field are experts in integrating the latest technologies into your home, all based on a specification developed in consultation with you.

With the abundance of technology available today, it can

be overwhelming trying to decide what will truly enhance your home life. That’s why it’s crucial to enlist a professional who can carefully select and implement the best solutions for your unique needs. Just as you wouldn’t handle complex plumbing or car maintenance yourself, your home technology deserves the same expert care. Here, we take a look at some of the incredible options available—how many could improve your home life?

Home automation and control

While often implemented during a renovation or new build, home automation can also be retrofitted to existing homes. These systems allow you to manage entertainment, lighting, heating/cooling, energy usage, communication and security through a single, intuitive interface.

Music and movies everywhere

With a home control system, you can bring all your favourite music and video content to any room, whenever you need it. Whether it’s streaming TV, accessing the web, or enjoying your personal music and video collections, this technology makes it all accessible

at your fingertips, wherever you are in your home.

Smart lighting and shading

Lighting control systems not only enhance your home’s security and energy efficiency but also allow

you to set the perfect mood and aesthetic. Automated shading works hand-in-hand with lighting to manage natural light levels, improving both the comfort and privacy of your home while contributing to energy savings.

Intelligent security

Advanced security systems offer precise control over access to your property, enabling you to view CCTV footage and manage access remotely from anywhere. Intercom systems allow seamless communication within large homes, keeping everyone connected even when spread out.

Outdoor systems

Don’t forget your outdoor spaces! Today’s technology allows you to extend your entertainment and automation/lighting experiences into your garden or terrace. Whether you want to enjoy music, movies, or ambient lighting outdoors, the possibilities are endless.

Exterior spaces can be part of a smart home too

Home cinemas

Create the ultimate movie-watching experience with a dedicated home cinema. Whether designed for a purpose-built space or blended into your existing living area, home cinemas bring high-quality entertainment right to your doorstep. Enjoy concerts, sports, or films in the finest quality available today, with the ability to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Your system can either be integrated seamlessly into your room, only revealing itself when in use, or stand as a dedicated space that offers unparalleled escapism.

Hi-Fi listening rooms

If you’re a music lover, why not create the perfect space to enjoy your favourite albums? Expertly designed Hi-Fi listening rooms provide exceptional sound quality, whether you prefer vinyl, CDs, or high-definition streaming. With the blend of traditional audio craftsmanship and modern technology, today’s Hi-Fi systems offer a level of clarity and convenience that’s hard to beat.

Reliable networks

In the modern home, a dependable Wi-Fi or network is essential. Whether it’s streaming, gaming, or browsing, a fast and stable connection can make all the difference. Installing a robust network is key to ensuring your home’s systems run smoothly, allowing you to enjoy a flawless digital experience across all your devices. Say goodbye to slow speeds and buffering forever!

Pick what works for you

A whole-home system brings together cutting-edge entertainment, efficiency, and security technologies, making everything easy for your family to use and enjoy. However, it’s just as easy to start small and add individual systems like Multi-Room Music or Lighting Control. Talk to your installer to find the perfect fit for your home and budget— there’s a wide range of options available to suit your specific needs.

Home cinemas can be woven into even the most aesthetically ambitious spaces

A Smart Investment

Intelligent Homes explains why a smart home isn’t just smart living – it’s a smart investment for the long term.

A modern smart home offers real lifestyle benefits that can improve family life, enhance entertainment and these days, even increase the value of your property. According to recent research from global consumer electronics company and creator of the SmartThings platform, Samsung and also by CEDIA (trade association for the smart home sector), more people than ever are recognising the long-term advantages of investing in smart home systems, but are also reaping longer term benefits.

Whether it’s lighting that sets the mood for family movie nights, heating that adjusts to your daily routine or whole-home audio systems that bring your favourite music into every room, the benefits for day-to-day

living are undeniable. But what’s even more compelling is the fact that a professionally designed and installed smart home system can make your home not just a nicer place to live, but also more attractive to future buyers.

Lifestyle benefits the whole family can enjoy

At the heart of any great smart home is a desire to simplify life. Smart lighting, for example, can adjust automatically based on the time of day or who’s at home. It can create cosy scenes in the evening, switch off automatically at bedtime and even help with energy efficiency. Smart heating and shading solutions ensure

your home is always at the right temperature, saving money without compromising comfort.

Then there’s the entertainment factor. Smart home systems can transform the way you watch, listen and enjoy time together as a family. Multi-room audio systems allow different members of the household to enjoy their own music in different areas, or bring everyone together with a house-wide playlist. Home cinemas have become increasingly popular, offering the big screen experience without the need to leave your living room. Integrated control systems bring everything together with ease, so everyone can get the most from the technology, no matter their level of tech-savviness.

The Art Of Precision Audio

Experience sound like never before with TPI—where aerospace engineering meets high-fidelity audio. Designed for those who demand exceptional clarity, depth, and precision, TPI’s expertly crafted systems bring every movie, song, and performance to life with breathtaking realism. Adding tangible value to your property

While the lifestyle perks are easy to appreciate, it’s the long-term investment case that’s becoming harder to ignore. A recent CEDIA survey shows that 86% of homeowners believe smart home technology makes a property more appealing. In fact, 73% of those surveyed said a smart home would be more desirable than a nonconnected equivalent.

Samsung’s research goes one step further, revealing that consumers are willing to pay a 7.7% premium for a smart home. That could mean a significant boost to your property’s value, especially in competitive housing markets where buyers are looking for homes that stand out from the crowd. As younger, tech-savvy generations begin to make up a larger proportion of homebuyers, the demand for connected living is only set to increase.

A home you may never want to leave

One of the most interesting takeaways from both surveys is the emotional attachment that smart homes can create. When systems are designed with the user in mind, the result is a home that truly works for you. Everyday tasks become easier, environments more personalised and time spent at home more enjoyable. A well-integrated smart home becomes more than the sum of its parts – it becomes a sanctuary.

It’s no surprise, then, that many homeowners find it difficult to imagine moving once their smart systems are in place. But should the time come to relocate, a smart home is a strong selling point. From energysaving automations to integrated security systems and voice-controlled convenience, these are features that set a property apart.

Designed to impress –and last

Of course, not all smart homes are created equal. The key to getting the most from your investment is working with professionals who understand how to design, install and support systems that are reliable, scalable and intuitive to use. With the right foundation in place, a smart home can grow with your family’s needs and continue to deliver value for years to come.

In short, smart home technology is no longer just about gadgets and convenience. It’s about creating a better way to live while making a sound financial decision. The future of the housing market is smart – and now is the time to make your home part of it.

