y upbringing had no crystal stairs, yet one constant remained true: “We are people who trust God, stand tall, and stick together.”

“Opportunity is like a bald head; it will slip away.” The words whispered from my grandmother’s lips.” Margaret Walker Originally from an urban community out of the Midwest and second eldest of five sisters. Early years for me as a teen molested by multiple people including a family member positioned me to spend the majority of my life hiding behind food.

All in an effort to appear more unattractive to every man hoping the abuse at home would stop. Weight gain, pregnancies, neglect, being a single parent, and a myriad of ups and downs with my career and personal relationships challenged me to re-examine my identity. Yes, indeed my life’s journey has been filled with many obstacles entrenched with twists and turns both personally and professionally. A decision to pursue systematic learning and complete my degree encased it’s own barriers.

Going back to school later in life as a black woman entering

a male dominated field of music engineering chronically under represented, pushed me to overcome in areas I’d never dreamed. I’ve written, collaborated, produced and released multiple music projects.

While on a quest to excavate true purpose I’ve learned to lean in, love, and affirm myself without permission from others. A huge part of my change began with peeling back the layers of generational curses, abuse, discrimination, poverty, weight, lack of selfacceptance and to my surprise self-loathing. The self discovery has been challenging and enlightening all at the same time.

I have always been optimistic and kept the belief that our words “do have power,” even though more often than not those were not the words playing between my ears.

Nevertheless, as the sorted details of my past unfolded so did the mission of my life become clearer. The relocation with my husband from my childhood town, release of 80 pounds, journaling, identified as a published author, corporate trainer, and becoming an advocate for myself birthed 21

three things: “The SelfFirst Movement,”, “iAffirm Impact Foundation a (non-profit 501c3)” and “Kennedy Media Entertainment.”

I say “Once you know your worth, you know your worth to the World”~Shawanna Kennedy These three endeavors have broadened my horizons and opened doors to keynote conferences, be featured in magazines, make radio guest appearances, and corporate train some of the largest companies in the world. The privilege of spreading a message of interpersonal confidence, hope, and strength to those that need it at the right time.

I have been to various cities across the United States impacting men, women, boys, and girls speaking and teaching from my book the “Power of Putting Yourself First.” (insert one of your corporate programs) When my WHY became BIGGER than my past everything in my entire life changed. for ME first. If it doesn’t fit with my life and make me happy I simply unapologetically don’t participate. No, it isn’t narcissistic nor is it selfish in fact it’s SelfFull. We must learn to tell ourselves the truth and keep our commitments to Self First.

My desire is that God be pleased with all I do, because He provided me this temple, my husband, my children and my family. Honestly, I know a large percentage of what we go through in life is always much BIGGER than what our feeble eyes can see. Generally, each of our experiences will benefit others when motives are pure.
