IT’S TIME TO BE IN THE ROOM AGAIN.

To feel that collective breath, the shared silence, the spontaneous applause that erupts when something extraordinary happens onstage. Thank you for being here tonight— thank you for choosing to show up, to engage, and to be part of something live.

Creating moments of awe—like the one you’re about to experience tonight—is what makes the TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND season so unique. It’s international. It’s deeply curated. It’s intentionally designed to connect across cultures, communities, and generations.

These artists speak through movement. And while it can be hard to put into words, what they create is undeniable when you’re in the room. Diverse. Global. Powerful. Surprising. Moving. That’s the magic of TITAS.

Again, nothing replaces the live experience.

We’re proud to contribute to the international profile of Dallas. We celebrate our adventurous, curious, and passionate audiences. And we recognize the immense value that cultural exchange and the arts bring to our communities. This is the heart of TITAS—it’s how we help shape and elevate the cultural landscape of North Texas.

And every season, new audience members tell us the same thing: "I’m overwhelmed—I had no idea. This was not what I expected."

That reaction? It never gets old. It’s Golden.

After more than four decades of presenting groundbreaking dance, we know the power of what happens when world-class artists meet open-hearted audiences.

And the 2025/26 season will not disappoint.

Ten extraordinary companies from the U.S., Spain, Canada, Taiwan, and France— including three making their Texas or U.S. debut right here in Dallas. Breathtaking artistry, thrilling athleticism, unforgettable performances. This is a season you won’t want to miss.

So thank you.

Thank you for being part of another remarkable year. Thank you for saying yes to live performance. Thank you for supporting TITAS/DANCE UNBOUND and the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

What we do together truly makes a difference.

After creating choreographic works to major musical scores such as The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky, The 24 Preludes by Chopin, and Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune by Debussy, Marie Chouinard returns to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, following her earlier piece bODY_rEMIX/les_vARIATIONS_gOLDBERG.

In the studio, working on this piece uplifted the hearts of all who took part. It is this elevation of the soul that Marie and the performers now wish to share with you.

Sung in Latin, Bach’s Magnificat for choir, five vocal soloists and orchestra is imbued with the divine. It is the Virgin who speaks—her voice is powerful, exultant. A newly pregnant woman, she addresses us: she is blessed, sublimely fulfilled. In her gaze, the world is freed from all oppression.

Marie Chouinard choreographs MAGNIFICAT through sweeping group sequences, as well as intimate trios, duets, and solos for 35 minutes of grace.

– INTERMISSION (20 MINUTES) –

The use of cameras, camcorders, tape recorders and cell phones is strictly forbidden during the performance.

A COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD production, in coproduction with the National Arts Centre (Ottawa), the Festival international de nouvelle danse (Montreal) and the Kunstentrum Vooruit (Ghent, Belgium).

In Marie Chouinard’s work, The Rite of Spring occupies a special position. In choosing to reexamine this powerful hymn to life, she has created her first choreography based on a musical score. Igor Stravinsky’s. The Rite of Spring explores a New World and marks the entry of dance into modernity. In this avant-garde work, Marie Chouinard again finds an original pulsation that is essential to her movement. Far from contradicting the rhythm of her dance, the cadence and force of the music inspire, accompany and energize her, forming both the echo and the musical counterpoint of an organic, vigorous and vivid choreography.

For Marie Chouinard, all forms are the movement through space of a specific vital energy. Unlike previous choreographers working with Stravinsky’s piece, she constructed her Rite around solos, seeking to awaken in strong, clear movements the intimate mystery of each dancer.

“There is no story in my Rite”, she explains, “no development, no cause and effect. Only synchronicity. It is as if I were dealing with the very moment after the instant life first appeared. The performance is the unfolding of that moment. I have the feeling that before that moment there was an extraordinary burst of light, a flash of lightning.”

The COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD wishes to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.

The COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD is proud to be carbon neutral. Since 2020, the company has analyzed and offset the carbon footprint of its tours, its productions and its studios. The company supports the Quebec initiative, Carbone boréal, which reforests naturally deserted terrain in the boreal forests north of Lake Saint Jean. These are public lands which are protected by their designation as experimental forests in conjunction with the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks. This project is also used for scientific research.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Founded in 1990, the COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD (CMC) is now one of the pillars of international contemporary dance. Renowned for the singularity, power, and audacity of its choreographic language, the company performed on the world’s greatest stages — from the Americas to Europe by way of Asia.

While the company enjoys worldwide recognition, its story dates back to 1978, when Marie Chouinard presented her very first creation, Crystallization. This was followed by some thirty remarkable solo works performed on international stages, including Marie Chien Noir (1982), S.T.A.B (Space, Time and Beyond) (1986), and L’Après-midi d’un faune (1987). In 1991, she created her first group piece, Les Trous du ciel, marking the beginning of an exceptional series of group pieces.

Since its inception, the CMC has been welcomed by prestigious institutions such as the Festival d’Avignon, Sadler’s Wells, Lincoln Center, ImPulsTanz, the Venice Biennale, and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. Its renowned co-producers include the Venice Biennale, the ImPulsTanz Festival (Vienna), the Gulbenkian Foundation (Lisbon), the Fondazione Musica Per Roma (Rome), Danse Danse (Montreal), the NAC (Ottawa), and the FTA. To date, the company has presented its works in over 280 cities across 45 countries.

Marie Chouinard has created over a hundred works — choreographies, performances, installations, and films — and her repertoire currently includes around fifteen pieces actively touring worldwide. Among the most emblematic are MAGNIFICAT, « M », RADICAL VITALITY, 24 Preludes by Chopin, bODY_rEMIX, (soft) VIRTUOSITY, Le Cri du monde, Étude no 1, and Henri Michaux : Mouvements. Her Rite of Spring, performed without interruption since 1993, is considered a classic in contemporary dance history.

Eight of her works are also in the repertoire of major international companies, including The National Ballet of Canada, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, the Martha Graham Dance Company, Gauthier Dance, Companhia de dança São Paulo, Les 7 Doigts, and the GöteborgsOperan.

Marie Chouinard’s work has received numerous distinctions: her name appears in Le Petit Larousse (2010) and Le Robert (2011), and she is the recipient of some thirty major awards, including:

Bessie Award for Sustained Achievement, New York (2000)

Governor General’s Performing Arts Award of Canada (2003)

Denise-Pelletier Award (2010)

Positano Award, Italy (2016)

Walter Carsen Prize (2016)

Officière des Arts et des Lettres, France (2020)

Marie Chouinard is the founder of the Prix de la danse de Montréal (2011), and from 2017 to 2020, she served as the Director of Dance at the Venice Biennale.

Recent years have been particularly prolific, with new works for the stage, virtual reality projects, participatory online performances, and preparations for a major solo exhibition.

The COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD continues to relentlessly explore the expressive power of the moving body, carrying forward the voice of a creation that is free, vibrant, and radically alive.

WHO’S WHO IN THE COMPANY

MARIE CHOUINARD was born in Quebec. At the age of 16, she spent four months alone in Percé, a seaside village in the Gaspé Peninsula known for its iconic rock formation, an experience that would transform her life. As a choreographer, she traveled the world as a solo performer for 12 years before founding the COMPAGNIE MARIE CHOUINARD in 1990. Her works, radical and deeply resonant, with a singular signature, have stood the test of time and are part of the repertoires of major international ballet companies. She is also a director (films, apps, virtual reality works), an author (Zéro Douze, Chantiers des extases), and a visual artist (photography, drawings, installations, performance). She creates choreographic works for site-specific installations, for the screen, and in real-time for the web. She was named an Officière des Arts et des Lettres in France, is a Bessie Award recipient in New York, and has a star on the Walk of Fame in Sibiu, Romania. She has received some thirty of the most prestigious awards and honors. In 2011, she founded the Prix de la Danse de Montréal, and from 2017 to 2020, she served as Director of Dance at the Venice Biennale. Marie Chouinard is currently preparing a solo exhibition of her visual and performance works (2027).