Sky’s the Limit!

Amit Saini, Director at BitCloud Automation, a specialist in smart home and luxury entertainment experiences, provides a tour of this fantastic and highly intelligent home created to enhance every aspect of the customer’s life.

Amit explains, “This was a new client who engaged us to bring together a disparate amalgamation of technology that had accumulated over time through several suppliers. Initially, the system was cohesive when the house was newly built; however, as more technology was added over a period of 10 years, the system became a collection of isolated implementations, controlled by their own dedicated apps.

“The client wanted a consistent way to control their home, despite there being an array of different control technologies in use, which they could access remotely when away from the property. They also wanted the house to function in a more automated manner, such as reacting to the environment and maintaining the perfect ambience without intervention.”

The Elan home automation system, created by global technology

company Nice, was chosen as the overarching system to bring everything under control and provide an intuitive interface for the family. A dedicated touchscreen interface is positioned centrally, allowing the family to control all aspects of the house, from playing music and switching TVs on and off to controlling the heating. However, the sophistication of the Elan system means that many aspects of the home’s functionality occur automatically. The system reacts to the weather and time of day, opening and closing blinds and windows, adjusting lighting and performing many other tasks. Special ‘scenes’ can be accessed at the touch of a button for specific activities.

As the project progressed, the customer, under advice from the install team, decided to add a centralised 4K HDTV distribution service (encompassing BT TV, Apple

TV and a Roku player) for viewing in multiple locations. This offers access to all the family’s favourite viewing options and significantly reduces the amount of hardware needed at the screen, with all equipment housed in a central rack hidden away.

Additionally, the client wanted to update their kids’ den with the introduction of a new OLED TV and soundbar, allowing either of their two gaming consoles to be played on the screen or independently on dedicated monitors. Additional automation brought the customer’s hot water system and Velux blinds and windows under the control of the new centralised automation system.

The exterior of the property also received a makeover, offering the family a complete outdoor entertainment and relaxation space. The new garden incorporates a pool, a hot tub, an ice bath, an outdoor kitchen and lounge, all housed in a glass-fronted pergola, along with two further zoned areas of formal lawn space and woodland. The family can now enjoy exterior viewing and listening options, as well as spectacular automated lighting. This area also offers heating options, a CCTV system, Ring security cameras, exterior networking capability, and access control for three new gates added to the property. The pool house is also automated to manage changes in humidity and temperature levels.

Amit explains, “We also added a new smart remote, providing the convenience of voice control and integration with the house services, meaning that even outside, the client could control every aspect of their

home. Alongside the TV, background music capability was a must, so we used Sonos’ outdoor range of speakers to extend the system already enjoyed throughout the house. The pergola lighting, pergola roof louvres and heating are all integrated into the system, allowing automation and triggering of these functions through any home control interface.”

There is also a poolside sound system using Klipsch speakers, offering immersive audio for this space and working in harmony with the rest of the audio system.

The exterior lighting system is of particular note, highlighting specific areas of interest and allowing the space to take on a whole new ambience after dark. Predefined scenes to suit any mood or occasion can be accessed with ease.

Home office spaces these days do not need to be dull, functional areas. BitCloud Automation upgraded the customer’s workspace by installing two massive 49in widescreen monitors mounted on hydraulic lifting arms and an electric rising platform table, allowing the client to work either seated or standing.

As is common in the smart home world, the project evolved as it progressed, and the BitCloud team adapted the plan to include fresh ideas that emerged. The end result is a home that truly enhances every aspect of the family’s life.

Spectacular exterior lightning brings the nightlife alive

Amit adds, “Another nice feature we added was a customised home automation interface themed specifically for the house. There was a strong design theme of industrial steel in the house and garden, which we used as the basis for a bespoke user interface. We also included images of the various zones so that when controlling specific rooms, users would have a visual representation rather than just a textual name.”

Smart home installers always go the extra mile for customers, and just one example here was bringing a full sound system onto the site for the pool area so the family could hear just how good it was before committing to the plan.

So, what does the customer think of their new home? Amit explains, “They love having control of their home back. Fundamentally, a home has to function before all the niceties are added, so having peace of mind that their home is being managed effectively allows them to start enjoying the less mundane aspects and appreciate the great space and amenities they have created.”

“With home automation, I’m able to remotely control all aspects of my home whilst I’m away, giving me control at my fingertips and together

with tailored automated routine tasks, it saves me time, money and effort in an already hectic life. The smart home platform integrates seamlessly with my other devices, adding a layer of intelligence making it a truly smart home.

“One-touch mood lighting scenes enable me to create a tailored entertainment experience, all at my command, for both the inside and outside spaces in my home. Crystal-clear audio and vibrant visuals elevate the outdoor poolside space to make it truly unique awe-inspiring place to be.”

Amit also underlines the help and support of other contractors and suppliers involved in the project. Building and Landscaping was by ESSE Landscapes, Electrics by Nicholas Electrical and system driver development by Innovo. Equipment suppliers and distributors supporting the project were Indigo Distribution and Alltrade.

Storybook Home

Winner of the Best Integrated Home (Level 2) at the recent CEDIA Trade awards for the very best projects around, this smart home project by De Opera Domotica is a dream come true for the owners.

Deep in the Netherlands, where the gentle rustle of a nature reserve’s foliage blends into the realms of human habitation, a villa known as the Storybook Home merges ecological sensibilities with the forefront of technology. This residence is a showcase of how modern innovations can integrate seamlessly into natural aesthetics to forge a living space that is both technologically advanced and organically alluring. Crafted by the expertise of integrator De Opera Domotica, and envisioned by Architenbureau de Vries-Theunissen, with interiors by DESIGNA, this project has earned its recognition on the merit of integration and design alone.

Technology and the home fuse with the natural world around the building

The genesis of the Storybook Home was driven by a vision to construct a villa that would resonate as an integral part of its natural surroundings, as intrinsic as the trees and wildlife adjacent to it. For the client, his wife, their 18-year-old daughter, and their two dogs, the challenge was to embed sophisticated security, audio-visual and energy management systems while adhering to an ecological ethos. The design stipulated the exclusive use of natural materials and finishes, with a categorical exclusion of synthetic acoustic materials. This requirement led to pioneering approaches to acoustics, often pushing beyond traditional boundaries.

The villa’s architecture is a reflection of thoughtful design and meticulous planning. The basement houses technical rooms and a dedicated space for the dogs, a ground floor that merges effortlessly with the landscape, an upper floor that cleverly conceals technical equipment within or above the bedrooms, and a welcoming pool house complete with a swimming pool and jacuzzi. Every space in this home is crafted with purpose and precision. The oak beams in the attic presented a unique challenge, limiting space and necessitating ingenious solutions for the placement of equipment.

