he year saw many changes for the better in Phi Gamma Delta. After the long awaited grand opening of their new house in the Winter of 1989, the Fijis spent their first full year back to normal.
The Fijis started the year off right in a cooperative effort with Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority by raising money for Muscular Dystrophy in the Balloon Derby. Phi Gamma Delta continued to maintain their high academic standards, completing its 28th straight year as one of the leaders among the All Men's GPA. The fraternity included many of the University's prominent leaders with members of the SGA, UPC. IFC. Plainsman, Spades, and a host of other clubs and honoraries on campus. Of these groups, Fijis held the positions of the SGA Treasurer, the UPC coordinator, the IFC President, and both the Plainsman President and the Plainsman Vice President of Athletics. Fiji also finished another year of athletic excellence. After winning the Fraternity All-Sports trophy for the second year in a row, they were again proving to be one of the toughest competitors.
In addition to their achievements, Phi Gamma Delta also boasted an extensive calendar of social events. Winter Formal was held this year in Sandestin, Florida during Winter Quarter, as well as the annual Burn the House Down party. In the Spring, they hosted Happy Birthday Hawaii and once again constructed their renouned Fiji Island. President Norman Godwin felt "the new fraternity house, the achievements, and the social activities are all a part of the fraternity. However, these are but outward reflections ofour main goal of unily and brotherhood which bonds us together in rich tradition." V
