Homeowners Association Fees were due April 1st, 2024.

Fee Notices have been emailed to the primary email on accounts. If you do not have an email address on file then your fee notice has been sent via regular mail.

Please advise the Administration Office (403-537-2601) if you do not receive a Fee Notice. Fees can be paid online, in-person, or over the phone.

Interest is applied to all outstanding accounts on May 1st, 2024.

Following an extensive and comprehensive review of the 2024/2025 budget, the ABRA Board of Directors has approved the annual fees: Please note there is a 0% increase to this year’s fees. The ABRA Board of Directors is attuned to the economic challenges confronted by our residents in the current financial climate. This decision reflects a commitment to supporting the community during difficult times and fostering a sense of understanding and cooperation among residents and the board.

CREDIT CARD: 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM Monday to Sunday in person. Please note there is a $7.50 Credit Card Processing Fee for all credit card payments.

Drop off or mail to the following address: 200 Auburn Bay Blvd SE Calgary, AB T3M-0A4 PRE-AUTHORIZED CREDIT CARD FORM: All residents can bypass the lineups and fill out the credit card authorization slip, along with other details, and ABRA staff will process your payment within five (5) business days. Please note there is a $7.50 Credit Card Processing Fee for all credit card payments. Forms can be found online at www.AuburnBayRA.ca and be dropped off in a sealed envelope to Auburn House during our hours of operation.

Credit Card Processing Fee Last year, the ABRA Board of Directors introduced a $7.50 Credit Card Processing Fee to alleviate our expenses related to merchant fees. As of March 2024, ABRA has successfully saved nearly $50,000 in merchant expenses. In light of these savings, ABRA has decided to maintain the implementation of this fee exclusively for this year’s annual fees. If you prefer not to bear this cost, alternative payment methods are available: 1. Debit – You can pay by debit in-person at Auburn House 9am-10pm Monday to Sunday.

2. Cheque – Please make your cheque payable to the ‘Auburn Bay Residents Association’ and drop it off or mail it to Auburn House.

3. Cash – You can pay with cash in-person at Auburn House 9am-5pm Monday to Friday ONLY. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

E-Transfer Payments Not Accepted We greatly value convenience and security for our residents in all financial transactions. However, at this time, we do not accept e-transfers due to our commitment to ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all payments, particularly in verifying transactions with the correct Auburn Bay property.

Need your Membership?

Homeowners: Bring a copy of your Certificate of Title, as well as government-issued photo I.D. with the Auburn Bay address on it to Auburn House to receive your permanent membership card.

Tenants: Ensure your landlord has completed a Transfer of Privileges form & sent in their Certificate of Title. Bring in your tenancy agreement & photo ID with the Auburn Bay Address. Headshots & documents can be emailed into csr@auburnbay.org or taken/provided at the office. Our office is open from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

Youth Membership Cards (12+) How to obtain a youth membership card: Parents/Guardians must provide a birth certificate and must fill out a Children’s Waiver Form in order for any children, aged 12 to 15, to receive their membership card. Photos can be taken at our main office or sent via email to csr@auburnbay.org Children’s Waivers must be filled out to receive a youth card. The form is available through the link below.

Children under 12 will not receive cards and may only utilize the facilities when accompanied by an adult.

Did you know that youth 12 years and older are eligible for a membership card?

Youth without a membership card are not permitted in the facility alone.

It provides an opportunity for people from around the world to recognize and appreciate Africa's diverse cultural traditions, historical sites, and natural wonders.

May 17, 2024 - International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) is observed annually on May 17th. It aims to raise awareness of the discrimination, prejudice, and violence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals worldwide. The day serves as a platform to promote equality, celebrate diversity, and advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+ people. Membership Rules GENERAL MEMBERSHIP RULES All ABRA membership card holders MUST be respectful of ABRA property and staff.

All members must present their membership card to gain entrance to the park and facility.

All ABRA households, in good standing, are permitted to have five (5) guests per day.

Property owners are 100% responsible for their guests while using ABRA amenities.

Residents must reside with their guests when using ABRA amenities.

Members are not permitted to sign in other Auburn Bay residents – no exceptions.

All ABRA amenities and facilities are “Use at Your Own Risk”.

Members must adhere to ABRA rules and regulations while using ABRA amenities and facilities.

Membership cards remain the property of the Auburn Bay Residents Association.

ABRA will seize and suspend access if the holder of the card breaches the rules.

All members accessing the Auburn Bay amenities must always carry their membership card and present it upon request of the Auburn Bay Residents Association staff.

Membership cards are not transferable, including between members of the same household.

