BTG Eddisons delivers first national four-day event combining livestream and in-room auction showcase.

BTG Eddisons Property Auctions has completed its first-ever four-day national auction event, generating £25m in property sales across more than 180 lots. The programme combined two days of multi-lot auctions with a further two days of livestreamed sales, reflecting the continued shift towards digital-first auction formats.

The opening day of the livestreamed schedule also marked a notable return to Bramall Lane for an in-room auction showcase for the first time since February 2020, bringing a hybrid approach back into a live setting for the first time in several years.

“

Bringing together the thrill of the traditional in-room auction with the latest in digital-first live stream auction technology, the event was a brilliant reminder of where the value of human interaction and relationships meet with latest technologies to deliver the best service and outcome for buyers and sellers.

Hybrid Auction in Action

The one-off showcase event offered attendees a live view of how digital-first property auctions have evolved, while also creating space for networking across the wider regional and national real estate community.

Bidders were able to participate in-room at Bramall Lane alongside a wider national audience bidding online, by proxy and via telephone. The opening day attracted 1,200 viewers, with bidding conducted by

Auctioneer and Director, Adrian Little and Lucy Crapper, Senior Auctioneer Surveyor at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, alongside Partner and Auctioneer, Andrew Parker.

Essential Information Group data places BTG Eddisons as the second largest auction provider in the UK by volume of lots sold, underlining the scale of its national platform within the wider market.

Bramall Lane Brings Auctions Back In-Room

Andy Thompson, National Director of Auctions at BTG Eddisons, said:

“Our first four-day national auction has been a great success and it was made even better with our return to Bramall Lane for an in-person auction showcase. Bringing together the thrill of the traditional in-room auction with the latest in digital-first live stream auction technology, the event was a brilliant reminder of where the value of human interaction and relationships meet with latest technologies to deliver the best service and outcome for buyers and sellers.

“It is clear that as livestream and online auctions have been rolled out more widely since the pandemic, the popularity of auctions has grown as more buyers and sellers favour

“Auctions are a helpful strategic tool for quickly unlocking value, for individuals or businesses and, along with the teams across BTG’s wider services, we are able to support clients with unlocking value and driving growth as they navigate challenging conditions.

”the speed, certainty and transparency of the auction. While in-room auctions are likely not to return to the fore, this showcase event was a helpful way to show the market how far the industry has developed and the power of livestreamed auctions as a tool to unlock value.

“Auctions are a helpful strategic tool for quickly unlocking value, for individuals or businesses and, along with the teams across BTG’s wider services, we are able to support clients with unlocking value and driving growth as they navigate challenging conditions. To bring this expertise and insight to real estate professionals and businesses across the UK, we are looking forward to building on the success of this event and our previous showcase in Manchester with more in-person auction showcases, including a London event later in the year.”

About BTG Eddisons

Strong Sales Across Four-Day Format

Lucy Crapper, recently appointed Senior Auctioneer Surveyor at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, said:

“Our in-room auction showcase was a fantastic opportunity for our Sheffield team and national auctions team alike to return to our old stomping ground at Bramall Lane after a number of years away. It was brilliant to be able to show local real estate and business community how we have developed and optimised our livestream auction offering and what it can bring to buyers and sellers in Sheffield and beyond. We are also pleased to have achieved significant sales volume and value across our first four-day national event and look forward to building on this success for our next national auctions over the coming months.”

Market Evolution on Display

Adrian Little, Auctioneer and Director at BTG Eddisons Sheffield, said:

“The value of being in person and in the room in an auction has certainly not been forgotten and it was fantastic to see faces old and new to network, discuss and learn from each other once again. It was great to show the fantastic real estate opportunities that Sheffield has to offer alongside other lots from across the nation and we are pleased with the results achieved thanks to the team’s hard work. While this is a one off in-room auction event, what it has successfully highlighted is how we have evolved auctions and balanced the human-centric and digital elements to meet the needs of the growing market as its popularity rises. We look forward to putting on similar in person events to complement our digital auctions and continue our support for local businesses and communities.”

From the Field to the Final Statement: One Record, Every Step.

From a photo in the lane to the seller’s payout, one record, entered once.

The job doesn’t happen at a desk any more. Lots come in standing in a field, parked in the yard, or loaded on the van and the auctioneer who can capture them there and then, rather than scribbling notes to type up later, is the one who gets the sale live first.

Take the snap, raise the contract and get it signed by the vendor on the spot, then drop the lot straight into a sale, whether that’s a rolling timed auction or a full live in-event sale, all before you’ve left the yard. Every hour between a vendor saying yes and the lot appearing online is an hour a rival could win the instruction instead. That mobile-first reality is where BidHarvest® starts, and it shapes everything that follows.

Capture

anywhere, once

Create inventory from a mobile device wherever the kit is: photograph it, describe it and pin precise location data with what3words so every lot can be found, viewed and collected from the exact spot. Address lookup speeds vendor and buyer entry, while DVLA and HPI integrations let you pull and verify vehicle data and finance status at the point of capture; no re-entry, no surprises after the hammer falls.

