The Green Company:
Identical Twin Duo Delivering Comedy Gold and Expanding
Their Creative Horizons
Magic in the Making-
Who would have thought, that in 2016, “The Urbans,” an American television sitcom created and written by identical twin brothers, Rasheed and Saeed Green, would be on the platforms of some of the greatest television streaming services, such as BET, (now BET+), Tubi, Freevee, Amazon and FilmRise? Produced by New Magic Production, the organic television series is written by the Green Brothers, which includes an ensemble cast of the infamous actor Clifton Powell (Ray, Friday After Next) comedians, Rodney Perry (BET’s The Mo’Nique Show, Coming 2 America) and Donnell Rawlings (Chappelle’s Show, The Wire), the beautiful and never aging, Bern Nadette Stanis (Good Times, The Family Business) and the talented up and coming youngster, Alfred Lewis III (Disney’s Channel “Bunk’d”). The series also produces great cameo appearances of Russ Parr, Emilio Rivera, and Melvin Gregory Jr. The series’ debut premiered on August 4th, 2016, with ten episodes. It was renewed for a second season, which premiered on March 1st, 2018.

Surprisingly, the Green brothers do not come from a background consisting of filmmaking or from the movie industry. Their love for music and invention, was the segue for their introduction into the industry. In a candid interview with ATL Plus Magazine, Rasheed Green described his craft as being “self-taught.” He started out editing music videos and as he got a “feel for the software,” his gift and passions began to materialize. The Green Company laid its foundation in 2006; wherein they can be accredited for producing the short films “The Campbell” and “A Tish Served Cold,” and as an appetizer, they also produced the documentary "24 Crowns.” Taking pride in their work and what they’ve been able to accomplish, R. Saeed, emphasized the importance of putting out “good quality.” Notably, the brothers contribute great filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Tarantino, James Cameron, and John Singleton, as an inspiration of excellence. In addition, a round of applause, and being viewed as underrated and some of the best in the business went to Viola Davis, Forest Whittaker and Don Cheadle.
“The Urbans”
The Urbans, a show that consists of dry humor, with tearful jerks of satire and wit is the newest television show to hit the scene. Set in the city of Atlanta, Ga., - denoting the origin of Black culture, The Urbans, is centered around the main character, J. Whitman, played by R. Saeed, a successful business owner, of an upholstery shop located on Urban Ave.
Whitman’s everyday life is nothing short of being full of mishapscreated by his own misfortunes, which ultimately generate hysterical laughter from his audience. His character is a combination of naiveté, street sense, and brutal honesty.
J. Whitman’s life is as unconventional as it gets. The show gives you front row seats to the dual life of Whitman. Not only can you experience the unpredictable and realistic challenges that Whitman faces, but you’re also granted full access to how his life takes a metamorphic change from work boots to Italian Magnanni’s. It’s obvious that while watching this “exceptionally crafted” show, the “unpredictable” life circumstances he experiences will have you on the edge of your seat in anticipation, or either on the floor holding your stomach with laughter pains. Whitman contends with adversarial, but realistic issues as an African American male and the ups and downs of solidifying a personal relationship. The humor is derived from relatable situations for anyone who has ever had a family member or close friend with the same personality or lifestyle depicted by the characters in the show. The Urbans are also one of the few shows that realistically portray the plights and challenges of being an African American business owner. Stay Tuned…
