Letter From The Editor On behalf of ATL Plus Magazine, we dedicate our inaugural issue of “Power” to our entire staff for their hard work and dedication. We give special recognition to our Publisher/Founder, Ebony Mayo, who has unselfishly devoted the quintessence of who she is by sacrificing all that she has to make ATL Plus Magazine happen. Her unyielding POWER to stay the course and see the vision come to fruition exemplifies the essence and character of which this issue is dedicated. Her beauty to see beyond, is indicative of the POWER that resides not only within her, but also in the city of Atlanta. With a standing ovation, we applaud you for your fortitude and relentless dedication to showcase to the world, The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Atlanta: ATL Plus Magazine. Atlanta, Georgia is known for its richness in culture, social life, music, and celebrity lifestyles. There’s no question that POWER resides in the city of Atlanta. And with that POWER comes the opportunity to achieve your dreams. For many, Atlanta is viewed as the new MECCA or a miniature version of Hollywood. People near and far move to Atlanta for a new chapter or a new lease on life. It’s in the city of Atlanta that you get the luxury to enjoy the dirty south, good music, upscale shopping, fine dining, greater employment opportunities with better pay, and the everyday likelihood of running into a celebrity. It is with insurmountable humility that I take on the responsibility of being the Editor and Chief of this great magazine. It is with truth, accuracy, objectivity and moral integrity that I dedicate myself not only as an editor but as a representation of ATL Plus Magazine. It’s in the “A” the POWER to shift your mindset from disparity to prosperity, and from hopelessness to sheer triumph exists. As Lil Kim said it best, “If you can get the money, you can get the power.” It’s obvious that Atlanta was on her mind. There are a lot of POWER-ful and influential people that live in Atlanta. In this issue, we highlight some of these iconic and prominent figures. In our cover story, Frank Ski, “ The Curator of Radio Personality,” shares HIStory of aspirations of becoming the next Johnny Cochran; but through inspiration, was encouraged by his mentor “to do what he loves.” We are able to surmise that from his pursuit in doing just that- he has gained both notoriety and fame on and off the airways. What’s even more POWER-ful about Atlanta is the melting pot of cultures and lifestyles that are embroidered together in unity. Whether it’s Bankhead or Buckhead, watching the Atlanta Braves win the World Series, or better yet, attending the OneMusic Fest at the MercedesBenz Stadium, Atlanta’s mosaic canvas of POWER can be seen in every aspect. If you’re wanting to stay in the know while GENZing around the city, ATL Plus Magazine will keep you informed of “The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Atlanta. RD. M. Sandlin

is definitely not an apprentice when it comes to fashion. Not only does Dr. Hammond have a prowess for fashion, but his perspective on life, self love and integrity are just as polished. For those of you who may not have heard of him, Dr. Hammonds came from humble beginnings working his way through the ranks to gain the recognition that he now has as “Dean of Fashion.” His reputation precedes him; in class but of course.