However, the project’s trajectory was not devoid of challenges. The onset of the pandemic resulted in the client and his family being locked down in Indonesia, delaying the project until the end of 2021. This interruption brought significant alterations upon their return. Originally, a wall and a large fabric folding door were planned to separate the cinema from the dining room. These were removed during construction to create an open space, introducing new challenges for audio and video performance. The seating area, initially destined to be filled with hammocks and bean bags, was transformed into a custom sofa arrangement, partially obstructing the speakers.

The home cinema space is one of the most popular areas to hang out

Security was a paramount concern for the client, who frequently travels to Indonesia. The solution was a robust, multi-faceted system that ensured unparalleled security during their absence. The system was designed to allow their daughter to host pool parties while restricting access to the rest of the house. Advanced monitoring of visitors and packages via cameras, coupled with an alarm system that activates if paths deviate from the main entrance, provided peace of mind. Additionally, a specialised ‘Dog Mode’ was incorporated, allowing the dog walking service to access the property without compromising

security. In case of an alarm, provisions were made for the dogs to roam freely, ensuring their safety and the security of the home.

The integration of technology within the Storybook Home is subtle yet profound. Motorised electric windows in the daughter’s bathroom and bedroom close automatically when the security system is armed. The removal of suspended ceilings in the bedrooms required innovative integration of heating, cooling and home automation equipment. Wireless curtains in the kitchen, controlled seamlessly from hidden units, epitomise the blend of technology and design.

All the technology in the home serves to make family life more enjoyable and harmonious

De Opera Domotica’s collaboration with Monitor Audio and other partners has ensured that every technological element of the home enhances its ecological and aesthetic values. This villa serves as a vivid example of what is achievable when cuttingedge technology is employed to complement and enhance ecological mindfulness, creating a living environment that is not only futuristic but also intimately connected to its natural setting.

Home Cinemas: The Favourite Room in the House!

Investing in an exciting high-performance home cinema system created by a member of the Home Cinema Alliance (HCA) offers a wealth of benefits. Combining all these advantages means our customers often report that the home cinema is everyone’s favourite room in the house.

High-quality fun!

First up, who doesn’t enjoy movies, music, sporting events and gaming at the highest possible standard?

Unfamiliar with what an HCA company can deliver? Then imagine all your favourite content presented in a

convenient, easy-to-control space where everything looks and sounds as good as it possibly can.

Our members use modern audio and visual formats such as 4K imaging and Dolby Atmos surround sound to offer a fully immersive experience, as good as, if not better than, any commercial cinema. This level of enjoyment and excitement is available across any content or activity you want, when you want it, right in the heart of your home.

Family time, relaxing time

We all know that families today can often be time-poor. Finding space in the day to relax with other family members or simply unwind can be hard to achieve. With a home cinema created by one of our members, seamlessly woven into the fabric of your home, this becomes second nature.

Home cinemas often become the most popular and favourite room in the house – here’s why.

Drop the needle.

Vinyl isn’t confined to the den anymore. Now, take your records for a spin around the whole house. DM NAX® Audio-over-IP Edge Devices let you hear any audio from any source — CDs, Bluetooth® audio, even vinyl records — in any room, with pristine quality. They’re the easiest way to share and enjoy the music you love. However. Wherever. Whenever. FREE YOUR VIBE.

Family movie nights, where the experience is so good it brings everyone together regardless of other commitments, become a regular occurrence. With everyone enjoying the content, you don’t just get to wind down and have fun – valuable time with the family is created in an often busy and distracting world. If the kids are all out or in bed, older family members can relax and get lost in a movie, discover the latest binge-worthy box set or take on that final challenging stage of a game.

Beautiful rooms

If you were imagining our members’ cinemas as purely functional spaces, high-performance but perhaps not the most attractive, think again. Our members work closely with interior designers and, of course, you, the customer, to create spaces that look and feel amazing – even when the system is turned off.

An HCA project starts with the principle that the space must be comfortable, well-designed and attractive before it can become an effective entertainment area. This holistic approach to design means that a home cinema often becomes not just the most fun room but also the most visually appealing.

Today’s integration techniques allow our members to create dedicated home cinema spaces that offer stunning interior design, including plush furnishings, as well as beautifully automated, controllable lighting and shading. The space may match the look and feel of the rest of the home or take on a particular theme – perhaps introducing a touch of Art Deco from the golden age of cinema.

Our members can also design systems that blend seamlessly into an existing living space. These remain completely hidden until called upon, so you can enjoy your favourite room – perhaps an elegant Georgian living room – with added high-performance entertainment options.

A place of tranquillity

These days, it can be hard to find ‘me time’ – a space to relax and reflect on life and what lies ahead. Many customers use their home cinemas for just that. Yoga, meditation and exercise can all be enhanced by the audio visual options available in a well-designed home cinema.

How about taking time to listen to a favourite album with some subtle low lighting? Another popular option. With the acoustic treatment, interior design and attention to detail that go into each HCA cinema, these rooms are

simply relaxing places to be. Even settling in with a good book on the cinema’s comfortable seating is a well-loved way to unwind.

We love creating dream home cinemas!

Melanie Malcolm, Director at Bespoke Home Cinemas, an award-winning integration company based in Leeds, explains, “In short, there are countless ways to use a home cinema beyond its main function of delivering outstanding high-performance entertainment. These rooms offer incredible versatility and bring families together in ways that go far beyond movies. It’s no wonder they often become the most loved room in the house!”

Talk to one of our members about starting your journey towards true 21st-century entertainment and relaxation.

This article is just one in a series of blogs written about all aspects of the wonderful world of home cinema. Check the others out on the HCA website.

Staying In Is The New Going Out!

Hidden within an enchanting Central London property is an immersive, private entertainment space that perfectly recreates authentic nightclub sound using a professional L-Acoustics system, installed by renowned UK-based installation company SMC.

Located in the heart of fashionable Holland Park, London, this impressive five-storey home seamlessly combines timeless elegance with advanced, user-friendly integrated audio-visual technology. As part of a significant renovation, the owner, a young music enthusiast with an affinity for the club scene, envisioned recreating the dynamic atmosphere of one of his favourite London nightspots within the luxury of his own home. The project demonstrates how L-Acoustics professional sound systems, typically found in world-class venues and nightclubs, can be expertly adapted for homes without compromising on power or audio quality.

