupled with the imperative for its responsible use. He cautioned attendees about data privacy concerns, emphasizing that AI’s functionality depends on collecting and analyzing user data. Zalki cited the exponential growth of platforms like ChatGPT as tangible evidence of AI’s burgeoning prominence.
Furthermore, he encouraged the participants to exercise prudence in their engagement with digital tools and to maintain vigilance against the pervasive threat of cyber fraud andscams.

corporations, is now readily accessible and demonstrably advantageous for small businesses and individual entrepreneurs alike.
“Today, AI tools are cloud-based, affordable, and accessible through smartphones and laptops. Entrepreneurs canuseAIasadigital assistant for marketing, administration, customer service, and data analysis,” he stated, emphasizing the transformative potential ofthesetechnologies.
Dr. Paul clarified that AI’sintention is not to replace entrepreneurs but rather to augment their efficacy by
supporting the diverse roles they fulfill within their respective business ventures.