A native of Columbus, GA, Hammonds has broadened his expertise on fashion through travel as well as hands- on training. Starting out in the classroom as a teacher, his career changed trajectory in 2002, serving as an advisory support with URUP. Transitioning, he went to work at Neiman Marcus, as an Assistant HR Manager, and ultimately plateaued to serve as Academic Dean of the Fashion Program at The Art Institute of Atlanta. During his tenure, he established the Fashion Design Curriculum for The Art Institute of Atlanta. His fashion and academic intellect provided him the opportunity to charter new academic programs including the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design (BFA). Hammond’s educational background includes a Doctorate in Business Administration from Argosy University, an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Mgmt., and a Bachelor’s in Education from Alabama State University. Not only is he jazzy and upscale, the Dr. is brilliantly astute. A Conversation with Fashion- From Idea to Conception How can we continue the progression of culture of expansion and evolution? When it comes to fashion, Dr. Hammonds has over 23 years of tailored experience in the fashion industry. “A lot of it has been organic growth and some of it has been forced growth. The conversation of fashion has really been infused in so many different genres; expanding from Miss Universe being caucasian and filipino. Who would’ve ever thought a transgender woman from Thailand would become the owner of the Miss Universe Pageant? Inclusion and acceptability are all those things that matter when having that conversation. Everybody matters. “I never want to be a part of an organization or organism that
table. Brown, black, white, gay, straight. When they have a voice at the table, it will translate into the brand that is being represented. Representation matters. Evolving, black, gray, brown and blue suits…..are no longer the trend. Fashion is a universal language. What is a power suit? A power suit is when you can walk in a room without having the “traditional eye gate,” and there’s no conversation or push back. Traditionally, it has been the norm that a suit and tie, or pumps and pantyhose, was the passport of acceptable fashion. Now, because fashion is an ever revolving door, and more so since the pandemic, you can look however you want to- but can you serve in the capacity that you’re required to serve in? (This reminded me of the cliché, you can’t judge a book by its cover). Oftentimes, society has the propensity to “size you up” because of your outward appearance without knowing your credentials. Hammonds used the analogy of playing spades; while giving credence to himself that he was the best spade player in the room. You only pull your “spade” when you need it. It applies to life as well. Hammonds went on to expound on the value of having organic conversations which equates to truth. He emphasized the depth of not sharing everything with everyone. For instance, posting on social media can be detrimental when it comes to salvaging and protecting our space. The narrative that displays on our timeline may not exemplify who we really are- or the brand that we represent. “Be and Do” Continue to be who you are and continue to do the work. Wearing the suit of comfortability is priceless. Admiring others’ creativity and their success is great. But ask yourself, “what are you going to do better and greater to leave as your legacy? What legacy are you going to create?” There’s no formula for success. There’s no time frame that’s going to be your “aha moment.” Misconception: You have to be careful when you say that you want to be just like this person or that person. Take the lessons learned as what to do and WWW.ATLPLUSMAGAZINE.COM

what not to do. The fashion guru reiterated the power of being processed. It has taken him umpteen years to become the person that he is today. He has refused to clone himself to be accepted by others and society. This is why he can wear the suit of comfortability. Can you? There’s a difference in earning your space and it being given- even if you received it by recommendation because it speaks to your character….what a gold nugget of information! Mantra: “Build, Educate and Style” Level of boundaries and grace- extend grace because you want grace extended to you. Read out of the scope of your industry. How are you building your mind muscle? By building, you surround yourself with others that are greater than you. Educate: You don’t want to be the smartest person in the room. Introspection is key. Everything is not all about you. Whether we realize it or not, people watch our lives, and by doing so, we are showing them that it’s possible. Whatever it is that you want to do- they too can also fulfill their dreams- but you have to do the work. You can be whatever you want to be. Style- you have to look the part. Creating that imagery that you want represented in the world. Hammonds admitted that your trajectory changes over time. And that’s absolutely ok. Again, going back to comfortability- acknowledging and recognizing that you’re an asset and not a liability. Maintain a position wherein people always want you around. Never depreciate. Date yourself- on purpose. Recharge. You can’t give what you don’t have.

