As North Carolina’s #1 children’s hospital, we’re developing new and innovative treatment for children, right here in Charlotte. Here’s examples what we did with your help to transform the landscape of care for kids:

Children who are admitted to rehab often have lost mobility due to a traumatic accident or disease process By using therapeutic virtual reality systems, children are able to visualize what it would be like to have mobility and therefore rebuild neurological and muscular function in areas that would otherwise be very difficult, if not impossible Because of philanthropy, we were able to purchase an XR Therapy system – a virtual reality system that includes a headset, tablet, and hand and leg controls to improve movement, chronic pain, anxiety, cognition, and balance.

Atrium Health Levine Children’s Cancer Atrium

Thanks to generous community support, Atrium Health Levine Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Program is consistently ranked as one of the top pediatric oncology programs in the country

The program includes an interdisciplinary team as well as the most innovative therapies available in the region. Levine Children’s Pediatric Oncology Research Lab is the headquarters of translational research led by an accomplished team of clinicians and research scientists. The 1,400 square foot facility serves as a global resource for pediatric cancer research and houses several state-of-the-art forms of research instrumentation, including cell culture facilities, molecular biology and biochemical assay equipment, and a cutting-edge mass cytometry core Because of donors like you, vital lab expenses were funded by philanthropy.

Atrium Health Foundation is dedicated to meeting the healthcare needs of underserved community members. Thanks to your support, we are able to assist patients and families facing the most challenging circumstances.

Because of donors like you, children in our community were able to attend Kid Doc Summer Camp, a four-day FREE [for the participant] enrichment program for elementary-age children from underrepresented communities. Kid Doc opens young minds to the possibility of becoming a medical doctor. Through fun, hands-on instruction led by physicians, the students learn about the potential of a career in medicine Since its inception in 2021, the camp has graduated over 180 students with support from more than 30 physicians.

Medical bills and long hospital stays can place significant emotional, physical, and financial stress on families whose child requires medical care Many patient families face financial barriers in addition to medical expenses, including the need for assistance with household bills, transportation, or temporary housing.

Donations to Atrium Health Levine Children’s support the special out-of-hospital needs for our patients such as transportation, housing and medication assistance. Your support in 2024 helped purchase gas cards for families of children with extended NICU stays to alleviate the financial burden of travel and ensure they could visit their babies. Families received over $8,000 worth of gas cards because of generous donors like you.

Through the Ella Floyd Fund, philanthropic support provided special care for heart failure and transplant families including rent and mortgage assistance, transportation assistance, nutritional supplements and food and adaptive equipment Because of donors like you, we were able to help families in need –like this one:

“There was a patient diagnosed with heart failure and was placed on the heart transplant list. He remains hospitalized until a heart becomes available. His dad works full time; however, mom is on unpaid leave to remain with him. The Ella Floyd Fund has kept them current with their mortgage and utility payments. This patient’s parents said that without this support, they would have lost their power and, most likely, their home.”

SO, KIDS CAN BE KIDS! SO, KIDS CAN BE KIDS!

At Atrium Health Levine Children’s, providing psychosocial and emotional support for hospitalized children is a top priority Child life specialists, pet therapy, music therapy and Arts for Life not only help our patients cope with their illness but help ensure a positive hospital experience. Mini-MRI Model Mini-MRI Model

All of the pokes and prods can be overwhelming and scary, especially for children. The Child Life team works with the clinical care team to help ease anxieties and create a sense of normalcy, whenever possible. Donations helped to purchase a mini-MRI scanner model to educate patients on what to expect during the imaging process.

Music Therapy Music Therapy

Led by board-certified music therapists, this program provides many benefits to our patients and families. Music therapy can shine a positive light on patients’ time in the hospital and help soothe them during difficult treatments. Donations directly supported the LCH Music Therapy team by funding specialized equipment required to provide daily patient care.