With the brief to transform the house’s basement into an exclusive private bar and club, capable of hosting intimate gatherings as well

as club parties for up to 60 guests, Award-winning integrator, SMC recognised the audio solution would need to be capable of delivering exceptional power and immersive sound. At the same time, the customer was keen that the system would be

user-friendly for family and guests and integrate seamlessly within the interior aesthetic of the space. Several audio brands were considered during the evaluation phase, but one stood out above the competition for the customer.

Kevin Wilton, Managing Director at SMC, explains, “The client’s passion for the club music scene, combined with their innate sense of style, made it clear that we had to deliver something extraordinary. Having worked with L-Acoustics before, we knew their professional systems could deliver the authentic club sound the client wanted - the same calibre of audio found in top venues worldwide

- while still being simple to control and integrate within a residential space.”

The customer was invited to a demonstration at the L-Acoustics showroom in Highgate in North London and readily agreed.

“We stood together in a room where music was played at the SPL we were aiming to achieve – around 110dB,” says Kevin. “L-Acoustics achieved this effortlessly. You just

Professional grade audio equipment was used to create a home nightclub impact

can’t get that from other systems, without worrying something would go. But these speakers just handled it with no problem. What really blew us away was how precise, immersive, and versatile they were. L-Acoustics showed us how sound could swirl around the room like a waterfall, and then be precision shot into one corner or towards one person. It was so intense that you could almost feel it move you. You don’t get that kind of experience with anything else.”

DJ spec

The project itself presented several unique challenges. With the client keen on hosting guest DJs, the design required multiple input stations to accommodate a variety of decks, DJs, and event setups, ensuring seamless versatility. Additionally, the audio system needed to be discreetly integrated into the decor and furnishings of the space. Another critical challenge was room acoustics. Positioned beneath a serene zen garden, the club room

needed to deliver powerful, immersive audio while ensuring that no sound escaped, disrupting the tranquil surroundings above.

Working with L-Acoustics, SMC created an SPL heat map to precisely match the reference club’s acoustic profile, ensuring the home system would deliver the same audio experience. The team designed a 25-channel audio system using professional L-Acoustics products, ensuring that the audio quality matched expectations for performance. Subwoofers were cleverly hidden within the furniture, maintaining the luxurious appearance of the room, with the only visible elements being the ceiling-mounted speakers.

The project also required seamless integration with the home’s existing home automation systems. The customer prioritised simplicity in the operation of AV, HVAC, lighting and security systems. SMC ensured that control of the audio system could be accessed via Crestron home automation panels and mobile devices, allowing the client to manage the environment with ease.

The final installation is a testament to L-Acoustics’ ability to deliver cutting-edge audio solutions that seamlessly integrate into a luxury home environment. Combining high-performance sound, aesthetic integrity and ease of use, the system transforms the space into a bespoke entertainment venue, bringing the

energy of a nightclub into the comfort of the client’s home.

The precise design ensures sound containment within the club, preserving the tranquility of the surrounding areas. For the homeowner, the result is an immersive, nightclub-quality audio experience in the comfort of their home, controlled effortlessly with state-of-the-art technology.

“What really sets this installation apart is that we’re using the same professional L-Acoustics technology found in leading nightclubs and

music venues,” says Kevin. “This isn’t a residential system trying to approximate club sound - it’s genuine professional-grade audio, thoughtfully integrated into a home environment. The client absolutely loves it and couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out.” More Information SMC smc-uk.com

Chelsea Townhouse Greets Tech Innovation

Smart home technology smoothly integrated by integration company JPAV, combined with interiors by Steph Hill Designs and Devereux Designs, makes for an attractive period property with every modern advantage too.

Renovating a period property is always a challenge, but when that property is Grade II listed and the homeowner wants to maintain a traditional aesthetic while ensuring the space is fit for modern living, the task is even greater.

This was the case on a recent project for home technology specialists JPAV, in which the owners of a Georgian townhouse in fashionable Chelsea undertook a sympathetic renovation that also includes a whole host of discreet technology. JPAV worked closely with the homeowner and the two interior design studios responsible

for the project, Steph Hill Designs and Devereux Designs, to make sure that the smart home system afforded all the lifestyle benefits demanded by the customer as well as meeting the aesthetic challenges of the project.

James Shorter, Founder of JPAV, explains, “The owners knew they wanted home automation technology, but they didn’t want to see it. They were keen to keep the style as classic as possible and there were listed areas that made it quite difficult too. We had to think outside the box in a number of areas and both we and the homeowners are delighted with the result.”

While discreet technology was a must, ease of use was also high on the priority list and as the client was familiar with the home automation platform Control4, it was an easy decision to turn to this as an option.

James adds, “Control4 handles pretty much everything in the house, integrating audio, lighting, TVs, heating and security control onto one seamless platform. The family love the benefit of being able to control things anywhere. If they forget to do something, they can just log into their phone, turn the heating on when they arrive at a destination, adjust the lighting schedules or whatever. They also love that they can have multiple properties all on one Control4 app so they don’t have to use different apps for different properties and technologies.”

A product called the Control4 CA-10 automation controller is at the heart of the Chelsea townhouse system, offering reliability, flexibility and built-in OvrC remote management for enhanced

troubleshooting. OvrC allows James and his team to securely and remotely access the system to maintain system health, add updates and keep everything running smoothly without ever needing to step inside the property.

The Control4 system can also create personalised automated

experiences for the family. This includes a holiday mode which mimics the family being at home when they’re travelling. Alongside the app, Control4’s Halo remote and T4 touchscreens are proving the ideal interface for the client, offering simple, customisable control and sleek, unobtrusive designs.

The system marries performance and control for inside and outside the home

“The family love the new Halo remotes,” James adds. “They also have wall-mounted touch panels at key locations on every floor with flush housing so they look amazing.”

Keen to have a premium quality audio system throughout the house, the family was also clear that they wanted to minimise impact on the interior design and retain the clean aesthetic of the property. This led to the decision to install invisible speakers along with architectural in-ceiling speakers from speaker

brand Triad in the guest rooms. Additional Triad outdoor speakers are located on the roof terrace to provide the perfect ambience for enjoying the fresh air and social gatherings.

Security was also a consideration with this project and a Luma X20 CCTV system from Snap One (parent company of all of the brands mentioned) is in operation. AI-powered human and vehicle detection, automatic video stream configuration in Control4 and enhanced camera views ensure peace of mind for the

family, while a Control4 DS2 door station offers video monitoring, motion detection and HD video while ensuring easy access for expected visitors.

