Guest passes will be only be issued to individuals who live alone with no other household members.

Membership Card Reminder: Members accessing the Auburn Bay Amenities must carry their membership card at all times. Auburn House is a No card, No Access facility.

Membership cards are non-transferable therefore every household member must have their own membership card for access. Learn more of our membership rules below.

Auburn Bay, we are extremely happy to announce that our newly renovated deck will be open very soon for our residents' enjoyment. We want to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding during this construction process. Construction took longer than expected, but we are beyond happy with the finished product. This new deck will provide years of enjoyment for our valued residents.

The gatehouse entrance will be open every day during July and August from 11:00am - 7:00pm.

Park and Lake Reminders GENERAL

GUESTS

All residents (ages 12+) must bring their membership card each time they wish to access the facility.

No child under 12 is permitted in the park/facility without adult supervision.

No animals of any type are permitted in the park.

No glass, smoking, vaping, or alcohol is permitted in the park.

No bicycles, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, etc. are permitted in the park.

Open fires are not permitted. Only charcoal briquettes may be used in the barbeques.

Residents and guests must not use foul language in the park.

Rambunctious/unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.

The Auburn Bay Residents Association does not provide supervision or lifeguards for park/lake. Guardians are responsible for their children at all times. Members and guests will enter and use the park facilities at their own risk.

Residents assume full responsibility for their guest's actions. Residents must be present at all times while their guests use the facility.

Adult residents may bring up to five (5) guests per household. Youth residents (aged 12-15) may bring up to two (2) guests per household (with signed parental consent). All guests must be signed in before entering the facility.

Park Guest Lists (up to 25 people) are only available with Picnic Shelter bookings.

The ABRA has the right to decline any large group.

For more than five (5) guests, a Gate +8 List must be submitted to Auburn House at least 48 hours prior to your event for approval. These lists are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The ABRA accepts a maximum of 10 Gate +8 lists Mon-Thurs, and 5 Gate +8 Lists Fri-Sun (and all stat/civic holidays).

The maximum number of guests with a Gate +8 list is 8 (including children and mobile infants) Gate +8 lists are available on AuburnBayRA.ca and at Auburn House.

COMMUNITY MAINTENANCE In addition to maintaining Auburn House, the Park and the Lake, the Auburn Bay Residents Association (ABRA) provides enhanced landscaping and maintenance in many areas within the community.

Yard and Perimeter Maintenance Information through City of Calgary

Did you know?

In accordance with the City of Calgary Bylaws, property owners are held responsible for the regular maintenance and upkeep of the grass adjacent to their property. This generally includes all adjacent areas such as boulevards, sidewalks, walkways, lanes and to the centre of the back alley.

Fertilizer Information

From the ABRA Maintenance Team

The ABRA is committed to maintaining our water quality and aquatic ecosystems within our beautiful lake. Part of our commitment to this is helping to educate our residents about how their yard/lawn care routines can impact lake.

The lake access ways have swales which run to the end of the access ways, with a splash pad right before the shoreline treatment. Fertilizers, pesticides, etc., that are put on private lots can and do run off into the lake and negatively impact on water quality. Commercial applicators should be aware of this as there are numerous rules and regulations regarding pesticide use near bodies of water. This runoff ends up in the water where you, your families and friends play in the water, and can also negatively impact the fish.

Fertilizing your lawn may be useful to make a lawn healthy and green, but it also has a negative impact on the fish, and aquatic ecosystems. The biggest issue with lawn fertilizer is phosphorus runoff as it has a harmful effect on the fish.

Phosphorus in fertilizers also stimulate growth. Its generally used to stimulate new growth in lawns however when it ends up in the water it has the same effect; it encourages algae and weed growth in the aquatic environment. When too much fertilizer enters the water, it can expedite the algae growth. Algae typically have a very fast life cycle and when this life cycle is accelerated it can cause problems for water quality and aquatic life, primarily by depleting oxygen from the water. This phenomenon is known as hypoxia which results in oxygen levels becoming so low that water can no longer support aquatic life.

Furthermore, exposure to high levels of nitrates can lead to gastric issues in animals and humans.

Lawn fertilizers are not the only problem though, any type of fertilizer can cause an algae bloom. Organic, or inorganic, compost, manure, bone meal applied to lawns or garden beds can leach into the aquatic system. Just like anything, too much of a good thing can become a problem. Excess nutrients in the water and result in algae blooms.

