This could be in the form of a hint you didn't quite pick up on, a feeling you were never able to identify but that plagues you, or even something as obvious as realizing what the plot of your favorite show is really about.

This issue hopes to act as a lens through which you can see the world more clearly, and perhaps give you more insight into what you previously could not, or would not, see.

We hear and talk a lot about “Arabness” and what it means to fit within the Arab label today, whether it is through culture, religion, or the borders confining us.

Essentially, our personal identity is linked to memory. The Lockean memory theory of personal identity illustrates this seemingly bizarre correlation by linking past experiences, assumptions, and ideals, and their sameness, to who we Arabs identify as today. Our sense of self, according to John Locke, is inherently dependent on “psychological continuity”, which means our accumulated memories and, in a sense, our history are what creates our identy. So when, collectively, we erase past experiences we attempt to control the present reality, which is what happened to the history of queer Arabs and Muslims.

The erasure of queerness from our history books denies many their identity and the chance to reclaim it. In pre-colonialist times, the Muslim community adopted a much more liberal and fluid approach to sexuality, specifically within the Ottoman empire, to the extent of decriminalizing homosexuality in 1858. Looking back, we see how a lot of factors led to this stark shift from acceptance to erasure and marginalization. A glimpse through the archives of queerness in the Arab/Muslim world is not only surpising compared to the current homophobic narrative, but it is also a fact that needs to be acknowledged and fought against.

Homoerotic literature was widely accepted in the 13th- 15th century, it was also normal to romanticize what was known as the “youthful beauty” of young men. We see this in the writings of Abu Nawas, the classical Arab poet, known for writing “A Thousand and One Nights” and celebrating male love and sensuality.

Arab attitudes towards homosexuality have been greatly impacted by colonial powers.

Homoeroticism became stigmatised and perceived through an orientalist lens, despite its prevalence in “elite” Ottoman circles. In Khaled Abo Rouhayeb’s book “Before Homosexuality in the Arab-Islamic World”, he proves how the Ottoman empire embraced homosexuality through his analysis of literary texts dating to that

Fast forward to 2001 Egypt, the ministry of culture reportedly burned 6,000 of Abu Nawas’s poetry volumes due to pressure from Islamist fundamentalist groups and their calls for censorship of the “blasphemous” nature of his poetry. Abu Nawas not only symbolized the emergence of homoerotica, but his Sufi approach also combined his devotion to God with his poetry.

A famous writer who took a similar approach was Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, famously known as Rumi. Rumi’s work belongs to the same genre of Sufi mystical love writings, which were an ode to his mentor, Shams Tabrizi. In an article titled Rumi: The Homoerotic Sufi Saint by Delaney James, James analyzes Rumi’s relationship with his spiritual guide, Shams Tabrizi. James argues that Rumi had never written a verse of poetry before he met Tabrizi.

Later on, colonial penetration introduced heteronormativity to the Arab Muslim world. Ironicaly enough, today we describe homosexuality as a Western invasion when actually, it was once was our “norm”.

their heteronormative relationship dynamic, noting that, linguistically, in Paris a man could only express his love for a woman and vice versa. He then adopted the Parisian norm, claiming it was “natural” and that it should be applied to the Arab world. More importantly, he emphasized his disapproval of romanticizing adolescent boys. Through this shift, homosexuality became associated with “backwardness” and the stigma emerged from the striving towards “progress and civilization”.

Arabs contributions to queer culture and gender issues weren’t limited to literary pieces or poetry, but they were also evident in film.

Rifa'a al-Tahtawi, the Egyptian writer and Islamist scholar, made a significant visit to Paris in the 1820s, which marked a very obvious shift in the narrative. He is famously known for expressing his amusement at

November '20 Egyptian cinema in particular, though subtly, has tackled homosexuality in different ways throughout history. Social and state censorship may have stopped directors from directly challenging heteronormative order in their films, but portrayal of same sex relationships was very much adapted through cross dressing. Garay Menicucci’s research titled, “Unlocking the Arab Celluloid Closet: Homosexuality in Egyptian Film” addresses this phenomenon.

Meniucci takes us back to Muhammed Ali banning female dancers in the 19th century, which was followed by males dressing as female dancers to take over. Meniucci also explores one of the most famous Egyptian films using cross dressing as a plot driver, Bint al-basha al-mudir (The Pasha Director's Daughter, 1938). The plot of the movie revolves around a woman disguising herself as a man to fit a certain job criteria, only for another woman to develop feelings for her. Despite the film’s ending fulfilling the heterosexual order, it presented romantic scenes starring both women. Claiming that this cinematic period provided a fair portrayal of homosexuality might not be true, however compared to current media representation it was definitely better.

Queer characters in mainstream Arab films nowadays are presented as one dimensional, hypersexualized outcasts to society. The most famous example being

AUC Times “The Yacoubian Building” released in 2006, which despite its bigoted portrayal of homosexuality caused huge controversey in Egyptian conservative circles. The film portrayed a gay journalist who seduces a younger man, who had recently moved to the city, only for the young man to kill him in the end. The gay journalist embodied the Egyptian idea of evil: a manipulative, gay drunk. Additionally, his lover was portrayed as a naive young man who was “coerced” into being gay, which in turn further perpetuates harmful stereotypes painting queerness as “contagious”.

These examples of the sexual discourse in Egyptian cinema illustrate religious and state influence on creative expression, therefore on the livelihood of queer Arabs.

“A distortion of the historical record”. This is how Katarina Dalacoura describes the erasure of queer people from Arab history books. This very accurate phrase pinpoints the false synonymy prescribed on culture and homophobia in the Middle East.

Whenever the rights of queer Arabs are demanded, the answer to deny them that is simple, under the name of a conservative religious culture, even if this answer contradicts a long history of acceptance and inclusion. The erasure of queer icons and their stories is the prevailing narrative, and is a concious effort to preserve a constructed Arab/Muslim identity, which apparently must be called into question.

Laila hopped around the small apartment, looking for her marker. On the dining table? She wondered. But no, she only found her brother’s usual mess of notebooks. Maybe in his room? Nope, Ahmed had not taken her marker. She stepped into the hall and her eyes caught the couch.

Doubtfully, she plopped down, stuck a hand between the cushions, and“Aha!” she raised the marker in triumph and skipped over to her calendar on the wall. Today was marked with a big red circle that she had made a month or two ago, when Ahmed had gotten his overseas offer. He’d left at dawn the day before to catch his flight (departure times were convenient like that - after all, who wasn’t awake before the sun was up?), and with her parents out, she had the house all to herself - she was sure it would be that way for a while. She marked the day off with a flourish and set about making use of her newfound alone-time.

peaceful. Laila looked around, relishing the silence. She saw the mirror and smiled because there would be no more of his sneaking up behind her to ruffle her recently-brushed hair. At the dining table, there would be no more of his interrogations about her “tiny eighthgrade friends”. On the couch there would be no more brawls - which often ended in her nearsuffocation! - over who would get the TV remote.

And the peace and quiet - oh, the quiet! There was no Ahmed with his loud calls or screaming matches when he played online. None of his friends gathered in the balcony yelling and hollering about girls or games or Godknows-what. No constant loop of action movies on the TV, no music blasting from his speakers, no snores echoing from his room!

She sighed contentedly as she opened up a book and thought, Ah...I’m going to enjoy this.

And she did. For a time.

Then one calm day, she’d been flipping through channels on TV and found his favorite movie playing. She almost shouted across the apartment to ask if he wanted her to record

it before catching herself. She frowned at the misstep, but continued to flip through channels.

Another time she’d been halfway to his room with an assignment in hand to ask for help before the lack of music had her realizing he wasn’t there; he never bothered to wear headphones.

She’d petitioned her dad’s help with the assignment instead, but was left somewhat uneasy even long after she had handed in her work at school the next day.

A whole month passed before her quiet days started to feel less enjoyable. She couldn’t focus on anything - not work, not books, not videos or games - and the peaceful silence soon became oppressive.

Did they really leave us alone so often? She thought as she moped from room to room around the house.

If they had, she certainly hadn’t noticed. She half-heartedly kicked a bouncy ball that had been abandoned under the dining table weeks earlier. As thanks, it decided to roll under the couch. Laila pursed her lips and reached for it blindly, but instead of the ball, she found shiny pieces of confetti.

When we reflect upon the term “minority” or “people of color” within the United States of America, there are certain images, which come into mind. Certain faces presented on mainstream media.

Then, there are those who are depicted as an “ancient” pastime. In fact, the only time when they are spoken upon, is through her/history books; as if that is the only place, where they are allowed to be. They are painted and crafted as a commoditywhose culture is to be used as a fashion accessory, a decorative image for the latest social media trend, or a product to be sold at the latest bazaar, or cultural, antique exhibition. Yet, as a collective of actual, living, and breathing people to be celebrated seems to be a rarity; unless they are called to give a performance exhibition.

Then, they are allowed to be vigilant. Then, their existence is tolerated.

For Native/Indigenous communities in the United States Of America, it is apparent they have been portrayed as, “no more.”

So many US citizens, including those who are 1st and 2nd generation citizens, are oblivious (and even indifferent) to the presence of Native and Indigenous communities to what is considered the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world. In fact, other than them being the first people on this land, so many are unaware of their hers/history. Other than feathers, teepees, and traditional symbolisms (and traditional stereotypes), a number would even give the ludicrous ideology of what there is to know about Native and Indigenous groups. Let it be known that Native/Indigenous communities of the United States of America and Canada (including Mexico, Central and South America) are still alive. Not only are they alive, but many have continued to keep up with traditions, and those things they did in the, “ancient way.” On Native/Indigenous

tribal and residential lands, Native people continue to maintain their culture. Of course, that is for another piece. Yet, let it be known that Native/Indigenous people of “the Western world,” are still around, and such leads to another matter.

In Native/Indigenous communities, women are valuable. Spiritual traditions and ways of living honor the Mother and the feminine’s role in sustaining life. Mother and Maiden images are presented for all to see, and the community operates in the way of Mother Earth. Native women are important. From whatever nation they come from, young Native girls and women are feminine representation of Native people and Indigenous communities. So, when the women go missing, something is wrong. When young, Native women are “magically disappearing” once they step off from Native lands and premises, never to see their homes or families again, something is wrong. What is even more disgusting is the silence towards it. Though it is publicly happening, it is treated as a private and silent matter. Something is eerily wrong. It is as if a silent agreement has been made by those in power, to allow it to happen. No documentation.

No reports are even made to the local authorities, when it happens.

In comparison to Black American, Latino/a, Asian, and others, atrocities against Native and Indigenous communities receive no attention from mainstream media. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. The documentary, Life on the Rez: Powwow Performance-Our America With Lisa Ling, chronicles life on the particular residential spacings. There was also a 1992 feature on Oprah’s “Racism In America,” which examined racism, bigotry, and the marginalization of Native/ Indigenous people. High suicide rates,

Her/History attacks against Native culture and violence against Native Americans have taken place by European settlers.

Other incidents such as Indian boarding schools (1860-1978) were established as a means of White-washing Native her/ history. In compliance with the March 3, 1819 Civilization Fund Act. “. . .Student were stripped of all things associated with Native life. Their long hair, a source of pride for many Native peoples, was cut short, usually into identical, bowl haircuts. . .Students were physically punished for speaking.” (“Death By Education,” from The Atlantic, March 8, 2019). Thus, it comes as no surprise that Native women and girls would soon come under attack, as they are representations for hope, renewal, and restoration of Native people. Unfortunately, the disappearances of Native/ Indigenous women in the United States and Canada are nothing new. Organizations such as the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI) have conducted statistical students on the number of Native/Indigenous women and girls, who have gone missing. “Then in 2018, the Seattle-based Urban Indian Health Institute (UHI) completed its landmark survey, reporting 5,712 missing Alaska Native and American Indian women

and girls, only 116 of whom were registered in the Department of Justice database.” (“Addressing the Epidemic of Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls”March 6, 2020 article from the Culture and Survival)

Delving further into the violent attacks against Native women, we can examine the exoticism and hyper-sexualization, which has been placed on Native women’s bodies. Again, such violence goes back to earlier, European colonizers and the sexualization of Native women, as a means of colonization and conquest. One of Columbus’ aristocratic friends, Michele de Cuneo, who came with Columbus to North America wrote in his diary: “When I was in the boat, I captured a beautiful, Carib woman. . .Having brought her into my cabin, and she being naked as is their custom, I conceived desire to take my pleasure. I wanted to put my desire to execution, but she was unwilling for me to do so. . .I took a rope-end and thrashed her well, following which she produced such screaming and wailing as would cause you not to believe your ears.” (Bono 2019: 4)

In addition, there have been other preconceived notions about Native women’s sexuality and the very racial hierarchies, placed on them, in comparison to European women. Furthermore, what also seemed to pose as a problem for European settlers were the gender roles, existing within certain Native communities.

Famed Objiwe, Native activist, author, and economist articulates the following in The Star Tribune: “Europeans assumed that Native people lived as Europeans did, in which elite men defined ‘the appropriate way’ for women to behave. They failed to understand

the equality of the sexes in some Native societies, where women enjoyed high, economic social, and political status (Man, 60, 65-66). Indeed, before colonization, in many Native American cultures women were respected, treated as equals and held leadership roles. In addition to being basket makers, potters, weavers, caregivers, healers, these women were landholders and many worked in agriculture, which was considered by Europeans to be men’s work.” (Le May 2018: 6)

alcoholism, high infant mortality rates, the poisoning of Native waters have taken place on Native lands. Simultaneously, there are also many images, sources, and activities happening on Native/ First Nation communities, who are using culture as a vital instrument in overcoming and transforming the hardships. Critical Native media and newspaper outlets such as Indian Country Today, www.Indianz. com, and numerous others, showcase the activities for Native people to keep themselves reflected, as people of US soiling - the very first, in fact.

Such goes to show that much of the ethnic cleansing and genocide against Native communities also included numerous attempts to destroy various, tribal systems.

Nevertheless, digital movements such as #MMIW (Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women) have come to shed the light on these disappearances. The movement was formed by Sheila North Wilson, who is the former Grand Chief of Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak, Incorporated.

Between the United States and Canada, it has become a transnational movement. As campaign movements continue to move a gain momentum, tribal organizations have continued to demand for the safety of Native women and girls. Furthermore, It is a movement growing; thereby demonstrating that Native Lives, too, do matter!

