Week 01

Grade HW: 8

FROM TRASH TO ART Description Creating 3 visual abstracts from recycled materials.

Keywords

Reflection All models have the same axis. Not dynamic. The third model does not relate to the other two.

Abstract Visual Balanced Dynamic

Materials - Plastic cups - Wooden stick - Jute twine

Model Analysis Getting my inspiration from the Kuggen building, I used colorful cups. Hierarchy is achieved as well as good positive and negative space

Week 02

Grade CW: 7 HW: 8.5

RECTLINEAR VOLUMES Description Creating 3 balanced compositions using 3 rectilinear volumes

Keywords Wedging Piercing Cradling Balance

Materials White plasticine

Model Analysis The task is creating unity from different forms . There is a sense of overall configuration. The three compositions has balanced directional forces established.

RECTLINEAR VOLUMES HW Description Creating 3 balanced compositions using any number of rectilinear volumes with any materials

Model Analysis This assignment is considered more challenging. Tried to make as creative designs as possible using four different materials. Every cube succeeded in developing a particular visual issue.

Keywords Wedging Piercing Cradling Balance

Reflection: Materials Foam board Book Cork sheets

For the third model I would choose a more challenging material.

Week 03

Grade CW: 8.5 HW: 8.5

CURVILINEAR VOLUMES Description Creating 3 balanced compositions using 3 curvilinear volumes

Model Analysis In addition to mass, proportion, and character, I can now deal with the additional challenge of the diagonal axis. The forms are dynamic, stable, and creative. Each form has a different axis, and the compositions perfectly fit together.

Keywords Wedging Piercing Cradling Balance

Materials White Plasticine

Reflection: Models should be more dynamic and each element should have a different axis to have stronger relation.

CURVILINEAR BUILDING Description Chose the Dancing House and transformed it into an interesting interesting 3D composition

Model Analysis The model is dynamic and stable. Positive and negative space play a vital role in determining the overall composition, which is mostly appearing in the female figure. I can see the building dancing.

Keywords Dynamic Stable Lively

Materials Copper Sheets Black Plasticine Tin wires

Reflection: I would have changed the composition more, so it would not look like the original building

Strong relation

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place. I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” - Elliott Erwitt

Week 04

Grade CW: 8 HW: 6.5

RECTI-CURVILINEAR VOLUMES Description Creating 3 balanced compositions using Curvilinear and Rectilinear Volumes

Keywords

Model Analysis Creating mixed compositions between the rectilinear and curvilinear volumes is easier in terms of balance. Was not restricted in terms of shape and had the freedom to choose any shape to make the required composition

Wedging Piercing Cradling Balance

Materials Black Plasticine

Reflection: Would make them less compact More negative space is needed

SYMBOLIC GATE Description Design a symbolic gate for the Open air Museum in Aswan.

Model Analysis Model has balance, the ball is being held by the wood, while the wood in in the base. Dominance- The copper paper is the dominant, while the ball and the base is the subdominant.

Keywords Floating Carvings Open air entrances Balance

Materials

Reflection:

Black Plasticine Copper Paper Soft Wood

Make a clear gate Make the orange ball smaller (Reconsider the measurements)

Entrance

SYMBOLIC GATE (REDO) Description Design a symbolic gate for the Open air Museum in Aswan.

Model Analysis Dynamic gate that looks different from all sides. We used wood because it is matching theme of the place. Positive and negative space are shown.

Keywords Floating Carvings Open air entrances Balance

Materials

Reflection:

Wood sticks

More dynamic No planer surfaces are used Correct dimensions

Negative space

Grade: 8

Week 05

Grade CW: 6.5 HW: 8

LINE IN SPACE Description Create one balanced composition inspired from two opposite keyword

Model Analysis The composition is formed using one wire that shows two straight lines and one curve. The straight lines shows rigidity, while curves shows flow.

Keywords Flow Rigidity

Materials Wire

Reflection: I will redo this composition Stronger relation is needed to show the contrast Curves are not clear nor flowy

Rigidity

Flow

LINE IN SPACE (REDO) Description Create one balanced composition inspired from two opposite keyword

Model Analysis The composition is formed using one wire that shows two contrasting feelings. Freedom is a simple and uncrowded spiral, whereas oppression is shown by crowded wire that do not have a pattern.

Keywords Curves Freedom Oppression

Materials Wire

Reflection: I Stronger relation is applied Curves are more clear and flowy Mastering more the use of wires

Freedom

Oppression

Grade: 7.5

MOTION OF A BIRD Description Design a model inspired from a motion of a bird

Model Analysis Using copper wires to form a composition of a bird eating from the ground (motion)

Keywords Motion Bird Curves

Materials Copper wires

The model should be more dynamic It looks like a static bird

Line that shows the sharp turn

Tilt that shows the motion

Week 06

Grade CW: 7.5 HW: 6.5

LIGHTING PENDANT Description Design a hanging lighting pendant using three different planes

Model Analysis Cutting, bending, and twisting techniques are used. One sketchbook paper is used to create a dynamic hanging lighting pendant.

Keywords Bends Intersections Curves Lamp

Materials Sketchbook papers

Reflection: Crowded and dominant shape is not clear. Can be improved by using different sizes of planes.

Negative spaces

PLAYING WITH CARDS Description Design three compositions out of sets of playing cards

Model Analysis Balance and tension is shown in the three models. There is a coloration between positive and negative space which makes them aesthetically appealing.

Keywords Wedging Balance Appealing Aesthetic

Materials Playing Cards

Reflection: Three models need to be more dynamic. Wooden sticks should not be used

Tension

Negative spaces

Week 07 Midterm

Grade 12/15

PATH OF LIGHT Model Analysis

Description Create three compositions representing the path of light

Keywords

Inspiration

Creating plays of light was interesting. It was limited to create shadows using plasticine; however, the white paper was easier. It was challenging to choose the third material, so I decided to choose sticks to make a rigid, different model

Light Colors Shadow

Materials White Plasticine White paper Sticks Glue gun Spray

Reflection: Clay model needs to be more organized Sticks model has too much negative space

Week 08-09

Grade 17.5/20

MINI PROJECT Model Analysis

Description

Hierarchy is presented through the two different sizes. Negative and positive space creates tension. The use of material adds to the model.

Building an abstracted model showing the movement of any famous dance.

Keywords

Inspiration

Movement Dance

Materials White Papers

Reflection: We made many trials to make sure the final model is as dynamic as the dance. The first phase helped us determine what our final model would look like. However, movement has to be stronger

Week 09-13 Final Project

Grade 62%

FINAL PROJECT Model Analysis

Description You are required to design an interesting outdoor bench. The bench should serve both humans and cats. It will be considered a plus if you can create an interactive relation between human and cat. The model should be built of a repetition of one single element.

Keywords

The idea of the bench is very dynamic and interesting. It is new and creative. We first used Rhino to draw 2D sections and the intersections. The bench needed more time to assemble properly.

Inspiration

Stable Cats Hierarchy Balance

Materials Cardboard Glue Gun

Reflection: We needed more time to figure out why it did not assemble. We had to make it first on a smaller scale. Yet, the idea of parametric design is creative and unique.
