t’s exciting to reflect upon the successes of the last year – thanks to the generous
support of individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community. In 2017, Atrium Health Foundation raised $30.3 million, well surpassing our $24 million goal! Atrium Health benefited from signature events such as the Levine Children’s Gala and new events supporting behavioral health and neurosciences. We raised millions to support endowed chair positions, which enable Atrium Health to retain and recruit the brightest talent. And we ramped up online fundraising and grateful patient fundraising efforts. With support from Atrium Health Foundation, Atrium Health is developing novel treatments, offering clinical trials right here in our community, establishing new programs for heart and kidney patients, and creating world-class facilities. SANDRA AND LEON LEVINE $4 MILLION LEVINE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, LEVINE CANCER INSTITUTE
Atrium Health received a $4 million commitment from Sandra and Leon Levine in December 2017 to provide support for both Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital. Each facility received $2 million to be allocated to areas in the most critical need of support. Over the last 15 years, when Sandra and Leon Levine have seen an opportunity to enhance healthcare

services within the community, they have stepped forward to make it happen. Their transformational gifts to build both Levine Children’s Hospital and Levine Cancer Institute, as well as fund the Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center and the Sandra and Leon Levine Psychiatry Residency Program – have helped ensure that patients have access to the finest care, close to home. With the announcement of Sandra and Leon’s latest gift, the Levines and their foundation have now contributed over $70 million to enhance medical programs, build new facilities, and bring clinical innovations

Balloon sales soared and so did patients’ spirits at Levine Children’s Hospital in 2017, thanks to generous support from the national partnership with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. From balloon icon sales to bake sales; haircuts to hotels; to radio and retail, the collective grassroots efforts of participating local partners resulted in more than $3.4 million for programs, equipment, and resources at Levine Children’s Hospital. Topping the list of supporters, once again, were Atrium Health employees, who collectively raised over $1.6 million to support patients and families at Levine Children’s through their annual giving campaign. In mid-2017, The Leon Levine Foundation continued its legacy of giving to Atrium Health with a $2 million
Half of the gift was designated to establish the Cancer Research Innovations Fund, which will advance a broad spectrum of novel research projects conceived by Institute physicians. From enhancing stem cell transplant outcomes, to improving the efficacy of immunotherapy treatments, to predicting the likelihood of relapse in patients undergoing initial treatments for lymphoma – the fund will have a profound impact on research efforts at the Institute. The second portion of the Foundation’s contribution created a Cancer Care Disparities Fund, which will work to overcome disparities in cancer care and prevention services provided to specific at-risk populations. With this support, Levine Cancer Institute can deliver the highest level of cancer treatment and prevention services to patients regardless of

Patients and care teams at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute are sure to benefit from the Mattei Foundation’s $1 million gift in 2017, which launched the Mattei Cardiovascular Innovations Fund. The family’s latest donation will enable the Institute to pursue newer treatments aimed at attaining not only longer life, but also higher quality of life for all patients. “We are honored to continue support for an institution that is dedicated to helping patients control and prevent potentially fatal diseases,” said Jim Mattei. “It is our desire to help make a significant impact and to ensure that people from all walks of life have access to quality care.” In recognition of the gift, the newly renovated Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit within the Institute now bears the Mattei name. With the Mattei Foundation’s latest commitment to help usher in a new era of cardiovascular treatment, the family’s cumulative gifts to Atrium Health now total more than $4 million.

ISABELLA SANTOS FOUNDATION $1 MILLION MIBG TREATMENT ROOM — LEVINE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
In March, one of the area’s most prominent childhood cancer advocates – the Isabella Santos Foundation – announced a generous commitment of $1 million in support of a new MIBG Treatment Suite at Levine Children’s Hospital. This lead-lined patient room and adjoining room for parents and caregivers – will deliver specialized targeted radiation therapy, ensuring that families will no longer have to travel long distances to receive MIBG care. The treatment is found in only 20 children’s hospitals nationwide and is slated to open at LCH in late 2018. This latest gift from the Isabella Santos Foundation represents a new milestone in a tremendous history of giving championed by the Santos family since 2012. All of their great work honors Isabella – a little girl who adored big fancy dresses – and who lost her battle with cancer at the age of seven. Her legacy lives on, as countless daughters and sons in the Charlotte area will have access to world-class care, close to home.

