Aon colleagues at the Nelspruit branch spent their “Global Service Day” at the Pro Pet Life Rescue which is home to 130 dogs and 30 cats.

and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

May we be diligent in our “race,” may we keep our eyes on the goal, and may we, like Paul, finish strong.

Question: "What did Paul mean when he said he had fought the good fight?"

Answer:In2 Timothy 4:7, Paul says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

This well-known and oft-quoted passage is quite significant in that this epistle was Paul's last before his martyrdom in A.D. 67.

It is a deeply moving

affirmation of his unwavering faith and unyielding love for the gospel of Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:4;Galatians 2:20;Philippians 1:21).

“I have fought the good fight” is also significant for believers today because it serves as a stark reminder that the Christian life is a struggle against evil—within ourselves and in the world (John 15:9;Romans 8:7;James 4:4).

Earlier in this same epistle, Paul reminded Timothy to “endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3).

The Greek wordagonizomai, translated

“fought,” means literally “to engage in conflict.” The word was used in the context of competing in athletic games or engaging in military conflict.

Considering that Paul was chained to a Roman soldier when he wrote this epistle, it would have been easy for him to make such an analogy.

In fact, he had known many Roman soldiers and during his imprisonment had won a number of them to Christ, some of them members of the Praetorian Guard (Philippians 1:13).

Our battle is not with flesh and blood “but against

principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

The Christian life is a fight in that Christians face a never-ending struggle against evil—not an earthly military campaign, but a spiritual battle against Satan.

This is why we must “take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day” (seeEphesians 6:13-18).

GOD YOUR HUSBAND W idowed women in the Gert Sibande District have been encouraged to invest their money in educating their children and taking care of the household as single parents.

This transpired during the celebrations of the Women's Month, where the Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature, Ms Thandi Shongwe led the gathering of widowed women during the Widows Forum at Gert Sibande District Council on 13th of August 2015.

The aim of the forum is to sensitize and educate widowed women about their rights and responsibilities as single parents.

“The widows are often faced with hardships and social stigmatization when the husband has departed from this earth. Be stingy to men and be protective of your children,” said Speaker Shongwe as she discouraged them from falling in love with young men, the so-called “Ben 10's”.

Speaker Shongwe said the Widows Forum will provide a platform to share with each other, challenges and frustrations experienced by widows so that these matters can be socially addressed. Speaker Shongwe also advised that a District forum should be established that will deal with all issues faced by widows in Gert Sibande District.

“The structure will have representatives from each local municipality within the district and it will be the link between the community of widows and the Legislature,” said Speaker Shongwe a she outlined the purpose of the forum.

The Speaker also advised the widows to consult with institutions such as the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE), South African Female Lawyers Association and the Department of Social Development for assistance when they are faced with challenges relating to their situation as widows, so they can be easily assisted.

Ms Zodwa Maseko a representative from the Department of Social Development encouraged widows to undergo the three stages of grieving; that is; shock, loss and acceptance in order to be able to deal with the their loss.

“It becomes very difficult for widows to manage their finances when their loved ones have departed from this earth,” said Ms Nomaswazi Shabangu the Chairperson from the South African Women Lawyers Association (Mpumalanga Region).She advised them to get assistance from a financial expert or a qualified lawyer.

The event was graced

by Apostle Phakathi, who told the gathering that “It is acceptable to be a widow because your husband is Jesus.

Our God does not sleep nor slumber and He is always watching over you,” said Apostle Phakathi as he shared the word of God. This event will take place yearly at this time of the year to also coincide with women’s month.

I-school Project Continues To Shine

O

n the 29th to the 31st of July 2015, iSchool Africa, CSIR and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform re-visited the schools that were issued with i-pads last year in Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibane District in Mpumalanga.

The aim of the visit was to obtain progress of the programme on all the grades.

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform contracted iSchool Africa to introduce the modern method of learning last year in poor rural school in the CRDP areas.

The first visit was at Vukuzenzele Combined School which is located at Perdekop farm in Pixley KaSeme Municipality. The school consists of 1357 learners grade R to Grade 12.

