
Call for Applications: Volume Editor – The Equity Review (Inaugural Edition)

The Atlantic Institute is delighted to invite applications for the Volume Editor of the inaugural edition of The Equity Review, a new biennial, open-access publication currently being developed through active discussion with Oxford University Press.
Through transformative dialogue, The Equity Review will connect researchers, practitioners and voices from communities directly impacted by inequities, providing essential insights and innovative solutions that bring lasting improvements to people’s lives by addressing the causes of systemic challenges. This flagship publication will blend research, lived experiences and expert analysis to advance equity, offering different perspectives on climate change, health, racial and gender justice, social and economic inequality and more.
The first edition, launching in October 2026, will explore the theme: “Advancing a Fair and Equitable Shift to a Green Future.”
It will be followed by a global summit in 2027 to further dialogue and action on this critical theme.
Please note: This role is subject to approval of the publication proposal being submitted to the Delegates of the Press at the University of Oxford in August 2025. Pending approval, the consultancy would commence in October 2025 and run through to October 2026.
Position summary
We are seeking an experienced, equity-driven Editor to coordinate and oversee the editorial development of the inaugural edition of The Equity Review. The Editor will play a central role in shaping the intellectual and editorial vision of the publication, in collaboration with Oxford University Press, the Atlantic Institute and an expert Advisory Group.
This is a unique opportunity to steward a high-impact, interdisciplinary and global publication at the intersection of research, practice and policy.
Key responsibilities:
● Oversee the editorial process for the inaugural edition, from proposal review to final publication
● In close coordination with the Advisory Group, review, edit and finalize volume chapters (5,000–7,500 words each), along with introductory and concluding sections.
● Collaborate with Oxford University Press and the Atlantic Institute team on editorial strategy, tone and quality standards.
● Work with selected contributors, providing constructive developmental feedback, editorial guidance and deadline management to ensure clarity, accessibility and rigor.
● Liaise with the Advisory Group and support peer review coordination.
● Support the development of additional content for the publication (e.g., foreword, summaries, author bios) in collaboration with the project team.
● Contribute to knowledge mobilization efforts, including shaping the accompanying 2026 launch.
Service requirements
We are looking for someone who brings a compelling combination of:
● Editorial experience, preferably with academic or interdisciplinary publications
● A deep understanding of social and economic equity, climate justice and systemic change, either through research, lived experience, or professional practice.
● A demonstrated ability to bridge academic insight with practitioner and community knowledge.
● Experience supporting diverse contributors, including early-career writers and those outside traditional academic spaces
● A collaborative leadership style, cultural humility and commitment to inclusive co-production of knowledge.
● Familiarity with publishing or partnering with Oxford University Press or other leading publishers is an asset.
Terms and professional fees for the entire project
This is a part-time consultancy role, subject to the approval of The Equity Review publication proposal by the Delegates of the Press at the University of Oxford. The appointment is expected to begin in October 2025 and conclude upon publication of the inaugural edition in October 2026.
A fixed fee of £15,000 (inclusive of VAT) will be offered for the scope of editorial work associated with the first issue.
Time Commitment
This is a flexible, project-based consultancy. Specific hours, days and estimated time commitment will be discussed with interested consultants based on availability and project needs.