Lending your membership card to another person is prohibited and will result in a temporary suspension of membership privileges as determined by ABRA. If a membership card is lost or stolen, residents will be charged a $10 replacement fee.

Short term rentals and Air B&B’s are not permitted to obtain ABRA membership.

Private lakeshore and lake access docks are private property and not to be accessed by anyone other than the residents who reside in these areas.

Please allow up to 72 hours for all membership cards requests to be completed.

Summer Rules GENERAL SUMMER RULES Bicycles, liquor, and glass bottles are not permitted in the park.

Scooters, rollerblades, roller-skates, skateboards are not permitted in the park.

Use of boogie boards or other such types of equipment will only be allowed when nobody is on the beach or in the swimming area.

All Flotation/Splash Island toys are not to exceed four (4) meters in diameter.

Pets are not permitted in the park, in the lake or on any ABRA managed property and pets are not allowed on the ice in the winter. Lake Shore/Lake Access homes must also comply.

Open fires are not permitted in the park. Only charcoal briquettes are to be used in the barbeques.

Smoking and/or e-cigarette usage is not permitted in any of the building facilities, park, pathways, and lake access ways.

Members must refrain from using foul language in the park and rambunctious and unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.

The use of motorized boats (including battery operated motors) or other vehicles is prohibited (except as required by the Association for maintenance or security purposes).

Motorized remote control driven boats, planes, vehicles, and such are not permitted on ABRA property.

Jumping or diving from any dock owned by the ABRA or from any boat is strictly prohibited.

No person is permitted on the lake while Thin Ice signs are posted.

No person shall at any time discharge, deposit, throw, dump, or place any trash or debris of any kind whatsoever (including, without limitation, any toxic or dangerous substance or material) in the lake, all of which are strictly prohibited at all times.

The Auburn Bay Residents Association does not provide supervision or lifeguards for park/lake. Guardians are responsible for their children at all times.

Members and guests will enter and use the park facilities at their own risk.

Neighbour Day June 15th is Neighbour Day! Neighbour Day is Calgary’s celebration of community connection. Held each year on the third Saturday in June, Neighbour Day is a step toward creating welcoming and inclusive communities where neighbours connect and belong every day of the year.

Good things happen when you get to know your neighbours. They can add a friendly visit to your day, and you can lend a helping hand when needed. Social connection with neighbours reduces loneliness and isolation and builds strong communities where people feel they belong.

Waterfowl Education As spring approaches, we aim to inform our residents about the reasons behind bird deterrence at the lake. While we take pride in being stewards of the environment and our aquatic ecosystem, it’s essential to recognize that certain waterfowl can adversely impact the lake.

Our primary concern is managing fecal coliform levels in the water to ensure the safety of our patrons. Birds, particularly, gulls and geese, contribute significantly to fecal matter accumulation.

As well, the birds can bring in undesirables from other water bodies. Therefore, we are allowed to deter these birds. We kindly request that residents living near the lake also participate in bird deterrence efforts. By working together, we can enhance water quality.

In cases where a pair of birds nests, we have the option to engage experts with permits to relocate the animals. Let’s collaborate to maintain a healthy and vibrant environment for all.

Water Restrictions Information from ABRA In response to the current water supply situation and in adherence to our commitment to responsible resource management, the City of Calgary announces the enforcement of water restrictions for lake communities, effective May 31, 2024. Unusually dry conditions and escalating demand have placed significant strain on the city's water reservoirs, necessitating these measures to safeguard water availability for essential needs and ensure the sustainability of our water supply over the long term.

As caretakers of lake communities within Calgary, we acknowledge the concerns these restrictions raise for our operational managers. A decline in lake levels could have substantial ramifications for the aquatic ecosystem and lake infrastructure, including liners, docks, and aeration systems. While each Resident Association (RA)/Homeowners Association (HOA) is devising preventative strategies to mitigate such impacts, our approaches vary. Some of the drought mitigation efforts being implemented by ABRA include: 1. Irrigation Restrictions: We will limit irrigation to specific days and times as our irrigation systems draw directly from the lake. Residents are encouraged to adhere to the prescribed watering schedule to minimize water waste.

2. Lake Aeration Operation: ABRA will adjust our aeration schedule to reduce water evaporation. Close monitoring of lake oxygen levels will ensure alignment with Alberta Health Services standards and make diligent efforts to ensure our water temperatures are at the desired level for our healthy aquatic ecosystem.

3. Rainwater Collection: Installation of rainwater barrels for park plant maintenance will be undertaken by ABRA. 4. Landscaping: ABRA is embracing a shift in our approach to landscaping by exploring innovative designs such as xeriscaping that align with environmental sustainability, decreasing reliance on city water, and maintaining our community's vibrancy.

