BTG Eddisons Property Auctions has appointed experienced auctioneer Lucy Crapper to its national team.
Further strengthening the firm’s growing auction operation following the recent unification of auction businesses Pugh, Mark Jenkinson, SDL Property Auctions and Network Auctions.
The combined business now operates as the UK’s second largest property auctioneer by volume, offering around 400 property and land lots for sale each month across a range of auction formats.
Lucy joins the business with almost two decades of auction experience, primarily across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. Prior to joining BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, she was Associate Director, Auctioneer and Head of Northern Auctions at Blundells and Countrywide UK, where she established and expanded the company’s auction division while overseeing auction sales activity across the north of England.
In her new role, Lucy will conduct auctions across the company’s full range of sale formats, overseeing bidding on residential and commercial properties, land and development opportunities nationwide.
Her introduction to the auction industry began at an early age, accompanying her father, the late Patrick Crapper, a respected Sheffield Auctioneer and Surveyor, on weekend visits to auction properties. The experience provided an early insight into the pace and atmosphere of the auction world and helped shape her long-standing career within the sector.
“I owe much of my passion for auctions and my rostrum skills to my father, who taught me not just the mechanics of auctions, but how everything really works in the auction room” said Lucy. “There are still relatively few female property auctioneers in the UK, so I’m very proud to be one of them.”
Lucy first stepped onto the rostrum in 2007 and has since built extensive experience across the sector, handling the sale of residential homes, commercial assets and a

number of more unusual properties, including a wartime fort in the Humber estuary.
She added: “Being an auctioneer is a very traditional role and in many ways the fundamentals haven’t changed for hundreds of years. Even when Covid forced a move online, the core appeal of auctions remained the same: property transactions completed quickly, transparently and with certainty.
“The shift to digital formats has made auctions accessible to a wider audience, opening up the market to more buyers and sellers.”
Alongside her professional work within the property sector, Lucy also supports charitable fundraising efforts as an ambassador for Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, regularly conducting fundraising auctions on behalf of the organisation.
She said: “I already know many of the BTG Eddisons Property Auctions Sheffield team well and I’m really looking forward to joining at such an exciting stage in the firm’s growth.”
Andrew Parker, Auctioneer and Partner at BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: “Lucy brings exceptional experience to the business, as an accomplished auctioneer on the rostrum as well as having successfully built and led auction operations at a senior level. We are really pleased to welcome her to the team as we continue to expand our auctions nationwide.”

Young cricketers at Leeds Modernians Cricket Club are set to benefit from improved facilities and upgraded training equipment following sponsorship support from BPI, helping the volunteer-run club continue supporting the next generation of players within the local community.
The funding has been used to improve the club’s practice nets, alongside the purchase of new cricket balls and additional training equipment for its thriving junior section, which supports players from Under 9s through to Under 18s. The investment is expected to enhance training sessions and provide better facilities for young players developing through the club’s ranks.
Based in North Leeds, Leeds Modernians Cricket Club provides opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the game, running three adult weekend sides alongside a midweek team. The club has long played an active role within the local community, offering a welcoming environment for players, families and supporters alike. Like many grassroots sports clubs across the UK, it relies heavily on volunteers, local fundraising efforts and the dedication of families and players to help cover ongoing costs and maintain facilities.
The sponsorship came about through Andy Stewart, a colleague at BPI who also volunteers at the club, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the interests, charities and community initiatives connected to its employees.

Andy Stewart said: “For a volunteer-run club like ours, support like this really does mean a lot. Cricket clubs are about much more than sport, they give young people confidence, friendships and somewhere to belong. These improvements will make a real difference to how our junior teams train and develop, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support.”
BPI, which works with businesses to responsibly sell and recycle unwanted equipment and assets, regularly supports local causes and community projects as part of its wider approach to community engagement and sustainability.
David Boulton, Managing Director of BPI, said: “We know how important clubs like Leeds Modernians are to local communities. They rely on volunteers giving up their time to create opportunities for young people, and we’re proud to support something that means so much to one of our colleagues. By backing Andy’s involvement with the club, we hope to help more young players enjoy cricket and develop both on and off the pitch.”

Car auctions offer a fast and often rewarding route into your next vehicle.
Buyers can access a wide mix of stock, from reliable daily cars to nearly new models, often at prices that undercut the retail market.
Do Your Research
Auction houses do not all operate the same way. Before you begin, take time to understand how the process works.
Is the sale live in person, timed online or a hybrid format? What support is available during bidding? Most importantly, read the terms and conditions in full. Pay attention to how vehicles are described, what fees apply and what is expected once you win a lot. A clear understanding at this stage removes uncertainty later.
Check the Vehicle’s History
A listing may cover the basics, but it rarely tells the whole story.
Running a full history check using the registration number is essential. This will highlight outstanding finance, any write off record, mileage inconsistencies and MOT history. These details help build a more complete picture and reduce the risk of unexpected issues after purchase.
Inspect Carefully
If a viewing day is available, make full use of it. Look closely at bodywork for dents, rust or paint inconsistencies. Check tyre condition, interior wear and signs of neglect under the bonnet such as leaks or heavy wear. Small details often point to how a vehicle has been treated over time.
For online auctions, the focus shifts to detail. Study every image and read every line of the description. If something is unclear, seek clarification. Assumptions can be costly.
Understand the Costs and Set Your Budget
The hammer price is only part of the total, with buyer

premiums and possible VAT added. Be clear on all costs, payment terms and collection deadlines.
Set a firm budget before bidding begins and include fees, insurance, repairs and road tax. Stick to your limit, as discipline is key to ensuring a good deal stays a good deal.
Know Your Rights
Auction vehicles are usually sold as seen. This changes the level of protection available.
Consumer rights are more limited than in a retail setting, although known faults must still be disclosed. Reading the listing carefully is essential, as is understanding exactly what you are agreeing to when the hammer falls.
Find Your Next Auction
With the right approach, car auctions remain one of the most effective ways to secure value in the market. Preparation, attention to detail and discipline separate confident buyers from costly mistakes.
Auction News helps you find vehicle auctions across the UK, both online and on site, so you can find, compare and bid with confidence.
