Dear Supporters of AUTD, We welcome you to experience our 2026-2027 theatrical season, “DARE to be fearless and true.” This season’s shows explore how finding something true often comes from taking a leap. Just as every theatre student who steps onto a stage encounters the unknown, we hope you experience the thrill of discovery with our eclectic and enchanting season. While we change our themes from season to season, we remain steadfast in our departmental goals of educating students to thrive in the 21st century world of performance. Last year, your donations helped us raise our awardable scholarship support by nearly ten thousand dollars. Opposite: Amy Roberts (L) and Mai Cooper (R) work on Reid Williams’ wig for Small Mouth Sounds (2025) while Harrison Dunn prepares in the background. Photo by Magalí Zaslabsky. Right: Tessa Carr’s photo by Jessi Rogers.

This year, we want to surpass that mark as we continue our Scholarship Benefit Opening Nights. All tickets sales and donations on any opening night will go directly to student scholarships. If you purchase tickets for opening nights, even if your schedule changes, your purchase will still make a meaningful impact and count toward the scholarship fund. While you can always support AU Theatre and Dance through a direct gift when you order any tickets, we also ask that you consider giving on opening night by buying a ticket and/or including an extra donation if you are able. Our students succeed in professional positions as performers, directors, technicians, managers, and designers because of our faculty’s teaching expertise and the production work guided by our faculty and staff.

to be fearless and true

We have framed our past several theatrical seasons around concepts interwoven with the human spirit. 2024-25’s Resilience explored the strength and character that are both required and refined as we weather times of difficulty or uncertainty. Our 2025-26 Wayfinding season investigated the journeys we take alone and with others and, specifically, the search for connection along our divergent paths. This season, we are diving into the idea of “the dare”—that moment of provocative proposition when a decision must be made to leap forward or hold back. In facing a dare, we need look no further than two beloved Auburn University traditions for guiding tenets. Our fight song, “War Eagle,” reminds us to be “fearless and true.” And while the decision to be fearless does not mean we do not experience fear, it compels us to push through with the courage to find truth. The Auburn Creed supports this notion with affirmations of belief in “honesty and truthfulness” and “a spirit that is not afraid.” Our 2026-27 season is filled with stories of daring—to traverse uncharted waters, to face personal fears, to stand up to tyranny, to chase big dreams, to shake up the status quo—and the truths that are revealed when each dare is accepted. We invite YOU to find your “AUdacious” spirit and to DARE to be fearless and true with us this season!

ased on the journals of explorer John Wesley Powell, Men on Boats brings to life a daring expedition through the Grand Canyon, reimagined through a contemporary lens with a cast of all women. This bold production surges forward with courage, wit, and unrelenting spirit — and asks who gets remembered and who is written out of history. With humor and striking physical storytelling, the play captures the tenacity it takes to confront the unknown and the bravery required to lead the way into uncharted territory. As ambition and camaraderie collide with the mythos of conquest, Men on Boats invites audiences to reconsider the stories we inherit and to question what endures when history is retold from a different point of view. n the fevered chaos of the French Revolution, four extraordinary women—a playwright, an assassin, a queen, and a rebel—dare to imagine a different future, bound together by audacity, sisterhood, and unstoppable zeal. As they navigate a world of violence, upheaval, and impossible choices, their voices rise in defiance, fueled by a fierce belief in the power of art, activism, and one another. With biting humor and electrifying modern energy, The Revolutionists blurs the lines between history and imagination to examine who gets to shape the narrative of change. Includes mature language. ix teenagers. One fatal roller coaster. One impossible question. After a tragic accident, members of a high school chamber choir find themselves suspended in limbo, faced with a choice that demands both courage and raw honesty. One of them can return to life, but which one will it be? As electrifying songs shift from hilarious to haunting, each teen steps forward with disarming vulnerability, revealing their deepest fears, boldest dreams, and the fragile truths that define who they are. Darkly funny yet profoundly moving, Ride the Cyclone celebrates the courage it takes to be seen and the bravery required to face the unknown, both in life and beyond it. With boundless vivacity and a spark of confidence she never knew she had, she must step into the spotlight and claim her moment before it slips away. igh in the branches of a divided tree, survival demands more than instinct; it calls for pluck and unyielding determination. As one squirrel family hoards its wealth while others struggle against hunger, unlikely challengers rise with daring resolve, refusing to accept a world built on imbalance and fear. What begins as a scramble for food sharpens into a biting, darkly comic exploration of greed, power, and the courage it takes to defy the status quo. With wit as sharp as its claws and stakes that feel all too human, The Squirrels reveals the audacity required to fight for equity, and the resilience needed to hold onto hope when the odds are stacked against you. Across FIVE major degree tracks and THREE different minors, our students engage daily in the rigorous hands-on work of the theatre. They construct sets, call shows, analyze texts, create designs, sew costumes, conduct research, choreograph dances, build props, devise new works, focus lights, block scenes, score scripts, and everything in between.