Allow me to introduce you to the sociological concept of the so-called “hidden curriculum”, something which, according to research done by Boostrom, is “student learning that is not described by curriculum planners or teachers as an explicit aim of instruction, even though it results from deliberate practices and organizational structures.” In layman's terms: Congratulations! Regardless of which educational system your school

followed, you have been spoon-fed hidden ideological concepts as a side dish during lunchtime.

A good example is one that certainly flew over everyone’s heads in middle school while learning about ratios. Just take a look at the following story-based problem, taken straight out of an Egyptian 6th Grade Mathematics textbook: “A man left 82,000 Egyptian pounds for his wife, son, and daughter. The wife gets 1/8th of the money, while the daughter gets half of what the son gets. How much money does each of them get?”

On the surface, this may seem like an innocent story-based Math problem.

However, there’s more to it than what meets the eye - it’s not just meant to teach you about ratios; it’s a lesson on how inheritance is divided according to Islamic Sharia law! As per this law, one eighth of a given deceased man’s property is given to the wife, in the case of the husband having a successor; in this case: a son.

Additionally (no pun intended), the share a daughter receives of inheritance is half that of a son’s.

With that in mind, it is crucial to note that hidden curricula do not come to play on religious terms only.

An observation penned by Thornberg in The Moral Construction of the Good Pupil states that the mere goal of hidden curricula is to teach people not to question the social order. Students internalize the rules of their schools due to the fact that they learn that if they follow the rules, they will be rewarded for being “good”. Because there is no critique of school rules in lessons, students aren’t taught to question them.

The same thing applies in regards to federal and religious laws as well - female students who reside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for example, were taught at some point in time a specific law-enforced dress code of abaya robes, as illustrated in Saudi Arabian film Wadjda.

Moreover, an interesting theory by Edward W. Morris notes that the so-called “hidden curriculum” can be twisted and utilized in a way that could come at a disadvantage for minority groups, forcing them to adopt the norms and values of the majority.

In his journal article Tuck in That Shirt!, it is argued that the hidden curriculum subconsciously forces people of color to act and dress like their white counterparts.

Fashions and hairstyles pertaining to the African-American community are designated as inferior to the hairstyles and fashions of the dominant culture.

Now that the meaning of the “hidden curriculum” is established, do we really need it?

This is a complicated question that sociologists left and right are torn between the various answers to. Hidden curricula are not necessarily “evil” by nature; in fact, they are often unintentionally taught. If anything, some positive aspects of hidden curricula include teaching students how to behave with each other in a civilized manner. Notwithstanding, whether we need it or not, and whether it is “evil” or not, it will always be resting peacefully within the pages of every school book known to humankind.

7:00 am, my alarm rings. I get out of bed and go through my morning routine. Every day is the same.

I wake up and sit in bed for exactly 5 minutes until my second alarm rings. Then, I sit up in bed and adjust my pillow, so that I’m not laying down, and I scroll through my phone for about 15 minutes. My third alarm sounds, it’s time to get out of bed and into the shower. I stay in the shower for 15 minutes on the dot, my hair needs to look perfect. I stand in front of my bathroom mirror for the next 5-10 minutes adjusting my hair. I brush my teeth, drink my coffee and skip breakfast today. I’m too anxious for food today.

Now, before I seem like a calculated psychopath. God, do people think I’m a psychopath? Back to the point. My morning routine is important. If something goes out of order, I spend the rest of the day thinking in spirals.

My therapist calls it “a fun mix of functional intense anxiety and depression”. I don’t personally validate my anxiety, because I relatively have it together on the outside.

Grades, social life, work. I’m what they call, a femme fatale, or a boss. On the inside, though, I’m a hot mess. My brain hates me.

“Stay in control of at least one aspect of the day, it’s a stability that you need”, my therapist always says.

I walk into the university through the gardens and put my giant headphones on.

So many humans, too many humans. When did the university become this crowded? I walk to my 10 am class, my second cup of coffee in hand. I always walk in rhythmic steps. I dull out my face so that it looks bored and serious, instead of looking like a cat that you just placed a cucumber next to.

The controlled steps and my heeled boots give off a dominant vibe, so people would leave me alone. If only they knew.

Man, I am already exhausted. This path relaxes me, the greenery and the kittens are nice.

“HEY!” I see a tall figure jump and flail his arms in the distance. Man, I am not ready for pleasantries this early. I hope it’s not someone I barely know , I cannot play nice today. “HEY OVER HERE!’ The six-foot something idiot that I call a best friend waves. Thank god , I get to be relatively myself. I meet him halfway to prevent even more attention from falling onto us, it’s not the day for it.

“Dude aren’t you supposed to be in class?”

I hug him, I am one of the few anxious people out there who actually prefer physical human contact.

“Nah, my 8:30 got cancelled. Drove an hour and everything, just to have it cancelled at the last minute. It’s alright though, I got to take in the scenery for an hour” he rants.

Wow, sitting alone, for an hour. I would’ve been spiraling by now. I can’t sit with my thoughts for this long. Must be nice.

I zone back in to find that he had been talking the entire time. The way this man can actually talk for this long, while making steady eye contact; it scares me.

“You zoned out again. Yep, your eyes glazed over. It’s fine. Anyways, we need to talk to have this conversation again later. I don’t know what you missed or didn’t miss, but this is really important to me.” He states, speaking so quickly that my brain struggles to catch up. He saw my eyes getting wider in sheer panic. “I am not mad at you, don’t worry. You get used to it after a while,” he says sarcastically. Too late.

I walk away, my head already on overdrive.

Sometimes, I think he genuinely doesn’t notice how quiet I’m being, or that he is basically talking to himself 75% of the time. I sigh, already knowing my head is not going to shut up for the rest of the day.

What were we... or actually, what was he talking about? Wait, did I do something to make him mad? I hope I didn’t.

Tears start welling in my eyes. This always happens, I get the tiniest inkling that I pissed someone off or did something wrong and here comes the depression.

Damn it, not today. French-school fake smile and straighten your back. Walk in controlled steps. We got through high school; this is nothing.

“He loves you. He’s not mad at you. He’s not going anywhere, this is just your head, you’re fine.” I whisper to myself and focus on the sound of the heels of my boots on the ground.

I get to class and, as always, I’m the first there. The students and the professor think that this is me having it together. In reality, I just don’t like people staring when I walk in the room. Not that I’m Beyoncé or anything.

It’s human instinct, when someone walks into a room alone, people look at them. The class goes on for what feels like hours, I zone into the material we’re discussing, my leg bouncing to the professor’s rhythm.

“Let’s talk finals! This time, I’m thinking of having group projects. You know, to lessen the load on you guys,” the professor announces. Oh, dear god no. This man did not just say group projects, in a senior seminar, is he absolutely insane?

I have three friends that I meet on separate occasions because I can’t handle that many people at the same time. Goddammit. I already know he’s making me pick first. Dear God, don’t let him make me do that. That is a horrible thing to do to a person. I can’t break out into a friend group again. Jesus Christ why, just why? What is this, highschool?

I zone back in to him saying ,“As always, our highest grade gets to make the big girl decision,” he giggles. Of course, I scan the class and look for the most desperate faces. Yes, my brethren , I see you . I pick 4 people randomly and hope to god they don’t hate me. Two painful minutes later, the class ends, and I book it out of there. I

have their numbers, and I can easily talk to them over text.

After grabbing coffee number three, knowing fully that it will definitely not help me, I hide in the library for the rest of the day; just me, my Netflix, and my assignments. I love this place, it’s quiet and no one bothers you. Perfect place to sit and procrastinate in peace.

I feel a jab against my shoulder. “Hey,” I turn to a stranger, a very pretty one at that.

He is trying really hard to figure me out , but why? Do not be weird, you’re going to see him two days a week for three months.

Why is he talking to me? Did I fart? Was my music too loud? Was I shaking my leg too hard again? I don’t want to talk. God, why is he talking to me? I put on my best smile and nod.

“Well, I bid you thanks young one. You saved me,” he says in the fakest British accent I have heard and pulls out a chair next to mine.

One less face to stare at you when you walk into the class. I put on an ex-French school face coupled with my snarky and sarcastic attitude that people find adorable.

Eventually, it was time for me to go.

I get in my car, unbutton my pants, which were now too tight because of my nervous gas bloating me. I put on a horror podcast and drove home.

I open the door to my house and a feeling that can only be compared to taking off a bra after a long day washes over me. It was late, and I was so tired from human interaction today, I realized I’d forgotten to eat. I make a small meal for the sake of not fainting, brush my teeth, and get in bed with my journal, where I can write for 10 minutes, or 20, to clear my head.

Today’s a twenier for sure. I sigh, and begin to write. 20 minutes later, I lay down and close my eyes.

Tomorrow I do it all over again.

freely stepping outside of their homes, had an instant effect on people’s psyche.

Supermarket raids spiked up and people were hoarding, to try to stock up as much as they could “before it was too late”. But, these raids speak to something beyond the lockdown, they speak to the collective fear of change. It is already difficult to embrace change, let alone a change that is fueled by fear of the unknown.

This collective fear made people try to scramble together, yearning for their pre-quarantine life. This commiseration displayed itself in everything from raids, to memes, to even anti-maskers. They all spoke to the feeble, desperate attempt to get any semblance of control over people’s new, forced reality- to go back to the

“predictable” mundane. The raids stemmed from the mirage that possessing essentials equated to control. The same applies to the memes and anti-maskers; if the pandemic was a joke or a conspiracy, then there would be nothing really outside of people’s control. These reactions all showed how the expectedness of pre-quarantine life came with a sense of safety, and having that safety yanked away, suddenly and ruthlessly, made people seek any way to replicate it again to regain “control”. This assumption that what we are used to is under our control is, of course, untrue, but drastic changes give the illusion that one can control the sky, when one can only look at it.

Even though the sudden beginning of lockdown took everyone by surprise, it soon became a new normal. Inevitably, every drastic change lasting enough time becomes the normal. So, even though people might have, in the beginning, reminisced over the sky, now, there are other small “normalicies” that will only be missed after the pandemic, and when remembered will give the false-impression of control. But for now, this new normal, unlike pre-quarantine’s fast paceness, for many instead is still space to explore oneself. Through solitude, people are given the chance to work on passions that they had not previously had time for. But with that aloneness, we are all forced to see the unavoidable reality that nothing is really under our control.

When quarantine started, it became immediately apparent that there were things in our lives that were so ingrained in normalcy that they were taken for granted. Getting stripped from one of the essential elements of most people’s lives,

So much of our day used to go by unnoticed. The clouds cleaving between the sun was just a Monday. Why would anyone notice the mundane, everyday sky when it was overshadowed by the immediacy of so many other pressing things? But, having our everyday flow disrupted created space to look at prior uninteresting moments as what truly stands out. So, instead of never noticing the sky, people were forced to look at it, unblinkingly, in both marvel and horror.

As soon as Masoud hung up, the clerk went to consult his boss. “What then, boss?” he asked in a worried tone. The boss sat with his arms crossed, thinking with his assistant, who is known as “the old wolf”.

Long ago there was a man called Masoud, who came to find a job as an electronics engineer; a step to achieve his vision in life.

The old wolf eventually told the clerk, “Send him a big box filled with very expensive stuff, and call it The Happiness Box, and tell

The next day, as promised, the clerk returned with an answer for Masoud, asking him what he needed again. Masoud said, “Well now, I am not sure that I know myself or who I really need to be. But, from what II know, all immortal people have

AN OPEN LETTER TO SECTION 11 OF INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

November '20 Dear students, It has come to the attention of the department that many of you are having trouble navigating the simulation component of the course, your understanding of which impacts at least 25% of your total grade. It then came to the attention of the department that they have an underpaid adjunct faculty member to whom they can task this entire issue and spend the rest of their 8-hour schedule daytrading. While I do despise this grunt work, it is much less demeaning than my chores last semester, when I was dragged back and forth from campus and a certain unnamed professor’s villa, and made sure the nanny hadn’t nicked any of the family jewelry.

Now, I’m aware that the Business Administration program is considered too simple or intellectually undemanding.

However, my own survey, co-conducted with the Psychology department, of a sample of Business students dispels this notion: 80% of you, we’ve found, had absolutely no issues in naming shapes and colors, reciting farm animal names or counting to 100. In fact, we’ve found that an elite portion of students (about 1%) exhibited ambivalence or an otherwise

bored affect when shown stock images of starving children. This striking lack of empathy, I suspect, may correlate positively to in-class performance, which has been a long-standing assumption made by the department.

I’m considered an optimist by some professors, but I like to think that all of our students have the potential to be among this prodigal grouping—or, as we’ve termed them, One-Percenters.

Having banished the regressive notion of Business students as witless drones, let’s begin, as many of our classes do, with a simple analogy.

“Give a man a fish,” it says, “and he’ll eat for a day… Teach a man to fish, then take the fish, deny him any because they’re marketed to A-class customers, pay for his cab home then you will eat for a lifetime.’

That apt, if not at all concise, version of the time-worn analogy was one of Papa’s sayings. I distinctly remember him raspily whispering it to me, as a world-class team of surgeons transplanted his head onto a younger, and more virile, body. As the self-made tech mogul behind Exploit Inc., he acutely understood the importance of leadership and passed his wisdom onto me; I am, after all, expected to succeed him. “You need to

Being a leader—I'm thinking a ‘JuliusCaesar-type’— rests upon pin-pointing, as is in your case, the talents and weaknesses of your fellow teammates.

Yes, I know that some of them are only taking this class as an elective, some are socially inept engineers; others are HUSS oddballs (who think deadlines are one step away from full-blown Orwellianism); while others may be IMC majors. In the final case, they should know that they’re three rungs beneath you in the BEC hierarchy and must do as you tell them, they’re perfect for coffee runs.

These people may seem illiterate in business terms, but you must put them to work and push them to all the heavy lifting.

One way to do this is to call dibs on the easiest questions in group assignments— so get to those early. Who knows! Perhaps your teammates will surprise you as did Papa’s surgeons, who, before he realized their potentials, were nothing more than a fringe group of disgraced doctors with revoked licenses. My point is: anything goes on international waters. Think outside the box!

In case you’re still wondering, or are in the unfortunate 20%, your teammates are the fishermen in the analogy and the other teams are the fish. What an ingenious metaphor. While Papa is chock full of sage insights, it’s comforting to know that a younger, more relevant CEO will soon fill his shoes. Any day now.

