COSMIC ODYSSEY
In 2021, The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer was proud to be a partner in the inaugural Cosmic Odyssey Scholarship Program. Cosmic Odyssey was created to provide families that had been impacted by pediatric cancer the opportunity to attend space camp for a weekend during the summer.

The foundation worked alongside Yuri’s Night and the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to further the dream of one pediatric cancer survivor: Niko Blanks. Niko received services from the Austin Hatcher Foundation during his active treatment period and continued to advocate for the dreams of other childhood cancer families through his own passion for space and the conception of the Cosmic Odyssey Scholarship Program.
During the weekend, the families walked through an abbreviated space camp where they were able to participate in underwater virtual reality, got to travel through space in the facility’s planetarium, perform a mock space mission, and more. All families in attendance were given a customized space suit and swag from all partners, and each participant took part in a traditional space camp graduation ceremony.