All in all, the family gets to fully enjoy this charming home, complete with every control and entertainment feature they could wish for.

Designing Human-Centric Wellness Experiences

Michael Meeneghan of MP Technical Solutions, a future-forward integration company specialising in residential, marine and leisure environments, explores how smart technology can transform your in-home gym spaces into a wonderful wellness-focused haven.

Creating exceptional fitness spaces is no longer just about state-of-the-art equipment. You want an environment that elevates performance while

supporting overall wellness. Our industry and companies such as ours are shaping the future of gym design by incorporating human-centric

lighting, advanced climate control and immersive, exciting and fun audio-visual systems. Here’s how these innovations can redefine your in-home fitness experience.

A Holistic Approach to Wellness in Gym Design

Gyms need to provide an atmosphere that promotes focus, motivation and relaxation. From the moment you enter, elements such as lighting, air quality and audio-visual immersion must work harmoniously to create an inspiring environment to keep workouts fun and keep you coming back for more.

Lighting to Enhance Performance and Recovery

Human-centric lighting (HCL) has become a cornerstone of wellness design. By mimicking natural daylight cycles, dynamic lighting systems help align your circadian rhythms. Cooler light tones can energise you during high-intensity workouts, while warmer hues promote relaxation in recovery zones. Flicker-free LEDs with advanced dimming and colour temperature controls reduce fatigue, enhance focus and elevate your overall experience.

Climate Control for Comfort and Energy Efficiency

Air quality and temperature are critical yet often overlooked aspects of gym design. Advanced climate control systems go beyond simple thermostats to regulate airflow and filter contaminants, ensuring a steady supply of clean, fresh air. Cardio zones can benefit from cooler settings to offset body heat, while stretching and recovery areas provide a more soothing warmth. Smart climate systems combine performance optimisation with energy efficiency.

Audio-Visual Solutions to Engage and Motivate

Sound and visual elements are powerful tools for creating immersive gym environments. High-quality sound systems paired with strategically placed LED displays can motivate you and set the mood. Whether it’s your favourite dynamic playlist for highenergy workouts or calming visuals for yoga sessions, we can deliver tailored AV experiences that keep you engaged.

The Future of Fitness Spaces

Gyms designed with wellness and smart technology in mind are more than just places for you to work

out—they are spaces that inspire, energise and nurture. This represents an exciting opportunity to add a new level of functionality and fun to your home, as well as maintain your fitness. By embracing human-centric lighting, advanced climate control and immersive AV systems, we can create future-ready fitness environments that meet all of your desires and goals. The result? A gym experience that leaves a lasting impression and becomes one of your favourite rooms in the home.

The Joy of Immersive Home Cinema

Home Cinema expert Joe Carri, Director of long-established installation and integration company Prestige Audio, offers some insight into the world of immersive home cinema.

There is a special kind of magic in being truly immersed in a film, game, or piece of music—the kind of experience that makes you forget where you are and transports you to another world. For years, this level of immersion was thought to be the preserve of high-end commercial cinemas, but the reality is that the best home cinema systems can now deliver an experience that rivals and often surpasses them. With the right expertise, you can enjoy all your favourite content in stunning quality, tailored precisely to your own preferences, all from the comfort of your own home.

A Home Cinema Experience Like No Other

A well-designed home cinema isn’t just about having a large screen and powerful speakers—it’s about creating a space where every element works in harmony to deliver breathtaking realism. Whether you opt for a dedicated home cinema room or integrate a high-performance system seamlessly into your existing living space, the goal is the same: total immersion.

For film lovers, this means feeling every moment of the action, every whisper of dialogue and every

soaring note of a soundtrack as if you were right there in the scene. For gamers, it’s about stepping into new worlds with pinpoint-accurate sound and visuals that respond instantly to every move. And for music lovers, it’s about recreating the sensation of a live performance, right down to the subtlest details of an artist’s voice or the resonance of a concert hall.

Beyond the Commercial Cinema

Many people assume that the very best AV experiences are found in commercial cinemas, but that’s not

the case. A home cinema designed by an expert has several key advantages. First, it can be calibrated specifically to your space, ensuring that sound and visuals are optimised for your exact room dimensions and seating arrangement. Unlike commercial cinemas, where audio and picture quality vary depending on where you sit, a home cinema ensures that every seat is the best seat in the house.

Second, home cinemas are free from the distractions of a public screening—no rustling popcorn, no bright phone screens and no interruptions. You’re in complete control, choosing exactly what to watch, when to watch it and how loud to play it.

Finally, your home cinema is designed entirely to your personal style and level of comfort. From

luxurious seating to custom lighting, every detail can be tailored to enhance your experience. Whether you prefer a sleek, modern design or a traditional theatre feel, your cinema space is yours to shape.

Next-Level Entertainment at Your Fingertips

If you haven’t yet explored the world of high-performance home cinema, now is the time. Today’s technology offers incredible options, from 4K projectors to Dolby Atmos sound systems that place you at the centre of the action. And the best part? You don’t have to be a tech expert to enjoy it—all you need is the right professional to guide you.

Working with a home cinema specialist ensures that every aspect of your system is chosen and installed

for maximum impact. It’s not just about buying the latest gadgets; it’s about creating a carefully balanced experience where every component works together perfectly. From room acoustics to speaker placement, from screen size to seating position, an expert will help you achieve the absolute best results for your space.

You’ll Never Look Back

Once you’ve experienced the thrill of a properly designed home cinema, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it. These spaces always become the favourite room in the house. The convenience, the comfort, and—above all—the breathtaking quality of a truly immersive system make it an unbeatable way to enjoy entertainment. Whether you’re settling in for a movie marathon, diving into the latest game, or unwinding with your favourite music, a home cinema transforms every moment into something extraordinary.

If you’re ready to take your home entertainment to the next level, reach out to your local home cinema expert. The perfect system for you is closer than you think—and once you’ve stepped into the world of immersive home cinema, you’ll never look back.

Home cinema systems represent the pinnacle for AV entertainment in the 21st century

A Luscious Creation By LUUXX

Smart Home and luxury audio visual specialist LUUXX, created this fantastic project that combines high-performance with luxury for an immersive, automated and beautiful result.

Michael Glarvey, Managing Director at LUUXX, explains, “The clients came to us, initially, in 2017 through a visit to our showroom. The clients had plans to build a new home on the edge of Carlisle. Unfortunately, due to planning issues and building costs, they ended up not moving forward with that project. But in

2021, they called us out of the blue and explained they had purchased a Georgian townhouse in the centre of Carlisle and building/renovation works had already begun. The clients still wanted a full AV smart home, so we arranged to attend their new home and specify everything.”