One must think of a worker as a person, as a living, breathing human (capital). Learn more about them! Put on those virtual reality goggles, revel in the cutting-edge Open-World technology,

follow your workers home at night and figure out what you can hold against them as leverage.

Now that I’ve read what I’ve written so far, it seems absurd to me, utterly bananas, that my own father doesn’t think I have what it takes to run a business. I invite you lot to imagine with me the look on that decrepit face, a phone raised up to it because he can’t move his neck at all now, reading my advice and tumbling over as he adjusts to that ridiculous twenty-year old body. “You reject

common sense the way my spleen rejects a tapeworm!” he’d cackle, which is deliciously ironic now since it's more than likely, his doctors said, that his new body (bought illegally from a morgue, mind you) will inevitably reject his own head. What a fall Papa! Falling all the way from the Forbes 100 down into a vat of fluids in which your preserved, mildly conscious head will bob for eternity.

‫هتتــم الفتيــات لهــذا األمــر فهــم يــرون أن لــكل شــخص‬ ‫حريتــه يف اختياراتــه فهــن عــى ســبيل املثــال يكتفــن‬ ‫بــرب نــوع خفيــف مــن اخلمــور مــن حــن آلخــر‪.‬‬ ‫انتهــى اليــوم وعــاد كل منهــم لغرفتــه مــا عــدا بــال‬ ‫وزينــة حيــث اتفقــا عــى اجللــوس يف أحــد األماكــن ذات‬ ‫"الڤيــو" الرومانــي‪ .‬بــدأت عالمــات "الهــاجن أوفــر"‬ ‫أي أثــر ز يــادة تنــاول اخلمــر أو املخــدرات‪ -‬تظهــر عــى‬‫بــال فأخــذ يتجــاوز حــدوده املتعــارف عليهــا بينــه وبــن‬ ‫زينــة‪ .‬بــدأت زينــة تشــعر بالذعــر وحاولــت املقاومــة‬ ‫لكنهــا ظلــت تكــذب نفســها؛ فهــذا بــال حبيبهــا لــن‬ ‫يــرىض لهــا األذيــة أبـ ًـدا‪ .‬أمــا بــال فقــد دخــل مرحلــة يف‬ ‫غايــة اخلطــورة وهــي تأثــر الشــهوة وســيطرهتا املدمــرة‪،‬‬ ‫ورجو ًعــا إىل اتبــاع مساتــه الشــخصية اإلدمانيــة‪ ،‬أقنــع‬ ‫بــال نفســه أنــه لــن يوقفــه أي يشء عــن تنفيــذ رغبتــه‪،‬‬ ‫وال حــى نظــرات زينــة ا لــي تــرخ بالرفــض‪ .‬وبالفعــل‪،‬‬ ‫متكــن بــال مــن فعــل مــا ير يــد بــكل أنانيــة واغتصــب‬ ‫حبيبتــه! تعتــر هــذه الليلــة أول مواجهــة لبــال‬ ‫أمــام ذاتــه‪ ...‬بــل هــي أشــبه با لــراع‪ :‬مل يصــدق بــال‬ ‫فعلــه هــذا‪ ،‬مل يصــدق أنانيتــه‪ ،‬فكيــف يصــل بــه األمــر‬ ‫حلــد االغتصــاب؟! وبــدأ يتســاءل هــل اخــرت حيــايت‪،‬‬ ‫أم اختارتــي؟ هــل أنــا مذنــب أم ضحيــة؟ إنــه رصاع‬ ‫الــذات ال غــره!‬ ‫بالرغــم مــن مأســاة قصــة بــال ومــا تثــره مــن‬ ‫ ‬ ‫غضــب واشــتعال يف نفســك يــا عز يــزي القــارئ إال‬ ‫إهنــا توضــح إجابــة الســؤال ا لــذي حيرينــا جميعً ــا وهــو‪:‬‬ ‫كيــف تتكــون شــخصياتنا؟ وهــل تتأثــر باجلينــات أم‬ ‫بالبيئــة املحيطــة بنــا أم بنشــأتنا؟ واإلجابــة هــي أن‬ ‫شــخصياتنا ناجتــة عــن مــزجي معقــد بــن مــا ورثنــاه‬ ‫مــن آبائنــا‪ ،‬باإلضافــة إىل األحــداث الــي نعيشــها‪،‬‬ ‫دورا ال ميكــن التغــايض‬ ‫كمــا تلعــب طريقــة تربيتنــا ً‬ ‫عنــه يف هــذا التشــكيل‪ .‬كانــت نشــأة بــال نشــأة‬ ‫فيهــا تقصــر مــن األهــل؛ فقــد نصحــت األخصائيــة‬ ‫االجتماعيــة ملدرســته يف يــوم مــن األيــام أن ُيعــرض‬ ‫بــال عــى طبيــب نفــي حيــث أهنــا متكنــت مــن رؤ يــة‬ ‫مســات الشــخصية اإلدمانيــة فيــه منــذ صغــره‪ ،‬كذلــك‬ ‫نصحــت بوضــع حـ ٍـد للــدالل ا لــذي يأخــذه بــال مــن‬ ‫والديــه‪ ،‬وبــرورة إ لــزام العقــاب ألي فعــل ســليب يقــوم‬ ‫بــه‪ .‬أمــا عــن اجلــزء اخلــاص باجلينــات‪ ،‬فقــد أثبــت الطــب‬

‫النفــي أن تلــك الســمات املصاحبــة للشــخصية‬ ‫اإلدمانيــة تــورث مــن جيــل آلخــر؛ فر مبــا يكــون قــد ورهثــا‬ ‫ي بــال‬ ‫مــن أحــد أقاربــه‪ .‬ولألســف‪ ،‬مل يتفهــم وا لــد ْ‬ ‫أهميــة هــذا ا لــكالم وعواقبــه وهــا هــي النتيجــة‪...‬‬ ‫ويف اخلتــام‪ ،‬أرى أن هــذا ا لــراع النفــي‬ ‫ ‬ ‫موجــود داخــل كل شــخص منــا‪ .‬عــى ســبيل املثــال‪،‬‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫ـزء مــن‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ج‬ ‫ـى‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ع‬ ‫ـراض‬ ‫ـ‬ ‫ع‬ ‫اال‬ ‫يشــعر معظمنــا بــيء مــن‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫تربيتــه؛ فكــم منــا وعــد نفســه أنــه ســيعوض أبنــاءه‬ ‫عــن مــا افتقــده يف نشــأته؟ كــم منــا بــرر مساتــه الســيئة‬ ‫وألقــى اللــوم عــى أهلــه أو جيناتــه أو "برجــه الفلــي"‬ ‫مثـ ًـا؟ يف احلقيقــة يــا عز يــزي القــارئ‪ ،‬أر يــدك أن‬ ‫تعلــم أنــه بالفعــل يوجــد العديــد مــن العوامــل املؤثــرة‬ ‫يف تكو يــن شــخصيتك‪ ،‬ولكــن هللا تعــاىل خلقــك‬ ‫ـادرا عــى التغيــر؛ ولذلــك ال تستســلم‬ ‫إنســا ًنا عاقـ ًـا قـ ً‬ ‫لعيوبــك‪ ،‬واســتمر يف البحــث عــن أفضــل نســخة مــن‬ ‫تقلباتــك!‬

‫ميتلكهــا بــال‪ ،‬وهــي‬ ‫موهبتــه يف ا لــكالم املعســول ‪-‬مــع الفتيــات بالطبــع‪-‬‬ ‫ممــا جيعلــه "جــان" اجلامعــة‪ ...‬ولكــن دون جلوســه‬ ‫"باجليتــار" عــى درج مبــى كليــة اإلعــام‪.‬‬ ‫مشاكســا‪ ،‬وبالرغــم مــن كونــه تلميــذاً‬ ‫كان بــال طفـ ً‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ً‬ ‫بليـ ًـدا إال أنــه كان محبو ًبــا مــن اجلميــع‪ ،‬وفيهــم‬ ‫معلمــوه‪ .‬اعتــاد بــال املراوغــة منــذ صغــره فــكان‬ ‫دا ًمئــا مــا خيــدع زمــاءه ومعلميــه يف املدرســة‪ ،‬ومل يأبــه‬ ‫أبـ ً‬ ‫ـدا بعواقــب أفعا لــه‪ ،‬فكمــا كانــت تقــول أمــه يف كل‬

‫مــرة يســتدعوهنا إىل‬ ‫املدرســة‪" :‬دي شــقاوة عيــال"‪ .‬مــا ميــز طفولــة بــال‬ ‫ً‬ ‫أيضــا هــو متتعــه بالرتفــه وعشــق أهلــه لــه فــكان دا ًمئــا‬ ‫أول مــن يــأيت بــأي لعبــة حديثــة يف الصــف‪ ،‬وكان عيــد‬ ‫ميــاده مناســبة ال متــر إال باحتفــال كبــر مــئ بــكل مــا‬ ‫يشــتهيه قلــب أي صغــر‪ ،‬فتظــل حتــي وتتحــاىك عنــه‬ ‫أيامــا بعــد مــروره؛ ممــا كان يثــر يف‬ ‫املدرســة بأكملهــا ً‬ ‫ـعورا بثقــة يف النفــس ليــس لهــا حــدود‪.‬‬ ‫نفــس بــال شـ ً‬ ‫ كــر بــال ودخــل اجلامعــة بعــد محــاوالت غــر‬

‫معــدودة مــع امتحــان الدبلومــة األمريكيــة (‪،)SAT‬‬ ‫ورسعــان مــا كـ َّـون مجموعتــه اخلاصــة يف اجلامعــة‬ ‫مــن حــوايل تســعة شــباب وخمــس فتايــات مل تفلــت‬ ‫واحــدة فيهــن مــن الوقــوع يف حبــه‪ .‬أمــا بالنســبة لــه‬ ‫فلــم يكــن لديــه وقــت ملالحظتهــن؛ حيــث أنــه يدخــل‬ ‫يف عالقــة جديــدة مــع فتــاة مختلفــة كل أســبوع‬ ‫تقري ًبــا‪ .‬ومل يكــن هــذا النمــط جديـ ًـدا عليــه‪،‬‬ ‫فهــذه كانــت حياتــه منــذ الثانو يــة‪ .‬ولكــن‬ ‫تأثــر حيــاة اجلامعــة غــر املقيــدة أخــذ‬ ‫ً‬ ‫منعطفــأ يف حيــاة بــال؛ ففــي الفصــل‬ ‫الــدرايس الثــاين مــن الســنة األوىل‬ ‫لــه يف اجلامعــة اجتــه للمخــدرات!‬ ‫هــو والتســعة اآلخــرون مــن‬ ‫مجموعتــه خطــوا أوىل خطــوات‬ ‫اإلدمــان سـ ً‬ ‫ـويا؛ فبــدأ املوضــوع‬ ‫بتدخــن املخــدرات يف احلفــات‬ ‫الــي تقيمهــا اجلامعــة "تفارحيــي‬ ‫كــده‪ :‬حيــث يســتفيد بــال مــن‬ ‫صداقتــه املعــدودة ويتمكــن مــن‬ ‫إدخــال شــى أنــواع املخــدرات‬ ‫داخــل احلــرم اجلامعــي لينتقــل هــو‬ ‫وأصدقــاؤه إىل عاملهــم اخلــاص جـ ًـدا‪...‬‬ ‫ أ َّثــر تعاطــي املخــدرات عــى‬ ‫ـرا؛ فأصبــح شــخصية‬ ‫ـرا كبـ ً‬ ‫حيــاة بــال تأثـ ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫إضافــة إىل أنــه‬ ‫نرجســية ومســيطرة‪،‬‬ ‫صــار عدوان ًيــا بشــكل مشــن فكــرت نزاعاتــه‬ ‫ومشــاجراته مــع النــاس‪ ،‬وفيهــم أصدقــاؤه‪ ،‬وبــدأت‬ ‫دائرتــه االجتماعيــة تنكمــش شــي ًئا فشــي ًئا‪ .‬كمــا أنــه‬ ‫أصبــح أنان ًيــا يتعامــل مــع متطلباتــه كأوامــر واجــب‬ ‫تنفيذهــا‪ .‬حــى ال أطيــل عليكــم ميكننــا أن نقــول أن‬ ‫بــال اكتســب معظــم مســات الشــخصية اإلدمانيــة‬ ‫كمــا تصفهــا كتــب علــم النفــس‪.‬‬ ‫ مــا زاد الطــن بلــة هــو ســفر بــال للعــن‬ ‫الســخنة مــع حبيبتــه "زينــة" وبقيــة الصحبــة املقربــة‬ ‫منــه لقضــاء عطلــة "الو يــك إنــد"‪ .‬يف اليــوم الثــاين مــن‬ ‫العطلــة‪ ،‬هســرت املجموعــة يف إحــدى احلانــات ورشب‬ ‫الشــباب بشــكل هســتريي باإلضافــة إىل تناولهــم لنــوع‬ ‫جديــد مــن املخــدرات يدعــى "اإلســروكس" الــذي‬ ‫رجحــه "مصطفــى" وهــو أحــد أفــراد املجموعــة‪ .‬مل‬

‫اعتــدت فــرة منــذ بضعــة ســنوات أن أســتقل قطــار‬ ‫الشــعب ‪-‬كان ُيعــرف بذلــك وقتهــا وأعتقــد إىل اآلن‪-‬‬ ‫أثنــاء ذهــايب إىل ُكليــي ملــدة ال تز يــد عــن ســنة ذها ًبــا‬ ‫وإيا ًبــا‪ ،‬مل أكــن وقتهــا أقــرأ بشــكل مســتمر؛ لذلــك كنــت‬ ‫أتامــل َمــن ِمــن حــويل وأخنــرط يف بعــض األحاديــث‬ ‫القصــرة لــي ال أشــعر مبســافة الوقــت‪ ،‬و ُكنــت أكتــب‬ ‫بعــض اليوميــات يف صيغــة حكايــات وتأمــات يف‬ ‫شــكل رسدي‪.‬‬ ‫شــخص مــا اليــوم كان متجهً ــا للجيــش ينتظــر القطــار‬ ‫املتأخــر معــي‪ ،‬ليضغــط الوقــت بــدأ يتحــدث إيلّ كأنــه‬ ‫يعرفــي منــذ زمــن بعيــد وحــى يل كيــف جــرت بــه‬ ‫احليــاة حــى أوصلتــه إىل ذلــك املقعــد جبــواري‪ .‬أزهــري‬ ‫الدراســة‪ ،‬تــرك األزهــر ليكســب املــال‪ ،‬وبعــد أن ُطــرد‬ ‫منــه وأقنعــوه أهلــه بالفشــل ‪-‬هــو كان مقتنــع يف‬ ‫األصــل‪ -‬كان ميلــك تــوك تــوك يف بلــده‪ ،‬وحيــي بشــغف‬ ‫منتظـ ًـرا اللحظــة الــي ينهــي فيهــا ســنتني اخلدمــة‬ ‫اإلجبار يــة‪ ،‬ليخــرج ويذهــب ليبيــع التــوك تــوك‪،‬‬ ‫ويدخــل بعــض اجلمعيــات‪ ،‬ويســتطيع أن يشــري‬

