Imagine this: It’s the summer of 1996 and you’re 13 years old. Atlanta is buzzing with excitement as we welcome visitors from around the world for the 1996 Summer Olympics. To pay tribute, there’s a new park Downtown, aptly named Centennial Olympic Park.

Over the next two decades, you watch as downtown Atlanta’s tourist district gets even better, as it expands with the additions of Georgia Aquarium (the largest aquarium in North America), World of Coca-Cola, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights and Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame. You spend your college summers driving up Peachtree Street with the windows rolled down and Outkast blasting on the radio. You’ve packed a cooler in the back with plans to meet your friends for the day at Piedmont Park.

Fast forward to 2024. You’re the grown-up now and a parent. You’re feeling nostalgic for everything that was carefree and wanting to recreate the magic of your youth. Your own parents are aging, but they love spending time with their grandkids so you want to be sure to include them in your summer plans. Your sister texts and says she’s bringing her family for a visit to Atlanta and is counting on you to plan something fun. Here are some ideas to kick-start your summer to-do list.

SUMMER FUN AT ATLANTA’S TOP ATTRACTIONS

• There are two new experiences debuting this summer at Georgia Aquarium. Explorer’s Cove will combine two expansive touch pools with immersive technology to give

guests an opportunity to respectfully engage with rays, guitarfish, sturgeon and sharks. A new dolphin presentation – Destination: Dolphin – will wow audiences of all ages through music, lighting and effects. Those looking for a truly immersive experience will want to sit in the soak zone.

• There’s a new immersive experience at World of Coca-Cola. In the Beverage Lab you’ll have an opportunity to get an inside look at Coca-Cola beverage creation, sample formulas from the Vault and taste unreleased formulas. In the newly reimagined Scent Discovery, you can explore the Scent Library, learning

about the five scent categories then putting your nose to the test.

• Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame celebrates its 10-year anniversary with updates and renovations. The popular attraction is set to close for a week this summer with a grand reopening in August with exciting new things to see.

• Younger children, ages 8 and younger, will love a visit to Children’s Museum of Atlanta to experience Animationland, May 18-Sept. 8. They’ll be invited to create stories using art and science as well as animation basics such as storyboarding, sketching and stopmotion movie making.

• Construction at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights began on a 24,000-square-foot expansion in March. The museum remains open throughout the construction. The upcoming threestory West Wing will include a café and three new galleries, including an immersive, hands-on Family Gallery geared toward children younger than 12.

COOL THINGS TO DO WITH TWEENS AND TEENS

This summer you’re not gonna be like a regular mom, you’re a cool mom and auntie, even with the often hard-toplease tweens and teens in the family. Here are some fun things you’ll want to add to your list to keep it cool.

• The Atlanta Ice Cream Festival takes place July 27 at Piedmont Park. Enjoy great vibes while you indulge in sweet treats. It’s fun for all ages.

• Play for the day or purchase an annual pass to Skyline Park at Ponce City Market for unlimited daily access to The ROOF, where you’ll find carnival-style games, mini-golf and more. Hang on to that pass come winter as it’s also good for ice skating.

• Puttshack puts a tech-infused spin on putt-putt, where you don’t have to keep score because the balls do. Adult supervision is required; 18+ after 8 p.m.

• Thrill seekers will love a day spent at Six Flags Over Georgia and can make a splash at Hurricane Harbor after May 25. Visit in the month of June for the Summer Vibes Festival. Aspiring engineers or those who just love learning how things work will want to visit during CoasterFest Aug. 17 and 18.

• Andretti Indoor Karting and Games allows guests to get behind the wheel, whether or not they have a state-issued license. There’s also a classic arcade, laser tag, VR experience and bowling.

• Ride SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel for a unique view of Downtown 20-stories up and over Centennial Olympic Park.

• The Splatter Studio has two Atlanta locations – Sandy Springs and VirginiaHighland – and both offer guests a liberating and fun immersive art experience. Splatter sessions are for all ages and Acrylic Pour Painting sessions are recommended for ages 13+. Adult supervision required. Every first Saturday at 10 p.m. the Sandy Springs location hosts Black Light Night for glow-in-thedark fun for ages 13+.

• There is nothing more nostalgic than a drive-in movie theater, and Starlight Drive-In Theater has been an Atlanta landmark for more than 70 years. Open seven days a week. Admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children.