THE HEARTEST YARD FUND $775,000
The HEARTest Yard Fund pledged in 2017 to support a new cardiac neurodevelopmental program at Levine

Children’s Hospital, which will become the most comprehensive program of its kind in the Southeast. The HEARTest Yard, founded by Carolinas Panthers All-Pro tight end Greg Olsen and his wife, Kara, provides families of infants treated for severe or complex congenital heart disease at Levine Children’s Hospital with services including in-home, private nursing care, physical therapy and speech therapy at no charge. As their own son who was born with a congenital heart defect has grown, Greg and Kara realized a need for additional programs and services to ensure “heart babies” can reach their fullest potential. Beyond the physical challenges, up to 50 percent of pediatric heart surgery patients may have neurodevelopmental deficits during

their lifetime. The cardiac neurodevelopmental program at Levine Children’s Hospital will address these challenges head-on as heart babies grow from toddlers to teens.

In 2017, the late Bob Douglas funded three projects at Carolinas HealthCare System – and changed innumerable lives in the process. Douglas, a resident of Kihei, Hawaii, donated $100,000 to the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Fund and $258,000 to support the establishment of the Pediatric Cancer Research Laboratory, which will open at Levine Cancer Institute in late 2018. Douglas also made it possible for babies leaving the Neonatal Intensive & Progressive Care Nurseries to go full steam ahead with the creation of two unique train carts that ceremoniously transport babies out of the unit. First connected to these important causes through NASCAR’s Martin Truex Jr. (Furniture Row Racing) and Martin’s partner, Sherry Pollex, who is an ovarian cancer survivor, Bob Douglas will be remembered as a man who left a lasting imprint on the hearts and lives of our patients for many years to come. Generous colleagues, patients, and friends came together to recognize Dr. Francis Robicsek in a special way, donating $3.5 million to create an endowed chair in his name. The Francis Robicsek, MD, PhD Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery at Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute will enable Sanger to recruit, support, and retain the most talented cardiovascular surgeons from around the world. To honor both his international and local impact on healthcare, a dinner in Dr. Robicsek’s honor was held in

April 2017, during which the first endowed chair – Dr. Joseph McGinn – was announced. Although he stopped operating in 1998, Dr. Robicsek – who at age 92 is on his 62nd year with Atrium Health – dedicates his time to the International Medicine Outreach program, which now serves thousands of patients in 28 countries worldwide.

In September, the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation announced a charitable commitment of $2 million to Atrium Health. The foundation’s gift allowed for the endowment of a chair focusing on research and academic pursuits at Levine Children’s Hospital. Taking the helm as the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorders is Javier Oesterheld, MD. Dr. Oesterheld is the Specialty Medical Director at the Levine Children’s Hospital Torrence E. Hemby, Jr. Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplant Center. Gordon’s latest gift is part of an established legacy of support for the community’s children – one rivaled only by his impressive NASCAR record.

