The Movement Magazine REMIXED TEAM was on site to cover the entire 2016 Trumpet Awards and we are dedicating this entire issue to this prestigious award show.
Founder/Editor in Chief Audrey Egypt Young and COO Sharon Sykes of ! The Movement Magazine REMIXED 2016 opened its arms WIDE and welcomes the Movement Magazine Remix team to provide mass media coverage for the pre show as well as The 2016 Trumpet Awards Red Carpet. It’s been an amazing journey. We’ve grown our brand from a dream to an idea and now it’s in full growth mode. We created a check list as always as every awards show has a different feel and a different flow. However this opportunity came with a different set of challenges. There has never been a time where we thought an award show was going to be cancelled due to inclement weather. We kept a close eye on the weather channel and heard several times how the mayor of Atlanta had completely shut down ALL activities for the weekend. When we looked outside our hotel room the 3 of us cracked up laughing as there was ONLY a light dusting of snow, but Atlanta had practically shut down ALL activities. Our concerns grew by the minute as we could see this opportunity slowly slipping away. Egypt (Founder, Editor and Chief) checked the email from Danny Astoria and everything was a GO! Needless to say we were excited. We LOVE what we do. Red Carpet Check in was at 12:00 noon. It was game time…time to get our faces beat and prepare our minds to meet new colleagues and expand the brand. It was 20 degrees and for Atlanta that was VERY cold. When we arrived we learned that the red carpet experience would still be outside as they were not moving it indoors. As professionals we made the necessary adjustments and handled business. Much love and respect to the beautiful Xernona Clayton for being a gracious host and to all the honorees we had the privilege of speaking with, we humbly say thank you. From Television Anchor Ed Gordon, to the comedic genius in the person of Mr. George Wallace, our fellow colleague, Mc Lyte, Salt n Peppa, Spinderella and the incomparable Raheem DeVaugn and to the Women of Congress who were honored, thank you for awesome dialog and your contribution and concerns to healing the love language within our culture. R&B general Joe Thomas you tipped it off by showing love prior to us leaving for our next event. The 2016 Trumpet Awards was a stellar experience. Mc Lyte: There’s so many mentoring programs out here and there’s so many programs addressing different ways to bring relationships whether its familiar or corporate structure. Actually that’s something I’ve been really studying lately, I’ve been reading a lot of books. The issue is communication. I think there are a lot of misunderstandings; men need to understand women and women need to understand men. Ladies are asking the questions to girls, but we should be asking the guys. It’s a lot I could say about that but I just feel like communication and respect is the key.! Sharon: Thank you so much.!

Sharon: Thank you for being here today. We’re looking to heal our culture with our publication. As you know other cultures teach their young boys how to be leaders, young girls how to run families. Where do you see our love language going as a culture?! TC Carson: Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow, Our love language… wow, that’s a good question. I think if we go back to respecting who we are, if we go back to taking care of us as a people we’ll see a difference. I think that is what’s missing right now in our community and our culture. We have been taught not to service US, not to take care of us and so we have a culture of people that don’t care about us. We don’t care about who we are. Once we get back to caring about who we are and get back to servicing us and taking care of us I think we’ll be a better people.! Sharon: Thank you.! TC Carson: Whew that was a question wasn’t it?!

Charmin: As a culture, I think that when we start to love ourselves then we’re going to be alright, we have more and more examples like the Michelle Obama’s and so many others. Quite frankly I’m working to be an example myself, for women, for children. In particular one of the things that really matters is this human trafficking thing and the fact that Atlanta is number one and it’s happening right under our noses. I really want to bring an awareness to that. As a whole it has to come back to the village. Yeah, I’m down for all the causes.! Sharon: Thank you for stopping by.!