• Beat the Bomb Atlanta offers a unique immersive escape room experience where your team of four to six players will gear up in hazmat suits and advance through five high-tech video game rooms to earn time on the bomb clock. Disarm the bomb in the final room or be blasted with paint or foam, depending on your mission. A slime bomb mission is coming soon.

• Invite your teen’s besties to join on a self-directed tour of Atlanta’s Tiny Doors art initiative. Bike the Atlanta Beltline and hit many of them on your tour.

• For IG-worthy photo ops head to “Let’s Fly at Pullman Yards in Atlanta” presented by Balloon Museum, on exhibit at Pullman Yards through June 9. Do it for the content.

FESTIVALS & CELEBRATIONS

Atlanta loves to celebrate and not just the holidays. Annual summer festivals include the Butterfly Festival (celebrating its 25th year at Chattahoochee Nature Center) as well as Virginia-Highland Summerfest, Piedmont Park Summer Arts Festival and Grant Park Summer

Shade Festival. Film lovers and movie buffs will want to visit the Atlanta Underground Film Festival or attend a panel discussion at BronzeLens Film Festival. Here are some other celebrations around the A this summer.

• Atlanta History Center celebrates Juneteenth with special programming and explores the legacy of one of baseball’s greatest players, Henry Aaron. The exhibit will be open until September 2025.

• Visit Piedmont Park June 21 through 23 for the Juneteenth Atlanta Parade & Music Festival. The Juneteenth Atlanta 5K Freedom Run takes place June 23.

• It wouldn’t be the Fourth (of July, that is) in Atlanta without the AJC Peachtree Road Race. The world’s largest 10K is back for the 55th year. Run the race, volunteer as a family or spectate from the finish line at Piedmont Park.

AMERICA’S FAVORITE PASTIME

Atlanta summer sports are HOT.

• New updates at Truist Park and The Battery make root, root, rooting for the home team even more enjoyable. Cheer for the Atlanta Braves from the Blue Moon Beer Garden, which received a major renovation and includes beer and food pairings you won’t find elsewhere in the park. Jim Beam Bourbon Decks is a new group space in left field that includes private access to two bars with a combined length of 60 feet 6 inches to mirror the distance between the pitcher’s mound and home plate.

• Taste of Truist Park & The Battery Atlanta Food Tours offer baseball fans and foodies a unique opportunity. Guided tours take place on Thursdays at 12:30 p.m., beginning with a toast in the press box and a visit to the dugout before a food tour of The Battery. Tours last around two hours.

• Soccer season continues through summer with Atlanta United FC home games taking place at MercedesBenz Stadium. Visit the website for promotional offers. Pre-order Father’s Day tickets by June 1 for a commemorative tailgate chair.

With all there is to do in Atlanta, it really is going to be the best summer vacation.

ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN

Atlanta Botanical Garden is a 30-acre oasis featuring an exceptional collection of flora. It hosts children’s programs, chef events and special exhibitions such as the highly anticipated “Alice’s Wonderland Returns” (May 11 – Sept. 15), featuring installations of 38 gigantic topiary-like pieces.

THE BREMAN

The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum is dedicated to Jewish history, culture and arts, emphasizing Jewish life in the South. In addition to the permanent exhibits, The Breman hosts cultural and artistic events such as “There’s No Business Like Show Business - A Tribute To Irving Berlin” (June 2).

ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER

The 33-acre Atlanta History Center is home to historic houses, gardens and award-winning exhibits. Visitors can attend author talks, family days and special events this summer, including a celebration of togetherness on Juneteenth. The center is hosting an exhibit featuring the work of interior designer Ruby Ross Wood (through June 30), which includes a collection of her designs, photos and documents. Another new exhibit, “More Than Brave”, celebrates the life and legacy of Hall of Fame baseball player and civil rights icon Hank Aaron (through September 2025).

FERNBANK MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Fernbank Museum guests can enjoy a whole day in the indoor/outdoor handson museum exploring dinosaurs, prehistoric cultures and scientific discoveries. Exhibits and events to enjoy this summer include the outdoor showcase, “Flora, Fauna and Flight” (through June 23). Fernbank also welcomes the special exhibit, “A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature” (June 8 – Sept. 9). It immerses guests in a lifesize mirror maze and includes hands-on activities and digital elements focused on patterns found in the natural world.

