NEW FACULTY FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM 2024 - 2025 ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

MISSION & CORE VALUES MISSION:

To develop courageous leaders who will change their world for the better.

CORE VALUES:

The joy of learning and purposeful effort.

MUTUAL RESPECT AND UNDERSTANDING IN AN INTENTIONALLY INCLUSIVE AND INTERCULTURAL COMMUNITY. As a result, the Board of Trustees remains committed to allocating funds each year for financial aid so that the school can admit and retain qualified students regardless of their families’ ability to pay full tuition. AIS is committed to providing need-based financial aid to children of full-time AIS employees. We believe our community is made stronger by the participation of employee children in our school and we continue to work to equitably provide our employee families as much tuition support as our funding allows. AIS also provides grants for assistance with technology, field trips and other curricular activities for qualifying families. All families should expect to make some contribution to the total cost of education. Financial aid decisions are made independently from Admission decisions and in no way affect a candidate’s chances for admission. The Financial Aid Program is open to students of any race, creed, and national or ethnic origin.

FOR NEW FACULTY RECRUITMENT We offer a guaranteed two-year FA award to new, full-time employees. Year One: The award is based on a group percentage unless a new employee has (1) rental property/ies and/or (2) investment assets other than retirement accounts in excess of USD 30K. In this case, the employee will need to complete a Clarity application to receive their two-year award. If your family is a one-income household, we recommend completing a financial aid application since you may qualify for a higher aid award. Year Two: We ask new faculty to complete an application to understand their potential award for Year Three. Award Categories are created by using averages for similar current families.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE TUITION WILL BE COVERED? On average, anywhere from 76.7% - 81.4% of tuition is covered by Financial Aid funds. However, Financial Aid is need-based, meaning families with high incomes may not qualify, while others may qualify for 100% of tuition assistance.

ARE STAFF/FACULTY GUARANTEED AN AWARD? We offer a guaranteed two-year Financial Aid award for new full-time hires.* After the first year, new employees are asked to apply for awards through our need-based Financial Aid Process to understand the level of aid they will qualify for in year three. Given that Financial Aid is need-based, employees must qualify to receive an award.

WHAT DOES “NEED-BASED” MEAN? “Need-based financial aid” means that funds are awarded based on the demonstrated need calculated through the Clarity application. This calculation, used by a majority of independent schools in the United States, will consider the income, assets, number of dependents, etc and will give the school an amount the family would be able to contribute toward tuition based on the formula. The award would be given to cover the difference between what the family can afford to pay and the tuition amount.

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE AWARD? The average employee award for the 2023 - 2024 school year was $25,113.

IS IT A LOAN? DO I NEED TO PAY IT BACK? The financial aid award is a grant, not a loan and does not need to be repaid.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVEN’T FILED U.S. TAXES? Your initial financial aid award will be a two-year award based on a group percentage, so no tax documents are required in Year 1* unless you would like to apply for additional funds. In this case, we do not need a U.S. tax return in order to complete the financial aid application.

S DO I HAVE TO REAPPLY EVERY YEAR? Your initial Financial Aid award will be a two-year award based on a group percentage. The financial aid awarded in year one will apply in year two without another application being submitted. If income changes by more than USD $10K or assets change by more than USD $30K, an application is required for year two.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED? You do not need to complete a Financial Aid application in order to be awarded the initial new hire group percentage. If you believe you qualify for additional funds, please contact the Financial Aid Office in order to complete a Financial Aid application.

WHEN WILL I HEAR ABOUT MY AWARD AMOUNT? The percentage of tuition covered is based on one of three categories (see Table 1). This is your guaranteed* financial aid award amount. If you applied for additional funds, the deadline for submitting your financial aid application and all supporting documents is March 1, 2024. Notifications of awards are sent out on the first Saturday in April.

WILL MY AWARD STAY THE SAME EACH YEAR? Financial Aid applications will be completed every year. Your award should stay fairly consistent as long as you have not experienced a significant life change such as childbirth, divorce, job loss, additional income, etc. *Unless a new employee has (1) rental property/ies and or (2) investment assets other than retirement accounts in excess of USD 30K. In this case, please contact the Financial Aid Office for additional details.

GUIDELINES FAMILY CONTRIBUTION

Our goal is to meet as much of each family’s demonstrated need as we can. However, we expect those requiring our assistance to help extend our resources as widely as possible by contributing as much as they can to their own children’s education.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Financial information submitted by parents in support of aid applications are held in confidence by the Financial Aid Committee and is retained on file for only a limited time. Financial aid recipients are not identified at the school, except as necessary to evaluate their performance and to possibly distribute aid for technology and field trip stipends.

COMPUTATION

Atlanta International School subscribes to the principles and services of Clarity for Financial Aid, which provides us, at the request of parents, financial analysis based on the confidential statement of need.