Change Agent is definitely suitable for Dr.. Hammonds. As you look at the scope of his life and all that he has accomplished; it’s obvious that he is tailored to shift atmospheres, mindsets and wardrobes. He describes fashion as ministry. Unlike his father, who stands behind a pulpit, he’s been called to the marketplace. Hammonds is the CEO of CAH & CO. Consulting Group, a boutique consulting firm which provides expertise in the creative, academic, and HR sector for leaders and organizations from multiple industries. CAH’s mission is to equip their clients with solutions that will fundamentally provide tangible results. His innovative approach is strategic to implementation and empowerment of best practices. Congratulations to Dr. Hammond on the release of his first short film for his children’s book, “9 Ways to Live Like a Prince.” In total, Dr. Hammonds has authored five books that encompasses fashion, style and philanthropy. Ron Donovan
The Shoe Maker’s Studio & The Soul Strategist
Fashion-preneur Ron Donovan can be described as nothing less than “refined and impeccably elegant.” With 25 years of experience as a shoemaker, strategist, and coach, he adds value, diversity, and luxury to a lifestyle brand. Describing his childhood as “eclectic,” Donovan’s craft was nurtured at an early age through his exposure to diversity, arts, athletics, and faith. “My parents were both collegeeducated professionals. My mother is a mathematician, and my father is an engineer.” Donovan was born and raised in South Carolina. He attended The Georgia Institute of Technology, and as a freshman, “walked onto” the university’s NCAA Division 1 basketball team with a height of 6 ‘2 and a size 15 in shoes. While playing at Georgia Institute of Technology, he played with and against a Who’s Who list of NBA greats like Kenny Smith, Spud Webb, John Salley, and even Michael Jordan. After graduating, the “Tech” graduate began a career in technical design and sales. Although he excelled, he left the corporate world to answer the call to his “right livelihood.” In pursuit of business ventures with less than desired success, Donovan’s innate passion for fashion and style was unquestionably calling out to him. His inability to find necessity led him to create a high-quality yet fashionable shoe, “necessity being the mother of invention.” Determined to create men’s shoes that fit his size, 15 ½, he became a cordwainer and hand-crafted his signature brand: Ron Donovan. Ron Donovan was able to marry his passion for fashion and style with his technical skills, thus creating a platform that would exemplify the exquisiteness of his craft. The creative Ron Donovan designs and produces footwear, accessories, and apparel for both men and women. In addition, he offers footwear and accessorymaking classes through his studio. The creation of his New Yorkbased luxury “lifestyle” brand, was a segue that allowed his skills as a craftsman to explore other entrepreneurial endeavors: The Shoemaker’s Studio. The Trying of His Faith Ron’s faith was strong before one of the most dismal times of his life. He was diagnosed and faced with prostate cancer at a considerably young age, which considerably changed his perspective on life. “While difficult at times, my faith helps me remain in gratitude and embrace the beautiful life that I have versus mourning the life I, at times, used to “think” I lost.” He describes his faith as a foundation of his mindset combined with logic and creativity. “It is integral in all I achieve and transcend. This balanced mindset has developed over time and forged from many trials, tribulations, and

A Cut Above:
From the Front Porch to the Studio Master Barber and Senior Pastor: Mr. Tony Roberts
Humble Beginnings At the early age of 14, Mr. Tony Roberts began to cut hair. His career as a master barber didn’t evolve out of passion; but out of necessity. Coming from humble beginnings, his parents could not regularly afford to take him to get haircuts. Therefore, Roberts did what he had to do, and while making the best of his situation, he began cutting his own hair. It didn’t matter whether it was in the bathroom or on his mother’s front porch, he found as many extension cords that he could in order to make it happen. Beginning to get a “feel” for his craft, he asked his best friend if he could cut his hair. Reluctantly, and acquiescing to the fear of allowing Tony to cut his hair, he agreed and wouldn’t you know it~ voila`! Next thing you know, Tony Roberts was cutting the majority of children’s hair in his neighborhood. In an exclusive interview with ATL Plus Magazine, Tony Roberts, Master Barber and Senior Pastor of Victory Worship Center, gave his testimony of success: At the age of 20, Tony Roberts found himself managing a barber shop. Even with it being commissioned based, he realized that he was still making the same amount of money as the other barbers. Disgusted, Roberts expressed his desire for more money to the owner. In response, he was advised that he should probably start working on Sundays. Appalled, and disappointed by the owner’s response, it was at that very moment that Roberts recalls that it was time to leave and start his own business. As destiny would have it, Tony Roberts would go from opening his first barber shop, and being the 44 A T L + M A G A Z I N E
first African American barber shop in the Healey Building; located in the heart of the historic Fairlie-Poplar District in downtown Atlanta. Not too shabby for a first wouldn’t you say? Here’s a little-known fact for those who may not know: the Healey Building is a 16-story high-rise located on Forsyth
as an African American. He was the first African American barber to open a studio on Peachtree St. and Buckhead across from Piedmont hospital. In addition, he was the first African American barber in Colony Square. Added to his repertoire, he is the first African American and barber in Atlantic Station, and now with a second location- you can find the Master Barber in Buckhead on Lavista Walk and Cheshire Bridge: Tony’s Barber & Hair Studio @Atlantic Station and Tony’s Barber Studio @Lavista Walk. Shop Talk When asked about the “shop talk” that takes place in his barber shop- Roberts describes the environment as being a “typical day.”