CENTER FOR PUPPETRY ARTS

Center for Puppetry Arts is a fantastic place for indoor family entertainment. See a full-scale, family-friendly production like “The Selfish Giant” (May 24-26). This summer, visitors are reminded that worries are always for another day with the new exhibition, “Down in Fraggle Rock” (May 10 – Nov. 3). Take a deep dive into the history and characters from the 1980s and 2022 versions of Fraggle Rock universe.

JIMMY CARTER PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum resides on 35 acres. Visitors can learn more about the 39th president, his family and accomplishments through hands-on exhibits, author visits and educational events.

The current exhibition, “The Negro Motorist Green Book” (through June 23), includes relics, footage and personal accounts to illustrate the fear and resilience felt by African American travelers during the 1940s and 1950s.

HIGH MUSEUM OF ART

STONE MOUNTAIN PARK

Celebrate the best outdoor summer fun at Stone Mountain Park this season with engaging activities throughout 3,200 acres of natural beauty. Summer at the Rock (June 8 – July 28) invites guests to cool off with the new Water Works show. Young visitors will like “The Tales of Frog and Fish” puppet show. Check out the Spray Ground activity zone, Foam Zone, plus other activities like SkyHike, Summit SkyRide, Adventure Golf and the Scenic Railroad. This year, Stone Mountain Park will also debut a Bollywood Indian Festival (Aug. 10-11 and 17-18).

High Museum of Art features two compelling new exhibits to explore this summer and beyond. “Dutch Art in a Global Age: Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston” (through July 14) features art by Rembrandt and others. This exhibition includes works that showcase the positive side of a wealthy, global culture juxtaposed with the dark side of prosperity. In “Patterns in Abstraction: Black Quilts from the High’s Collection” (June 28 – Jan. 5, 2025), many works will be on view for the first time. The exhibition includes pieces made by quilters in the Southeastern United States including well-known quilters from Gee’s Bend, Ala., and Atlanta. Continued on page 12

MUSEUM OF DESIGN ATLANTA

Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) is the only museum in the Southeast dedicated exclusively to design. Visit this summer for its newest exhibit, “Al Dente: The Design of Pasta” (through Sept. 1). This exhibition lets visitors explore the intricate designs, history and cultural significance of pasta and Italian culture.

Want to change your perspective? The Museum of Illusions at Atlantic Station will teach you that nothing is what it seems. Stop by this summer to be immersed in an intriguing visual, sensory and educational experience. The illusion rooms and mind-bending installations may be mesmerizing and disconcerting at the same time.

LEGO DISCOVERY CENTER ATLANTA

LEGO Discovery Center in Phipps Plaza has been refreshed and is ready for a summer of LEGO-building fun. When outdoor play gets too hot, come to the home of imagination, where families can immerse themselves in innovative learning-through-play activities with games, rides and more than two million multi-colored LEGOS.

MICHAEL C. CARLOS MUSEUM

Visit the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University to explore the art and history of cultures worldwide. Plan to take a break at the second location of Golden Drops Café, which will open at the Carlos Museum in August.

ZOO ATLANTA

The zoo is home to hundreds of animals representing more than 200 species worldwide, many endangered or critically endangered. Look for special events this summer, including adult-focused fun at Brew at the Zoo (May 25), Art Gone Wild Artist Market (June 15) and Savanna Nights (June 21, July 19, Aug. 9) and family fun, including Grossology Day (July 14) and Wild World Weekend (July 27 and 28). Add a Wild Encounter behind-the-scenes experience with Zoo Atlanta’s Giant Pandas, elephants, tortoises, lemurs, warthogs and more for an extra special visit.

EXTRA FUN AT ATLANTA’S AFTER-HOUR EVENTS

Georgia Aquarium: Enjoy Sound Waves every weeknight in June from 6 to 9 p.m. and 20,000 Beers Under the Sea (June 30).

Atlanta History Center: Party with the Past is back, this time at Pullman Yards. Come to this free event on May 15 to reconnect with Atlanta’s past. On June 17, at Atlanta History Center, author Doris Kearns Goodwin weaves together biography, memoir and history as she speaks about her book “An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s.”