We ask that everyone is mindful of the lake while maintaining their yards.

Considerations for Lawn Care:

1. Assess the necessity for extensive fertilization. Opt for low to no phosphate fertilizers.

2. Extended Grass Length: Allow the grass to grow slightly longer than the typical length. This practice promotes long-term health and minimizes runoff into the lake.

3. Reduced Fertilization Frequency: Consider decreasing the frequency of fertilization, particularly avoiding late fall fertilization.

4. Mulching Grass Clippings: Mulch the grass clippings and incorporate them back into the lawn.

5. Tolerance for Non-Noxious Weeds: Develop a higher tolerance for non-noxious weeds such as dandelions.

6. Manual Weed Removal: Engage in hand-pulling weeds as a means of weed control.

2. Membership Card # (or Auburn Bay Address if you have a Temporary Membership Card.)

3. Which watercraft you would like to take out.

Your rental is ready for you when you receive the following text message*: Your boat/SUP rental is ready! Please proceed to the boathouse where an attendant will assist you. Your boat/SUP will be held for 10 minutes.

Watercraft cannot be reserved ahead of time and are rented out on a first-come first-serve basis.

The booking system accepts only text messages, it will not receive phone calls.

If you don't have a device, please speak to our boathouse attendees inperson with your membership card to reserve a watercraft.

Boat & Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) Rules ABRA watercraft can only be signed out by residents aged 16+ with a valid membership card Lifejackets are MANDATORY on all ABRA watercraft. (ABRA highly recommends that you bring your own lifejacket as we cannot guarantee the availability of our lifejackets) Boats can be taken out for 90 minutes SUP's can be taken out for 45 minutes Requests to sign out ABRA watercraft can only be made for the current timeslot. Requests for later time slots will not be granted Failure to comply with ABRA rules & regulations may result in suspension of watercraft rental privileges.

Let's prioritize water safety during your visit to the lake!

For your safety, please do not swim past the buoys, and be cautious when approaching the area as there is a significant drop and it gets very deep.

Always swim with a buddy.

If you see someone in distress, there are red rescue tubes located along the beach wall and at the boathouse, throw bags at each lake accessway, reaching poles at the boathouse and fishing dock and rescue life rings on the floating docks.

Lifejackets are available at our lifejacket loaner stations, at the entrances to the beach, and at the boathouse. They are available free of charge and for all patrons to use.

Lifejackets are mandatory when using any ABRA watercraft and are strongly recommended for other water activities.

Parents and guardians - please keep your children within arms reach at all times and remember to use active supervision.

Auburn House has a large park and it only takes a second for a child to dart off.

The swim area is defined by the buoys, however please be mindful that the water levels vary within the swim area.

Remember that many ABRA staff members are trained first aiders. All staff working in the park will have on staff attire.

There are AEDs located in the Zamboni room and in the main lobby of Auburn House.

Don't forget that ABRA staff are not trained lifeguards. Use the facilities at your own risk.

Please be mindful when you are sending your small children out on inflatables. The winds can vary and change very suddenly.

Know and be confident in your swimming abilities.

Please educate your guests on ABRA policies, procedures and rules, especially surrounding water safety. Many close calls that we experience at Auburn House are with guests of residents as they are not familiar with water safety expectations.

RENT A PICNIC SHELTER! Did you know you can rent one of our six picnic shelters in our park? Whether it's for an upcoming birthday party or just for a family beach day, Auburn House offers rentals for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 3 hours Planning to book? Head down to Auburn House to secure your rental. Please note picnic shelter rentals must be booked in-person at the main office.

Requirements to book: Homeowners or Tenants Insurance must be provided at time of booking. (Policy Number, Expiration Date and name of insurer) Valid Membership Card The picnic shelter may be rented for private functions only, at a rate of $25.00 per hour.

With a shelter booking, members receive a 25 person guest list.

Picnic Shelter Reservation Information No Same Day Bookings Maximum number of guests permitted is 25. Park guest list form is required to be submitted to Auburn House a minimum of 48 hours prior to the booking.

All rental charges must be paid in full at the time of booking (cheques may be postdated up to six (6) month prior to the booking).

Latex balloons and confetti are not permitted in the park. If they are used there will be an extra charge of $50 on the account.

Cancellation or rescheduling of a booking must be done in writing. You may e‐mail your request to admin@auburnbay.org.