‫الســيارة الــي مثنهــا ‪ً 50‬‬ ‫ألفــا‪ ،‬وخيــرج إىل الطر يــق‬ ‫ليعمــل دون أن يوقفــه أحــد يبحــث عــن هار ًبــا مــن‬ ‫اجليش‪.‬‬ ‫رشدت حينهــا وتذكــرت أن ليــس يل أحــام ُمحــددة‬ ‫أو ُممتلــكات ُتذكــر ألحــي وأعيــش قصــي مثــل رفيــق‬ ‫انتظــار القطــار‪ ،‬كلهــا أحــام زائلــة احلماســة بعــد‬ ‫بضعــة أيــام أو بعــد اإلســتيقاظ‪ ،‬أو حــى أحــام ميكــن‬ ‫أن تتحقــق لــو كان يل شــخص آخــر يف كــون مــوازاي‬ ‫حيققهــا بـ ً‬ ‫ـدل عــي‪ .‬انتبهــت لــه مــرة ثانيــة عندمــا كان‬ ‫يذكــر خالــه املقيــم يف الســعودية الــذي ســاعده يف‬ ‫رشاء التــوك تــوك سـ ً‬ ‫ـابقا‪ ،‬ووصــل القطــار وافرتقنــا‬ ‫يف الزحــام‪ ،‬وأنــا احمــل منــه حكايــة مختــرة كاملــة‬ ‫التفاصيــل‪.‬‬ ‫يف أثنــاء انشــغايل بالتفكــر خبطــة تــرك‬ ‫ ‬ ‫التدخــن وكانــت حينهــا املــرة اإل ثــى عــر تقري ًبــا‬ ‫ولكــن اليــوم قــد جتــاوز عــدد ُمحــاواليت لــرك التدخــن‬ ‫رقــم ال أعرفــه‪ -‬لكنــه عــدد ضخــم مــن املحــاوالت‪.-‬‬ ‫جلــس بالكــريس الــذي أمامــي شــخص ثالثيــي ويف‬

‫"هكــذا كان روتيــي الــدامئ يف رحــات القطــار‪،‬‬ ‫حكايــات وتأمــات عابــرة لهــا طعــم الرمــادي"‬ ‫أثنــاء جلــويس أمامــه ُممسـ ًـكا بســيجاريت ألتهمهــا‬ ‫فمــه ســيجارة مــن نــوع الســجائر الــذي ُأفضلــه‪ ،‬إهنــا‬ ‫رسيعً ــا‪ ،‬وأنظــر لــه وهــو ُيدخــن ســيجارته ببطــئ شــديد‪،‬‬ ‫لعنــة قطــار الشــعب‪ ،‬حينهــا ال أعــرف اليــوم هــل‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫و لوهلــة ظننــت إنــه ُممسـ ًـكا هبــا ُمشــتعل ًة فقــط‪ ،‬مــا‬ ‫احلــال تغــر أم ال! ألين بعــد فــرة ليســت بالقصــرة‬ ‫جــاء يف خاطــري حينهــا ســؤالٌ وحيـ ٌـد‪ ،‬هــل إنــه يســر‬ ‫مــن اســتقاليل لذلــك القطــار‪ ،‬التحقــت بعمــل أثنــاء‬ ‫بإســراتيجية عــدد أنفــاس أقــل لــن يقتلــي رسيعً ــا؟ أم‬ ‫الدراســة واســتطعت أن أركــب القطــار حيــث مــن‬ ‫إنــه أحــرق ســجائر كثــرة اليــوم وحبكــم العــادة أشــعلها‬ ‫غــر املســموح أن ُيدخــن أحدهــم يف وجهك‪.‬قــدم يل‬ ‫ســيجارة يف مرتــه الثانيــة واألخــرة الــي مل أشــعر بعدهــا وال يســتطيع أن ُ‬ ‫يكملهــا؟ أثنــاء قــراءة خواطــري بعــد‬ ‫مــن مضايقــة ُ‬ ‫فــرة مــن الوقــت‪ ،‬أيقنــت أنــي ُكنــت أشــعل حماســة‬ ‫الدخــان ألنــي وافقــت‪ ،‬ويف املحطــة‬ ‫الطر يــق والرجــل يف األغلــب كان شــارد الذهــن ليــس‬ ‫التاليــة الــي توقــف فيهــا القطــار لبضــع دقائــق قليلــة‬ ‫أكــر‪ .‬وأدركــت حينهــا أن حكايــات القطــار ال تنتهــي‬ ‫نزلــت وابتعــت علبــة ســجائر‪ ،‬وقدمــت لــه ســيجارة‬ ‫ً‬ ‫أبدا‪.‬‬ ‫وأصبحنــا صديقــن ملــدة ســاعة وربــع نتحــدث يف‬ ‫أشــياء ليســت ُمرتابطــة ونقــدم لبعــض الســجائر‪.‬‬ ‫هكــذا كان روتيــي الــدامئ يف رحــات القطــار‪ ،‬حكايــات‬ ‫وتأمــات عابــرة لهــا طعــم الرمــادي‪ ،‬كالرجــل الســتيين‬

‫ظللــت أرفــض الذهــاب لطبيــب نفــي؛ ألن مشــكليت‬ ‫ليــس لهــا حــل باإلضافــة إىل أنــي لســت مكتئ ًبــا‪ .‬بعــد‬ ‫يومــن أخــذين أيب بالقــوة للطبيــب لكــي رفضــت‬ ‫التحــدث معــه‪ .‬تشــخيصه كان اكتئا ًبــا حـ ً‬ ‫ـادا‪ .‬و لكــن‬ ‫ظلــت إجابــة أيب أنــي أفتعــل وأتصنــع االكتئــاب‪ .‬يف‬ ‫طريقنــا للمــزل قــال يل أيب‪" :‬هعمــل نفــي مصــدق‬ ‫إنــك مكتئــب‪ .‬بطــل ّ‬ ‫تنشــف دماغــك وحــاول بضمــر‬ ‫إنــك تبقــى طبيعــي مــش كل يــوم والتــاين تطلــع لنــا‬ ‫حباجة‪".‬‬

‫دخلــت إىل غرفــي حاملــا وصلنــا البيــت‪ .‬أشــعر باحلــزن‬ ‫والغضــب بالوقــت ذاتــه‪ .‬ال ميكــن إرضاؤهــم جبميــع‬ ‫األحــوال‪ .‬ر مبــا إذا فقــدوين فسيشــعروا بقيمــي يف‬ ‫حياهتــم‪ .‬ظللــت ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫غارقــا يف أفــكاري املعتمــة‬ ‫وخائفــا ممــا‬ ‫قــد أفعلــه بنفــى‪ .‬أحبــث وأفكــر مــا هــو قضــايئ؟ هــل‬ ‫أســتحق هــذا النــوع مــن احليــاة؟ خرجــت مــن غرفــي‬ ‫مندفعً ــا حنــو أيب و أمــي وأخــي ســائر وهــم جالســون‬ ‫مســتمتعون حبوارهــم عمــا حــدث عنــد الطبيــب‪.‬‬ ‫رصخــت بوجههــم‪:‬‬ ‫ "أنتــم يف إيــه جبــد؟ إيــه كــم الكــره ده؟ هههــه؟‬‫عملــت إيــه لــكل ده؟ أنــا مــش عايــز فلوســكم وال‬ ‫احلاجــات إ لــي بتجبوهــايل‪ .‬كل الــي كنــت عايــزه‬ ‫حبكــم ليــا‪ .‬بتاخــدوا يلَّ كل قــرارايت وتقعــدوا تزقــوا يفَّ‬ ‫عشــان أبقــى مثــايل‪ .‬أحــب أقولكــم مفاجــأة‪ ،‬مفيــش‬ ‫حــد مثــايل حــى أنتــم‪ .‬أنــا بــس عايــز أعــرف إيــه االجــرام‬ ‫إ لــي عملتــه عشــان احليــاة تبقــى كــده؟ كل يــوم شــايف‬ ‫عيونكــم مليانــة لــوم وامشــزاز مــي‪ .‬يــا ر يــت حــد يــرد‬ ‫عيل‪".‬‬ ‫ "عــى طــول مســتهرت كالعــادة أنــت مفيــش فايــدة‬‫فيــك" أجــاب أيب بانفعــال‪.‬‬

‫"أعتقد أنـكم تتسائلون‬ ‫عن أحوايل و أوضاعي‬ ‫اآلن‪ .‬واإلجابة ال‪ .‬مل‬ ‫أحاول االنتحار واملوت‪.‬‬ ‫بعد تفكري عميق وجدت‬ ‫أنين بالفعل مكتئب‬ ‫وأحتاج للمساعدة ‪".‬‬ ‫ "مســتهرت يف إيــه مــش فاهــم؟ عــى األقــل يعتمــد‬‫عــيَّ‪ .‬عنــده إيــه ســائر مــش عنــدي؟" قلتهــا بصــوت‬ ‫مرتعــش‪.‬‬ ‫ "ســائر مــزن عنــك عــى األقــل متســببش يف مــوت‬‫جــدك‪ ".‬أجابتــي أمــي باكيــة‪.‬‬ ‫ "إيــه؟ بتقــويل إيــه؟ تقصــدي إين قتلــت ‪ "...‬مل أســتطع‬‫إكمــال اجلملــة‪" .‬أنــا إيــه عالقــي بالــي حصــل؟ مــش‬ ‫أنتــم قولتــوا أنــه مــات يف حادثــة عربيــة؟" قلتهــا وأنــا‬ ‫خائــف مــن اإلجابــة‪.‬‬ ‫ "وأنــت عنــدك َ َ‬‫"تـ ْـن" ســنني كان جــدك بيعــدي‬ ‫الشــارع وماســك إيــدك وأنــت ســبت إيــده وجر يــت‬ ‫عشــان كنــت مســتهرت مــن وأنــت صغــر فــكان يف‬ ‫عربيــة هتخبطــك وهــو بيحــاول يلحقــك اختبــط هــو‬ ‫ومــات‪ .‬أيــوة مــات بســببك‪ ".‬أجابــي أيب بانزعــاج وعــى‬ ‫وجهــه درجــات مــن اللــوم والغضــب مــي‪.‬‬ ‫ "كل الســنني دي وأنــا مــش فاهــم بتعاقبــوين عــى‬‫إيــه‪ .‬شــايف ىف عيونكــم اللــوم واألىس مــن وجــودي‬

‫تركــت املــزل ووجــدت عمـ ًـا مؤق ًتــا حــى أختــرج؛‬ ‫لــي أتكفــل بنفــي ومصاريفــي‪ .‬أدرك أهــي مــا‬ ‫فعلــوه وأدركــوا قيمــي يف حياهتــم‪ .‬مــا زا لــوا حياولــون‬ ‫اســرجاعي‪ .‬لكــن مســامحيت لهــم ستســتغرق أطــول‬ ‫ممــا توقعــت‪ .‬لــكل شــخص مكتئــب‪ :‬أنــت لســت‬ ‫وحيـ ًـدا وميكنــك دا ًمئــا طلــب املســاعدة‪.‬‬