Fernbank Museum of Natural History: Fernbank After Dark (May 10 and June 14) is an opportunity for young adults to gain afterhours access to all exhibitions and activities. It features live music, full bars, tapas, science demonstrations and more.

High Museum of Art: On the first, second and third Fridays of each month, the High stays open late for visitors to enjoy art and music. The first Saturday features music, the second focuses on yoga and the third is all about jazz. These events allow adults to enjoy drinks, music and art in unique ways.

Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum: On May 29, the Carter Library presents the thoughts of Sebastian Junger, author of “In My Time of Dying.”

Zoo Atlanta: Kids can enjoy after-hours fun in the panda-themed Family Nightcrawler overnight experience (June 7 and July 6). Families with children ages 6 and older can spend the night at Zoo Atlanta for an evening no one will soon forget.

National Center for Civil and Human Rights: Combine dancing, cocktails and conversation, and connect with history and each other on the summer edition of Truth on the Rocks (date TBD).

BronzeLens Film Festival

Dedicated to promoting Atlanta as a film mecca for people of color, the 15th annual BronzeLens Film Festival will offer daily screenings by independent filmmakers from across the globe, many new works, panel discussions, enrichment workshops and the glamorous BronzeLens Awards. Events will be held Aug. 21-25 in multiple venues across the city.

Coca-Cola Film Festival

Each summer, the Fox Theatre in Midtown offers a special treat of summer films shown inside the cool respite of the 1929 opulent theater. This year, the festival takes place Aug. 23-25 with five films that include “Beetlejuice” and classic films on Sunday in the family friendly lineup.

Movies on the Square

Colony Square, located in Midtown on Peachtree Street, hosts film classics on its outdoor screen on select Thursdays through October, starting at 7 p.m. June 6 brings “Father of the Bride” while July 11 presents “Shrek.” Seating is first come, first served and takeout from surrounding restaurants is encouraged.

The Green at Phipps Plaza

The Green at Citizens Market Food Hall, located at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, has a new outdoor HD screen and will offer outdoor movies during the summer season. The Green will also show sporting events like the French Open,

Atlanta Shortsfest

In its 15th year, the city’s short film festival is held at Limelight Theater June-21-23. Expect a truly diverse mix of short films by filmmakers from around the world as the festival highlights the top shorts of the year.

Atlanta Underground Film Festival

Known as the home of future cult classics since 2004, the Atlanta Underground Film Festival happens this summer Aug. 16-18. The Limelight Theater hosts this event that highlights independent filmmakers and encourages them to think outside of the box.

A Night of Latine Filmmakers

On June 8, Atlanta Film Party and Cafecito Productions will present a night of Latine-made films starting at 8 p.m. at Downtown Switchyards.

Let the music move you at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center while enjoying live music on the lawn. You’re in for a good time at Jazz on the Lawn running through the fall and highlighting local jazz performers.

This is a kid-friendly restaurant on the Westside where you order your pizza from a small menu, head over to the “kitchen,” find a seat at a communal table where kids can watch the pizzas being made and let kids go at it.

Bantam + Biddy

Brunch away at this casual familyfriendly restaurant, with the original location in Midtown at Ansley Mall. The menu offers great choices for those who dig the pancakes and waffles or for those who seek the savory side. Make sure to try the iconic chicken, whether you get it fried, roasted or in a stew.

Chicheria Mexican Kitchen

Found at The Works on the Westside, Chicheria offers great options for kids. The rice is a kid favorite, accompanied by refried beans. The friendly staff does a fantastic job at treating kids like any other of their guests, making them feel heard and welcomed.

El Ponce

Yes, most Mexican restaurants offer the rice, beans and quesadilla staples, but they don’t all taste the same. At El Ponce in the Poncey-Highland neighborhood, the food is made with love that you can taste. Grab a table on the patio on a good sunny day and let the kids try some favorites like the sopa de pollo, the carne asada or let them adventure out to a tamal.

El Tesoro

El Tesoro feels like walking into a friend’s backyard party. Order, sit down and let your kid play with others as if technology did not exist. Tablets are a thing of the past as the kiddos get their hands dirty on the dirt and gravel, climb the big tree and negotiate among each other a game of 4 in a Row. The menu has endless options for adventurous kids and a niños quesadilla, which is a solid choice for picky eaters.