Street. It was built in 1913 as Atlanta’s last major construction project prior to World War I. Little did Tony Roberts know that he would be making history as well. Professionally Groomed for Success Roberts’ business acumen has afforded him with many notable firsts and recognitions
As we all have our idea of what takes place and what is often the topic(s) of discussion in a barber shop full of men; has now evolved into a more transformative haven wherein both men and women are able to express themselves without the “edgy-ness” of feeling uncomfortable based upon gender. Evolution has taken precedence. The norm of seeing only men as barbers has become prehistoric. Tony’s Barber Studios are equipped with both grooming professionals (men) and sisters in grooming. Each master barber has years of experience to offer while providing you with quality service. Your choice of male or female. The diversity and world class experience embodies sophistication, conversation, and even counseling should you need it. The counseling compartment comes from the ministerial needs provided by the Senior Pastor, Mr. Roberts himself. Not only does Tony Roberts provide services in the personal care industry, he also provides
spiritual care to accommodate the personal and mental care of others as well. When speaking with our youth, he describes it as “a conversationnot a class.” The Georgia native, attended Morris Brown and Carter Theological Institute, as an alchemy that has created who he has become today. Purpose Driven In September of 2022, Roberts’ vitality was compromised by pericardial effusion. This condition exists when there is a buildup of too much fluid in the double-layered, saclike structure around the heart. In actuality- Roberts had 2-Liters of fluid around his heart, as well as some in the back of his heart. Having gone to the doctor a year prior because he was having irregular heartbeats, he failed his EKG, but was told by the technician that it was probably due to the fact that he had on lotion. (Yeah, my sentiments exactly!) A year later, with the irregular heartbeats increasing, he went back to the doctor. After being given a CT scan, his doctor called him back the same day and ordered an emergency procedure. Knowing that med ically that he’s not supposed to be alive, Roberts praises God for blessing him with life acknowledging that there’s more work that God has for him to do. Roberts is committed to being the change agent that the community needs. His aspirations are to create an atmosphere wherein his clients are given the utmost personal and quality care. Not only does he want his clients to enjoy the “experience,” but it’s paramount that they leave feeling that their time and monies has far exceeded their expectations. Being in the industry as long as he has, Roberts’ clientele consists of many celebrities, although he doesn’t see himself as a celebrity barber. In addition, he has clients that he’s serviced for more than 30 years. “Tony Roberts is one of the best barbershops out there in Atlanta, great atmosphere, professionals, you get there for a haircut you get out as a Royalty. Prices are very reasonable for a luxurious service.” When it comes to any future aspects, Roberts would like to nationally open up more barber studios and produce his own line of hair and skin products. Combined with his faith and dedication, we look forward to seeing this happen for Mr. Tony Roberts. INSIDE THE VAULT
An ATL+ Exclusive Interview with the Legendary, Iconic, Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe Award Winning-
Louis Gossett Jr.