Sharon: We’re using our publication to heal the love language, where do you see our love language going as a culture?! Ed:! Well I think that we have to be honest about where we are. There are a number of issues within our communities that we’re going to have to face head on. There are a number of outside forces that are combating what we try to do in a positive way and so we have to decide that we’re going to put on our adult pants and move forward. An event like this, an evening like this really speaks to the people who are positive, who are out there moving forward. They’re not often times saluted for their services, sometime they’re even pushed aside. Much of the media pretends they don’t exist and they do. I’m so very happy to be able to salute them tonight.! That’s why it’s good to create ideas and movements. We don’t need nobody to come and save our people, we can be that foot print within the community. As an artist we definitely have to take more responsibility with what we talk about on these records and understand that it’s a direct impact and influence on our youth. Sharon: Thank you so much. Dr. Bobby Jones Sharon: Where do you see the love language going within our culture? Dr. Jones: Well I think we need to concentrate on our families more. Looks like some of the training is not the way it use to be and some of the kids no longer act the way they should. I’m very focused on that. I’m an educator first. Sharon: I am too. Dr. Jones: Oh great!. My degrees were in curriculum development within schools, which includes how we work with the family. In our country is seemingly trying to drift to the positive side of it and I think we need to really focus on that. Sharon: Thank you so much. I really appreciate you. I’m on a mission. I’ve written a book about teaching our young women to be nurturers again. It’s okay to be fly, but it’s even better to be a nurturer. Dr. Jones: You said it!

Dr. Jamal Bryant:! Sharon: As you know, other cultures train their little girls to be wives and mothers and their young boys to be hunters, coverings and husbands. Where do you see our love language going?! Jamal: I think the key is the missing element of quality time. We’re no longer having round table discussions and we’re no longer having family conversations, not just in restaurants but at home. I’d like to see the cultivation of quality time beyond gifts. We’ve mastered that. I’m talking about the quality time to understand what’s going on in the minds of our children, in the minds of our relatives. We’ve become so disconnected from the people we live with. So I think in order for that healing to happen, we’ve got to start spending real time. Just because I’m with you, doesn’t mean I’m connected to you.! Sharon: Thank you so much, we love you.!

Palmer Williams, Jr. Sharon: Where do see the history of our families? Palmer: Actually, growing I think that we are finally figuring it out. If we can get that core family values back together. We always say everyone else is at fault regarding things we need to take care of at home. Once we make sure we don’t have an implosion and make sure we take care of home, the whole world would want to be like us again. We’ve got to definitely get it together and support our President Obama and what he stands for. Where do you see our love language going? What are your thoughts about that? Pastor Judah: Well first of all I love your name, The Movement. The Movement, that’s what time it is. For me, relationships are all about love and trust. I believe if we can build trust with each other, whether we’re black, white, gay, straight or republican, democrat, we can build a bridge between people when we do that it’s going to be effective for the love of Christ. Sharon: My book is entitled, “EMASCULATION”..The Enemy To The Soul Of A Woman. Where do you see our families going? Our African American culture is in trouble. As you know in other cultures they raise their daughters to be effective in families, they raise their sons to be men, hunters. Where do see the love language within our culture? Where do you see it going? Helen: WOW! That’s oh SO good. We’re still dealing with so many generational curses and trying to find ourselves and so many of us are still battling the “Willie Lynch” syndrome, especially in Georgia as well as the entire east coast. We were taught hundreds of years ago to hate one another and it’s kind of hard to receive and find the identity of a daughter because you get that from your father. You get your identity from your natural father and you get your covering from your father. The first thing we’ve got to deal with is the absent father. We can start talking about how to restore and build courage in little girls who will eventually become women. Yeah, you have abandonment, rejection and all of this that is going on in our community and nobody wants to deal with that. We’ve got to go back and look at the father. How can we get the father back involved? The covering, the identity, the heart beat of the home, some people say it’s the mother but I disagree. The family is so strong when the father is there. If you start to look at surveys of all the little girls that become women who have that covering, there’s a HUGE difference in how they turn out. Sharon: You can see it. Thank you so much Helen: I’m looking forward to getting your book, and get mines too. The name of my book is Believe In You One More Time. I co-authored with Lisa Nichols ,it was a New York Times Best Seller and I expect this one to do the same thing. This is my first solo project. God is good. I’m excited.

The Legendary George Wallace Sharon: We’re using our publication to heal our culture. What can we do to heal our love language? What can we do to make it better, how can we heal it? George: We can communicate. I’m in the laughter business and laughter heals everything. Its healing. One thing about laughter, its medicine for the world, it’s free medicine. I encourage people to over dose on laughter and keep it in the reach of children. If you start laughing for more than four hours, call your doctor and give the doctor the same prescription. It’s great to give back. Every person on earth is put here to give back. (He lifts up the magazine and says, “and that’s what The Movement is all about, giving back and loving people.’ This is what The Trumpet Awards is all about too, honoring people and giving back. It feels so good to do that with our community. That is what makes this award show so great. The Trumpet Awards is the best awards show ever. Sharon: Thank you for being the shoulders that so many comedians stand on and have stood on over the years. You’re one of our pioneers and we love you. George: This is why I love Black History. Black History is necessary like Red Foxx and Richard Pryor and Jackie Moms Mable. That’s why I’m not worried and we’re not going to get rid of BET and we’re not going to get rid of Black History Month and we’re damn sure not going to get rid of The Trumpet Awards. It’s important to know where you come from. A lot of people have done a lot of work so you could be where you are, I didn’t call nobodies name. God bless you. ( He walked away in laughter.) We knew exactly what he meant.