Grana

Pasta will never be the same after your kids try the hand-crafted pasta at Grana. Chef Pat Pascarella has young kids of his own who are probably his biggest critics, and they are doing a great job. Making

pasta the same way he grew up eating it in an Italian family, Pascarella elevates the experience and creates the future pasta snobs of our society. We are OK with that. Eat up.

Hartley Kitchen

Located inside Kimpton Shane Hotel in Midtown, Hartley Kitchen offers chefinspired menu options for kids. Chef de cuisine Travis Cintron has a 5-year-old at home, so he takes things seriously when it comes to offering fresh and delicious food options that kids will enjoy. From chicken to freshly made pasta and vegetables, even parents will want to steal a bite or two.

Little Rey

Afternoons after school, Little Rey is full of families. It’s a laid-back environment for kids and adults to enjoy some incredible Tex-Mex favorites. Get in line, order and then find your table. The restaurant is known for chicken, so go for the pollo asado or get it in a taco or a salad. Kids have a special menu with tasty options, but the main menu also offers plenty of choices. Leave room for the soft-serve ice cream.

Pick from many pizza options or choose the wings, which are hands-down some of the best in the city. Find Mellow Mushroom in many locations including Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead.

Pancake Social

Take a break from pancake-chef-duty on Saturday morning and head over to Pancake Social. While the Ponce City Market location often has a wait time, the newly opened location at Westside Paper tends to be easier to get into when you are on borrowed time with your kid’s patience. Of course, there are pancakes - lots of them. Your family will also have choices like scrambled eggs, bacon and the tasty crispy buttermilk chicken.

Pollo Primo

Order a California-style pollo asado and share it family-style with your kids. Get some of the kids’ favorite sides, such as rice, beans and the chips with guacamole. Everyone can make their tacos and the experience will involve everyone in the family in a relaxed environment. Leave some room for churros.

R. Thomas Deluxe Grill

Will your kids get excited about greeting birds before grabbing food? If the answer is yes, then this is the place for you. With a diverse menu full of options for all appetites, R. Thomas Deluxe Grill in Buckhead is sure to please everyone in your party. There are kid-friendly-sized dishes, smoothies and plenty of things – such as talking birds –to keep them distracted.

Recess

Recess offers a kid’s bowl with the option to create their own based on what your kid likes. Choose from options like Spanish rice, black beans, sweet potato, broccoli and chicken. The chorizo is a fan favorite. Grab and go, or stay to enjoy the indoor or outdoor seating. Two locations are Krog Street Market and Buckhead Village.

El Santo Gallo

In a relaxing and laid-back environment on the Westside, order some tacos for the family and find a seat inside to play a maquinita while you wait, or find a seat outside to enjoy the sun while kids safely play. Kids will love the tortillas, as they are made from quality imported nixtamalized corn, and the tender carne asada is perfectly seasoned. As a plus, kids will get to see a real taquero in action cutting up the meat and making lots of tacos at once.

Souper Jenny

Souper Jenny has a lot of delightful options. The PB&J here is special, but you can always make a little belly happy with the turkey chili, a turkey sandwich and fresh fruit. For a little treat, get the chocolate cookie to end the experience. Souper Jenny has various locations, but the location on Huff Road on the Westside is a favorite for kids due to its fun patio space.

Superica

Sunday brunch with kids is done right at Superica. With deliciously seasoned pulled chicken inside, the quesadilla

comes with a side of rice and beans. The double stack of hot cakes and a tropical fruit salad will round out the meal and who doesn’t love a bowl of queso? Locations are found in Krog Street Market, Westside, Buckhead and a few other places around the city.

Treehouse Restaurant and Pub

Treehouse Restaurant and Pub is a fun and eclectic place to enjoy a meal with kids. It’s no problem if your kid wants to eat food with their hands, and there are plenty of tasty options for all varieties of palates. There is much to see and no shortage of things to eat.

Father’s Day is a perfect time to celebrate Dad with one of Atlanta’s finest foods: chicken wings. Atlanta is known for its lemon pepper wings, and they are a must-try when coming to the city. My dad and I tried every place on this list and here are some of the top places we recommend.

American Deli

Even though J.R. Crickets made it popular, American Deli was the original home of the lemon pepper wet wings. The deli also has other unique flavors such as sweet chili and Family Gold.