64 A T L + M A G A Z I N E
Louis Gossett Jr. reveals candid moments about his childhood, career and advocacy for equality. ATL + Magazine sat down with the legendary actor and activist, Louis Gossett Jr., as he shared his thoughts, experiences and legacy that has spanned for more than a half of century. His reign in the film industry is storytelling of remarkable talent. It was a sheer pleasure to have had the luxury to sit and listen to the wealth of wisdom spoken by the august. You may know him for the roles that he has starred in such as Raisin in the Sun, “Fiddler” in Alex Haley’s miniseries Roots (1977), his Golden Globe award portrayal in “The Josephine Baker Story” (1991) and Sergeant Emil Foley in An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). This is only a snippet of the prolific roles played by the legendary icon. So where do I begin? “One of Many” Born in Brooklyn, New York, Louis Gossett Jr was raised by a single mother in a diverse community where he was exposed to culture and “the cream of the crop of the intellectuals.” His neighbors were Jewish, Irish and Italian. “I was one of many, as what mankind should be. Many of them were running from Hitler, and it wasn’t until then that I realized that I was different because of the color of my skin; and that we all are running from something. I felt very comfortable being one of many.” At the age of twelve, Gossett recalls having a life changing conversation with his “buddy” and neighbor, Stanley Ralph Ross, also known as the chief writer of the Batman series, that caused him to have a paradigm shift. One day while playing Superman together, Gossett said he felt as though he wasn’t doing a good job of imitating the Super hero. When asked what was wrong, Gossett shared with his friend that after looking in the mirror he acknowledged that he didn’t look like Superman. In response, his friend reassured self esteem within him. “That’s ok, you’re Superman today.” It was at that very moment, Gossett became free of the destruction of being black and ultimately the color of his skin. “If it wasn’t for that wonderful meeting with Stanley Ralph Ross, I would probably be an incurable needy low self esteem black man today.” “Everybody is Superman Today” He later became the “first” as president of his junior and senior highschool; and never having seen a play, he opened up as the lead in a broadway play, Take A Giant Step, at the age of seventeen. Gossett won the Donaldson Award for this performance in 1952 for best newcomer to theater, and before graduating from high school, he appeared in Desk Set with Shirley Booth (1954). His best friends were the titanic moguls of film and television, Lee Strasberg, of the Actors Studio, David Siskin, also known as “Mr. Entertainment,” and Lew R. Wasserman, who created Universal Pictures. Gossett started in the first Universal movie of the week in the year of 1966. Acting Came Naturally Gossett became acclimated to acting by practicing in front of people by singing in the intermediate choir at The First Baptist Church of Coney Island. There he sang with the Chiffons and Richie Havens and would often compete at the Brooklyn Paramount against musical greats such as The Dixie Hummingbirds, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and Jackie Wilsoncoming in at either fifth or sixth place. Gossett’s height, 6 ‘4, provided him the opportunity to attend New York University with a basketball scholarship which opened the door for him to play for the New York Knicks in 1958. Deciding to shelve his athletic skills, Gossett furthered his passion for acting and began his studies for acting at The Actors Studio. As fate would have it, his undeniable gift was recognized and he was cast in the production and play of Raisin in the Sun (1961). He performed alongside Academy Award winner, Sydney Poiter, Ruby Dee, Claudia McNeil and other great actors. musical “The Color Purple,” presented W W Wby . A TWarner L P L U S MBrothers. rank Ski-
Who is Frank Ski?
Considered to be among the greatest. Avant-garde, legendary, gifted and talented; Frank Ski has been in the game for more than 30 years. Self- made, and now syndicated, Frank Ski’s ingenuity for connecting with his audience, by bringing humor, relevant subject matter, discussions, and “inspirational vitamins,” accompanied by music and celebrity guests, has crowned him with such titles as, “The Rainmaker of Urban Radio” and “The Pied Piper” of DJ’s. He has been “the voice” heard throughout the air waves on platforms signaling from Baltimore, D.C., and Atlanta. Born Frank Rodriguez, Frank Ski began his career in radio from the encouragement of his mentor while attending college at the University of District Columbia. With intentions on becoming the next “Johnny Cochran,” Ski would spend his spare time DJing and breakdancing when he wasn’t working as a paralegal. He