The original brief was whole-house fully automated smart lighting control, a strong Wi-Fi and wired network, a multi-room music system and a dedicated cinema in the basement. The main system was agreed quite quickly, with the cinema specification being left for a later date.

Michael says, “As the project developed, the clients wanted to expand the system to shading. Significant work was done with the clients on the design and ensuring the right shading option was chosen across the house. The result was over 40 Lutron window shades being installed, a mix of roller, Venetian and curtain track.”

The cinema brief progressed over time as well. After a visit to some demonstration facilities, the clients were set on having a Wisdom Line Source cinema, an American brand well known in the world of highperformance home cinema. Following both technical design and interior design in-house by LUUXX, the room was set as a ‘7.2.2’ surround system

with Wisdom for audio, a JVC NZ7000 projector with a videoenhancing processor by a company called madVR, an acousticallytransparent woven screen by Screen Research andamplification and processing carried out by UK maker, ARCAM.

Project details

The clients wanted a strong and robust network and LUUXX’s goto brand for many years has been Ruckus for Wi-Fi and Araknis for router and switches. Heat maps of the building were completed in order to ensure the full house (five storeys) were all covered by a strong network.

Michael adds, “Audio distribution was important for the clients with some form of audio to every room in the house, 27 zones in total. Sonance, our preferred ‘architectural’ audio solution, was used throughout the house in different forms.”

Architectural means that the products are hidden from view and woven directly into the fabric of the home, so that the family get all the music and audio they require, but with zero impact on the period look of the property. The family can enjoy musiconly playback and also systems that support TV audio.

Lighting and shading control is delivered by a system called Lutron Homeworks, controlled via attractive Palladiom keypads, also by Lutron. Additionally, some sensors by UK company Faradite were used to help automate the lighting control. These sensors trigger the lighting in conjunction with information from the sensors, like knowing if a room is occupied or not. The lighting is also linked to the shading, with over 40 different shades across the home, ranging from large wooden Venetians with tilt and lift functionality, roller shades and curtain tracks.

Michael explains, “Lutron was used as it is one of our preferences for lighting control and the only system we offer for shading. It also allowed our clients to seamlessly control lighting and create scenes with audio at the touch of a button.”

The whole house has entertainment and automation options

Home automation brand Control4 was used throughout the home to bring everything into one place for control. A customised app available on smart devices and Control4 Halo remotes throughout the home allow the family to take control of all the systems at any time. This matched with the clients’ brief to have one simple control solution for all AV and technology.

Icing on the cake

The icing on the cake was the cinema room. This was only ever going to be Wisdom once the clients heard a system in demonstration. It is LUUXX’s go-to brand for high end audio and cinema solutions. The project consisted of a 7.2.2 surround sound system, with video delivered by a JVC NZ7000 projector. A woven Screen Research screen and a madVR Envy Core processor also are key.

Michael remarks, “The result from the clients, who have had dedicated home cinemas in the past, was one of utter joy and amazement at the performance level. Significant design work was done by us to ensure the room was completely isolated and sound-proofed. This was a major issue due to being in a townhouse basement with neighbours.

“We then worked with Artnovion (an acoustic design manufacturer) to design the acoustic treatment within the room to enhance and maximise the performance of the system. Finally, our design partner, Popcorn and Dreams produced full architectural build details as well as interior design for the room to then be built exactly as the client’s imagined: their haven of red!”

The results

The system has allowed the clients to live in a space they dreamt of. One of the clients has been involved in tech all his life and wanted a home which was as automated as possible, simple to use and also intuitive. A great example of this was their use of complex scenes to enhance how they lived. For example, their Palladiom lighting scene buttons when pressed, depending on the time of day, will then change how scene buttons work in different rooms. Such as if they pressed ‘Dinner Party’ in the dining room, it would set the lights and shades to their required level, and play a particular playlist. Going into another room during that scene will set lighting and audio to tie in with the Dinner Party scene. But if they pressed

the Party scene in the dining room, an associated scene in another room would then tie in with the Party scene, and so on.

Michael explains, “We are unique in that because our sister company, Popcorn and Dreams are the only architect-led dedicated interior design company in Europe solely working for the AV Industry, so we were able to produce multiple interior design options for the clients. They had never considered a red room, but as soon as they saw the design and renders, they knew that was the one!

“Thankfully the clients and I share the same ‘favourite’ and that is the cinema! Their expectations from Wisdom were high, but their result far surpassed what they thought they would get. And whilst my team played a huge part in it, a huge thanks must also go to Popcorn and Dreams, Wisdom and Julian at Habitech (UK supplier of Wisdom Audio), all who provided huge input into the design and commissioning of the room.”

Wicked Cinema!

Home cinemas are not just installed in single dwellings, but are often these days found in the shared spaces of high-quality apartment complexes. Already popular amenities like a gym or restaurant are now being augmented with even cooler facilities, in this case a cinema. This wicked example was created by MDfx.

The MDfx team explains that this project was for developer Bale & Anchor, a new client–referred to the company from an existing customer. Bale & Anchor is an example of a new type of development growing in popularity around the country that features five-star amenities, like their own eateries, bars, gyms and in this case, a cinema as well!

The brief was to design and install a state-of-the-art communal cinema room for residents, providing a seamless and intuitive user experience, whilst also addressing the unique challenges presented by the location and construction.

An easy to use Control4 home automation system was installed along with the cinema components themselves to make the space intuitive for all residents and visitors to use.

Vince Moloney, MDfx Project Manager, explains, “Using M&K speakers was our first choice for the client. The IW150A in-wall/in-ceiling speakers are so versatile and are designed for the ultimate home theatre experience and are used in hundreds of professional film and music recording studios around the world.

“We also opted for a Sony 4K laser projector. Moving to laser technology

means that the client wouldn’t have the ongoing costs or inconvenience of having to replace lamps every few thousand hours, or the degradation in brightness that lamp projectors can suffer from.”

Vince adds, “For the residents of the Bale & Anchor apartments we needed to eliminate the need for multiple remote controls as these can be misplaced by the residents, resulting in cinema downtime and unhappy residents. We integrated a single, intuitive Control4 wall-mounted touchscreen for controlling all aspects of the cinema room, including lighting, audio, visual and temperature.”

Never

Miss a Moment

With the right technology, your space can transform into something as unique as you are.

A Control4 system connects all your devices, enabling customisation with a single tap or voice command. Because your system is installed by experts, it continuously evolves as technology does. You get peace of mind from top-of-the-line security features, so you can cherish the moments that matter most.

your listening experiences to new heights.