The Bando

In the Westside, you can find The Bando. From the outside, it looks like a closed and abandoned building, but inside, it is decorated with classic ‘90s decor, CDs and memorabilia. The Bando serves options in addition to its famous crack wings. These include deep-fried Oreos, hot dogs and Bando Punch. Try the wings slathered in Strawberry Hot or Honey Butter.

Clay’s Sports Cafe

Clay’s has unique wing flavors such as

honey BBQ, garlic Parmesan and honey mustard. The small restaurant also has options for non-wing loving friends such as wood-fired pizza and sandwiches. Though Clay’s is outside of Atlanta in Sandy Springs, it’s been listed on many top wings lists and is worth the drive.

Heirloom

Market BBQ

At Heirloom Market, you can find the signature smoked wings, including many other flavors. Heirloom is takeout only, but the Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded restaurant does have a couple of tables out front.

In Midtown, find J.R. Crickets. Made famous for its lemon pepper wet wings featured on “Atlanta,” J.R. Crickets also serves buffalo teriyaki and two different

Twin Smokers BBQ

Near Mercedes-Benz Stadium Downtown, Twin Smokers offers a savory, smoked barbecue. With two different smokers (named Elizabeth and Matthew), the restaurant is able to give its smoked wings a unique taste by using a different type of wood to smoke the barbeque. Check out the Wood Library at the entrance and also try the mesquite smoked brisket, charro beans and banana pudding.

Stop at Ponce City Market for a treat from Honeysuckle Gelato, with flavors such as red velvet cake, salted caramel brownie and pistachio. Honeysuckle Gelato also offers seasonal flavors. When you buy from Honeysuckle Gelato you give back to the community as the local store donates a portion of its proceeds to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Visit the test kitchen for a first look at new flavors at Lee+White, located on the Westside Atlanta Beltline.

PanPaleta

Off of Buford Highway is a little store in Northeast Plaza that sells bread, cakes and paletas, which are Mexican frozen treats on sticks. PanPaleta offers flavors like coffee, mango chile and strawberry kiwi. Try out your treats at a table in the store with lively music and colorful pinatas hanging from the ceiling.

Jake’s Ice Cream

Jake’s will soon open a new location inside of Village Provisions on Highland Avenue, slated for mid-June. Some of the flavors include Brown Shugah Vanilla, Key Lime Piescream and Chocolate Slap Yo Mama, and a special Juneteenth flavor, Brown Shugah Vanilla with chocolate and caramel swirls. The local shop has an outdoor patio next to the Freedom Park Trail so you can get ice cream and get right back on the path. One more location is found in Hapeville near the airport.

King of Pops

King of Pops is an Atlanta tradition with flavors such as chocolate sea salt and strawberry lemonade. You can find King of Pops at events such as festivals and Atlanta Braves games as well as at local shops. No surprise, there is a King of Pops Bar at Ponce City Market.

Sweet Stack Creamery

Check out Sweet Stack Creamery in downtown Atlanta. The small shop serves ice cream and doughnut sandwiches (Sweet Stacks) with crazy combinations of flavors such as Cuban Coffee Cream (made with Cafe Bustelo espresso ground coffee) and Birthday Cake (cake-flavored ice cream with sprinkles and blue frosting). Sweet Stack also offers fun toppings and vegan options such as French Press.

Butter and Cream

The Decatur shop offers flavors such as Midnight Snacks (sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese ice cream with chocolate chip cookies, brownies, chocolate-covered cake pieces and a dulce de leche swirl) and Honeycomb Forest (honey ice cream with honeycomb candy). Try an ice cream sandwich or purchase a pumpkin honey pup cup for your furry friend.

In Summerhill, Big Softie offers Sammies (ice cream between two freshly baked cookies from Little Tart Bakery) and ice cream in classic flavors like vanilla and chocolate. However, the thing that makes it different is the toppings, such as milk chocolate crunch pearls and passionfruit hardshell.