The Deputy Principal, Mr Matlika said the i-pad learning programme has great impact on learners; it has improved their learning ability in Maths and English and also reduced the absenteeism rate since all learners are interested in learning with modern technology.

On the 30th of July, the visit was at Mlilo Combined School in Rustplaas Farm in Piet Retief. The focus was mostly on literacy and numeracy as Grade 1 learners demonstrated their talent through drawings while using i-pads.

The teachers commented on the programme and said the applications are user friendly to all learners and make their life easy in preparing for lessons as the apps combines Maths and Literacy.

The Principal, Mr Mavuso shared the same sentiments and said that learners feel more motivated to learn and that there's been positive outcomes including increased pass rate percentage and decrease in dropout rate.

The last visit was on the 31st of July 2015 at Ndlavela Primary School

The level of selfconfidence portrayed, sentence construction, content and corresponding pictures used was very impressive considering that the tasks were individual assignments with no assistance from the educators but peers.

One of the learners Zoleka Nkuna said that the gadgets are exposing them to world class information and placing them on the same competitive platform as their urban counterparts. She said every learner deserves to be afforded such an opportunity, more especially in the rural areas. The gadgets are life changing and empowering.

At the last stop Dlamadoda High School, Grade 11 learners were tasked

with creating an e-book on their career choice.

What was impressive to note at all the schools visited was that the gadgets allows learners to become independent in their learning and articulation of their mind sets. Ms Lesley Mashele, Principal at Ndlavela Primary School appreciates that personalized content for Swati reading lessons has been added to increase learner's skills level, interests and needs.

Other than iSchool Africa who are the front runners of this project, the Department has forged stronger ties with CSIR. The aim is to jointly continue to work towards the goal of basic computer literacy, the provision of ICT services, and access to information in rural areas.

Mayor Of Lekwa Municipality Hit The Ground

58-year old Ms Rita Shabangu from Ireagh Village in Bushbuckridge heaved a sigh of relief when the Mpumalanga Department of Human Settlements began with the construction of her new RDP house earlier this month.

Shabangu who is a custodian to six children says that her family depended entirely on the government's social grant and that they could not build themselves a proper house. The construction project is part the Department's People Housing Process (PHP) which has made tremendous successes in providing adequate housing for the needy.

Expressing her gratitude, Shabangu said that these developments have come at the right time since their current house was beginning to rundown.

“We are grateful to our government for living up to their promise to help us. It has been a scaring experience to share the one room house with the kids especially during storm and rainy days,” she said excitedly.

Though the construction of her new house is underway, the excited Shabangu pointed out that this will bring massive relieve for the family.

During the Budget Vote tabling for the current financial year, MEC Violet Siwela reiterated that the establishment of integrated sustainable human settlements did not by any chance undermine the delivery of housing opportunities to communities through the other programmes.

She said, “Given its rural nature; people who live in such parts of the province were also developed through the construction of 2 358 housing units. These opportunities were mainly provided through the People's Housing Process and rural interventions

Programmes.”

MEC Added that as much as great success was recorded during the 2014/15 financial year, “We are not by any chance complacent. The delivery of quality services will continue to reach every corner of the province.”

The delivery of PHP is

part of the Department's plan to empower and development communities in rural areas.

The Department has planned to deliver 2725 PH P units in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality and 363 in the province during the 2015/16 financial year.

Stolen Bakkie Recovered In Chrissiesmeer By: Goodwill Thomo

A

swift reaction by Chrissiesmeer police regarding a tip off information appertaining thereunto of a suspected stolen vehicle in Newcastle received, successfully yield positive results in fast tracking the stolen bakkie on Monday afternoon at around 13:00. Chrissiesmeer police and the local farm patrol were alerted about the stolen vehicle .Acting on the lead to the corsa bakkie information they received they launched a manhunt to fast track the vehicle. Upon their arrival in Kwachibikhulu Township they spotted a corsa bakkie that fitted their description packed outside the street near the suspect house.

Police confronted a female occupant who set the records straight, that the vehicle belongs to Sibusiso Nkosi who claimed ownership of the car.