‫ـرا‪ ،‬عرفــت رس معانــايت خــال الفــرة األخــرة‪ .‬بعــد عميــق ال هنايــة لــه‪ .‬قــررت االنعــزال قليـ ًـا عــن كل يشء‬ ‫أخـ ً‬ ‫كل مــا عانيتــه مــن أوجــاع وإخفاقــات ظننــت دا ًمئــا أنــي لعــل ذلــك يقلــل هــذا االنتبــاه حنــوي‪ .‬دا ًمئــا مــا كنــت‬ ‫الســبب يف كل مشــكلة أو جــدال‪ .‬ظننــت أنــي لســت أشــعر بالوحــدة حــى وأنــا حــول أصدقــايئ‪ .‬كأنــي غر يــب‬ ‫كاف ًيــا ألهــي وأصدقــايئ‪ .‬ظننــت أنــي لــن أســتطيع‬ ‫وســط أنــاس ال أعرفهــم وأشــعر أنــي تائــه‪.‬‬ ‫التحكــم حبيــايت وقــرراىت‪ .‬نصحــي طبيــي النفــي بــأن‬ ‫أكتــب كل مــا حــدث يل مــن ســلبيات يف ورقــة مبــا أنــي أشــعر أنــي أجلــس يف وســط جمهــور مراق ًبــا حيــايت‬ ‫أرفــض التكلــم معــه؛ ر مبــا يســاعدين عــى اخلــروج مــن‬ ‫مــن بعيــد‪ .‬ال ميكنــي حتمــل هــذه احليــاة وضغوطاهتــا‪.‬‬ ‫دور االكتئــاب ولكنــي لســت مقتنعً ــا أنــي مكتئــب‪.‬‬ ‫بــدأت أختلــق حجــج فارغــة لعــدم مقابلــة أي شــخص‪.‬‬ ‫أحــاول االبتعــاد عــن اجلميــع حــى نفــي‪ .‬ال أطيــق‬ ‫أخرجــت مــن حقيبــي ورقــة وقلــم وقــررت كتابــة مــا‬ ‫رؤ يــة انعــكايس يف املــرآة لشــدة غضــي مــن نفــي ومــن‬ ‫حــدث يل والــر الــذي دمــر حيــايت بأكملهــا‪.‬‬ ‫حيــاىت‪ .‬أنــا لســت جيـ ًـدا مبــا فيــه الكفايــة ألســتحق هــذه‬ ‫يومــا بعــد يــوم عــى يشء أجهلــه‪.‬‬ ‫احليــاة‪ .‬ألــوم نفــي ً‬ ‫أنــا مجــرد شــاب يف أوائــل العرشينيــات‪ ،‬أعيــش مــع‬ ‫مــا رس بقــايئ يف هــذه احليــاة؟ ال ميكنــي حــى أخــذ‬ ‫أمــي و أيب وأخــي الــذي يصغــرين بعامــن‪ .‬أمتلــك كل قــرارايت الشــخصية؛ ســيجربين أيب عــى قــرار مختلــف‬ ‫يشء يتمنــاه أي شــاب يف عمــري‪ .‬عائلــي ســعيدة‬ ‫ألنــه ال أمــل يفَّ‪ .‬ظللــت أحــاول الهــروب مــن واقعــي‬ ‫وبأحســن صحــة‪ ،‬حالتنــا املاديــة جيــدة ولــدي أصدقــاء املشــؤوم‪ .‬جربــت أنــواع مختلفــة مــن احلبــوب لتخفــف‬ ‫مقربــون‪ .‬لكــن دا ًمئــا مــا كنــت أشــعر أن هنالــك‬ ‫مــن أملــي أو لــي أفقــد هــذا اإلحســاس املــؤمل ولــو‬ ‫ناقصــا يف حيــايت ومل أصــل أبـ ًـدا إلجابــة‪ .‬هــل‬ ‫يومــا بعــد‬ ‫شــي ًئا ً‬ ‫للحظــة واحــدة‪ .‬ظللــت آخــذ جرعــة أكــر ً‬ ‫أنــا مجنــون؟ هــل أســخط عــى حيــاة يتمناهــا أي‬ ‫يــوم؛ ففــي األول واألخــر هــذا هــو القــرار الوحيــد‬ ‫شخص؟‬ ‫الــذي ميكنــي اختــاذه‪ .‬أشــعر بالقــوة عنــد تنــاويل إياهــا‪،‬‬ ‫يومــا بعــد‬ ‫أشــعر أنــي أســرجع الســيطرة عــى حيــايت ً‬ ‫مل أعــد أعــرف أي يشء‪ .‬لكــن مــا أعرفــه جيـ ًـدا‬ ‫يــوم‪ .‬ظللــت أفقــد إحســايس بالوقــت حــى أدرك أيب‬ ‫محــاوالت أيب املضنيــة أل كــون مثال ًيــا بطريقــة غــر‬ ‫أنــي لســت خبــر‪ .‬اقتحــم غرفــي بعنــف وهــو يــرخ يف‬ ‫محتملــة‪.‬‬ ‫وجهــي قائـ ًـا‪:‬‬ ‫ "أنــت إيــه إلــي أنــت بتهببــه يف حياتــك ده‪ .‬قاعــد‬‫ "يــا مصطفــى كنــت متوقــع منــك درجــات أحســن‬‫عــى طــول يف األوضــة وال بتتكلــم مــع حــد وال بتشــوف‬ ‫مــن كــده‪ ،‬حقيقــي خيبــت أمــي فيــك‪ .‬إمــى تركــز كــده حــد‪ .‬بتحــاول تلفــت االنتبــاه يعــي وتعمــي فيهــا‬ ‫و تبقــى زي أخــوك الصغــر؟ حقيقــي مفيــش حاجــة‬ ‫مكتئــب؟"‬ ‫بتطمــر فيــك‪".‬‬ ‫ "يــاااااه أنــت لســة فاكــرين؟ روح شــوف ســائر بــس‬‫ظللــت أفكــر يف كلماتــه يل واســتيائه الــدامئ؛ مهمــا‬ ‫تالقيــه كــر عربيتــه يف حادثــة جديــدة" رددت‬ ‫فعلــت مل يكــن كاف ًيــا بالنســبة لــه‪ .‬مل أتوقــف عــن‬ ‫ضاحـ ًـكا و باســتخفاف‪.‬‬ ‫محــاواليت املســتميتة لكســب حبــه يل وإرضائــه‪ .‬لكــن‬ ‫مل تنجــح أي محاولــة؛ حــى أمــي كانــت دا ًمئــا مــا تأخــذ‬ ‫ "أمــا أنــت حقيقــي ولــد قليــل األدب‪ ،‬مفيــش تربيــة‬‫صفــه‪ .‬ال أفهــم مــا الــذي ينقصــي لكنــه موجــود عنــد‬ ‫طمــرت‪ ".‬قالهــا وهــو مــا زال يــرخ يف وجهــي‪.‬‬ ‫ـتهرتا‬ ‫ســائر أخــي الصغــر‪ .‬ســائر دا ًمئــا مــا يكــون مسـ ً‬ ‫وليــس مجتهـ ًـدا يف الدراســة مثــي واليعتمــد عليــه‬ ‫ "أنــت لســه واقــف؟ روح شــوف ســائر يــا‪ .‬إجــري‬‫يومــا اشــري لــه عربيــة بــدل إلــي كرسهــا‪ ".‬قلتهــا وأنــا أدفعــه‬ ‫أبـ ًـدا‪ .‬كــم الضغــط والدفــع والرتكــز الــدامئ يدمــرين ً‬ ‫بعــد يــوم‪ .‬أشــعر أنــي أختنــق وكأين أغــرق يف محيــط‬ ‫خــارج غرفــي‪ ،‬مث مسعــت رصخاتــه عــى أمــي مــن‬

‫بــه جيعــل كل مــا نــراه ضبا ًبــا‪ .‬ال تصبــح الرؤ يــة جيــدة‬ ‫فيصبــح مــا بداخلنــا ليــس جيـ ًـدا أبـ ًـدا‪ .‬ليــس فقــط مــن‬ ‫ضغوطــات احليــاة الــى نتعــرض لهــا‪ ،‬بــل مــن اخلــوف‬ ‫الــدامئ واحلــزن الهائــل‪ .‬خنــى كل يشء‪ .‬خنــى أال حيبنــا‬ ‫أحــد أو يتقبلنــا كمــا حنــن‪ ،‬وخنــى املــوت دون أن‬ ‫يتذكرنــا أحــد‪.‬‬ ‫كل ذلــك يصنــع طبقــات مــن الهــم واحلــزن واخلــوف‬ ‫بداخلنــا‪ .‬يصبــح قلبنــا مهرت ًئــا وبال ًيــا كثــوب قــدمي ال‬ ‫نرتديــه و ال يقــرب منــه أحــد‪ ،‬ويف هــذه احلالــة‪ ،‬ال‬ ‫يقــرب أحـ ٌـد مــن قلبنــا املهمــل واحلز يــن؛ فالبــر ال‬ ‫حيبــون احلــزن ويبتعــدون عنــه‪.‬‬

‫كيــف حالــك؟ ســؤالٌ تقليــديٌ نبــدأ بــه احلديــث وال أحــد‬ ‫فينــا ميــي أو يصبــح دامئــا خبــر‪ .‬كلنــا حاملــون للهــم‬ ‫واحلــزن والغضــب بدرجــة مــا ملــا نتعــرض لــه ىف حياتنــا‪،‬‬ ‫وملــا تفعلــه فينــا احليــاة مــن أىس وظلــم‪ .‬بداخلنــا بـ ٌ‬ ‫ـركان‬ ‫أو نــا ٌر ال تنطفــئ‪ .‬بداخلنــا جــروحٌ مل ولــن تندمــل أبـ ًـدا‪.‬‬ ‫آالم كأننــا نــزف مــن قلبنــا فيختلــط دمــاء‬ ‫بداخلنــا ٌ‬ ‫الزن يــف مــع ضــخ ا لــدم العــادى‪ ،‬ويســر الزن يــف إىل‬ ‫كل خليــة ونســيج فيتــأمل كل جــزء يف جســمنا‪ .‬ومــع‬ ‫ذلــك‪ ،‬تظهــر ابتســامة المعــة؛ فيعتقــد البعــض أننــا خبــر‬ ‫وســنصبح دا ًمئــا خبــر‪.‬‬

‫أحيا ًنــا نتعــرض لضغوطــات كثــرة ىف حياتنــا جتعلنــا‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫وهشــا ال‬ ‫ضعيفــا‬ ‫نضعــف أو مبعــى أصــح جتعــل قلبنــا‬ ‫يتحمــل أى ىشء‪ .‬نشــعر أن هنــاك شــي ًئا ثقيـ ًـا عــى‬ ‫يشء‬ ‫قلوبنــا مثــل الصخــر‪ ،‬شــي ًئا جيعلنــا نكتــم كل‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫بداخلنــا‪ .‬نشــعر أن احليــاة ســوداء فقــط؛ اللــون القــامت‪.‬‬ ‫يقــول البعــض أن احليــاة ليســت ناصعــة البيــاض فقــط‬ ‫أو شــديدة الســواد فقــط‪ ،‬ولكنهــا درجــات مــن جميــع‬ ‫األ لــوان‪ .‬لكــن ىف حــال تعرضنــا للضعوطــات‪ ،‬حنــن‬ ‫ال نقــرب حــى مــن اللــون الرمــادى‪ .‬و مــع أن مــن‬ ‫يرتــدي األســودَ يصبــح ً‬ ‫أنيقــا وجذا ًبــا‪ ،‬إال أن مــا نشــعر‬

‫ومــع كل ذلــك املــزجي مــن املشــاعر‪ُ ،‬نظهــر ابتســامة‬ ‫رقيقــة تلــون وجهنــا‪ .‬خنتــار الوجــه البشــوش املصطنــع؛‬ ‫ألننــا خنــى أن أحـ ًـدا ال يفهمنــا وال يشــعر بنفــس‬ ‫آالمنــا‪ .‬خنــاف أن نواجــه البــر مبــا خنبئــه ؛ ألن ذلــك‬ ‫يظهــر ضعفنــا أمــام البــر‪ .‬يظهــر حقيقتنــا املتوار يــة‬ ‫عــن األنظــار‪ .‬رغــم االبتســامة الــى جتعــل وجهَ نــا‬ ‫المعــا‪ ،‬فمــن يدقــق النظــر إلينــا ســيعرف املتــواري وراء‬ ‫العينــن‪ .‬أحيا ًنــا‪ ،‬بــل ىف معظــم األحيــان‪ ،‬نظهــر عكــس‬ ‫مــا نشــعر بــه ألننــا نشــعر أن اجلميــع ال حيبــون احلــزن و‬ ‫يفضلــون مــن يضحــك و يــرمس عــى شــفتيه ابتســامة‬ ‫مبهجــة‪ .‬ال أحــد سيشــعر مبــا بداخلنــا أو ســيقدره ‪،‬‬ ‫بــل بالعكــس سـ ِّ‬ ‫ـيتفه مــن شــأن األمــر وســيقول أننــا‬ ‫ضعفــاء وأن الشــخص مرهــف اإلحســاس‪ .‬ر مبــا أحيا ًنــا‬

‫يكــون كذلــك‪ ،‬ولكــن مــا أجمــل لــن القلــب!‬ ‫كل هــذه املشــاعر تــرك تراكمــات ىف قلوبنــا املحطمــة‪،‬‬ ‫املكسـ ّـوة براحئــة اخلــوف والقلــق‬ ‫املهرتئــة‪ ،‬والباليــة؛‬ ‫ُ‬ ‫املســتمر‪ .‬مــا ينتــج عــن هــذه املشــاعر املرتاكمــة هــو‬ ‫املــرض‪ .‬يصيبنــا مــرض القلــق الــدامئ واالكتئــاب احلــاد‬ ‫وأحيا ًنــا يصــل إىل متــي املــوت؛ ألننــا ال نــرى ىف احليــاة‬ ‫ســوى اجلانــب املظلــم والر يــاح املغيمــة الــي تعــذر‬ ‫الرؤ يــة‪ .‬أتعــرف ملــاذا كل ذلــك؟ ألننــا ال نأمــن احلديــث‬ ‫عــن أنفســنا مــع أحــد ‪ ،‬ال نتحــدث مــع غــر أنفســنا‬ ‫ومــع دموعنــا الــى تــرك آثـ ًـارا عــى فراشــنا‪ ،‬ومــع كل‬ ‫دمعــة تــزل‪ ،‬ميــوت جــز ًءا منــا‪ .‬هــل عرفــت كيــف‬ ‫حالك؟‬ ‫ال أحــد يعــرف كيــف حالــك ‪ ،‬حــى أنــت‪ .‬أنــت عــى‬ ‫عكــس كل مــا ترتبــه و تقيســه باملســطرة وعكــس كل‬ ‫توقعاتــك‪ .‬احليــاة ليســت منظمــة كمــا ختطــط لهــا‪.‬‬ ‫عقلــك نفســه يــكاد أن ينفجــر مــن كــرة التفكــر فيمــا‬ ‫حــدث ومــا ســيحدث‪ .‬فلذلــك ينعكــس كل مــا حيــدث‬ ‫بداخــل عقلــك عــى قلبــك‪ .‬مــا تفكــر فيــه هــو مــا تشــعره‬ ‫بــه‪ ،‬ومــا تشــعره بــه هــو املختــئ وراء عينيــك ا لــي‬ ‫تلمــع دموعهــا ىف حجرتــك الصغــرة‪ ،‬عندمــا ينفجــر‬ ‫كل مــا حتملــه وحتســه‪ ،‬ذلــك الــذي ال يعــرف عنــه أى‬ ‫أحـ ٍـد عــى هــذا الكوكــب‪ .‬فــا تندمــل جــروح قلبــك‪،‬‬ ‫ومتــرض خاليــا قلبــك املهمــوم‪ ،‬وال متــي أو تصبــح خبــر‪.‬‬

