force in the greek community
phi gamma delta at auburn was begun in 1961 by a small group of serious men. appreciably older than most students, they made it their conscious object to found a fraternity based on the traditional ideals of brotherhood and spirit tempered with the judgment born of their experience and to estab'lish excellence in all fields as their goal. they directed their efforts toward the mature and intelligent student, aiming to build a new image to replace the popular concept of fraternities as a negative influence in society.
the fraternity system is under attack everywhere and must evolve or eventually die. there is an urgent need for fraternities which build morality based on human dignity and tolerance, which develop social grace and congeniality, which teach judgment and responsibility, which place greai' emphasis on athletics and demand academic· excellence. these are concrete objectives, not sentiments or empty words. phi gamma delta strives to be such a positive force on the individuals who comprise it and the institution and community which host it.