The Movement Magazine REMIXED gives honor and respect to one of the greatest Icons in music history, the beautiful Natalie Cole left a mark in our minds that will never be removed. Her departure from earth is a one two punch that hits in every part of our hearts. Cole showed us what grace and elegance looked like on stage. Her vocals were soothing to the soul. Her soft demeanor was calming to the spirit and she always wore a smile on her face, even through adversity.

Earth, Wind and Fire sold over 90 Million records worldwide. His departure from earth will leave an impact in every part of our hearts. Mr. Maurice White a Chicago native brought us an eclectic blend of music. Funk, R&B, Rock, Blues, Classical, all blended perfectly together to present to us what he dubbed “Message Music.” God gave us a tremendous amount of himself within this gifted soul. I believe it’s safe to say that they will never be another Maurice White. R I P

THE KANGOL KID AND TAJIRI THE RICHTWIN STORY
The media seldom recognizes any positives in the Hip-Hop culture and may also choose to ignore the romance of these two Hip-Hop legends. Ironically, before Kangol Kid and Tajiri the RichTwin became romantically involved, they individually commanded the attention of the streets of New York City's borough of Brooklyn and Staten Island in the mid 80's and early 90's. Hip-Hop Pioneer Kangol Kid (born Shaun Fequiere) is 49 years old and is the lead member of the Brooklyn based rap group UTFO, made popular by their phenomenal Top 10 hit single "Roxanne, Roxanne". Kangol later became an award-winning songwriter, music producer, philanthropist and public speaker. Tajiri Swindell (known to her friends as "Jiri") is 41 years old and is one-half of the legendary Staten Island dance-duo "Double Meant Twins". She and her twin sister's talents and popularity grew as they performed alongside then local legends "Wu-Tang Clan" and later official dancers for "Shyhiem the Rugged Child". Today, Jiri is a single-mom with a 20 year career in law -enforcement. Surprisingly, the two met 25 years ago while Kangol was developing a new rap act and later auditioned/hired Jiri and her twin sister as the act's dancers. Unfortunately, it was a very short run as the group sadly disbanded. All contacts between Kangol and Tajiri were lost for over two decades. It was during this time, in the wake of a failed marriage, Kangol found himself abandoned, left with three sons to raise on his own. Coincidently, years later Tajiri was left to raise her three daughters on her own as her marriage suffered the same fate. Needless to say, to protect their children, both Kangol and Jiri were gun-shy of further romantic entanglements. The two were reunited a year and a half ago during an unexpected encounter at the birthday celebration of fellow Staten Island celebrity friend Stevie D of legendary R&B group "Force MD’s“. This chance reunion quickly transformed into a relationship admired and envied by all who witnessed their glow. Today, Kangol and Tajiri are in love and are Hip-Hop’s role model couple. Having moved on from a past that at on time had left them shattered, the two families have become one, their beautiful daughter arrived in August, 2015. As this child is truly a direct heir to the Hip-Hop throne, this joyous birth has been named, “A Birth of FRESH HEIR”. Word has traveled fast as Kangol and Tajiri have appeared on NY’s 107.5 WBLS’ Quiet Storm Radio Show with Lenny Green, Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels, photo shoot with Adult Entertainment Legend-turnedPhotographer Heather Hunter and events sponsored by Britax, I-Angel, Enfamil, Minkee Blue, AZAD Watches, No.1 Draft Pick, Jack Daniel’s…and more. Next year as Kangol Kid turns 50 years old, his iconic Kangol hat will be inducted in Smithsonian Museum and plans are set to declare August 10th as “National Kangol Day”. Princess Amancia Skylar (“Cia Sky”) Fequiere was christened on Saturday, January 16. 2016 on what is now being referred to as “The Holiest Day In Hip-Hop”. Minister Kurtis Blow Walker brought me to spiritual tears with his sermon while Doreen Broadnax aka MC Sparky D and Rev. Dr. MC Debbie D Hooper completed the service with prayers and spiritual announcements.