ALEX HEMBY FOUNDATION $1.5 MILLION
In December 2017, the Alex Hemby Foundation established a $1.5 million endowed chair in supportive oncology at Levine Cancer Institute. This transformational gift will help distinguish Levine Levine Cancer Institute is one of the very few cancer centers in the world that operates a dedicated Department of Supportive Oncology. For nearly 70 years, the Hemby Family name has been synonymous with healthcare philanthropy in Charlotte. The family’s philanthropic legacy, initiated by Hilda and Torrence Hemby in the early 1950s, now lives on through the Alex Hemby Foundation. Their latest gift follows many other commitments that have taken healthcare to new levels in this region, such as launching Carolinas Medical Center’s Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute and the Hilda Hemby Medical Intensive Care Unit, as well as establishing the Torrence Hemby Pediatric Hematology Oncology Center at Levine Children’s Hospital. contributions to the NASCAR community throughout his iconic career, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Speedway Children’s Charities established the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Concussion Research Fund at Carolinas Healthcare System’s Levine Children’s Hospital. The $100,000 gift supports ImPACT baseline concussion testing for more than 10,000 student athletes at middle schools, high schools, and athletic associations in five area counties. Mooresville High School – which Earnhardt attended – will be included in the comprehensive program, that will also fund cutting-edge “blink reflexometry” research – which uses a person’s blinking reflexes to diagnose concussions. Additionally, the gift will support local concussion awareness seminars for parents, students, coaches, and pediatricians.

research initiatives associated with the bladder cancer program at Levine Cancer Institute. Funds will help advance the diagnosis and management of the disease and support projects that can lead to development of novel and effective treatment options for patients with bladder cancer. Levine Cancer Institute is the only center in the greater Charlotte area and western Carolinas that is actively engaged in a broad spectrum of bladder cancer research initiatives. PEDIATRIC NEPHROLOGY AND HYPE RTENSION PROGRAM As a clinical and research leader at Levine Children’s Hospital, Dr. Susan Massengill is helping to advance the field of pediatric nephrology. Under her leadership, Levine Children’s Hospital has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a “Best Children’s Hospital” in Nephrology for nine consecutive years and the hospital has established the Pediatric Nephrology Center of Excellence. Throughout her career spanning more than two decades, Dr. Massengill has published more than 60 articles and abstracts concerning several renal diseases. Last year, an anonymous $1 million donation formally established the Nephrology Center of Excellence at Levine Children’s Hospital, which supports: public education and awareness; the creation of child-friendly tools that make living a healthy lifestyle easy and affordable for patients and caregivers; research that will be made available to medical professionals nationwide; and the development of medical collaborations to make specialized clinical trials, and other treatments and medical resources, available to patients. FIRST SARCOMA-SPECIFIC CLINICAL TRIALS Because sarcomas are relatively rare among children – and even more so among adults – they lack the government funding that other cancers often receive. This is why philanthropic support is so critical to funding clinical trials aimed at finding a cure. Under the direction of Dr. Edward S. Kim, the first sarcoma-specific clinical trials are being offered across the Levine Cancer Institute network. These trials, which are directly supported by funds from the Paula Takacs Foundation for Sarcoma Research, involve novel therapies and provide a second chance for patients who are battling this devastating disease. Research funding provided by the Paula Takacs Foundation is also helping Levine Cancer Institute improve the treatment and prevention of sarcoma

