The Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center

Behavioral Health is an essential part of Atrium Health’s ongoing commitment to treating the whole person and promoting wellness in all forms. In 2024, The Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center’s (MELBHC) team of caregivers and staff celebrated 10 years of providing inpatient and outpatient services to thousands of patients from throughout the region who struggle with behavioral health issues and substance abuse disorders. From programming and facility improvements, to community outreach and patient support, to educating and training medical residents, MELBHC teammates are committed to destigmatizing mental illness and increasing awareness of behavioral health issues.

Making an Impact

Every day at the MELBHC, we see firsthand the positive results the Center has on our patients, their families, and our staff. As a direct result of the Levine family’s generosity, Atrium Health continues to deliver the highest-quality care and resources to patients and community members. Thanks to your generous commitment to mental health, the MELBHC allows us to continue our mission to improve health, elevate hope, and advance healing – for ALL.

Atrium Health Behavioral Health Service Line will develop a transformative, clinically integrated, and sustainable system of high-quality, patient-and family-centered care to serve the Behavioral Health needs of patients, their families, and the community.

Facility Overview

• This 66-bed, state-of-the-art inpatient psychiatric hospital opened on April 7, 2014.

• The Center features 3 nursing units and all private rooms.

• The primary clinical focus is for the treatment of mood disorders, such as major depression and bipolar disorder.

• One unit specializes in maternal wellness for women struggling with mental illness during pregnancy.

• Hospitalists work 7 days on/7 days off, Tuesday – Monday.

• Facility amenities include patient comfort lounges on each unit, a gymnasium with exercise equipment, an outdoor courtyard with walking labyrinth, and a patient cafeteria.

• Clinical services include psychotherapists, social workers, occupational and recreational therapists, peer support, and animal-assisted therapy.

These accomplishments would not be possible without the generosity of the Levine family and The Leon Levine Foundation:

• Dedicated workstations for our resident physician learners

• New exercise bicycles in the gymnasium for patient use

• Renovation of patient comfort rooms to include new furnishings

Maternal Wellness Program

An innovative wellness program for mothers during and after pregnancy

• Weekly group therapy and individual counseling for expecting and new moms, both in-person and virtual.

• Year-over-year growth for four consecutive years

Internal Patient Transport Program

Three custom safety-upfitted transport vehicles, housed at the MELBHC, allow our behavioral health technicians to transport patients from acute care emergency department to our inpatient units in a safe and therapeutic manner.

This enhanced service has made a positive impact on having patients admitted to the behavioral health facility more quickly, and without the stigma of being transported by law enforcement, so they can begin their journey towards recovery.

Supporting Our Communities

Celebrating the MELBHC’s 10 years of service to the community

April 2024 marked the 10-year anniversary of the facility. In that time, we’ve had over 30,000 inpatient admissions and offered outpatient treatment to more than 87,000 patients.

The 10th anniversary celebration for the Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center was held in Davidson, North Carolina, on May 1, 2024 – the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month.

The anniversary and impact of the MELBH Center was highlighted across various news outlets, including The Business Journals and The Independent Tribune.

On behalf of the Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center, our patients, their families, and our teammates, we express our sincerest appreciation to the Levine family.

THANK YOU