‫املوجــود يف مــر‪ .‬مــر أصـ ًـا ليــس امللجــأ الوحيــد‪،‬‬ ‫احلــرب‪ ،‬هتلــر بــدأ يفقــد صوابــه‪ ،‬كان كاإلعصــار الهــاجئ‪،‬‬ ‫البعــض منــا ســافروا إىل األرجنتــن مثـ ًـا وإىل بقــاع‬ ‫ـدوا أو حبي ًبــا‪.‬‬ ‫جيتــاح كل مــن يعــرض طريقــه؛ عـ ً‬ ‫أخــرى مــن العــامل‪ .‬أضــف إىل ذلــك أن موعــد وصــويل‬ ‫إذا وقفــت يف وجــه رغبتــه ســينتهي أمــرك‪ .‬ا لــكل‬ ‫إىل مــر يــي بغــرض الوصــول‪ ،‬وبالتــايل يــي هبو يــي؛ كان خيضــع لألوامــر ومل أجــرؤ أنــا أو أي أحــد عــى‬ ‫لذلــك كان مــن املهــم تغيــر امســي وديانــي‪.‬‬ ‫االعــراض‪ .‬حتولــت مــع الوقــت مــن مبتكــر يذهــب كل‬ ‫س‪ /‬أنــا ً‬ ‫حقــا ال أصــدق مــا أمسعــه‪ ،‬كيــف ميكــن لعــدد‬ ‫يــوم إىل عملــه بشــغف ولهفــة إىل جــاد ينهــي حيــاة‬ ‫مــن مجرمــي احلــرب االختبــاء يف دول أخــرى دون أن عــرات األشــخاص يوم ًيــا بــا هــدف‪ .‬طبعــا كل هــذا‬ ‫يتعقبهــم أحــد؟‬ ‫ال يعفيــي مــن املســؤولية‪ ،‬ليــس هــذا الغــرض مــن‬ ‫ج‪ /‬ألننــا لســنا مجــرد جنــود ننفــذ األوامــر‪ ،‬قيمتنــا‬ ‫ترصحيــايت‪ .‬أنــا قتلــت املئــات مــن اليهــود‪ ،‬لكنــي أحــاول‬ ‫أكــر مــن ذلــك بكثــر‪ .‬حنــن خــراء يف مجاالتنــا‪ .‬أنــا‬ ‫فقــط أن أرمس لــك صــورة عــن حيــايت يف املعســكرات‪.‬‬ ‫وزمــايئ اســتطعنا أن حنــول أملانيــا إىل قــوة عظمــى‪.‬‬ ‫س‪ /‬إذا مــا الغــرض مــن حتدثــك اآلن؟ أنــت ال تر يــد‬ ‫لذلــك ليــس غري ًبــا أن تلهــث ورائنــا حكومــات دول‬ ‫الدفــاع عــن نفســك‪ ،‬بالعكــس حديثــك اآلن يعرضــك‬ ‫أخــرى لالســتفادة مــن خرباتنــا‪ ،‬وليــس صع ًبــا علينــا‬ ‫للخطــر‪ ،‬ملــاذا التحــدث إذا؟‬ ‫مباغتــة املتعقبــن‪.‬‬ ‫ج‪ /‬أنــا عشــت يف مــر ملــدة طويلــة‪ ،‬ومعظــم الســنني‬ ‫س‪" /‬مصائــب قــوم عنــد قــوم فوائــد"‪ .‬حسـنًا أنــا لــدي الــي قضيتهــا يف مــر كنــت وحيـ ًـدا‪ ،‬وعندمــا تكــون‬ ‫العديــد مــن األســئلة لــك‪ .‬لنبــدأ بوجــودك يف أملانيــا‪،‬‬ ‫وحــدك ال يوجــد مهــرب مــن التفكــر باملــايض‪ .‬احلقيقــة‬ ‫ـرا يف مــا ســأقوله لــك اآلن‪ ،‬وأنــا أعــرف‬ ‫كيــف كانــت تلــك التجربــة‪ ،‬أن تكــون يف "اإلس إس"؟ أنــي فكــرت كثـ ً‬ ‫ج‪ /‬إذا كنــت مــن محــي كــرة القــدم ســتفهم مــا‬ ‫أنــه قــد جيعلــي أكــر رجــل مكــروه يف العــامل‪ .‬الســبب‬ ‫ســأقوله‪ .‬ختيــل أن لديــك دوري مكــون مــن عــدة فــرق‪ ،‬احلقيقــي لتحــديث اآلن هــو أنــي مل أعــد أهتــم بنظــرة‬ ‫وكل فر يــق ميتلــك العبــن ممزي يــن‪ ،‬ولكنــه ً‬ ‫أيضــا ميتلــك العــامل يل وجلرامئــي‪ .‬عــى العكــس‪ ،‬أنــا أحتقــر كل مــن‬ ‫العبــن أقــل يف املســتوى مــن الالعبــن املمزي يــن‪ .‬اآلن حيكــم عــيَّ‪ ،‬أتعلــم ملــا؟ ألنــي فريســة هسلــة‪ ،‬جر ميــي‬ ‫ختيــل معــي أننــا أخذنــا أفضــل الالعبــن يف كل املراكــز‪ ،‬معروفــة للجميــع ودولــي مكروهــة مــن اجلميــع‪ ،‬لــذا‬ ‫مــن حراســة املرمــى وحــى خــط الهجــوم‪ ،‬ووضعناهــم مــن الســهل احلكــم عــيَّ ووصفــي بأبشــع األوصــاف‪.‬‬ ‫يف فر يــق واحــد ال يقهــر‪ .‬هكــذا شــعرت عندمــا عملــت بينمــا يف احلقيقــة‪ ،‬كل دول العــامل بــا اســتثناء‬ ‫يف عهــد هتلــر‪ .‬كان هــو مبثابــة املــدرب الــذي يؤمــن‬ ‫متتلــك أجهــزة مخابــرات تقــوم بنفــس مــا كنــت أقــوم‬ ‫بقــدرات ذلــك الفر يــق‪ ،‬وكان حيــاول أن خيــرج كل مــا‬ ‫بــه وأكــر‪ ،‬ولكنهــا ال تتعــرض لالنتقــاد ألن جرامئهــم‬ ‫لدينــا لنهــزم الفــرق الفــرق األخــرى؛ ألنــه ببســاطة كان يتــم التســر عليهــا‪ .‬اليهــود الذيــن كنــت أقتلهــم هــم‬ ‫يؤمــن بأننــا أفضــل مــن الباقــن‪ ،‬وحنــن بالفعــل كنــا‬ ‫نفــس الشــعب الــذي يرتكــب مجــازر يف فلســطني‪،‬‬ ‫أفضــل منهــم‪.‬‬ ‫لكــن ال أحــد ميكنــه أن يوجــه أي أصابــع اهتامــات؛ ألن‬ ‫س‪ /‬إذا ميكننــا القــول أنــك كنــت ســعيد؟‬ ‫إرسائيــل دولــة "صديقــة" وتتمتــع برشعيــة دوليــة!‬ ‫ج‪ /‬يف البدايــة‪ ،‬نعــم كنــت يف غايــة الســعادة‪ .‬لــدي‬ ‫أتالحــظ التناقــض؟ لهــذا أنــا ال أهتــم مبــا يقولــه النــاس‬ ‫منصــب مهــم يف الدولــة ومكانــة كبــرة يف املجتمــع‪ .‬أنــا عــي‪ .‬نعــم أنــا مجــرم حــرب وكذلــك أنتــم! الفــرق بيــي‬ ‫ً‬ ‫أحببــت عمــي‪ ،‬ويف عهــد هتلــر‪ ،‬إذا كنــت أملانيــا جتيــد‬ ‫منافقــا وأعــرف جبرمــي‪ ،‬بينمــا‬ ‫وبينكــم هــو أنــي لســت‬ ‫عملــك فســتجد التقديــر الــذي تســتحقه؛ هــذا هــو‬ ‫ـررا الرتــكاب جرامئكــم‪.‬‬ ‫أنتــم تتخــذون الفضيلــة مـ ً‬ ‫احللــم‪ ،‬أن تعمــل لرفعــة بــادك وأن تقــدر بــادك مــا‬ ‫س‪ /‬حســنا‪ ،‬أعتقــد أنــي لــدي مــا يكفــي لنــر احلــوار‪.‬‬ ‫تضيفــه لهــا‪ ،‬أال توافقــي؟‬ ‫د‪ /‬طــارق أشــكرك عــى وقتــك‪.‬‬ ‫س‪ /‬نعــم أوافقــك‪ ،‬ولكنــك قلــت أنــك كنــت ســعيدا يف ج‪ /‬أســتطيع أن أشــعر حبكمــك عــي واحتقــارك يل‬ ‫البدايــة فقــط‪ ،‬مــى تغــر هــذا؟‬ ‫خلــف هــذا الــكالم املهــذب‪ .‬فلتذهــب أنــت وهــذا‬ ‫ج‪ /‬عندمــا حتولــت مــن عــامل إىل جنــدي‪ .‬مــع احتــدام‬ ‫العــامل األفــاق إىل اجلحيــم‪.‬‬

‫سي ــد َنا * وإنَّ صخـ ً‬ ‫وإنَّ صخـ ً‬ ‫ـرا َ‬ ‫إذا نـش ُت ــو‬ ‫ـرا لوالي ـنَا َو ّ‬ ‫لنح ـ ُـار‬ ‫َّ‬ ‫أي أن صخــر كان ســيدهم وموالهــم وكان كر ًميــا‪.‬‬ ‫وأخـ ً‬ ‫ـرا الوصــف فــكان الوصــف هــو أهــم موضوعاهتــم‬ ‫وفنهــم؛ فلقــد وصــف الشــاعر كل مــا وقعــت عليــه مــن‬ ‫مظاهــر البيئــة حيــث وصــف فرســه ووصــف ناقتــه‬ ‫ووصــف احلــرب وكان الوصــف يتخلــل قصائــد العــرب‬ ‫–كاحلكمــة‪ -‬أي أنــه مل يكــن لــه قصائــد منفــردة وكان‬ ‫امــرئ القيــس بار ًعــا يف الوصــف براعــة فائقــة كقولــه يف‬ ‫معلقتــه لوصــف فرســه بالرسعــة‪-:‬‬ ‫َ‬ ‫قبـ ٍـل ُم ْدبِــر‬ ‫ِمكـ ٍّـر ِمفـ ٍّـر ُم ِ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫ـيل مــن عــل‬ ‫معً ــا * ُ‬ ‫حطــه السـ ُ‬ ‫ـود صخـ ٍـر ّ‬ ‫كجلمـ ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫أمــا عــن ممــزات لغتهــم فمــن "الناحيــة املعنو يــة"‬ ‫اتســمت بالبســاطة وعــدم التعقيــد واإلغــراق يف‬ ‫األخيلــة‪ ،‬والبعــد عــن اســتخدام الرمــوز والتعقيــد‪،‬‬ ‫والبعــد عــن املبالغــات‪ ،‬ومتــزوا بالصــدق يف التعبــر‬ ‫عــن مشــاعرهم فكانــوا ال خيفــون مشــاعرهم وال‬ ‫يزيفوهنــا‪.‬‬ ‫أمــا مــن اجلانــب اللفظــي فتمــزوا باإلجيــاز والبعــد عــن‬

‫اإلطنــاب‪ ،‬وعــدم التكلــف‪ ،‬ور مبــا ألفاظهــم كان هبــا‬ ‫يشء مــن الصعوبــة و الغرابــة‪.‬‬ ‫ نعــم‪ ،‬كان هبــا مــن الصعوبــة والغرابــة؛ هــي غريبــة‬‫علينــا؛ ومل تكــن غريبــة عــي اجلاهليــن وذلــك بســبب‬ ‫طبيعتهــم؛ ولكــن مــع نــزول القــرآن الكــرمي تغــرت‬ ‫أســاليبها وأصبحــت اللغــة أهســل وأكــر سالســة!‬ ‫فحدثــي عنهــا يف تلــك الفــرة‪.‬‬ ‫ نعــم أهيــا الفــى‪ ،‬لقــد نقــل اإلســام اجلاهليــة كلهــا‬‫مــن التشــتت االجتماعــي‪ ،‬والتخلــف‪ ،‬ومــن عبــادة‬ ‫الوثنيــة لعبــادة هللا ســبحانه وتعــاىل‪ ،‬ســاهم اإلســام‬ ‫ـورا كبـ ً‬ ‫يف تطــور اللغــة تطـ ً‬ ‫ـرا حيــث نقلهــا إيل العامليــة‬ ‫بعــد أن كانــت محــارصة يف شــبه اجلز يــرة العربيــة‪،‬‬ ‫حيــث خــرج املســلمون بكتــاب هللا ا لــذي نــزل‬ ‫بلغتهــم‪ ،‬ومعهــم حكمهــم‪ ،‬وخطبهــم‪ ،‬وأمثالهــم‬ ‫إىل فــارس‪ ،‬وا لــروم‪ ،‬ومــر‪ ،‬ومشــال إفريقيــا‪ ،‬وإىل‬ ‫األندلــس؛ ومل ميــض وقــت طو يــل حــى تفوقــت العربيــة‬ ‫عــى لغــات عريقــة مثــل الفارســية‪ ،‬والروميــة حــى أن‬ ‫الكلمــات ا لــي ترسبــت منهــم إيل العربيــة اســتطاعت‬ ‫أن تصبهــا يف قالبهــا‪ ،‬وختضــع لرتاكيبهــا الصوتيــة‬

‫والرصفيــة وهــو مــا عــرف "باملعــرب"‪.‬‬ ‫فلــوال مجــئ اإلســام النقرضــت اللغــة العربيــة حيــث‬ ‫جعلهــا لغــة عامليــة بــدال مــن كوهنــا مزنو يــة يف صحــراء‬ ‫شــبه اجلز يــرة العربيــة حيــث قــام بتوحيــد لغــة العــرب‬ ‫عــن طر يــق القــرآن الكــرمي الــذي نــزل بلغــة قر يــش‪،‬‬ ‫ألهنــا أفصــح اللغــات وأرقاهــا‪ ،‬وكمــا ذكــرت سـ ً‬ ‫ـابقا‬ ‫أن اجلاهليــة كانــت مجتمعً ــا قبل ًيــا‪ ،‬فــكان لــكل قبيلــة‬ ‫لهجــة خاصــة هبــا‪ ،‬وكانــت قر يـ ٌـش تتخــر مــن لهجــات‬ ‫العــرب الوافديــن عليهــا يف مــومس احلــج أحالهــا معــى‪،‬‬ ‫ومــع نــزول القــرآن بلغتهــم كان هــذا إعجـ ًـازا لقر يــش‬ ‫ملــا فيــه مــن بالغــة وفصاحــة‪ ،‬كمــا أن اإلســام مضــن‬ ‫للعربيــة اخللــود حيــث نســق اإلســام العبــارات‪،‬‬ ‫والصياغــات‪ ،‬وختــر أبســط األلفــاظ‪ ،‬فأصبــح الفــي‬ ‫اآلن يقــرأ القــرآن كمــا ُأنــزل‪ ،‬وحيفــظ حديــث رســول‬ ‫هللا كمــا نطقــه‪ ،‬عــى عكــس العديــد مــن اللغــات‬ ‫األخــرى الــي حيتــاج ناطقوهــا ترجمــة الكتــب القدميــة‬ ‫منهــا ملالءمــة اللغــة املعــارصة لهــم‪ ،‬لــذا يكمــن الــر‬ ‫وراء خلــود اللغــة ‪-‬بالرغــم مــن تعرهضــا لكــوارث كانــت‬ ‫كافيــة بــأن متحوهــا مــن التــارخي محـ ً‬ ‫ـوا‪ -‬إىل اإلســام؛‬ ‫نــنُ َن َّز ْل َنــا ِّ‬ ‫الذ ْكـ َـر َو إِ َّنــا َلـ ُـه‬ ‫قــال هللا تعــاىل‪ ﴿ -:‬إِ َّنــا َ ْ‬ ‫اف ُظــونَ ﴾‪.‬‬ ‫َ​َ‬ ‫ل ِ‬