The all-new 8” ln-Ceiling Speakers by Sonos and Sonance feature completely new acoustic components, offering natural, room-filling sound with discrete installation.

Projects such as these often have unique challenges to get the system completed and the performance where it needs to be.

Vince says, “Transporting the projector screen was our main problem that we encountered. Lifts to the 34th floor couldn’t accommodate the 3.6m x 2.13m screen, so our meticulous engineers had to manually transport it up 34 floors, needless to say, a few breaks in between floors were needed! But they delivered the screen in mint condition with no damage.

“There were also ceiling weight limitations. We selected lightweight yet powerful M&K ceiling speakers that met both acoustic requirements and structural constraints, ensuring safety and exceptional sound quality.

“We also worked closely with the building management team and adhered to fire safety regulations to carefully route cabling through firestop walls without compromising the building integrity or safety standards.”

Vince concludes, “For us and the client, our favourite part was the sound! The Miller & Kreisal surround

sound speakers and subwoofer sounded amazing, and the bass was out of this world!”

Despite the unique challenges, MDfx Ltd delivered a bespoke solution that surpassed client expectations while maintaining safety, functionality and aesthetic excellence. The Bale & Anchor residents now have an amazing communal space to get together and enjoy movies and music, an all-in-one luxury entertainment space befitting its high-end surroundings.

Black And White Movies

Internationally renowned home cinema designers, AcousticSmart created this powerful space that delivers on performance and looks seriously cool.

Mike Gaughn from AcousticSmart explains, “This was an existing client who had a specific vision based on a design they liked, inspired by something they saw online. But we needed to customise it and make it work in their space, so we gave them some ideas on how we could make the design look and work better,

especially how to use LED lighting to create the effect they were after.

“The LED lighting in the ceiling and on the walls is a huge part of the decor of this room. The colours are basically black and grey and it’s the lighting that creates the character of the space. The whole theatre is tone on tone—there’s no colour in the room.”

The piping on the seats working in conjunction with the lighting also plays an important part in the aesthetic.

This large space needed a lot of planning, taking into account the correct seating positions and a lot of time went into tuning the room to make sure the customer would have the optimal sound quality that represents a true ‘AcousticSmart’ room. The whole goal on every project is to create the suspension of disbelief and working in tandem with Robert Kaufmann and his team at Audio Command Systems of Westbury, New York, the team was able to achieve that.

To create a true home cinema experience a 2.35:1 Cinemascope screen from Display Technologies was used to match the format that most movies are created in and deliver the largest image possible for the room.

The fibre-optic star ceiling offers a wonderful touch, working with the existing supporting beam in the room to create the illusion of more height and depth, bringing a lot of detail and character. The work the team carried out to get exactly the right look is very painstaking. For example where light reflects directly onto the walls or ceilings close to the LED fittings, special fabric is added to create the perfect detailing. Often when light shines directly onto wood or paint close to the LED fittings the finish can appear slightly rough as the light will find any tiny imperfections in the paint or wood. Using special fabric provides a constant and completely clean surface to work with the light and

presents a much cleaner polished look and a more high-end vibe.

Positive impact on home life

Mike explains, “The kitchen used to be the place where everybody got together as a family. But now, because of things like streaming and gaming, the cinema is becoming the new custom kitchen because everyone can gather there to not just watch movies but to watch TV shows and play video games together and do family Zooms.”

A lot of customers also use their cinemas for ‘wellness’. So the team provides a lot of space between the

front row and the screen so they can do yoga or other activities, say guided workouts using the screen. Mike adds, “A lot of customers also use the room to meditate because it’s the quietest place in the house. Some of them go there just to read because it’s quiet and they can focus without any distractions.

“Because of the isolation of the room and the acoustic tuning, a cinema isn’t like any other space in the home. And that quietness is very addictive because it’s something we all strive for. Our lives are so busy that just being in that room can be very comforting. Because of that, the wellness part is just as important as watching movies and entertaining.”

So does the team have a favourite part of the project? Mike says, “My favourite part is that we were able to accomplish something we’d never done before. Also, the lighting aspect is so fresh and unique. As soon as you walk in, the entire room really takes you away and you’re truly in another place and time. And since it’s completely different from the rest of the house, it’s got a very ‘Zen’ atmosphere. On the performance, acoustic, and aesthetic levels, it’s one of the nicest cinemas we’ve ever built.

“It’s the clients’ favourite room in the house. They love it so much that they have family get-togethers there every month, where they all come over and watch movies. The family gets great use out of the cinema. They’re not just in there once in a while—they use it every single week.

The customer says, “My theatre has a character all its own—calm, sophisticated, and a true retreat from the rest of my home. The seating is so comfortable that sometimes I find myself simply sitting in the quiet, enjoying the serenity without even turning the screen on.”

The cool aesthetic and calmness of the room make it a very special place to be

Experience Karma AV: An entertainment awakening

Located a short distance from York in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, Karma AV is one of the UK’s premier showrooms to experience high-performance home cinema. Take a virtual tour with us before booking your own!

Led by industry veteran Ian Severs and a highly experienced team, Karma AV was founded 14 years ago and has been evolving to offer a unique range of brands wedded with the company’s commitment to bespoke demonstration spaces. Working with the very best professional integrators, the company offers access to a handpicked range of leading specialised brands offering the finest immersive AV experiences.

Ian explains, “In the 14 years from 2011, the rooms at Karma evolved to showcase the very latest home cinema technology including premier systems from two rising stars in home cinema hardware and design. Both Ascendo Immersive Audio and Perlisten Audio offer extraordinarily high levels of performance.”

The Karma AV demonstration setup is made up of three separate rooms skilfully created to offer a journey through the brand and performance levels available.

The smaller room (43 m³) features separate surround sound systems using a combination of Cornered Audio, SVS, System Audio and Emotiva for the audio and a large screen 75in TV for visuals.

In the middle room (51 m³), the performance level goes up a notch with powerful audio brands such as Perlisten Audio, Ascendo, Emotiva and Primare, this time partnering a JVC projector for the visuals.

The highest-performance experience at the venue is found in the largest room (216 m³), where two separate luxury surround sound

systems can be experienced. Brands featured in this room include Ascendo, Perlisten, Trinnov and again JVC for the projection.

Ian explains, “The idea in each space is to show what can be achieved at different levels/budgets so dealers and their customers can experience what’s possible. The smaller systems are designed for discreet installation so as not to impose on room décor and living space. The larger flagship systems are built-in and designed for dedicated spaces. In the smaller room we can demo at near entry level for a simple 5.1 lounge system from SVS and Emotiva and then move to an on-wall Dolby Atmos solution from System Audio and Emotiva.