was recognized by the owner (also a lawyer) of UDC’s radio show from his name being listed in the paper as “The Best DJ in D.C.” Asked to come and host a show, reluctantly, Ski accepted the offer; expressing his belief that DJ’s don’t make money. In response, he was given the advice, “If you’re doing what you love, and you’re not making money doing it; then you must be doing something wrong.” He vividly remembers those words till this day. And to him, the gentleman who was only a lawyer, became his lifelong lawyer and mentor to this day. Frank Ski went from being the discjockey in the evenings to co-hosting the number one rated morning show, The Frank and Jean Morning Show on Baltimore’s V-103. The 80’s- Back in the Day It was during this era that Frank Ski made his entrance into the music and radio industry. For many of us, we weren’t even born, let alone can recall anything remotely from this time frame. Having spent summers in New York with his mother, Ski grew up in the era when hip hop was just coming on the scene. He was greatly influenced and ultimately became a prodigy of the culture of hip hop. Ski gives credence to how music videos changed and unified the landscape of hip hop by creating a style that could be seen across America. Becoming more acclimated with his calling, Ski began to make musical beats that would go down in history for generations to come. In the early 90’s, Ski joined ranks with Luke Skyywalker Records and 2 Live Crew. For those who had the 70 A T L + M A G A Z I N E
luxury of enjoying the music of this era, naturally recall dancing to the beats of Uncle Luke and enjoying Freak Nik during spring break. Ski can easily be remembered for his mega hit- rapping under his fictitious character “Doo Doo Brown.” During this time, Ski was able to sell a lot of his music for a minimal price. What he received back in the day, is nowhere near as to what they’re worth today. His advice for the younger generation and even for those who are novices coming into the music industry: “One of the most important things you can do is own your own. Don’t sell your beats. Have ownership of all your music.” “Back[SDM1] then $5k was a lot of money.” But in hindsight, the money that his beats have generated from other artists sampling his music, far surpasses $5k. “Look at the lives of legendary Motown greats, and how they lost control of their music. Copyright and publish all your music. When other artists begin to sample your music, you become part owner of their songs.” Ski’s musical catalog is distinguishable and decorated with well-known greats. We can hear his voice in the renowned wedding and dance song that gets everyone out of their seats, “Wobble.” In addition, the lyrics to his song, “Whore’s in this House” are now being sung by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. “There’s some whores in this house, There’s some whores in this house. His musical ingenuity isn’t just limited to rap and secular music. He has also worked with gospel artists. Mentioning, Ski has worked with the legendary great, gospel singer Hezekiah Walker; specifically mentioning the song “99 ½ won’t do.” Realizing his time was up in Baltimore, Ski moved to Atlanta in 1998. He began working at (WVEE)V103 with his comedian cohost Wanda Smith. His legacy is enriched with the monumental interviews of the legendary Coretta Scott King, Wayne Williams, who was convicted for the Atlanta Child Murders, former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, Jay-Z and Stevie Wonder, to name a few. Ski’s “God-sent” abilities have opened many doors for him. Frank Ski was born and raised in Harlem, New York, into a multicultural family with his parents coming from Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. He was sent to foster care by his mother, and at the age of six, Frank moved to live with his father, in Miami, Florida. While there, he grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood, and became fluent in Spanish. Regardless of his origin- he has been widely accepted in the African American community. And, well, his music and dance moves are definitely indicative of his soul-ties within the African American culture. He admits that his Puerto Rican heritage provided him with opportunities that other African Americans did not have. Making "HIS"tory Frank Ski’s accomplishments are superior and noteworthy. In addition to his multifaceted catalog of music- you can also add acting, philanthropy, mentorship, and volunteerism to his repertoire. Ski has an innate passion for helping others and especially children. In 2002, he founded The Frank Ski Kids Foundation. The foundation focuses on science, technology, robotics and sports. Honing in on the importance of climate change,
Inspired to do what he loved, Frank Ski chose to follow his heart and today his voice is revered as the pioneer of urban radio.