‫نـ ـ ـ ــوف ـ ـ ـ ـ ــمرب ‪٢٠٢٠‬‬ ‫ال أســتطيع أن أنــى ذلــك اليــوم‪ ،‬مازلــت أرى خيالــه‬ ‫يف كل مــرة أســر فيهــا وحــدي‪ ،‬مازالــت كلماتــه‬ ‫محفــورة يف ذهــي‪ ،‬مل أعلــم مــا امســه! كان غري ًبــا عــي‬ ‫حــى دنــا مــي‪ ،‬فلمــا أيت مــن بعيــد راك ًبــا جــواده‪ ،‬كان‬ ‫ذا رأس ينطــح هبــا الســحاب مشو ًخــا‪ ،‬وصــدر واســع‬ ‫ـأت بعدهــم أعــزاء مثلهــم‪...‬‬ ‫حيمــل بداخلــه عــز قـ‬ ‫ـوم مل يـ ِ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫وعندمــا دنــا مــي ُحبــس الــكالم يف صــدري‪ ،‬وتعلقــت‬ ‫كلمــايت يف فمــي‪ ،‬وعمــت حلظــة مصــت قطعهــا قائـ َ‬ ‫ا‪-:‬‬ ‫ مــن أي قــوم الفــى؟‬‫ٍ‬ ‫ هــا؟ أنــا؟ أنــا ممــن ضاعــت هويتهــم مــذ أن اســتهانوا‬‫بلغتهــم؛ مــن محــو تارخيهــم بأيدهيــم؛ أنــا فــى وجــد‬ ‫إرث أجــداده يضيــع بــن ليلــة وضحاهــا‪ ،‬أنــا مــن‬ ‫قــوم ختلــوا عــن لغتهــم حــى الرجــل فينــا ال يعلــم عــن‬ ‫لغتــه ســوى حروفهــا! كمــا أن شــباهبا يعــزون بإجــادة‬ ‫التحــدث بغريهــا و يصفوهنــا بالقدميــة الراكــدة الــي ال‬ ‫تواكــب عرصهــا‪ .‬فمــاذا عنــك؟‬ ‫األعمــى إىل َأدَ يب َ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ـت َك ِلمــايت‬ ‫مس َعـ ْ‬ ‫وأ َ‬ ‫ أنــا َّالــذي َن َظـ َـر َ َ‬‫صـ ُـم‪ ،‬أنــا مــن الذيــن عاشــوا قبلــك‪ ،‬مــن‬ ‫َمــن بِـ ِـه َ َ‬ ‫ملــوا الكــون بأشــعارهم‪ ،‬ماتــت أجســادهم و بقيــت‬ ‫أصواهتــم محبوســة يف أشــعارهم حــي وصلــت لكــم‪،‬‬ ‫أنــا مــن بقــي منشــدا طــول الدهــر‪ ،‬لقــد عرفتمــوين‬ ‫منــذ أكــر مــن ألــف عــام‪ ،‬أخــذمت مــن حكمنــا وعربنــا‬ ‫وأمثالنــا‪ ،‬مسعتــم هجاءنــا وعلمتــم صخبنــا‪ ،‬أنــا‬ ‫الغر يــب عنــك القر يــب منــك يف زمــن أصبــح القربــاء‬ ‫غربــاء‪ ،‬أنــا العــريب؛ وأنــا هنــا أللــي نــداء أحدهــم ليعلــم‬ ‫قصــة لغتنــا‪.‬‬

‫لقــد مــرت اللغــة العربيــة بتطــورات كثــرة مــن‬ ‫العرصاجلاهــي وتلبيــة احتياجــات املجتمــع يف تلــك‬ ‫الفــرة إىل فــرة صــدر اإلســام حيــث اتســمت بتأثرهــا‬ ‫بالقــرآن الكــرمي‪ ،‬مث انتقلــت إىل العــر األمــوي والعــر‬ ‫العبــايس حيــث كان أكــر اســتخدامتها للمــدح‬ ‫املتملــق واخلطابــة‪ ،‬ولكــن مــا دام العــريب هنــا‪ ،‬ملــاذا ال‬ ‫حيدثنــا هــو عنهــا؟!‬ ‫نظــرت لــه مث قلــت‪:‬‬ ‫ أهيــا العــريب‪ ،‬لقــد وصلــي أن العــرب يف اجلاهليــة‬‫اســتخدموا اللغــة يف كل حياهتــم‪ ،‬فكيــف كان ذلــك؟‬

‫ومبــاذا اتســمت طبيعــة لغتهــم؟‬ ‫نعــم‪ ،‬كان املجتمــع اجلاهــي يتمــز بأنــه مجتمــع قبــي‬‫أي أنــه يتكــون مــن قبائــل‪ ،‬وكانــت كل قبيلــة تتمــز‬ ‫بالرتابــط الوثيــق بــن أفرادهــا‪ ،‬إذ عليهــا أن تنــر أحــد‬ ‫أفرادهــا إذا اســتنرصها‪ ..‬يقــول الشــاعر‪-:‬‬ ‫"وننــر موالنــا ونعلــم أنــه * كمــا النــاس مجــروم عليــه‬ ‫وجارم"‬ ‫كمــا أن العــرب أشــتهروا بكرمهــم فكانــوا يتســارعون‬ ‫إلطعــام الفقــراء يف فصــل الشــتاء ‪،‬قــال حــامت الطــايئ‬ ‫أهشــر كرمــاء العــرب‪-:‬‬‫ال َتسـ ُـري ِقــدري إِذا مــا َط َبخ ُتــه *عـ َـيَّ إِذا مــا‬ ‫ـرام‬ ‫َتط ُبخـ َ‬ ‫ـن َحـ ُ‬ ‫ـذاك اليفـ َ َ‬ ‫َ َ‬ ‫ـدت ال‬ ‫َو َل ِكــن‬ ‫وقــدي * ِ َ‬ ‫بـ َ َ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ـاع فأ ِ‬ ‫ـزل إِذا أوقـ ِ‬ ‫بـ ٍ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫بِ ِضام‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫هنــا يأمــر حــامت زوجتــه أال تســر قــدر الطعــام وإال‬ ‫فطعامهــا حــرام عليــه‪ ،‬وأن توقــد النــران يف كل مــكان‬ ‫ليــأيت الفقــراء طل ًبــا للطعــام‪.‬‬ ‫والعــرب اســتخدموها لوصــف اخلمــر وســاقيتها‪..‬‬ ‫يقــول عمــرو بــن كلثــوم يف مطلــع معلقتــه‪-:‬‬ ‫َ‬ ‫ـور‬ ‫ـك َف َاص َبحينــا * َوال ُتبقــي ُخمـ َ‬ ‫أال ُهـ ّـي بِ َص ِ‬ ‫حنـ ِ‬ ‫َ‬ ‫األ َ‬ ‫ندرينــا‬ ‫زد عــى ذلــك أهنــم اســتخدموها لوصــف الشــجاعة‬ ‫كقــول عنــرة بــن شــداد‪-:‬‬ ‫ويف احلــرب العــوان ولـ ُ‬ ‫ـدت‬ ‫ ‬ ‫طفـ ً‬ ‫ا * ومــن لــن املعامــع قــد سـ ُ‬ ‫ـقيت‬ ‫واســتخدموها يف الهجــاء‪ ،‬واملــدح‪ ،‬والغــزل ولعــل‬ ‫أهشــر أبيــات الغــزل ترجــع للشــنفري‪ ،‬واســتخدموها‬ ‫أيضــا يف احلكمــة وعُ ــرف عــن زهــر بــن أيب ســلمى بأنــه‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫"حكيــم الشــعراء"‪.‬‬ ‫ومــن أهــم موضوعــات العــرب كان الرثــاء‪ ،‬وأعتــروه‬ ‫عاطفــة إنســانية نبيلــة فــإذا رثــا الشــاعر أحـ ً‬ ‫ـدا كان‬ ‫رثــاؤه صادقـ َـا وينضــح باحلــزن العميــق كرثــاء اخلنثــاء‬ ‫ألخيهــا صخــر قائلــة‪:‬‬

‫نظــن أن االســتعمار قــد اهنــى ســطوته عنــد بدايــة‬ ‫اســتقالل األمــم املســتعمرة‪ .‬فهنــاك يعــرف النــاس‬ ‫مــرارة االســتعمار ومعنــاه املــؤمل‪ ،‬فقــد رأوا االضطهــاد‬ ‫تفهمــا‬ ‫بأعينهــم ونــال منهــم الظلــم‪ ،‬فيكونــون أكــر‬ ‫ً‬ ‫إلخواهنــم الذيــن مــروا بنفــس التجربــة‪ .‬لكــن احلقيقــة‬ ‫أن االســتعمار هيــئ بيئــة تثمــر فيهــا أنــواع جديــدة‬ ‫مــن العنرص يــة‪ .‬فبـ ً‬ ‫ـدل مــن طــرح املعادلــة الســهلة‪،‬‬ ‫حيــث يضطهــد املســتعمر أولئــك الذيــن ينتمــون‬ ‫للبلــد املُســتعمرة فيكــون اجلميــع سواســية يف الظلــم‪،‬‬ ‫وبينهــم كراهيــة مشــركة للمؤسســة ا لــي تظلمهــم‪،‬‬ ‫خيلــق االســتعمار املز يــد مــن الطبقــات ا لــي تفــرق‬ ‫بــن تلــك الشــعوب ويقنعهــم أن الفــوارق اجلغرافيــة‬ ‫وتدرجــات لــون البــرة تســاهم يف حتديــد أهميتهــم‬ ‫كبــر‪ .‬كيــف ال؟ وقــد ارتبــط لــون البــرة األمســر‬ ‫النقــي‪ ،‬ا لــذي اســتقى صبغتــه مــن نــور الشــمس‬ ‫وشــابه جــذع الشــجرة يف أصالتــه وعراقتــه‪ ،‬بأحــد‬ ‫أســوأ األنظمــة ا لــي مــرت عــى تــارخي البرش يــة‪ ،‬وهــي‬ ‫االســتعباد‪.‬‬

‫ولألســف‪ ،‬مل تســلم الشــعوب العربيــة مــن هــذه‬ ‫الهيمنــة الغــر مبــارشة‪ .‬فبعــد عقــود طويلــة مــن‬ ‫االســتعمار‪ ،‬وبعــد نضــال الشــعوب املختلفــة با لــروح‬ ‫وا لــدم لالســتقالل‪ ،‬يظــل كثـ ٌـر مــن العــرب يف غمامــة‬ ‫مــن التحــز والعنرص يــة ضــد ذوهيــم مــن أصحــاب‬ ‫البــرة الســمراء‪ .‬جتمــع بعــض املســميات بــن جميــع‬ ‫الذيــن مــروا بتلــك التجــارب‪ ،‬كــدول العــامل الثا لــث‬ ‫ـعورا ً‬ ‫زائفــا بالرتابــط‬ ‫وا لــدول الناميــة وا لــي تعطــي شـ ً‬ ‫بينهــم‪ .‬وجتمــع القــارة األم‪ ،‬أفريقيــا‪ ،‬بــن العديــد مــن‬ ‫ا لــدول العربيــة واألفريقيــة‪ ،‬وا لــي حيــرص شــعوهبا‬ ‫دومــا عــى رمس احلــدود الــي تفصــل بــن الكلمتــن‪،‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫فيعتــر كثـ ٌـر مــن العــرب األفارقــة أن مــا جيمعهــم‬ ‫بالقــارة هــو تصــادف جغــرايف مؤســف‪ ،‬وليــس ترابــط‬ ‫تارخيــي عميــق‪ .‬أمــا اجلنــوب فــرى الشــمال مختلــف‬ ‫وغر يــب‪ ،‬وغال ًبــا مــا تلعــب العنرص يــة ا لــي يواجههــا‬

‫ـرا‬ ‫أهــل اجلنــوب مــن إخواهنــم "العــرب" ً‬ ‫دورا كبـ ً‬ ‫يف الشــعور بعــدم االنتمــاء‪ ،‬فهــم ضيــف ثقيــل غــر‬ ‫مرغــوب فيــه‪.‬‬

