WITHDRAWAL POLICY:

Withdraw requests will be approved if the request is made five business days or more before a program’s start date unless another specified withdrawal deadline is stated in the program description. Some programs have specific withdrawal deadline dates based requirements or restrictions for the program. Withdrawal requests made less than five business days before the program start date are not guaranteed. For assistance, please call one of our recreation centers or email recreation@auroragov.org.

GENERAL HIKING INFORMATION

Take the day off and hike with us. We provide transportation and a guide. Trips depart from the lobby of the Aurora Center for Active Adults.

Regardless of weather in the metro area, hikers must be prepared for significant weather changes in the foothills and/or mountains.

Levels: 1= easy, 2 = moderate • Monday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• $48 ($38 Resident)

Please note that hiking trails/locations are subject to change due to a variety of reasons. The elevation gain and miles round trip are estimates and the actual distance could vary on each hike.

Return times are approximate and could be much earlier or later.

HIKE RATING 1=Easy (2 to 3.5 miles round trip and/or less than 350 feet elevation gain. Generally easy terrain with milder elevation gain) 2=Moderate (3.5 to 5 miles round trip and/or 350 to 1,000 feet elevation gain. Mix of easy and harder terrain-rocky or short steep sections.)

ACAA HIKING READINESS All hike participants must complete a Hiking Readiness Assessment when registering.

The ACAA strives to provide a positive hiking experience for active adults. Participants must be in good health and have the stamina, endurance and skills to safely hike in Colorado’s foothills and mountains.

HIKING EQUIPMENT Day backpack, footwear with good support and lugged soles for traction, snacks/lunch, at least one quart of water, clothing for time of year and varying weather, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

AQUA FITNESS

A refreshing twist on traditional aerobic workouts, providing a unique and effective way to stay active and healthy. Whether you’re looking to boost your fitness, enjoy a fun and social exercise experience or seek a low-impact option to fitness.

PADDLE BOARD YOGA

Take part in a fitness practice that takes traditional yoga poses onto the water. Participants will build strength, balance, flexibility and mindfulness. No previous paddleboard yoga experience is required.

All equipment is provided unless otherwise noted.

RIVER FITNESS

Come join us for a refreshing and invigorating journey down the river! River Fitness offers a unique and refreshing exercise experience by taking your workout into the lazy river at indoor pool recreation centers. This program combines the resistance of the river current with the benefits of a cardio-strengthening exercise routine.

Swim Level Guide PARENT AND TOT

Ages 6 months to 3 years Level 1: An introductory class for parents and very young children, Parent and Tot 1 uses songs, games and toys to help your baby gain confidence, learn basic swimming skills and develop safe habits around the water. Each child must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian.

One adult in the water per child. Swim diapers are required.

Level 2: Prepares very young swimmers to transition to independent swim lessons. To participate in this class, the child must be able to stand up independently. Emphasis on adjusting to swimming with an instructor rather than a parent, following directions and increasing autonomy in their swim skills. Each child must be accompanied in the pool by a parent or guardian.

Swim diapers are required.

GUPPY Ages 3 to 5 Level 1: Guppy 1 introduces young children to independent swimming lessons. Emphasis on working through separation anxiety, water adjustment, learning the rules of swim lessons and basic breath control. Parents will be asked to stay back from the pool edge. Swim diapers are required if a child is not potty trained.

Level 2: Teaches basic water survival and selfrescue skills to young children. Emphasis on independent movement through the water, independent floating and intermediate breath control. To participate in this class the child must be reliable at holding the wall during lessons, comfortable fully submerging underwater and comfortable laying in a back-float position (with instructor support). Swim diapers are required if your child is not potty trained.

Level 3: Lays technical foundation for basic stroke techniques. Emphasis on head/hip alignment and propulsive kick technique. To participate in this class, child must pass the exit skills assessment from Guppy 2 on the first day of class: Child jumps into deep water, resurfaces independently, swims a minimum of 5 yards and climbs out of the pool independently. If your child is not able to pass this swim test on day 1, they will not be able to continue at this level.

Level 4: Builds confidence and independence in basic stroke techniques for very strong young swimmers. Emphasis on head/hip alignment and simultaneous arm/leg action. This class is by instructor recommendation only. Children must pass Guppy 3 before enrolling in Guppy 4.

Aquatics ADULT Ages 14 and older Beginner: Introductory swim lessons for complete beginners. No previous experience required!

This class focuses on learning the basics: water adjustment, basic breath control, floating and kicking.

Intermediate: Builds on the skills learned in the beginner class to introduce whole swim strokes. Emphasis on kick technique and gaining confidence working in deep water. Participants must be able to tread water for one minute, be comfortable putting their face in the water and be able to swim one length (25 yards) of elementary backstroke independently.

Advanced: Teaches breaststroke and sidestroke in addition to building stamina in front crawl and backstroke. Emphasis is on building endurance and introducing turns, transitions and dives.

Participants must be able to jump into deep water, resurface independently and swim to the wall, tread water for two minutes continuously and swim one length (25 yards) with sustained good kick technique in flutter kick, whip kick and dolphin kick.

Stamina Training: Participants must be competent in the four competitive swim strokes.

This class focuses on building endurance and aerobic fitness for those with a strong swim background.

Hunter Safety HUNTER SAFETY Ages 8 and older Are you ready to go hunting in the great outdoors? You will be after you take this course.

Hunter Education cards will be awarded to students upon successful completion of the course which includes attending all class sessions, passing a written test and a live-fire exercise. No firearms or live ammunition will be allowed in the classroom. Firearms and ammunition will be provided by instructors for the live-fire exercise.

The city of Aurora offers preschool during the school year (August to May) for children ages 3 or 4-years-old (as of Oct. 1, 2026).

3-Year-Old Classes This program meets four days a week for 2.5 hours per day. This program is tuition-based only.

4-Year-Old Classes This program meets four days a week with half day (15 hours per week) and full day (30 hours per week) options.

FREE Preschool Hours Program

All 4-year olds (as of Oct 1, 2026) qualify for 15 hours of free preschool tuition through the Universal Preschool Program. AURORA YOUTH COMMISSION Ages 14 to 20 for youth members and ages 21 and older for adults The Aurora Youth Commission serves as a voice for youth in Aurora. The commission advises the city council, the city manager and the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Open Space regarding the interests of youth in Aurora.

In addition to providing advice to city leadership, the Aurora Youth Commission allows its members too: • Learn about Aurora government • Enhance your college application • Give back to your community • Learn to conduct a meeting • Gain valuable volunteer credit To be a part of the commission, you can apply online at auroragov.org/oyd.
