New Faculty 2017

As I walk through the Auburn Engineering campus, I always enjoy bumping into our college’s junior faculty members. Seeing their unbridled energy and enthusiasm as they begin their careers in the academy reminds me of a time – 23 years ago – when I joined Auburn University as an assistant professor of chemical engineering. I was eager to set up a dynamic research program and contribute to the body of knowledge in my field while mentoring the next generation of engineers. Little did I know then that I would one day become dean of this great college. As I chat with our junior faculty, I see that same energy and strength in them that I felt at the beginning of my academic career. It’s one of the many reasons I am excited about the future of our college. They bring new ideas and perspectives with them in addressing the great challenges of their disciplines. Many of them will devote decades of their lives to nurturing the next generation of engineers. As such, recruiting outstanding junior faculty is integral to the long-term success of any institution. That is why I am pleased to announce that in 2017 the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering welcomed 27 exceptional new engineers to our faculty. This follows a calendar year in which we hired 34 outstanding new faculty members. Our new faculty members are conducting transformative research in critical areas such as energy and the environment; biomedical and pharmaceutical engineering; cybersecurity and information technology; infrastructure and transportation; advanced manufacturing; and engineered materials and nanotechnology. Most importantly, this influx of new faculty is allowing greater opportunities for our students to engage in active, hands-on learning both inside the classroom and out. It’s why our students are graduating prepared to tackle some of the world’s greatest engineering challenges. I invite you to read more about our new colleagues and their outstanding credentials in teaching, research and outreach and join me in welcoming them to Auburn University. Sincerely,

Christopher B. Roberts Dean, Samuel Ginn College of Engineering