One record, every discipline

That same item then flows through every stage of the sale on a single record. Contract, consignment, lotting, pre-sale notification, invoicing, collection notes, post-sale statements and seller payouts are all driven from it; the work most systems force you to stitch together by hand, held as one

continuous thread. Nothing is re-entered, nothing falls between two disconnected tools and every document carries the same trusted data from the moment of capture. And if you need to re-enter unsold lots, you just modify the original record and relist, with a full auction history

One Record, Every Step:

1. Valuation/Contract. Agree terms with the vendor.

2. Consign. Items booked in.

3. Lot. Catalogued and lotted for sale using our visual lotting tools.

4. Pre-salenotification. Vendors kept updated on progress.

5. Invoice. Raised the moment the gavel falls or in batches.

6. Collectionnote. Generated for buyer pickup — with what3words location.

7. Post-salestatement. Issued to the seller without rekeying.

8. Sellerpayout. Reconciled and settled from the same record.

Everything in My Account

Sellers and buyers each get a self-service area holding all their own documents, contracts, invoices, collection notes, statements and payouts, mirrored in the admin back office too. That means less inbound admin for your team and full transparency for your clients, with nobody chasing a

paperwork copy. Because every step lives on one record, you also get genuine lifetime-value tracking on vendors and bidders, plus rich performance data across auctions, vendors and buyers.

Sell it everywhere

Run timed and live sales with integrated AV from the van, the lane or a field; wherever the sale needs to be. Secure payment gateways take deposits and settlements and reconcile them automatically. And when a sale warrants reaching beyond your own private-label audience, BidHarvest® plays nicely with platforms such as BidSpotter, putting your lots in front of a far wider pool of buyers in sync with your private label site.

“Capture it once in the field, and let one record carry it all the way to the seller’s payout.”

See it on your own sale

The fastest way to judge the fit is to see it walked through against your own auction format. BidHarvest’s team will show you mobile capture, the full lifecycle and the integrations in action and answer the practical questions before you decide anything.

BidHarvest® delivers a unified auction platform designed to simplify operations and give auctioneers complete control from intake to invoice.

• Data migration services from legacy systems to reduce disruption.

• Full consignment toolset with digital contracts and audit-friendly workflows.

• Xero integration for smoother accounting and reconciliation.

• Optional full web front end and private-label live and timed bidding.

Book a Guided Demo

The key checks around vehicle condition, history and total cost that help buyers make more confident.

Car auctions continue to play a central role in the used vehicle market, bringing together private buyers, dealers and businesses in a competitive, fast-moving environment. With the growth of online bidding, access to stock has widened significantly and auctions are now a mainstream route for sourcing everything from everyday run-arounds to specialist vehicles.

As the market has evolved, so too has buyer behaviour. The focus is no longer simply on securing the lowest price, but on understanding condition, history and the full cost of ownership before a bid is placed.

Understanding the Market Before You Bid

Every vehicle at auction carries its own background, whether it has come from fleet rotation, part exchange, lease disposal or private entry. Understanding that context helps shape how a lot should be assessed from the outset.

Research remains a key starting point. Looking at typical values for the make, model and age range provides a useful benchmark when reviewing catalogues, particularly when comparing similar stock across multiple sales. Auction listings offer a snapshot, but market awareness is what turns that information into usable insight.

It is also important to understand how each sale is structured. Buyer premiums, VAT where applicable, payment terms and collection arrangements all contribute to the final cost and these can vary between auctions.

Using the Information Available

Modern catalogues are far more detailed than in previous years, often including photographs, condition reports, MOT data and service history where available. This level of transparency gives buyers a strong starting point, but it should not be viewed as the complete picture.

Supporting checks such as MOT history, mileage progression and any recorded advisories can help highlight inconsistencies or patterns over time. Where disclosed, finance history or previous insurance involvement may also influence how a vehicle is assessed.

Physical inspection, where possible, still adds value. Bodywork condition, tyre wear, interior use and signs of repair often become clearer in person. For online only auctions, the ability to carefully review imagery and reports becomes essential to building confidence in the listing.

Understanding the True Cost

The hammer price is only one part of the overall spend. Buyer’s fees, VAT where applicable, transport, servicing and any necessary repairs all contribute to the final cost once the vehicle is taken away.

This is where many first-time buyers adjust their expectations. A vehicle that appears competitively priced can change significantly once additional costs are included. For that reason, experienced buyers tend to work with a total budget rather than a bid-focused figure, allowing all associated costs to be considered in advance.

Most auction vehicles are sold as seen, placing responsibility on the buyer to assess value and condition before bidding. This makes preparation less about caution and more about clarity.

As online auctions continue to grow, the most successful buyers are not necessarily those chasing the lowest prices, but those who understand exactly what they are buying and the likely cost of putting it into use.

Auction News continues to connect buyers with vehicle auctions across the UK, bringing together upcoming sales featuring cars, vans, commercial vehicles and specialist assets. With a clearer understanding of the market and how to approach it, buyers are better placed to identify opportunities and bid with confidence.
