There will be a round of 16 matches on June 29 and July 1, and the quarterfinal match will be on July 5.

As you stroll along the Atlanta Beltline or drive around ATL, it’s impossible to miss the murals that add a pop of color to The City in the Forest. The Atlanta Beltline is home to one of the largest temporary public art exhibits, and artists representing the LGBTQIA+ community are among those who have made their mark on Atlanta’s outdoor art gallery.
BY TAYLOR BOSER
In East Atlanta’s Pullman Yards district, the Everything 2 Me mural was created for the Black LGBTQIA+ community by Lasalle, a Black queer artist. He creates work that is deeply personal, pulling from life, relationships and emotions.
Along the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail is an iconic piece of artwork on the Edgewood Avenue Bridge. It is part of Lisette Correa’s Taino series, “Somos Borincanos,” and is dedicated to the artist’s grandmother. Correa, known as ARRRTADDICT, combines design and storytelling, and the work adds a nod to her Carribean roots. Just below the bridge, one of Correa’s murals leaves the following message on an abstract horizontal painting: “To be grounded in who we are today, we must first remember our roots.”
Krista M. Jones, known as JONESY, is best known for vibrant, symbolic patterned murals and complex canvas paintings.
In South Atlanta, see JONESY’s FLORA III mural at The Beacon. FLORA III marked the third of her FORMATIONS series, which features similar artwork throughout Atlanta neighborhoods.
Another piece of Lasalle’s art can be seen around town on a MARTA bus. Designed for Atlanta Pride in 2024, it was meant to capture what it feels like to be Black and gay in the South.
Perhaps the most visible artwork celebrating the LGBTQ+ community is the Rainbow Crosswalk at the corner of 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue in Midtown. It is a popular place to snap a photo, perhaps each year during the Atlanta Pride Parade.
The Five Points MARTA station Downtown features more of JONESY’s artwork in the form of three-dimensional sculptures.

The small eatery’s refreshing Halo Halo drink is created with shaved ice and evaporated milk, then topped with anything from leche flan to jellied fruit, Pocky sticks, gummy candy and a tropical umbrella. Also don’t miss the brightly colored ube churros, drizzled with ube halaya syrup.
Located in Plaza Fiesta, this treat shop stocks beautiful paletas and ice cream for an after lunch or dinner treat. Try the mangonada – a frozen beverage with mangoes, lime juice, chamoy sauce and a chili-lime salt seasoning. The refreshing Fresaleta is strawberry, whipped cream and ice cream blended in a cup and adorned with wafer cookies.
The matcha latte banana pudding started out as a special and combines regular matcha, banana pudding, fresh bananas and vanilla wafers. The treat was so popular that it is available as a regular item now but you have to ask for it as it is not on the menu. Or, try the Maiko Special which combines matcha soft serve, corn flakes, matcha chiffon, squares of pound cake and shiratama mochi for a quick cool down.
Grab a Fresh Cream Soboro, a sweet bun stuffed with mounds of luscious cream, and try the Dacquoise Cream Cookie filled with buttercream. But really, it’s hard to choose between those and the ganache macarons, or stunning cakes such as mango cheesecake, Black Forest cake and Dubai-styled Basque cheesecake.
It’s hard to choose a favorite with the vast amount of options at this local shop, but the springy chocolate hokkaido, a Japanese cupcake, is decadent with a finishing touch of chocolate buttercream. But, then there’s the mango pudding bun with mango pudding hiding inside, shaped like a paw print. And, don’t forget the tempting doughnuts, crispy cookies and a whole selection of swiss rolls.
This Korean French bakery serves the popular Bungeoppang Korean street food snack, a fish-shaped pastry with either creamy custard or red bean filling. Don’t miss the giant croissant filled with cream and sliced strawberries. Or, get really interesting and try the green bean or sweet potato manju - small baked treats perfect for a snack.

It all starts July 11 with the HBCU Swingman Classic showcasing the best players from HBCUs around the country. All-Star Saturday on July 12 will feature the Futures Game with the best young talent in the minor leagues, then shortly after that a mix of luminaries and legends will take the field in the Celebrity Softball Game. The MLB Draft will start on July 13 and take place here in Atlanta. July 14 will see the biggest hitters in baseball take the field for the Home Run Derby. Finally on July 15, the All-Star Game will take place. The Battery was made to host big events like this and if you’re a baseball fan, you won’t want to be anywhere else in the world other than Truist Park and The Battery for All-Star Week.
The baseball action goes on all summer at Truist Park, as the Atlanta Braves continue to bring the heat. As usual, the promotional schedule is full of events and giveaways. There will be a Truist Park replica giveaway on June 4, a Spencer Strider bobblehead (featuring his dog, Kipnis) giveaway on June 17, a Braves rope hat giveaway on July 21, Volume 2 of the Spencer Strider Vinyl giveaway (yes, an actual vinyl record) on

