ELIZABETH

OMILAMI

CHAMPIONING JUSTICE: THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF ELIZABETH OMILAMI, ATLANTA’S ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE In the heart of Atlanta, amidst the bustling streets and towering skyscrapers, lies a beacon of hope and resilience, embodied by one of the city’s most influential figures: Elizabeth Omilami. As the President of a multifaceted organization dedicated to serving the community, Omilami’s journey from the civil rights movement to her current role is not just a testament to her personal dedication, but also to the transformative power of unwavering commitment to social justice. For Omilami, the path to leadership was paved with the footsteps of her parents, who themselves were fervent advocates for human rights during the tumultuous 1960s and 70s. Raised in a family deeply rooted in the fight for righteousness alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Omilami’s upbringing instilled in her a profound sense of duty to serve others. Witnessing firsthand the struggles and triumphs of the civil rights movement, she learned that true freedom and justice require selfless dedication and unwavering resolve. Driven by her convictions, Omilami embarked on a journey that took her across the globe, from medical missions in Haiti to ministry work in South Africa. Yet, it was her return to West End Atlanta, where the need for compassionate leadership was most profound, that solidified her commitment to making a difference in her community. Despite the challenges and sacrifices that came with dedicating herself to the service of others, Omilami’s passion for creating a more just and equitable society never wavered. As a trailblazer in her field, Omilami has encountered numerous challenges, chief among them being the perpetual struggle to secure funding for her organization’s vital work. Yet, she remains undeterred, recognizing that the true obstacle lies not in the lack of resources, but in the lack of collective will to address the root causes of suffering and injustice. supreme, and where the boundaries between art and fashion blur. In this captivating fusion, jewelry becomes more than just an accessory—it becomes a form of self-expression, a celebration of beauty, and a testament to the enduring power of creativity.

At the heart of this fusion lies the artistry and craftsmanship of jewelry-making. From ancient civilizations to modern-day ateliers, artisans have honed their skills to create intricate pieces that are both visually stunning and technically masterful. With an honorary doctorate in humanitarianism, Nicole has not only carved out a niche for herself in the wine industry but has also become one of the most influential women in Metro Atlanta. Nicole’s foray into the world of wine was unconventional, to say the least. Rather than relying on formal training or industry experience, she dove headfirst into the wine industry fueled by a deep passion and curiosity sparked by numerous wine tours. The idea of creating her own wine brand, HER Wine, stemmed from a desire to fill a gap in the market and represent her diverse experiences and values as a woman. However, building HER Wine was anything but smooth sailing. Nicole faced numerous challenges along the way, forcing her to learn to fail forward, embrace setbacks, and pivot with grace under pressure. Despite the obstacles, she remained steadfast in her vision, armed with a relentless drive to see her wine on shelves across Metro Atlanta. Nicole attributes much of her success to collaborations, mentorships, and community engagements. By weaving her personal passions with a commitment to service and inclusion, she not only participated in her field but emerged as a leader in it. Her recognition as one of the most powerful women in Metro Atlanta is a testament to the collective strength of the voices and hands that have lifted her and those she’s had the privilege to lift in return. A significant challenge Nicole faced early in her career was her limited expertise in the wine industry. Launching HER Wine at 30 with minimal wine education posed a considerable hurdle. Recognizing the gap between her passion and the knowledge required to succeed, Nicole embarked on a journey of self-education, diving into podcasts, books, and seeking guidance from mentors. Her determination to bridge the gap between passion and expertise propelled her forward, ultimately leading to the success of HER Wine. Mentorship played a pivotal role in Nicole’s journey, 160

In addition to her work with HER Wine, Nicole is actively involved in initiatives aimed at empowering women in Atlanta and beyond. One such initiative is HER Time Away, an exclusive self-care tour designed to foster intentional “me time” for participants. By visiting minority-owned businesses specializing in selfcare experiences, HER Time Away offers women the opportunity to pause, reflect, and indulge in muchneeded self-care. A pivotal moment in Nicole’s career came during her breast cancer journey, where she learned to lead through influence rather than direct involvement. This shift in leadership style marked a transformative period for HER Wine, fostering a culture of empowerment and innovation within the company. Looking ahead, Nicole’s goals are clear and focused: to elevate HER Wine into a household name symbolizing self-care and personal time. She aims to make self-care accessible and affordable through initiatives like HER Time Away, empowering women to prioritize their well-being in a world that often demands otherwise.
