Our Mission Theatre has the potential to foster dialogue, alter perceptions and inspire social change. The Auburn University Department of Theatre is dedicated to the education and professional training of theatre artists, scholars and audiences within a liberal arts environment. The Department of Theatre champions the interaction between theory and practice and produces citizen artists who advocate for the arts through their own work in local, national and international communities. Auburn University Theatre students think critically, creatively and collaboratively and carry their knowledge from rehearsal spaces and classrooms to stages, campuses and communities worldwide.

Director's Note Kate Hamill has called her play a “radical feminist retelling” of Little Women. Her adaptation makes some of themes of the novel more explicit, and, in some instances, draws directly on the life of Louisa May Alcott. The notion of identity in general and gender identity in particular and how that is nurtured or stifled in adolescence is a central idea in the play. Jo March, the iconic tomboy of the novel, is reimagined here as gender non-conforming individual whose writing is inspired by her sister Beth, as opposed to a future husband. Against the backdrop of the Civil War and all its attendant social and spiritual upheaval, each of the young people struggle to balance their desire to be ethical, to find their authentic selves and to maintain the bonds of family. The Auburn Theatre team has created an audioplay, that you might enjoy this retelling of Little Women as it once might have been told — an opportunity to listen to a timeless story. auburn.edu

Company Biographies Ashleigh Avallone (Young Amy) is a junior BFA music theatre major from Winter Park, Florida. Her Auburn University theatre credits include Bring It On (Truman Ensemble), The Theory of Relativity (“End of The Line”), and Big Fish (Ensemble). She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support, as well as this cast and crew for making this new journey such an unforgettable one! Gianna Carter (Stage Manger) is a senior BFA theatre management major here at Auburn University. Her most recent credits include Big Fish (Spotlight Operator), The Belle’s Stratagem (ASM), Bring It On (ASM), as well as Stage Manager for Anon(ymous). She has had an amazing time working on this radio play and hopes that everyone enjoys it! Antonavia Collins (Beth) is a sophomore theatre major from Montgomery, Alabama. Previous Auburn credits include Bring It On (Ensemble). She has been involved in theatre since she was 5 years old, and she is very dedicated to the craft. She hopes to enjoy the rest of her years to come here at Auburn. War Eagle and #StaySafe! Julianna Devaney (Mrs. Mingott) is a junior BFA music theatre major from Prattville, Alabama. He has been involved in theatre since he was 7 years old and hopes to continue the craft as his career. He has been involved with the Auburn Area Community Theatre and the Auburn High School theatre program for the last several years, and has competed regionally and nationally in major theatre competitions. William is also an active member of the Lee County Flannel Club. Emily Gant (Narrator/Messenger) is a senior BFA music theatre major from N. Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Previous credits include The Theory of Relativity (Manicure Monologue/Ensemble), Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife). She is thrilled to help share this fantastic story with you. Sydney Golden (Aunt March) is a BFA music theatre major with a minor in journalism from Peachtree City, Georgia. Previous Auburn University credits include Bring it On (Rich Girl/Bridget u/s) and Dancing Communities: Cultivating Our Roots (Dancer). She would like to thank Daydrie Hague and the rest of the creative team and cast for this amazing opportunity! Charlcie Hathorn (Older Amy) is a transfer student majoring in BFA theatre performance from Tallassee, Alabama. Previous credits include The Belle's Stratagem (Gibson) and Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey). Previous credits include Almost Maine (Marvalyn), Tornado (Director) and The Old Man and the Old Moon (Old Woman) Zac Moss (Theodore "Laurie" Laurence) is a senior form Huntsville, Alabama double majoring in agricultural communications and BFA performance in theatre. Previous credits include Blithe Spirit (Charles), Bring It On (Cameron), The Belle's Strategem (Saville), Eurydice (Father), Alabama Love Stories (Ensemble), Big Fish (Karl the Giant), Holiday Memories (Ensemble) and A Civil War Christmas (Ensemble). Zac would like to thank all his family and friends for their continued support. He would also like to dedicate his performance to the late Chadwick Boseman. WAKANDA FOREVER! Katie Pappas (Meg) is a junior BFA performance major and media studies minor from Daphne, Alabama. She feels incredibly lucky to be able to play the character of Meg in this adaptation of such a beloved novel, and wants to give her thanks to both Daydrie and the theatre department for this opportunity, as well as her parents and friends for their constant support. His favorite roles so far have been Caliban from Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Napoleon in Animal Farm. In his spare time, he’s an avid sci-fi fan and charity cosplayer, most well known as the Star Wars villain Kylo Ren. Guest Artist Biography Anthony Narciso (Composer and Sound Designer) is a Sound Designer and Composer based out of Orlando, Florida. He routinely designs for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Garden Theatre, and Auburn University and serves as Orlando Repertory Theatre's seasonal sound designer. Additionally, he spent seven years as the Festival Sound Designer for the Texas Shakespeare Festival and has been guest artist at universities across the country. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre Design and Technology from The University of Central Florida and is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. Guest Artist Biography Anthony Narciso (Composer and Sound Designer) is a Sound Designer and Composer based out of Orlando, Florida. He routinely designs for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Garden Theatre, and Auburn University and serves as Orlando Repertory Theatre's seasonal sound designer. Additionally, he spent seven years as the Festival Sound Designer for the Texas Shakespeare Festival and has been guest artist at universities across the country. Anthony holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre Design and Technology from The University of Central Florida and is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. Our Mission Theatre has the potential to foster dialogue, alter perceptions and inspire social change. The Auburn University Department of Theatre is dedicated to the education and professional training of theatre artists, scholars and audiences within a liberal arts environment. The Department of Theatre champions the interaction between theory and practice and produces citizen artists who advocate for the arts through their own work in local, national and international communities. Auburn University Theatre students think critically, creatively and collaboratively and carry their knowledge from rehearsal spaces and classrooms to stages, campuses and communities worldwide.