Ski’s mission is to raise awareness and educate our youth as much as possible. By providing low-income families and youth- based organizations with educational opportunities, The Frank Ski Kids Foundation is doing a remarkable job of making the impossible- possible! In 2007, the foundation started The Planet Green Initiative, globally, focused on educating kids about worldwide conservation and preservation efforts by guiding them on trips around the world. For the foundation’s first trip, the group traveled to the Charles Darwin Research Station in the Galapagos Islands, blueprinting the trip as the first visit to the research center by an African-American foundation. The foundation has also privileged students with the opportunities to NASA space camp, the Amazon rainforest, and Puerto Rico. “Young people will only become what they see or what they’ve seen,” Ski said. “How do you change people’s mind with it being a decision that they want to make this world a better place to live? ... We believe at the foundation the only way to do that is to change the minds of our young people.” In 2002, Rev. Jesse Jackson presented Ski with the Journalist of the Year Award from the Rainbow Push Coalition. Later, in 2004, Ski became the spokesperson for the Civil Rights Walk of Fame, raising more than $500,000 for the Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry and Homeless Inc., as well as, for the Metro Atlanta Respite & Development Services. He has also been honored with the Distinguished Community Service Award from the Atlanta Chapter of the National Urban League. He
is a member of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, the Latin American Association, Rainbow Push Coalition and Leadership Atlanta. His acting career includes The Players Club (1998), Motives (2004) You Got Served (2004) The Gospel (2005) Madea Goes to Jail (2009) and Kasha and the Zulu King (2012). Ski was recently awarded “The Songwriter’s Award” from BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) for the use of his beats and lyrics by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, “Whore’s in this House.” The BMI Awards are annual award ceremonies for songwriters in various genres organized by Broadcast Music, Inc., honoring songwriters and publishers. You can now listen to The Frank Ski Show on multiple platforms. The show received a syndication deal with Compass Media Networks and talent management agency Oceanic Tradewinds last October. Since then, the show has been picked up by 11 stations in such markets as Birmingham, AL; Lawton, OK; Greenville, MS; Sarasota, FL; and Columbus, GA, among others. “I am honored by the trust these great broadcasters have put in The Frank Ski Show with Nina Brown and we are going to outwork and outperform everyone.” Ski desires to reach as many listeners as he can within the African American community. “Every city needs a Frank Ski. If not me personally, someone like me who is willing to get the information out there to the people.” Ski wants his legacy to be remembered as someone who really cared. The Story that
“PUSH”ed him into Destiny 84 A T L + M A G A Z I N E
In the Beginning Skater Kyle Dutcher, born and raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, has a story to tell that describes his perseverance and tenacity that ultimately pushed him into destiny. The Atlanta native, and celebrity skater, has made a name for himself at the center of Atlanta’s skate culture. Dutcher, in the mid-2000s, at the age of 26, started his unforeseen and successful journey in the art of skateboarding. Inspired by his three-year-old daughter, and her desire to go skating how it all began. Stemming from their father and daughter time together, Dutcher took hold of skating. He then mixed his love of ATL’s skate style with JB’s (James Brown, The Godfather of Soul) skate style, originating from Chicago. Dutcher decided to hone in on his precision skills, creating a style of his own; and building a platform that would later catapult him to the level of greatness he has achieved. “Skating to me is rewarding. It’s a cool way to meet and greet new people.” Taking advantage of the epicenter, Dutcher used the Atlanta monument, “Cascade,” as his training ground. The skating
rink has been a staple in the community for years. Constructed in the late ’90s, formerly known as “Cascade Family Skating,” “Cascade,” has hosted celebrity greats such as Magic Johnson, Beyonce, P. Diddy, and many more. Moreso, it was the skate down for the movie “ATL”; produced by Chris Robinson in 2006. Other Greats PUSH, a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), starred in the first Apple iPod commercial and America’s Got Talent. In addition, he participated as a consultant in the skate crew “The Preps” from his city of origin, the classic movie “ATL.” In 2020, Season 2 of Wife Swap, featured on the Paramount Network, PUSH, was featured, and as a result, the episode is viewed as one of the most famous and divisive episodes. Watch it for yourself. As if 2020 was not bringing enough hype and success, PUSH signed a contract with the talent acquisition agency KXNGPXN Skating Alliance, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The contract spawned other business ventures wherein PUSH collaborated with Nike and Ocean Spray. You can also see PUSH representing WWW.ATLPLUSMAGAZINE.COM