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE Dr. Tcheremissine and his patients, like Peter Oosterhuis—a highly celebrated professional golfer and acclaimed broadcaster who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease in 2014—are benefiting directly from the Carolinas Alzheimer’s Disease Fund, which is supporting clinical research at Atrium Health. “Every 63 seconds there is a patient diagnosed with Alzheimer’s,” said Dr. Tcheremissine. Although there is currently no cure for the disease, his research team is testing certain drugs in hopes of modifying the trajectory of the illness. Fundraising through events such as the Peter Oosterhuis Championship continue to support patient programs and vital clinical research at Atrium Health to one day overcome this devastating disease. MIBG TREATMENT/NEUROBLASTOMA Thanks to the generous support of one of the area’s most prominent child cancer advocates – the Isabella Santos Foundation – a novel treatment known as MIBG (or metaiodobenzylguanidine) will be used by oncologists at Levine Children’s Hospital to deliver targeted radiation to treat patients with neuroblastomas, one of the most common forms of childhood cancer. Through the Isabella Santos Foundation’s commitment of $1 million, a new MIBG Treatment Suite on Level 11 of Levine Children’s Hospital will enhance the world-class cancer care made available to patients at Levine Children’s Hospital, ensuring that local families will no longer have to travel long distances to receive this novel treatment for neuroblastoma. In addition, the availability of the MIBG Treatment Suite will allow for research studies aimed at testing the effectiveness of early MIBG treatment regimens. Designed to treat neuroblastoma, a cancer of the blood cells, MIBG is delivered through a 2-hour infusion and absorbed by tumor cells which are destroyed while sparing the normal, healthy tissue. The new MIBG suite at Levine Children’s Hospital will have two connected rooms: the main room where patients stay, which will have lead built into the walls to prevent radiation from escaping; and the anteroom for parents and caregivers, where they can remain near their child, but with limited exposure time to radiation. OVARIAN CANCER Thanks to the fundraising success of the annual Stiletto Sprint, which benefits the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Fund at Levine Cancer Institute, an outstanding team of physicians and scientists at LCI under the direction of Ram Ganapathi, PhD, FAAS, and David Tait, MD are able to pursue innovative new paths of research. Together, they are working toward early detection and treatment of ovarian cancer. Bolstered by the success of the Stiletto Sprint fundraising event—and most recently, the establishment of the James B. Hall, M.D. Endowed Lectureship in Gynecologic Oncology—these important research activities have been most notably supported by local businessman “ H. C. HEMATOLOGIC ONCOLOGY AND BLOOD DISORDERS Philanthropic support gives researchers like Dr. Edward Copelan the academic and scientific freedom to pursue ideas that can move medical science forward and lead to novel therapies. Dr. Copelan is leading a research and treatment team at Levine Cancer Institute as the first Kerry and Simone Vickar Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Hematologic Oncology and Blood Disorders, the result of a commitment of $2 million made by the Kerry and Simone Vickar Family Foundation. As the need for comprehensive cancer care in the region continues to grow, philanthropic support of the Levine Cancer Institute network by donors such as the Vickars will help ensure that patients have access to the best care available, regardless of where they live.

CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY The inaugural Francis Robicsek, MD, PhD Endowed Chair in Cardiovascular Surgery, Dr. Joseph McGinn is best known for developing and pioneering the minimally invasive cardiac surgery/coronary artery bypass grafting procedure, now called the McGinn Technique. The endowed chair will provide him with funds to support innovative research, educational opportunities, and/or special projects. Generous colleagues, patients, and friends donated a remarkable $3.5 million to create the endowed chair in Dr. Robicsek’s name. PLASMA CELL DISORDERS AND HIGH-RISK MULTIPLE MYELOMA Saad Zafar Usmani, MD, FACP is the Director of the Plasma Cell Disorder program and the Director of Clinical Research in Hematologic Malignancies at Levine Cancer Institute. A key member of the Bone Marrow Transplantation team, Dr. Usmani is conducting clinical and translational research on plasma cell disorders and high-risk multiple myeloma. With generous support from donors such as the Britton Foundation and their family, and the Heineman Foundation of Charlotte, Dr. Usmani continues to advance his research and elevate Levine Cancer Institute’s national role in the transformation of cancer care. Dr. Usmani was also the recent recipient of The Clinical Career Scholar Award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society , which is designed to recognize clinicians who are playing a lead role in advancing new therapies for blood cancer patients. By exploring the use of newly approved drugs in three clinical trials, Dr. Usmani’s research project is pioneering the development of life-extending therapies for multiple myeloma patients. LEVINE CHILDREN’S GALA More than 500 guests attended the 3rd Annual Levine Children’s Gala in 2017, celebrating the hospital’s 10th anniversary and raising nearly $2.5 million for patients treated at Levine Children’s Hospital. In a surprise presentation to Gene Woods, President and CEO of Atrium Health, honorary gala chair Leon Levine announced a $1 million challenge gift designated for the broad benefit of Levine Children’s Hospital. Mr. Levine then announced that his children – Lori and Eric Sklut, Julie and Howard Levine, and Amy and Alfred Dawson – had committed $250,000 to jump-start the match. The challenge was met with enthusiasm by gala guests, including representatives from Levine Children’s Hospital, as well as national and local celebrities, professional athletes, philanthropists, and corporate supporters. In addition to PNC, major gala sponsors were UTC Aerospace, SunEnergy1, US Trust, Barings, and Brighthouse Financial. Actress Angie Harmon, along with Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen, co-emceed the event. Rick and Linda Hendrick, who supported the original campaign for Levine Children’s Hospital with a multimillion dollar gift in memory of their son Ricky Hendrick, offered the evening’s second big surprise, announcing a $750,000 gift to complete the $1 million match – all in one evening. Other donors also made substantial gifts, allowing the hospital to exceed the challenge amount. Funds raised will be designated to substantially enhance the hospital’s bone marrow transplant services.