There is absolutely no liquor permitted in the park or parking lot The renter MUST be in attendance for entire duration of event.

The renter MUST be 18 years or older to book.

Upon arriving for your booking, you must check in for your booking at the main office.

Your guests will not be permitted in the park until this has been done.

This is Dasiy Darroch. She is 9 years old. She is the happiest dog and loves her owl toy and going shopping with her mom - she loves HomeSense. At 4pm daily she sits on the stairs looking out the back window waiting for her dad to come home from work. She loves going to the Auburn Bay dog park as well as pet planet- this picture was taken today when we left the pet store in Auburn Bay.

THE ABRA IS A KIDSPORT CALGARY SPORT CLUB CHAMPION As a part of our Safe Space Initiative, the ABRA became a KidSport Calgary Sport Club Champion in spring 2022 in order to offer more inclusive youth sport program opportunities to low-income families. KidSport Calgary offers grants of up to $500 per child/year to help cover sports registration fees for youth under 18 years of age. UPCOMING GYM SCHEDULE Please be aware of the rules for our gymnasium Indoor Courts do not have a reservation system. All courts are on a "first come first serve" basis.

However, all players must abide by the rotation system and take turns alternating game play when there are more groups than courts.

Once a match is complete, the next available players will head to a court to start their game.

Please be courteous, fair, and respectful of all users.

Auburn House staff do not delegate game times and/or rotations.

ABRA DOES NOT PROVIDE GYM SUPERVISION

OPEN GYM & SPLIT GYM Open Gym (Non-Netted): Basketball, floor hockey, dodgeball... open gym is an all-ages opportunity for family and youth to use the gym for sports!

Split Gym (Half Netted, Half Non-Netted): Half the gym accommodates non-netted sports and half accommodates pickleball or badminton.

DROP-IN PAYMENTS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE, NO EXCEPTIONS.

NEW DROP-IN RATES: This is a friendly heads up that ABRA will be increasing our Drop-In Rates for non-residents effective September 1st, 2023. This price increase will assist ABRA with the growing demands of our equipment usage. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

New Adult Sports League Information: The ABRA is excited to introduce our new adult sports leagues coming this fall!

The following leagues will be: Dodgeball Basketball Ball Hockey Badminton Pickleball Volleyball

The leagues will run at the beginning of each season and each sport will be on a designated night. If you wish to participate, you must sign up as a full team. Each team will designate a team captain or primary contact that the Program Coordinator can send all communication to, including game dates, times and standings.

Each league will run for a specified number of weeks (depending on the number of teams that sign up) with playoffs occurring afterwards.

Head on down early and enjoy a variety of fun activities! Please bring your own chairs and blankets. Fresh popcorn and cotton candy will be available for purchase in-park, and VHF Coffee will also be on site with hot drinks to help keep you warm. We’ve also got roving entertainment, mascots, and YYC Foam Wars all here for our pre-movie fun.

The time has come, Auburn Bay! This exhilarating event is returning to Auburn House this summer and is exclusively for our adult Auburn Bay residents and their guests. This year we’re excited to announce our first double-bill performance with Playground Zone featuring BrokenToyz! Get ready for an entertaining afternoon in the park where you can sing and dance to the music of a live band while enjoying the tastes of local brews and cider. Food will also be available on site for purchase. This will be an epic live music event you won’t want to miss!

FAMILY MUSTER POINT FOR SPECIAL EVENTS

Hey Auburn Bay,

We would like to remind all of our residents and guests that safety is always our number one priority. This year again we will be implementing a Special Event ‘Family Muster Point’ for all our of outdoor family events, which will be located in the splash park area. We highly recommend to all residents, particularly those with children, to familiarize yourselves with the location of the Family Muster Point upon arrival to an event. Please speak with your children to ensure everyone knows, should you be separated from your group or family, to meet up at the Family Muster Point. We will have staff stationed there to quickly help reunite your group. Should you have a member go missing from your group, it is a good idea to know what everyone is wearing for a description. It is of the utmost importance that all residents know where to go, and what to do in case of an emergency.

In conjunction with the Special Event Family Muster Point, we will also again be providing ‘Parent ID Wristbands’ for kids at special events in order to safely and quickly reunite a child who has been separated from their family. We highly recommend to all parents attending our outdoor events with children to utilize these wristbands. You will find these wristbands for your child(ren) at the park entrance as well as at the Family Muster Point.
