pring is in full bloom at Atlanta Symphony Hall and we’re excited to introduce Atlanta Symphony Hall LIVE, which combines all the great concerts from ASO Presents and the Delta Pops series under one umbrella.

Atlanta Symphony Hall LIVE will present popular artists and musicians from around the world, with many being joined by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. From pop to rock to country to comedy, Atlanta Symphony Hall LIVE offers a little something for every music and entertainment lover.

Check out the Atlanta Symphony Hall LIVE calendar of events for all of the shows on sale now, and stay tuned for additional performances announced throughout the season. On April 20, we’ll welcome Rocktopia Live: A Classical (R)evolution, celebrating the fusion of classical music with classic rock. This

live concert delivers one-ofa-kind musical arrangements featuring five world-class vocalists, five rock musicians, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Also in April, Broadway star and Georgia native Sutton Foster joins us on April 21 and 22. The Tony Award-winning triple threat will be singing songs from some of her Broadway shows and other favorite tunes alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

For die-hard fans of the King himself, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will perform an orchestral tribute with the Music of Elvis on May 19 and 20. Celebrate the life and musical legacy of Elvis Presley during a tribute performance packed with the King of Rock & Roll’s vast catalogue of hits. Alliance Theatre announces its 2017/18 season on the road!

A

tlanta’s nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre is pleased to announce the productions and venues of the 2017/18 season. The Alliance will take all the shows of the 49th season on the road to multiple venues around the city while the current theater space undergoes a complete renovation, its first since the building opened in 1968.

Each production in the season was carefully selected to match its venue, like SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE at Oglethorpe University’s Conant Center for the Performing Arts, the former home of Georgia Shakespeare, and CROSSING DELANCEY, the heartwarming play that looks at two generations of Jewish-American culture, at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta. And there’s HAND TO GOD, the hilarious and irreverent puppet comedy, at Dad’s Garage, and Natasha Tretheway’s Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of poetry, NATIVE GUARD, that examines lost stories of AfricanAmerican Union troops at the Atlanta History Center just steps away from their extensive Civil War collection. And the Alliance will coproduce a concert staging of the Tony Awardwinning musical CANDIDE in Symphony Hall

with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, plus an outdoor adaptation of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Alliance will also produce this year’s Alliance/Kendeda Competition winner at Actor’s Express, two one-act plays by Pearl Cleage at the Southwest Arts Center, three plays for youth and families at Spelman College, the Galloway School, and Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center, and its annual production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL at the Cobb Energy Centre.

In addition to the Alliance’s season on the road, the Alliance will produce four Kathy & Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young productions and one play space at the Woodruff Arts Center. Theatre for the Very Young produces professional productions designed for children ages infant-5 years old.

The Alliance plans to return to its new theater space in time for its 50th anniversary season in late 2018.

New Work by Women Shines at Synchronicity This Spring

ynchronicity Theatre will present two powerful new plays by women playwrights this spring. The world premiere of Andrea Lepcio’s Strait of Gibraltar takes the stage in March-April, followed by a limited-run workshop production of Decatur native Lauren Gunderson’s The Heath in May. In Strait of Gibraltar, Sameer, an undocumented Moroccan man living in New York, and Miriam, a Jewish-American woman, fall in love. A sexy romance turns into a thriller when a favor Sameer asks of Miriam results in their arrest. Sameer is suspected of terrorism and Miriam of money laundering. Strait of Gibraltar is a new play that examines the impact of the Patriot Act on our rights.

The world premiere is directed by Synchronicity’s producing artistic director Rachel May, who states that the play, “puts engaged, civil discourse at the forefront” and asks timely questions about love, connection, trust, and our interactions with “the other.”

Sims as Sameer, Kathleen Wattis as Selma, Brian Ashton Smith as Tripp and Suehyla El Attar as Amina. Performances are Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 5pm, through April 23rd, 2017.

Lauren Gunderson’s new, deeply personal bluegrass musical The Heath comes to Synchronicity for two nights only, May 4-5. Originally slated for Synchronicity’s 2015-16 season and postponed due to a personal project of another kind (Gunderson welcoming her second child), The Heath features a woman (the playwright herself), a man and a banjo. Interweaving family lore with Shakespeare’s King Lear, The Heath grapples with mortality, madness and regret while celebrating life, music and the power of a good story. Performances are at 8pm on May 4th and 5th.

he 40th Anniversary of the Atlanta Jazz Festival will take place Memorial Day Weekend (May 26th – 28th) at Piedmont Park and is the perfect way to spend the holiday. Admission is free.

his spring, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s Artistic Director, Geoffrey Sherman, presents his final Shakespeare production at ASF, Kenneth Cavender’s transcription of The Tempest. Commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s “Play On” initiative, Cavender’s transcription has updated some of the archaic English while respectfully maintaining Shakespeare’s masterful poetry and word play.

MNTITS is proud to dedicate their first full theatrical season to entertainment that represents the many voices of our rich Atlanta area.

In April we’re bringing you Native Son

by Nambi E. Kelley, a dramatic adaptation of

This play by Carmen Rivera chronicles the touching journey of Maria, a young Puerto Rican American who returns to Puerto Rico to get to know her roots, finding comedy and growth along the way.

The Glass Menagerie opens in late August.

We are proud to present this Tennessee Williams classic — a tale of memories and family tension told by Tom as he recalls his troubled household and its fragility.

In September we bring you the bombastic new play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity. The Elaborate Entrance tells the story of Mace, a professional wrestler who is paid to lose, until he finds a way to rise in the ranks in this brilliant, fresh, socio-political comedy.

Closing out our season is Gift of the Magi; our 2016 hit adaptation of the O. Henry classic has been extended to evoke joy and spirit in our audiences’ hearts throughout the holidays.

The Dancing Granny Delights Alliance Theatre Showgoers The Dancing Granny is a world premiere for youth and families based on the beloved children’s book by 2017 Newbery Medal winner Ashley Bryan. Kids and adults will be tapping their feet all over Atlanta as Ananse, the clever spider of African folklore, tries to trick Granny into dancing away from her garden so he can take her vegetables.