PETER OOSTERHUIS CHAMPIONSHIP On May 5, 2017, legendary British golfer Peter Oosterhuis and fellow participants teed off to support the Carolinas Alzheimer’s Disease Fund, as part of the inaugural Peter Oosterhuis Championship. Those in attendance included award-winning CBS sports announcer Jim Nantz, CBS golf broadcaster Peter Kostis, and former CBS broadcaster and golf instructor Bobby Clampett. The event raised awareness for the disease and garnered proceeds of more than $340,000. This funding will support Alzheimer’s disease research at Atrium Health, where Peter currently receives treatment. A highly celebrated professional golfer and broadcaster whose illustrious career included 20 worldwide wins, Peter was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease in 2014. The diagnosis brought an untimely end to his broadcasting career, but since, Oosterhuis has dedicated his time to promoting awareness and raising funds for Alzheimer’s research and patient support services.
HOPEBUILDERS 5K On November 19, more than 1,000 Levine Children’s Hospital supporters, including many former patients, took part in the annual Hopebuilders 5K, which raises money for Levine Children’s Hospital. Now in its 21st year, the Hopebuilders 5K has become a time-honored tradition for many grateful families who have been served by Levine Children’s Hospital, as well as hospital staff and supporters of all ages. Barings (previously Babson Capital Management, LLC.) continued their support as presenting sponsor for the ninth consecutive year. In addition, UTC Aerospace Systems, Morris-Jenkins, and teams led by Levine Children’s physicians Amina Ahmed and Niraj Patel, as well as CMC’s Rebecca Usadi were out in full force.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH LUNCHEON Jane Pauley is not only an acclaimed journalist and author – but also one of millions of Americans dealing with mental illness. On September 12, Pauley detailed her experience with bipolar disorder to an audience of 200 at Myers Park Country Club, as part of an inaugural behavioral health luncheon. Presented by AccessOne, the Howard R. Levine Foundation, and Lori and Eric Sklut, the luncheon generated more than $150,000 to support the Carolinas Behavioral Health Advancement Fund. Proceeds from the luncheon will be used to improve Atrium Health’s Charlotte-based behavioral health center – the Charlotte Metro area’s only outpatient behavioral health program and psychiatric emergency department – and to underwrite suicide prevention programs and efforts to educate the community about mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