5. ABRA Wells: Despite historically low production, ABRA water well is being pursued for a water license. This effort aims to establish water reserves for potential future use.

These restrictions are vital to ensure our community's access to sufficient water during this challenging period. We urge all residents and businesses to comply with these measures and embrace water-saving practices in their daily routines. The RA/HOAs are actively collaborating with each other and with the City of Calgary to continuously monitor the situation, and will disseminate updates as necessary.

We extend our gratitude for the cooperation and understanding of all residents and stakeholders as we collectively strive to conserve our invaluable water resources.

AUBURN BAY BACKYARD HIVE

May 20 was World Bee Day! Bees and other pollinators play a vital role in our ecosystem. No bees, no food. Honeybees are responsible for one-third of the world's crop pollination. Did you know you can be licensed to keep bees in the City of Calgary? Our urban backyard hive is in Auburn Bay, near the community garden.

Honeybee colonies consist of a queen, workers (females) and drones (males). The queen bee is the most important in the hive. A queen can lay 2000 eggs per day during peak season. The queen is not a ruler; she is more like the mother of the hive. The worker bee makes up most of the population of the colony. The workers do all the "work". They clean the combs, feed and care for the brood (babies), make the honeycomb, defend the hive, and forage for pollen and nectar. The drone's main task is to mate with virgin queens on the queens' mating flights.

Bees have a fascinating way of communicating through a special dance known as the waggle dance. This dance shares crucial information about the bee's foraging trip, including the food source's distance, direction from the hive, sun angle, and food quality. Honeybees go to great lengths for their honey, visiting about two million flowers and flying 80,000 km to produce just one pound of honey.

An average bee visits 50 to 100 flowers on each foraging trip, collecting nectar and pollen for their diet. Look for the yellow balls on the honeybee's hind legs, known as pollen baskets.

AUBURN BAY BACKYARD HIVE Did you know honeybees have healing powers?

Products like honey and propolis can strengthen the immune system and overall health. Honey has antiseptic properties and antioxidants, which can protect the body from inflammation. Honey can also help with seasonal allergies, gut health, and infection.

How can you help the bees?

Consider No-Mow May. Many people will start to see dandelion and white clover bloom in their lawns. No-Mow-May allows pollinators to visit these flowers "weeds" before mowing. Another idea is to limit pesticide use and plant bee-friendly shrubs or flowers in your garden.

This FREE online program is back for Auburn Bay Residents who want to become an official Safety Ranger for their community! This program is designed for children aged 4 to 10.

Students will work through an online workbook throughout the summer that is both engaging and educational! Safety Rangers will explore a variety of different topics and learn the importance of practicing safety wherever they go!

GYM SCHEDULE & INFO Please be aware of the rules for our gymnasium: Indoor Courts do not have a reservation system.

All courts are on a "first come first serve" basis.

However, all players must abide by the rotation system and take turns alternating game play when there are more groups than courts.

Once a match is complete, the next available players will head to a court to start their game. *Please be courteous, fair, and respectful of all users. Auburn House staff do not delegate game times and/or rotations.

Drop-in Fees for Guests ABRA DOES NOT PROVIDE GYM SUPERVISION

Adult guest drop-in fee: $10 Youth guest drop-in fee: $5

OPEN GYM & SPLIT GYM Open Gym (Non-Netted): Basketball, floor hockey, dodgeball... open gym is an all-ages opportunity for family and youth to use the gym for sports!

Split Gym (Half Netted, Half Non-Netted): Half the gym accommodates non-netted sports and half accommodates pickleball or badminton.

DROP-IN PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE, NO EXCEPTIONS.

ADULT DROP-IN REMINDER: Please note that our Adult drop-in times are 16+ only. No children are permitted in the gymnasium during these times. Children under the age of 12 are NOT to be left unattended in the facility.

GYMNASIUM RULES AND REMINDERS All users must check-in at the office before entering the gymnasium.

Adult members are permitted to bring up to 5 guests (per household) Residents MUST remain with their guests while using ABRA amenities.

Guests are not permitted into the facility until their resident is present.

Youth members (12-16 years, with written parental consent) up to 2 guests (per household) Indoor shoes are mandatory for all users.

The gymnasium is not a makeshift locker room. All users must use the designated changerooms in the bathrooms.

No outdoor hockey sticks or pucks permitted.

No food or drink (except water).

Gymnasium Schedule is subject to change at any time without notice.

Please respect the designated dropin times.

Please DO NOT put tape on the gymnasium floor to make your own court lines.

ABRA will be monitoring this going forward.