‫عــى مــدار القــرن الســابق‪ ،‬ازدهــرت األفــكار املضــادة‬ ‫لألنظمــة الظاملــة‪ ،‬وحظــى املفكــرون الســود بفرصــة‬ ‫غــر مســبوقة لتكو يــن فلســفتهم اخلاصــة بالتجــارب‬ ‫األليمــة ا لــي مــروا هبــا‪ .‬تأ لــق األفارقــة األمريكيــن‪،‬‬ ‫وأسســوا العديــد مــن األفــكار الصلبــة ا لــي بنيــت‬ ‫عليهــا تلــك الفلســفة وأثــرت عــى جتربــة الســود حــول‬ ‫العــامل‪ .‬تالهــم األفارقــة الفرنســيني مــن جــزر الكار يــي‬ ‫الــي اح ُتلــت مــن فرنســا‪ ،‬كهاييــي ومارتينيــك‪ ،‬ومــا‬ ‫أنتجــت مــن كبــار املفكر يــن ك آمــي ســزار ‪Aime‬‬ ‫‪ Cesaire‬وفرانــز فانــون ‪ .Frantz Fanon‬جتربــة‬ ‫الســود يف تلــك البقــع مــن العــامل هــي مــن أقــى وأوقــع‬ ‫جتــارب االســتعباد‪ ،‬وهــو مــا يوثقونــه يف األدب والفــن‬ ‫والفلســفة‪ ،‬ومــا يربــط بينهــم يف الشــتات ا لــذي فرقهــم‬ ‫عــن القــارة األم‪ .‬املناقشــة مــا زا لــت مســتمرة وشــائكة‬ ‫عــن الروابــط ا لــي جتمــع بــن األفارقــة املشــتتني‬ ‫‪ ،African Diaspora‬وهــو مــا يطلــق عــى األفارقــة‬ ‫الذيــن ُأخــذوا غص ًبــا مــن بالدهــم وقراهــم وقبائلهــم‬ ‫األصليــة ل ُيســتعبدوا يف مــكان آخــر‪ .‬مــن الذيــن‬ ‫حيــق لهــم أن يندرجــوا حتــت هــذا املســمى؟ وهــل‬ ‫جيــب عليهــم العــودة إىل مواطنهــم األصليــة ليلتئــم‬ ‫هــذا الشــتات؟ مــا العواقــب النفســية واملجتمعيــة‬ ‫عــى تلــك األمــم املشــتتة؟ وكيــف يتصــاحل هــؤالء‬ ‫مــع أنفســهم ومــع آالمهــم‪ ،‬ومــع ماضيهــم املجهــول‬ ‫املُمحــى عمـ ًـدا مــن التــارخي؟ ومــاذا عــن عالقتهــم‬ ‫بإخواهنــم يف الــدول األفريقيــة ا لــي مت اســتعمارها؟ مــا‬ ‫الفــوارق والعوامــل املشــركة بــن جتربــة الســود داخــل‬ ‫القــارة األم وخارجهــا؟ اســتحوذت هــذه األســئلة عــى‬ ‫جــزء ال بــأس بــه مــن العلــوم اإلنســانية واالجتماعيــة‪،‬‬ ‫ونــرت كتــب ومقــاالت عديــدة مــن هــؤالء املفكر يــن‬ ‫وغريهــم لتناقــش وحتلــل تلــك األســئلة وأجوبتهــا‪.‬‬

‫ظهــرت مســميات كثــرة كتبــت خبــط عر يــض‬ ‫كعناو يــن لهــذه التجربــة حتديـ ًـدا‪ ،‬ك ‪Negritude,‬‬ ‫‪،Africanity, double consciousness‬‬ ‫وتتشــعب منهــا املز يــد مــن األفــكار والكتابــات املهمــة‪.‬‬

‫يبقــى عــى الهامــش اولئــك الذيــن ال ينتمــون كل ًيــا‬ ‫لهــذه الفئــة أو تلــك‪ ،‬فهــم "ليســوا أفارقــة مبــا فيــه‬ ‫الكفايــة"‪ ،‬ألن الثقافــة العربيــة واإلســامية تغلــب‬ ‫عــى طباعهــم وعاداهتــم‪ ،‬فيتشــاركون مــع العــرب‬ ‫اللغــة والديــن‪ ،‬ومــع األفارقــة اللــون األمســر الناضــج‬ ‫وتقاليــد تأصلــت واندمجــت يف هويتهــم‪ .‬أحتــدث‬ ‫حتديـ ًـدا عــن أهــل النوبــة ومشــال الســودان‪ .‬تقــع بــاد‬ ‫النوبــة يف اجلنــوب األقــى ملــر‪ ،‬ومتتــد جنــوب احلــدود‬ ‫املرص يــة لتشــمل جــزء مــن مشــال الســودان‪ ،‬حيــث‬ ‫تقطــن العديــد مــن القبائــل النوبيــة بشــمال الســودان‬ ‫وحــى مشــال اخلرطــوم‪ .‬تارخي ًيــا‪ ،‬تشــمل بــاد النوبــة‬ ‫أيضــا أجـ ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ـزاء واســعة مــن أريرت يــا وجيبــويت‪ ،‬وجتمــع‬ ‫الكثــر مــن العوامــل الثقافيــة بــن تلــك املناطــق‪،‬‬ ‫كاملمارســات الدينيــة والــزي والطعــام التقليــدي‪،‬‬ ‫واملوســيقى والرقــص ومــرامس االحتفــاالت‪ ،‬واللغــات‬ ‫املختلفــة الــي يطلــق عليهــا "الرطانــة"‪ .‬فنجــد‬ ‫تشــابه كبــر بــن أهــايل تلــك املناطــق يف املــزجي بــن‬ ‫الثقافــة األفريقيــة العتيقــة والعــادات اإلســامية‬ ‫والعربيــة الــي أصبحــت جــزً ء مــن هويتهــم‪ ،‬مــع‬ ‫حفــظ الفــوارق الــي تعطــي كل قبيلــة وقر يــة يف تلــك‬ ‫املناطــق اســتقالليتها اخلاصــة‪ .‬وجيمــع بينهــم ً‬ ‫أيضــا‬ ‫تــارخي وحــارض مؤســف ومهمــش‪ .‬فبينمــا يعــزون‬ ‫هــم بتارخيهــم وثقافتهــم‪ ،‬يواجهــون ً‬ ‫أيضــا عنرص يــة‬ ‫واضحــة‪ ،‬تتنكــر حتــت مســميات لألخــوة والصداقــة‪.‬‬ ‫يعــر كثــر مــن العــرب عــن محبتهــم ألهــايل تلــك‬ ‫املناطــق‪ ،‬ولكــن تلــك املحبــة غال ًبــا مــا تظهــر يف صــورة‬ ‫شــفقة أو تأســف لألحــوال الــي وصلــت إليهــا اآلن‪.‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ضيوفــا أو الجئــن إىل‬ ‫أمــا إذا جــاء هــؤالء املســاكني‬

‫مــر أو إىل بلــد عربيــة‪ ،‬فغال ًبــا مــا تتغــر هــذه النظــرة‬ ‫مــن الشــفقة إىل االمشــزاز أو االحتقــار‪ ،‬ويصــل األمــر‬ ‫إىل االضطهــاد والعنــف أحيا ًنــا‪ .‬أمــا عــن تصو يــر تلــك‬ ‫الشــعوب يف األدب والفــن العــريب‪ ،‬فــإذا مل يكــن مــن‬ ‫إبــداع أهــايل النوبــة والســودان اخلــاص‪ ،‬فينحــر األمــر‬ ‫وســفرجية‬ ‫عــى تصويرهــم يف أدوار بســيطة كخــدم ُ‬ ‫وبوابــن‪ ،‬وهــو مــراث اســتعباد تلــك الشــعوب‬ ‫ومحــو حقيقــة هــذا التــارخي املظلــم عمـ ًـدا‪ ،‬فتظــل تلــك‬ ‫الصــورة املبهمــة ألي شــخص أمســر البــرة يف دور‬ ‫اخلــادم متأصلــة يف العقــل الباطــن للعــامل العــريب‪ ،‬بــل‬ ‫للعــامل أجمــع‪ ،‬وأي اســتثناء لتلــك القاعــدة يدعــو‬ ‫للتعجــب واالســتغراب‪.‬‬

‫تركــت األنظمــة االســتعمارية خلفهــا جرو ًحــا عميقــة‬ ‫يف تــارخي األمــم‪ ،‬ولكــن أســوأ مــا فعلــت هــو أهنــا رمســت‬ ‫صــور ًة زائفـ ًة لالحتــاد والتواصــل‪ ،‬بيــد أهنــا يف احلقيقــة‬ ‫ـان جديــدة للتفــكك‪ .‬يســعى األفارقــة‪،‬‬ ‫غرســت معـ ٍ‬ ‫ســواء املشــتتني يف أحنــاء العــامل أو ســاكين مواطنهــم‬ ‫األصليــة جلمــع الشــمل‪ ،‬وإن مل يكــن جغراف ًيــا ففكر ًيــا‪،‬‬ ‫فينكفــون عــى دراســة وضعهــم يف العــامل وفهــم اجلــروح‬ ‫واآلالم الــي تركهــا االســتعمار يف ماضيهــم وحارضهــم‪.‬‬ ‫ومــا زال العــرب يفخــرون بعروبتهــم ونتاجهــم‬ ‫الفكــري والتارخيــي العظيــم‪ ،‬ويتذكــرون التــارخي ا لــذي‬ ‫جيمعهــم ببعــض‪ .‬أمــا املنطقــة الرماديــة ا لــي جتمــع‬ ‫الثقافتــن األفريقيــة والعربيــة ببعضهمــا‪ ،‬فقل ٌيــل‬ ‫مــا ُيــرد تارخيهــا أو ُينقــب عــن أصولهــا العريقــة‬ ‫وثقافتهــا املمــزة‪ .‬لــن يكــون هــذا أول أو آخــر مثــال‬ ‫عــى التفــكك النــاجت عــن أنظمــة اســتعمارية‪ ،‬فنحــن‬ ‫نــرى الســكان األصليــن مهمشــن يف معظــم مناطــق‬ ‫العــامل‪ ،‬وحيتــم عليهــم أن يندمجــوا مــع واقــع االنصهــار‬ ‫الثقــايف ويتخلــوا عــن تارخيهــم املطمــوس‪ ،‬أو أن‬ ‫يعيشــوا يف املــايض حــى يســبقهم العــر‪.‬‬

‫أنســتطيع حــى أن نعــرف أنفســنا هبــذه الســهولة؟‬ ‫كيــف وحنــن ال قــدرة لنــا عــى فهــم أنفســنا إال بعــد‬ ‫ـرا مــا نتفاجــئ بــردود‬ ‫طــول متحيــص واختبــار؟ إننــا كثـ ً‬ ‫أفعالنــا‪ :‬كيــف قلـ ُ‬ ‫ـت كــذا يف هــذا املوقــف؟ وملــاذا‬ ‫ترصفــت هبــذه الطريقــة يف تلــك املشــكلة؟ حــوادث‬ ‫كثــرة ُتـ َـزل داخــل الالشــعور اخلــاص بــكل منــا‪..‬‬ ‫ـر‬ ‫ـيت دفـ َ‬ ‫كبــت اإلحســاس تلــو اآلخــر‪ ..‬حــى إذا نسـ ِ‬ ‫َت ِ‬ ‫ـك مــر ًة‪ ،‬أو انســك َب ْت قهو ُتـ َ‬ ‫ـك بــدون قصـ ِـد َك‪،‬‬ ‫محارضاتـ ِ‬ ‫ـك مــن فــوق ســطح املكتــب‪ ،‬وجــد‬ ‫ـقط ُ‬ ‫أو سـ َ‬ ‫قلمـ ِ‬ ‫ُ‬ ‫ـكاء مر يــر كطفــل فقــد‬ ‫أحدكــم نفســه ينفجــر ببـ ٍ‬ ‫ٍ‬ ‫أبو يــه‪ .‬أهــو الدفــر أو القهــوة أو القلــم؟ ال‬ ‫أظــن‪ .‬إهنــا‪ ،‬عــى األرجــح‪ ،‬الرتاكمــات‪.‬‬ ‫طبقـ ٌ‬ ‫ـات مــن املشــاعر تكدّ ســت‬ ‫يف أعماقنــا‪ ،‬وأغفلناهــا لفــرط‬ ‫انشــغالنا بالدنيــا ومــا يــراه‬ ‫النــاس منــا‪ ..‬حــى‬ ‫اســتحالت هــذه‬ ‫املُرتاكمــات‬ ‫ُقنبل ـ ًة‬

‫أقــايص األرض يف رحــات الصيــف (احــرص عــى‬ ‫مشــاركة الصــور مــع األصدقــاء االفرتاضيــن عــى‬ ‫منصــات التواصــل اإلجتماعــي!)‪ ،‬ويدخلهــم املــدارس‬ ‫األهشــر (جيــب أن تكــون املدرســة دوليــة حــى يتقــن‬ ‫الولــد عــدة لغــات غربيــة يف ســن مبكــرة)… إخل‪.‬‬ ‫ر مبــا هــذا اختيــار حــر لألهــل‪ ،‬ال دخــل فيــه للطفــل‪،‬‬ ‫وال ذنــب ألبو يــه فيــه‪ ،‬بــل إنــه ُي َمــد لهــم ذلــك اجلهــد‬ ‫ا لــذي بذلــوه يف ســبيل أبناهئــم‪ .‬األمــر يصــر مختـ ًـا‬ ‫فقــط حــن يغــرس األبــوان يف أطفالهمــا أن‬ ‫قيمتهــم الشــخصية حتددهــا هــذه الظواهــر؛‬ ‫نــوع الســيارة ا لــي يركبــون والثيــاب ا لــي‬ ‫يرتــدون واللغــة ا لــي هبــا يتحدثــون‪.‬‬

‫الفراغ؛‬ ‫الظواهــر‪.‬‬ ‫ملــاذا ظن‬ ‫بعــض مــن تسـ َّـوق‬ ‫إلكرتون ًيــا فاشــرى‬ ‫ملبســا مــن أوروبــا أنــه خــر‬ ‫ً‬ ‫مــن هــذا ا لــذي يشــري مــن‬ ‫ســوق املوســي بالقاهــرة؟ هــل قيمــة‬ ‫املــرء تتحــدد بســعر مقتنياتــه؟! وملــاذا‬ ‫نظــن ذلــك بــن بعضنــا البعــض؟ كأن هنــاك‬ ‫قاعــدة غــر مكتوبــة َفرضــت علينــا أن مقــدار‬ ‫أموالنــا يعكــس مقــدار الفضيلــة يف ذواتنــا‪ ،‬أو أن‬ ‫ما لــك ســيارة الدفــع الرباعــي رش يــف النفــس وال شــك‪،‬‬ ‫وأن الراكــب يف حافلــة هيئــة النقــل العــام هــو مــن‬ ‫الذمــة اخلربــة‪.‬‬ ‫الدهمــاء ذوي ّ‬ ‫هــل األمــر هبــذه الســطحية؟ أنســتطيع أن َنعــرف‬ ‫ِ‬ ‫النــاس أو ُن َع ِّر َفهــم فقــط مبــا يظهــر لنــا مــن ممتلكاهتــم؟‬