“Then we can show that sound needn’t be compromised through a discreet corner-installed Emotiva/ Cornered Audio/Atmos system offering a high-quality audio solution in environments with more challenging speaker locations. The smaller space features sound systems from around £3,150 up to £6,800.”

Moving to the second space, Ian explains, “The middle room is designed to show what can be achieved for a higher outlay but still be less than many kitchen fit-outs. Systems in this space range from £23,200 up to around £44,000, with the added flexibility of changing electronics or subwoofers with relative ease to help show differences and fine-tune.

“The custom built-in speakers are fixed and concealed behind acoustic walls but we can also install a freestanding setup to show alternatives. Since Perlisten makes in-wall, on-wall and regular bookshelf or floor-standing versions of each model, we can demonstrate a very high level of flexibility. The Ascendo system can also have different subwoofers installed.”

Moving on to the last act in this impressive journey, Ian reveals, “The main room hosts two highend systems (£200k approx) and is designed to demonstrate that we can drive even large spaces at the required ‘reference’ levels. The Perlisten system utilises Trinnov processing/calibration and Primare power amplification with Torus mains isolation. The base layer speakers are all bi-amped with the main left, centre and front speakers being bi-amped with bridged amplification. The system also has four D215 active subwoofers to offer infrasonic bass.”

Bi-amping speakers (using separate amplifiers for low and high frequencies) improves sound quality by providing more power and control to each speaker section. Infrasonic bass is capable of producing bass sounds so deep that those in the room feel the bass rather than actually hear it. This type of approach is great for building tension in all types of movies.

The Ascendo system also uses Trinnov processing together with Ascendo’s own calibration system to take the already impressive audio

to even greater heights. This system utilises all Ascendo amplification, 4 x twin 18in subwoofers underpinned by 2 x 32in infrasonic subwoofers. Torus power conditioning and control also feature in the middle and larger rooms to help protect the equipment from power spikes and create ‘clean’ power for the systems to work with.

Ian explains, “We love each room and each system for what they bring as they are exceptional offerings at each level. The versatility is built in to show what’s possible at every budget from very affordable to scalable true high-end performance. We can show a full journey through the levels.”

Immersive sound and vision move up a gear or two in the middle room
Installed discreetly in the small room, Cornered Audio speakers offer practical high performance options

Explanations completed, Ian offered Intelligent Homes the chance to experience the systems first-hand. Using some familiar sequences from A Quiet Place, James Bond: No Time To Die and Top Gun: Maverick in the different rooms, visitors are able to get a clear idea of how impressive each system is. Ian carefully points out things to listen out for to understand the quality on offer and how the systems progress in performance. The ticking of the alarm clock in the basement scene from A Quiet Place, or the contrast between the audio inside and outside the Aston Martin during the gun attack part of the Bond car chase, gives even those new to appreciating home cinema a way to understand what they are experiencing. Performance in the first room is impressive, particularly when the price points are considered. The Cornered speakers are particularly striking and should not just be regarded as a practical option. More power is unleashed in the middle room but more subtly too; the bullet impacts in the Bond sequence gain more precision and clarity, Emily Blunt’s scream at the end of the A Quiet Place sequence takes on an extra level of emotional impact.

Moving into the largest space, it’s a genuine surprise to discover a room of this size – it impresses even before the system is called into action. Some standout moments: the grave explosion sequence in Bond where the audio gives an impression of the temporary deafness Bond experiences. Here the infrasonic abilities of the room really deliver. Everything in the room is also thrown onto a much larger audio stage. Despite the impressive power during sequences, it is the subtlety that really impresses. The sequence where Emily Blunt stands on a nail and then has to remove it without making any noise is a particular standout. Clearly, much

time, effort and love have gone into creating this impressive facility.

What Is a Cinema in the Home?

Mike Bonnette, Product Director at specialist AV supplier Connected Distribution, explains how to get that genuine cinema experience at home.

Home cinema has been around for a long time now and most people are familiar with the term. It can mean many different things to different people, but essentially, it’s a system that emulates the experience you have in the cinema – a large picture and a surround sound effect. A Cinema in the Home is a little different, but first, some background info. Home cinema has evolved over the years and is getting progressively more like the experience you get when you visit your local Odeon. Have you noticed the number of speakers around the room when you sit down to watch the latest blockbuster? It’s all about giving you an immersive experience, taking you to another

place where disbelief is suspended and you’re actually there – in space, in the jungle, underwater or pretty much anywhere else the creative mind of the director wants to take you.

And you can achieve this effect at home too. Maybe you don’t have room for the multitude of speakers – it can be up to 64 speakers in a commercial cinema – but you can get close with as few as seven speakers and some clever electronics. The technology behind an immersive cinema experience is made by a few companies, but the most popular, and the one you’re most likely to have come across, is Dolby Atmos.

If you install compact and discreet speakers, such as those made by

KEF or B&W, and a Dolby Atmos-equipped home cinema amplifier, made by companies like Sony or Yamaha and connect up an Apple TV, you can achieve a great home cinema experience.

But if you really want to get as close as possible to the Odeon, you need what we call a Cinema in the Home. It needs bigger and a greater number of speakers, more sophisticated Dolby Atmos processing and more powerful amplifiers. It’s possible to get very close to a commercial cinema experience and there are professional installation companies who can look after the design and build for you. They’ll specify room size, acoustic treatment, screen size, type of projector and even the seating for you and the result will look stunning. What’s key, from a genuine immersive experience point of view, is the audio equipment your installer specifies.

Making the Difference

There’s a big difference between a cinema speaker and a Hi-Fi speaker that has been re-packaged for home cinema use, and there are speakers available that are derivatives of the ones used in cinemas. Choose brands like Krix or Aurea – they make speakers for high-street cinemas – Aurea, for example, is used in the world-famous Odeon Leicester Square. These companies’ domestic models are a little smaller (but not much) than their professional models but retain a genuine cinema sound, as they are designed using exactly the same criteria.

Add to these some powerful amplification – potentially the same amplifiers used in the cinema –and Dolby Atmos immersive audio processing from the likes of Acurus or Trinnov, and you’re going to get as close as possible to that Odeon-style presentation. It will be unlike any home cinema you have ever experienced. We’ve coined the phrase ‘A Cinema in

the Home’ for this kind of installation, as calling it a home cinema isn’t doing it justice. Sure, it’s a big investment, but if you are serious about your love of cinema, it’s worth it.