During the campaign the Provincial Treasury in partnership with participating sponsors and banks sought to raise funds which will be used to build and furnish at least four houses for the needy families in Matsulu and surroundings.

ruesome discovery made within the forestry plantation rocks Chrissiesmeer.

The decomposed body of Gogo Margaret Monica Ngcobo (71) of Holnek farm in Chrissiesmeer was grisly discovered after a massive manhunt conducted by the police and dog unit to no avail.

The tragic and disturbing incident raised eyebrows and dropped jaws after being brought under the spotlight. Gogo Margaret went missing on 23 May 2015.

According to Chrissiesmeer police Gogo Margaret's son Mavela Ngcobo

spotted a dog dragging what was perceived as a human leg upon a hot on heels investigation he made the grisly discovery of her Mother's decomposed body.

Chrissiesmeer police pronounced that her remains were discovered in the hills within the forestry plantation not attached to the body and limbs missing.

Mavela stumbled upon the grisly discovery and swiftly summoned the police to the scene. The body was sent to the forensics department in Pretoria to establish the cause of the death.

You want to start a little company – shall we call it BigDream Creations – but you need some money to grow. So you ask five friends for R10 000 each. But your friends don't want to lend you their money because they are

scared you won't pay it back, so together you all decide they can own half your company in return for that money.

The company issues 10 shares. Each of the investors buys one “share” in BigDream and because of your still own half the company you get 5 shares.

BigDream has R50 000 to use for its growth (the money isn't yours – it belongs to BigDream). PLUS, your friends say that they want a small part of the company's profit every year (they want a dividend).

I

t all started with Coach Owen Da Gama who is also from Volksrust and now the young man Mpela Maseko to head Mbombela United in its quest for premier league.

Former Mbombela United FC Captain Mfanimpela “Mpela Maseko silenced his critics by providing that he was not only a cheaper option for the Mbombela united coaching job but was also the right man for the job by winning the league and went over to claim victory during the VODACOM play-offs at Kimberley.

His team will be partaking in the Mvela League 2015/16 starting this August. The youngest Coach in the Mvela League is originally from Volksrust – Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality said in his interview “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog”.

He played for Young Pirate FC – SAB League and joined Winners FC – VODACOM league both teams from Volksrust. He furthered his football career by joining Abakar FC from Limpopo and when he returned to Mpumalanga his talent was not spotted by Witbank Spurs when he could not pass his trials.

It was then that he decided to return home and started his business to wash tekkies until a certain messiah from Volksrust who requested to remain anonymous opened doors for Mpela.

His deal was immediately sealed by Mbombela United in 2010. In that season he was promoted to captain the team until 2012/13 when he took reigns as assistant coach. Though Mpela might have failed to beat the 2012/13 unbeaten record set by his former coach, Lesego Matsomela, Mpela has done so much

better than his most of his predecessors.

Mpela was honoured

by Council of Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme Local municipality when he was invited in the ordinary sitting of Councilof 28 July 2015.

Mpela has joined Coach Owen Da Gama who was also from Volksrust.

In his concluding remarks, Mpela said, “my home town has talent both in football administration and players and it’s just unfortunate that football needs strong financial backup hence most of our local teams could not maintain their SAB and VODACOM status” Speaker of council remarked by saying “we recently honoured Miss SA and Miss World, who is also from Volksrust and all of them have put our small town on the map and we hope and believe that this is just a tip of an iceberg…there’s still more coming”

Vumbuka Trust Soccer Challenge 2015

have the recent results from the past weekend matches of the Vumbuka Trust Soccer Challenge 2015. It was the quarter finals of both the under 17 and Promotion League teams.

The semi finals will be played this Saturday 15 August 2015 and the finals of all divisions will be played on

Sunday 16 August 2015 from 10am.

Mkhondo Promotion League The promotion league will start on the 22nd August 2015. All football clubs interested to join the Mkhondo Promotion League 2015/2016 season should please contact the Mkhondo LFA General Secretary at 082 417 4055. The

closing date for club registration is set for 16 August 2015.

Mkhondo Development League The league is currently on a break due to the cup competition currently playing.

The league will resume on the 22nd August 2015.