LA RAZA 106.1 RADIOTHON In 2017, Charlotte Hispanic radio station La Raza 106.1 raised $145,000 for Levine Children’s Hospital, as part of the annual Radiothon “Milagros Para Los Niños.” Funds raised in the 2017 radiothon, which increased by 28 percent over the previous year’s donation total, will fund medical equipment, patient services, and research to save and improve the lives of children in the Charlotte region. Now in its sixth year, the radiothon was broadcast live from the hospital’s Ryan Seacrest Studios. La Raza 106.1 listeners were moved by stories of hope shared by families of former and current patients from the Hispanic community. On-air favorites like La Raza’s popular morning show hosts on Los Hijos de la Mañana, and Alex Ruiz, also motivated listeners to call in substantial donations to the hospital.
SECRET SANTA RADIOTHON It’s no secret: children have a special place in the hearts of the Kiss95.1 morning team – and Dewey Jenkins, owner of local heating, A/C and plumbing company, Morris-Jenkins. When they teamed up in December for the sixth annual Secret Santa Radiothon, the results were unprecedented. Thanks to compelling stories of hope and healing, listeners were inspired to contribute a record $105,000 to provide holiday gifts for hospitalized children and to support the medical resources and patient services that make Levine Children’s Hospital a destination for world-class care.
JEANS, GENES, AND GENIUSES Since 2008, local philanthropists Jane and Luther Lockwood, along with their daughter Jane, have led a highly successful fundraising initiative—Jeans, Genes, and Geniuses—to benefit the McColl-Lockwood Laboratory for Muscular Dystrophy Research at Carolinas Medical Center, one of the leading facilities in the world dedicated to finding a cure for Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD). Daughter Jane was diagnosed with the disease when she was just five years old. Since that time, her family has advocated for a cure and raised funds for all who suffer from this disease. Gifts made to their Jeans, Genes and Geniuses fundraising events chiefly benefit a bi-annual International Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Research Conference, hosted in Charlotte, which brings together experts from across the globe to specifically address the latest research initiatives likely to deliver a cure for LGMD. The 2017 event raised north of $100,000 to advance LGMD research.

STILETTO SPRINT The 7th annual Stiletto Sprint began with a moment of silence and ended with more than $100,000 raised for Levine Cancer Institute. At the event in South Park’s Symphony Park, survivors, advocates, caregivers, family and friends, sprinted 70yards in heels to raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers at Atrium Health. WBTV anchor Micah Smith hosted the event, representing the news station’s longstanding commitment to the cause. Bissell Companies, TESARO, Teal Butterfly Challenge, Clovis Oncology, WBTV, Dr. Marie-Claire Marroum, and Stiletto Sprint committee members, volunteers, sponsors and supporters all contributed to the event’s success.
KEEP POUNDING 5K The 2017 Keep Pounding 5K included more than 1,000 cancer advocates, survivors, volunteers, and donors, raising more than $100,000 to benefit adult and pediatric cancer research and support programs at Levine Cancer Institute and Levine Children’s Hospital. The 7th annual race, which finished on the Carolinas Panthers practice field, was presented by Rodgers. Adding to the festivities, Sir Purr, TopCats, Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano, and former player Mike Rucker all participated in the event. The Panthers have a long history of supporting Atrium Health’s cancer programs through Keep Pounding – a campaign established in 2004 to honor former players Sam Mills and Mark Fields, who had both been recently diagnosed with cancer.
SPEAK PINK LUNCHEON The inaugural Speak PINK luncheon brought together patients past and present, philanthropists and physicians to raise funds and awareness for local breast cancer programs and research. The inaugural event, sponsored by Charlotte Radiology and hosted by Atrium Health Foundation, took place at the Ritz Carlton in Uptown Charlotte. The luncheon featured Greg Olsen and his mom, Susan Olsen, a 17-year breast cancer survivor as well as Moira Quinn, COO of Charlotte Center City Partners and a breast cancer survivor herself. The first annual Speak PINK raised more than $100,000 for the Foundation’s Carolinas Breast Cancer Fund. This fund supports breakthrough breast cancer research conducted by physicians and scientists at Levine Cancer Institute. In addition, it provides funding for Project PINK, a program in partnership with Charlotte Radiology that offers accessible breast cancer screenings for lower income women.

