RETURNING Honouring your Fellowship journey
This section is designed to support you in thinking about how far you have come and to help you chart the route to your next milestones with clear intention. You do not need to have all the answers in one sitting, but the hope is that you will continue to iterate as you progress through the Global Gateway and beyond. What has shaped me? This is an opportunity to capture your own leadership story. Our stories help us understand where we have come from, what has shaped us, and why the work we do matters. Capturing your leadership story is not simply about recording the past; it is an opportunity to notice the experiences, relationships, values and turning points that have shaped who you are becoming, and what you might carry into the next chapter. What has led you to this point? How did the Fellowship year shape your story? Think about:
Stories that stay with you

Moments of courage
Moments of surprise

BECOMING Reflecting on your leadership identity
As we journey through different life experiences and seasons we are constantly evolving. This is not to say that our identities change completely, but, when we take on more or fewer different types of responsibility, we might find that these add new dimensions to our identity. At times we also lean into different aspects of ourselves depending on the context or need at a particular moment. This is why identities are often regarded as fluid, shifting over time as a result of our positionality. This section is designed to provide a moment of pause for you to reflect on how you would define your leadership. The aim is to assess how you are leveraging all the resources available to you. These include your talents, expertise, network and opportunities.
What does my leadership become when I engage collectively?
How would I describe my style of leadership?
What role do I play in this ecosystem, and how do I interact with others?
What have I had to unlearn?
What kind of leader am I becoming?
How have my assumptions shifted and why?
What do I need to support me in reaching my next stage of leadership?
What questions do I still have about the future?
Belonging is a crucial aspect of building community. For us, belonging does not mean sameness and it goes beyond inclusion. As john a. powell reminds us, belonging asks whether people have genuine agency to shape a common space together. True belonging means participating in the co-creation of those communities, institutions, and systems to which we belong. It requires both power and responsibility, and both need to be equally distributed for a sustained community to function. The next section is designed to support you to clarify the kind of community you would like to co-create as part of the Atlantic Fellows global network. It offers you a space to grapple with our community’s shared values.
BELONGING Joining a global community
What kind of community do I want to help create? What do I need to support me in reaching my next stage of leadership?
What does belonging ask of me?
How do I make room for others?
Whose voices do I still need to seek?
Where might collaboration become possible?
How can I lean into the values of the Atlantic Fellows community as a way to foster shared belonging?
Living our values is an essential part of our leadership journey. The next section supports you as we think together about our shared praxis in the Atlantic Fellows community. We hope that you will find it sustaining to return to this section as you journey through the lifelong Fellowship. Over time your response to these questions might shift and that is part of the process for evolving and reimagining the self and how to be in community with others.
PRACTISING Living as a catalyst
How will I develop and practice my leadership in this community? Transforming through discomfort What conversations stretch me?
Where do I notice myself becoming defensive?
What am I avoiding?
How do I recognize my power?
What privilege do I carry with me?
Dis-Covery "The fragmenting is essential; we need to break up a bit to see the interconnections." - Chellie Spiller, Atlantic Fellows Leader in Residence, 2024 Dis-Covery is more than finding something new. It is uncovering what was hidden, loosening old assumptions, and allowing new perspectives to emerge. Sometimes that means letting parts of ourselves break open so that something wiser can grow.
What have I uncovered?
What new perspectives are beginning to emerge?
What beliefs have I started questioning?
What new possibilities are beginning to emerge?
Healing What have I dis-covered that now needs re-imagining?
What needs tending?
What season of leadership am I in?
Where is my energy taking me?
What sustains me?
Bridge of praxis What am I noticing?
What does it mean for my leadership practice?
What will I do differently in the future?
Take a look at the offerings available through participation in the Global Atlantic Fellows Community and map out how you could engage with them. What might you bring to others within our community?