Before the FIFA Men’s World Cup™ comes to town in 2026, the best club teams in the world will come to the United States this summer for the expanded FIFA Club World Cup™. The world-renowned Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will play host to six matches during this event: Chelsea FC of England will take on Club León of Mexico on June 16, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will face FC Porto of Portugal on June 19 and England’s Manchester City will face off against Al Ain FC of the United Arab Emirates on June 22. Additionally, Atlanta will host two round of 16 games (June 29 and July 1) and then host a quarterfinal match on July 5. This is a golden opportunity to see some of the most star-studded club teams in the world. If you’re a soccer fan, you can’t miss this event.
Manchester City and Chelsea won’t be the only English teams coming to town. Four of England’s most popular clubs will come to Atlanta for the Premier League Summer Series’ second visit to
Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The action will start at 2 p.m. on Aug. 3, as AFC Bournemouth faces West Ham United before Everton FC takes on Manchester United. Again, if you enjoy soccer then you have to be there for this.
Atlanta’s home team will also be in action this summer. Atlanta United FC will play not just against MLS’s best but also against Mexican competition. Atlanta United FC will play home games in MLS on July 16 against the Chicago Fire, July 19 against Charlotte FC, July 26 against the Seattle Sounders and on Aug. 24 against Toronto FC. Additionally, Atlanta United FC will play two Liga MX teams in the Leagues Cup – they’ll face Necaxa here on July 30 and then they’ll take on Atlas on Aug. 6. Atlanta United FC has become world famous for its atmosphere during home matches, and there will be plenty of chances for you to be part of that atmosphere this summer.
Brittney Griner, Rhyne Howard and new draft pick Te-Hina Paopao will take to the court as it’s time to once again run with the Atlanta Dream. The WNBA season will be in full swing during the summer, as 16 of Atlanta’s 23 home games this season will take place June through August. Promotional nights include two Commissioner’s Cup games against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on June 10 and Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on June 13. Pride Night will take place June 27 against the Minnesota Lynx, ‘90s Night is set for July 7 against the expansion team Golden State Valkyries. Sneakerhead Night will be Aug. 1 against the Phoenix Mercury, and Divine 9 Night is Aug. 29 against the Dallas Wings. There isn’t a bad seat in the house at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, so basketball fans should make it a priority to take in the action this summer.
Tradition reigns supreme once again, as the annual July 4 running of the AJC Peachtree Road Race will have its 56th edition this year. Back in January, the 55th running took place heading North as the race expanded with a new “Polar Opposite” edition that is scheduled to be held on the first Saturday of every
new year. The traditional race heading South will continue to be held on July 4. If you’ve never experienced the excitement that comes along with this race, it’s highly suggested that you go and see it for yourself. With some of the best runners in the world coming to town, it’s totally worth it to make this event part of your Independence Day celebrations.
The race for the FedEx Cup will once again come down to four days (Aug. 20-24) as the PGA Tour crowns its season champion at the historic East Lake Golf Club during the annual TOUR Championship. Thirty of the world’s best golfers will come to Atlanta for four exciting rounds of golf that will decide who goes home with the FedEx Cup trophy – and $18 million. The TOUR Championship bills itself as Atlanta’s “must-attend outdoor sporting event of the summer,” and with daily tickets starting at $35 (and kids under 15 being allowed free entry with a ticketed adult), the TOUR Championship makes it easy to see golf’s elite.
Atlanta is the place to be for college football. The annual MEAC-SWAC Challenge that helps kick off the college football season as part of “Week 0” is further proof of that. Center Parc Stadium will be loud on Aug. 23 – both on the field as the Southern Jaguars take on the North Carolina Central Eagles, and off the field as both bands will bring the noise. With the Fan Experience starting at 3 p.m. and ending at 6:30 p.m. and the gates opening at 6 p.m. with kickoff at 7:30 p.m., there’s an opportunity to spend the entire day getting ready for the Week 0 showcase. ABC will televise the game nationally, so the eyes of the college football world will once again be squarely placed upon Atlanta as these two HBCU schools square off on the gridiron.
The Woodruff Athletic Complex at Agnes Scott College in Decatur is usually peaceful and quiet. That changes for a few nights during each summer, when Atlanta Roller Derby gets rocking and rolling. June 28 will be Pride Night, as there will be a pair of Pride Bouts with the first one scheduled to start at 5 p.m. On July 26, the four home teams in action will be: Toxic Shocks vs. Glamma Rays at 5 p.m. before the Apocalypstix face off with the Black Water Reapers at 7:30 p.m. Finally on Aug. 23, Atlanta Roller Derby will defend its turf against Carolina Roller Derby in a pair of bouts –the Rolling Ruckus will square off against Carolina’s B-team at 5 p.m. and then the Rumble B’s will take on Carolina’s A-team at 7:30 p.m. With tickets starting at $20 in advance and a family-friendly (but rowdy) atmosphere, it’s absolutely worth going out to see these athletes give it their all. Just make sure to watch out for flying roller derby players.
If you had a great time visiting Atlanta, consider planning another trip to experience our fall season. Not only is the weather pretty close to perfect, but you’ll experience some of our most loved annual events.
