T

he North Augusta Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1951. The Chamber has been moving business forward in our community for more than

70 years. The North Augusta Chamber is a great place to educate, promote and grow your organization. We currently serve approximately 400 members, with five members who have been with the Chamber for more than 40 years.

North Augusta is an extraordinarily beautiful city. As the “front door to South Carolina” situated on the banks of the Savannah River, North Augusta provides instant access to nature’s treasures. It is understandable why our city attracts residents and visitors from around the world.

The North Augusta Chamber takes pride in being the voice of business in our community. We represent large, mid-sized and small businesses alike. We serve as an advocate for commerce and industry; facilitate interaction among business, government, education, labor, and the greater community; and actively create innovative opportunities for business to advance within local and global economies. Clearly, the Chamber is established as the primary resource for local and regional businesses.

Aiken County is vast covering 1,080 square miles and an estimated population of more than 168,179 (2017).

Thirteen miles east of downtown Augusta, the area’s largest employer is the Savannah River Site, a federal facility established in 1950. Today, the site strives to become a leader in environmental stewardship and innovative technology.

TRAILS AND PARKS North Augusta boasts a wide variety of highquality hiking trails, whether you’re looking to enjoy sights of the Savannah River or take a stroll through the area’s forests. The 13.5-mile Greeneway is easily accessible from both Hammond’s Ferry and Riverside Village.

BRICK POND PARK - This vast restored ecosystem has a plant trail, wildlifewatching & a stormwater treatment facility.

THE GREENE WAY The Greeneway, which used to be a railway on the Central of Georgia Railway, named after former North Augusta mayor Thomas Greene, attracts around 20,000 visitors per month to hike, bike, run and skate on

the area’s most dynamic trail. Next to Riverside Village you’ll find Brick Pond Park, a 40-acre wetland that invites visitors of all ages to enjoy its serene atmosphere, whether it’s relaxing under the park’s scenic pavilion or spending the day canoeing or fishing.

The Forks Area Trail System (FATS) is a major destination for mountain bikers around the country.

HAMMOND’S FERRY Hammond’s Ferry is a new, mixed-use neighborhood that joins the charming City of North Augusta to the timeless beauty of the Savannah river.

LIVING HISTORY PARK - Living history park recreating 18th-century life in the area & hosting festivals & concerts.

THE RIVER GOLF CLUB - This course’s rolling hills, wetlands, bent grass greens and dramatic bunkering make it a prime spot for a round of golf in North Augusta, right next to the banks of the Savannah River.

RIVERVIEW PARK - This facility has everything you could want in a workout facility, including two regulation-size racquetball courts, cardiovascular workout equipment, locker rooms and showers, a sixth-mile track, concessions and activity rooms. Its four high school regulation-sized basketball courts become the center of the city’s main attraction when the Nike Peach Jam, the nations premiere tournament for the

Nike Elite Youth Basketball League, comes to town every summer.

SRP PARK - SRP Park is a baseball park in North Augusta, South Carolina, which is part of the Augusta, Georgia metropolitan area.

It is the home of the Augusta GreenJackets, a Minor League Baseball team playing in the South Atlantic League.

s North Augusta’s Riverside Village has come to life in recent years with the addition of a new baseball park, high-end apartment complexes and a riv-

erfront restaurant, an old-fashioned, charming downtown North Augusta has remained largely unchanged. On one hand, that’s how much of the North Augusta community prefers it. It’s a simple, easygoing community that treats each other like family. But it’s also a community that has suddenly transformed into an entertainment hub while also offering some of the best trails, views and food in the area.

Visitors and residents alike can take a stroll back to Colonial times with a visit to the Living History Park. The site of an abandoned water works the land, located in the residential heart of North Augusta, had become a swampy dumping ground by the city. A small group of residents worked together to form a non-profit organization called Olde Towne Preservation Association. The area was designed to give visitors a firsthand experience of Colonial life. Features of the park include a mercantile, guardhouse, barn, grist mill, smokehouse and more. Today, the park has more than 20,000 visitors a year. The park is also used for private events.

leven miles from downtown North Augusta lies the industrial hub for Aiken County. In 1845, William Gregg brought the first industry to this area when he built the South’s first large-scale cotton mill. Today, the Bridgestone/Firestone

Tire and Rubber Plant, Carolina Cover Tech and Central States Manufacturing are just a few of the businesses located in this area.

BEECH ISLAND FOUNDED IN 1730, BEECH ISLAND IS SAID TO BE ONE OF THE OLDEST TOWNS IN THE PALMETTO STATE.

nown as home to the oldest inland settlement in the country, Beech Island might just be the most historical place in Aiken County. According to discoveraikencounty.com, in 1730, the Royal Governor of South Carolina ordered 11 townships to be laid out in South Carolina. One of which was Beech Island.

According to historians, the name was initially Beech Highland, as Fort Moore was built on a bluff, and that the first letter was later dropped; others claim the name refers to the town being surrounded by three creeks and the Savannah River. Now a destination for history buffs, Beech Island, with its old churches and majestic Redcliffe Plantation, attracts visitors to its storied town.

Today, Beech Island has become home to several automotive dealerships. The newest dealership to open is Terry Lambert Hyundai. In 2023, Stokes Hodges will open a new Kia dealership, making it the fourth on the Aiken-Augusta Highway.

Taxes The general sales tax in South Carolina is seven (7) percent. Both Aiken and Edgefield counties levy an additional once-cent local option sales tax.
