The auctioneer’s October programme combined a landmark London showcase with online and partner auctions, generating £27m in sales and taking its 2026 total to £250m. BTG Eddisons Property Auctions has generated £27m in sales through its October national auctions, including an industry-first in-room auction held at the National Landlord Investment Show (NLIS) in London. The live event, hosted at Old Billingsgate, gave sellers the opportunity to present their properties to an audience of active landlords, investors and developers, alongside a nationwide pool of online bidders. The auction formed the first day of a two-day live stream event, with the second day taking place at the auctioneer’s Nottingham studio. The hybrid format combined traditional in-room bidding with online, telephone and proxy options, with both days streamed to a national audience. Five auctioneers from the BTG Eddisons Property Auctions team took to the rostrum across the event: Andrew Parker, Edward Feather, Richard Worrall, Graham Penny and Lucy Crapper. The October programme also included a separate twoday online auction with a 24-hour bidding window, alongside two white-label partner agent auctions. In total, 379 lots were offered throughout the month, attracting more than 3,000 bids. The London showcase provided an opportunity to demonstrate how property auctions can connect sellers with a broad audience of potential buyers, while offering investors and developers opportunities to acquire assets. The latest results also contribute to a strong year for the business, which has now generated £250m in sales during 2026.

Andrew Parker, Managing Director of BTG Eddisons Property Auctions, said: "It has been fantastic to round off another successful national auction delivering brilliant results for our clients and great opportunities for the buyers, which was enhanced even further by another successful in-room showcase at the National Landlord Investment Show. The show at the Old Billingsgate was an apt venue to demonstrate how the auctions delivered by our hard-working team of experts provide opportunities for investors, landlords, developers and property professionals, alongside the latest advancements in live stream and online auctions. "Bringing together the thrill of the traditional in-room auction with the latest in digital-first live stream auction technology, the event showed how human interaction and relationships combine with tech innovation to deliver the best service and outcome for buyers and sellers needing the speed, certainty and transparency that has made the route grow in popularity, as well as a wider national reach. “Auctions are a helpful strategic tool for quickly unlocking value, for individuals or businesses, and along with the teams across BTG’s range of expert services, we are able to support clients their growth goals as they navigate challenging conditions. We look forward to continuing to showcase how we are innovating and leading in the world of auctions as more buyers and sellers choose this route."

The contents of a former 127-year-old boarding school in Cumbria are being offered for sale through an online auction organised by BPI Asset Advisory. The sale features the contents of Lime House School in Dalston, which closed ahead of the 2026 to 2027 academic year after its leaders concluded that pupil numbers were too low to support normal operations. Established in 1899, the independent school educated children from primary age through to sixth form and built a reputation for strong academic results over more than a century. Acting on behalf of the Liquidators of Genwise Limited, BPI Asset Advisory is selling the assets, with bidding closing on Monday 9th November 2026. The lots are located in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

“

Carter’s landscapes have a loyal following, particularly in the North of England, and it’s not often that works like these come up through a sale of this kind.” Andrew Cromack Director at BPI Asset Advisory

”

Among the highlights are two signed oil paintings by Frank T Carter, titled A View in the Lake and Autumn by the River. Both are oil on canvas, presented in ornate gilt frames and expected to attract interest from collectors in the North West and North East. Carter (1853–1934), who was born in Warkworth, Northumberland, was known for his landscape paintings depicting the Lake District and northern countryside. His work is held in several public galleries, including the Laing, the Shipley and South Shields. Andrew Cromack, Director at BPI Asset Advisory, commented: “The two Frank T Carter paintings are a real highlight of this sale. Carter’s landscapes have a

loyal following, particularly in the North of England, and it’s not often that works like these come up through a sale of this kind. We’d encourage collectors and art lovers to take a look before bidding closes, as we expect plenty of interest.” Beyond the artwork, the auction offers a varied selection of vehicles, grounds maintenance machinery, catering equipment and general school contents. Vehicles include a 2017 Ford Tourneo Custom minibus and two Ford Transit minibuses, alongside a 2022 Kubota GR2120 ride-on tractor, Kubota B2350D compact tractor, Wessex finishing mower and a selection of Wessex and Ifor Williams trailers. Other lots include commercial stacked washer dryers, Moffat Blue Seal gas range ovens, a Giorik combination oven, musical instruments, science and sports equipment, and tools. Viewing is available by appointment, with loading assistance also offered. Interested buyers are encouraged to register in advance. The online auction closes on Monday 9th November 2026. A look at the skills, responsibilities and changing demands of the auctioneer's role in today's live and online auction market. uctions have been bringing buyers and sellers together for centuries, but the way they operate has changed considerably. From traditional auction rooms to online bidding platforms, technology has transformed how sales are advertised, managed and attended. Yet, at the heart of every successful auction is the auctioneer, whose knowledge, experience and understanding of the market remain just as important as ever.

More Than Just Calling the Bids The auctioneer is often the most visible person in a traditional auction, responsible for introducing lots, managing bids and keeping the sale moving. A good auctioneer knows how to read the room, maintain momentum and encourage competitive bidding, while ensuring the process remains fair and transparent. However, much of their work takes place before the auction itself. Auctioneers help sellers prepare assets for sale, organise catalogues, advise on marketing and determine the most suitable sales approach. Their knowledge of particular industries and buyer demand can help ensure items reach the right audience.

The Skills Behind a Successful Auctioneer Being a successful auctioneer takes more than confidence and a quick way with words. Clear communication is essential, particularly when managing fastpaced bidding, keeping buyers

engaged and ensuring every bid is acknowledged. A strong understanding of the market is just as important. Knowing the goods being sold, current demand and comparable sales helps auctioneers offer informed guidance to sellers and answer bidders' questions with confidence. Professionalism, adaptability and attention to detail bring these skills together. Auctioneers need to understand the items they're handling and build trust with buyers and sellers, whether managing the sale of a high-value industrial asset or a collection of household items.

How Has Technology Changed the Role? Online auctions have introduced new ways for buyers to participate, removing geographical barriers and making sales accessible to a much wider audience. Automated bidding systems can now manage much of the bidding process, meaning an auctioneer does not always need to call bids in real time. That doesn't make their role any less important. Auctioneers still oversee

the sale, prepare accurate listings, manage enquiries and deal with any issues that arise. Many also combine online and live bidding, bringing together traditional auctioneering skills with digital platforms.

Finding the Right Auctioneer Not all auctioneers specialise in the same areas. Some focus on fine art and antiques, while others work across commercial machinery, vehicles, property or business assets. Choosing an auctioneer with relevant sector knowledge can make a real difference to how effectively goods are marketed and sold. At Auction News, we have spent more than 65 years building relationships with auctioneers across the UK and beyond. Our platform brings together sales from a wide range of specialists, helping buyers find relevant auctions and sellers connect with experienced professionals. Whether you're looking to buy, sell or simply learn more about the auction industry, understanding the people behind the sales is a good place to start.