LEVINE JCC KIDS TRIATHLON Kids, parents – and a Panther or two – gathered June 5, 2017 for the 5th Annual Levine JCC Kids Triathlon, in the process raising more than $180,000 for rehabilitation services at Levine Children’s Hospital and the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program (ASAP) at Carolinas Rehabilitation. Before the event, participants raised money through bake sales, family and friends and yard sales; The Leon Levine Foundation also contributed to the impressive fundraising total. The foundation announced a $20,000 grant in support of the cause, after Kids Triathlon supporters surpassed the event’s initial $70,000 fundraising goal. Carolina Panthers All-Pro tight end Greg Olsen attended the event and cheered on participants, which included many ASAP athletes and children of all ages and athletic abilities.
CYCLE TO THE SEA Two days, 35 cyclists, 180 miles, and $73,000 raised – those are the numbers for the 2017 Cycle to the Sea, a flagship awareness and fundraising event for the Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program (ASAP) at Carolinas Rehabilitation. But as impressive as that math is, the people behind those numbers are even more awe-inspiring. Of the 35 cyclists who traveled an average of 60 miles a day, many did so using only the strength of their arms and upper body, with our top fundraiser, Brian Muscerella, raising more than $23,000 alone for ASAP. The cyclists, who left Charlotte on April 6, arriving in North Myrtle Beach, on April 8, marking the race’s 18th year in existence. Special thanks go to lead sponsor, Waypoint.
SAVE YOUR SKIN MELANOMA AWARENESS GOLF TOURNAMENT On June 5, 2017, physicians, survivors, and supporters gathered at Carmel Country Club to raise funds in support of melanoma research and prevention efforts at Levine Cancer Institute. The 12th Annual Save Your Skin Melanoma Awareness Golf Tournament, presented by Bank of America Merrill Lynch since its inception, raised north of $70,000.

CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE SYSTEM PINEVILLE GOLF INVITATIONAL In its 9th year, Carolinas Healthcare System’s Pineville Golf Invitational continued its strong fundraising record in 2017, raising over $65,000 to help Carolinas HealthCare System Pineville fulfill its mission of delivering advanced, personalized care to southern Mecklenburg, York, and Lancaster counties. Business leader and grateful patient Felix Sabates served as honorary chair of the event, which supports the 206-bed medical center that includes full-service cardiology, spine surgery, maternity, intensive care, and emergency services.
CUPID’S CUP 5K It’s amazing what a community can accomplish when its members put their hearts into it. On February 11, 2017, more than 700 runners and walkers in the 13th annual Cupid’s Cup race did just that, raising more than $40,000 for cardiac rehabilitation programs within Atrium Health. Participants in both the 5K and the 1-Mile Walk made their way through Charlotte’s historic Dilworth neighborhood as part of the fundraiser, the proceeds from which provide valuable support for patient education and outreach relating to cardiac rehabilitation.
CAROLINAS 4 A CURE BLADDER CANCER WALK The second annual Carolinas 4 A Cure Bladder Cancer Walk was attended by more than 100 cancer advocates and survivors, who collectively raised over $24,000 to benefit the Carolinas Bladder Cancer Fund at Levine Cancer Institute. The event, founded by the Salvino Family and supported generously by Genentech and 5MPower Foundation, benefits clinical research aimed at improving treatment options and outcomes for patients diagnosed with bladder cancer.

MORRIS-JENKINS Since partnering with Levine Children’s Hospital ten years ago, Morris-Jenkins has been touching the lives of thousands of its young patients. In 2008, the local heating, air conditioning and plumbing company made a 10-year financial commitment of $500,000 to underwrite the hospital’s Child Life Program, which is dedicated to restoring a sense of normalcy to the lives of hospitalized children. Additionally, Morris-Jenkins has funded the special recognition program designed to help patients celebrate special milestones, such as the end of chemotherapy, a successful transplant surgery, or a patient’s birthday. Leading the charge in the company’s support of the hospital is Dewey Jenkins, owner of Morris-Jenkins, who also serves as chair of the Children’s Hospital’s Board of Ambassadors.