You wouldn’t expect a hotel to have good, local frozen treats but at Signia by Hilton Atlanta downtown, you can find homemade gelato at Capolinea restaurant and ice cream and sorbet in the Friendship Market. At Capolinea, try flavors such as straciallea, amarenna cherry and gorgonzola dolce gelato. At the market, discover even more fresh tastes such as lemon lavender sorbet, passion fruit mango sorbet and mascarpone strawberry ice cream. Ronald Acuña Jr., Max Fried and the rest of the Atlanta Braves will be in action all summer as America’s pastime rolls into Truist Park at The Battery. There are plenty of promotions to enjoy, starting with the Braves Country 5K on June 1 with registration ending on May 31. The first 3,000 kids through the gates on June 2 will be treated to a pair of stylish sunglasses. June 14-16 is Play Ball Weekend, which will give aspiring young ballplayers an opportunity to display their talent at the ballpark. June 17 features a belt bag giveaway, while June 18’s Pride Night offers a ticket package that includes a pregame party and a free T-shirt with a portion of the funds from each package going toward The OUT Georgia Impact Fund. Other promotions include Georgia Tribe Night on June 29; Michael Harris II Bobblehead Night on July 3; Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Night on July 20; Orlando Arcia Chain Night on July 23; Ronald Acuña Jr. Bobblehead Night on Aug.1; and HBCU Night on July 22.

Giorgos Giakoumakis and Thiago Almada are back in action for Atlanta United FC as they continue to take on the best that MLS has to offer at 2024 Copa America and 2026 FIFA World Cup-venue Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Every United game is an event but special games include Pride Night on June 2 against I-85 rivals Charlotte FC; Father’s Day on both June 15 and June 29; discounted seating for all First Responders for the July 17 match against NYCFC; and Military Appreciation Night on July 20 against the defending MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew. Even if you can’t make it to the stadium or Atlanta United FC just happens to be playing on the road, you can take in the action at one of the many Atlanta United FC pub partners across the Atlanta metro area.

edition. In addition to being one of the world’s top road racing events, the Peachtree Road Race is doing more than ever to serve aspiring young runners as well. The Microsoft Peachtree Junior event on July 3 will be free for all kids as Microsoft is covering all registration fees as the event’s sponsor. Meanwhile, the main event will now have an Elite High School division that will include the top high school runners from Georgia who are graduating in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Atlanta Dream

With season tickets starting at $20 per game, every Atlanta Dream game at the Gateway Arena Center at College Park feels like a court-side affair. The Dream will be hoping that head coach Tanisha Wright and WNBA All-Star Rhyne Howard can help bring them back to the playoffs for another season. This season’s summer home schedule for the Dream includes two home games against the back-to-back WNBA Champions Las Vegas Aces (May 31 and July 12), two visits from Sabrina Lonescu and the New

York Liberty (June 23 and June 30) and a highly anticipated visit from Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever on June 21.

TOUR Championship

The PGA Tour’s annual curtain-closer is back for another go, as East Lake Golf Club will once again host the TOUR Championship. The competition will be heated as usual, as the top 30 players on the tour will be competing for the FedEx Cup title and the 10s of millions of dollars that come along with the honor. Daily grounds tickets for the Aug. 28Sept. 1 event are currently on sale, and it’s highly recommended to buy tickets as soon as possible. New hospitality options include The Centennial Cabins and The Chattahoochee Club and the upscale viewing experiences provided by The Georgian.

MEAC/SWAC Challenge

Tickets are currently on sale for one of college football’s opening extravaganzas: The MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Aug. 24 at Center Parc Stadium in downtown Atlanta. This year, the Norfolk State Spartans will be looking to upset the 2023 Celebration Bowl Champions Florida A&M Rattlers. As usual, there will be plenty to do before the game, such as the High School Seminar on Aug. 22 with ESPN’s Jay Harris hosting the event, the ESPN Welcome Reception on Aug. 23 and then the Coca-Cola Fan Experience starting at 3 p.m. on the day of the game. The Fan Experience will run until 6:30 p.m., with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Even after the game ends, make sure to stick around for the 5th Quarter Battle of the Bands, which is as much of a must-see event as the football game will surely be.

Atlanta Roller Derby

The rough-and-tumble action of roller derby is rumbling at the Woodruff Athletic Complex at Agnes Scott College this season. In fact, it’s the landmark 20th season for ARD and this is as good of a time as any to check things out. Game Days this summer include Pride Night on June 8 and bouts on July 27 and Aug. 24 as well. Tickets for single games go for $18 in advance and $20 the day-of, while prices for doubleheaders go for $30 in advance and $35 on the same day. With prices like that, it’s definitely worth getting a general admission seat to the action –just make sure to avoid any roller derby athletes accidentally getting sent flying your way while you’re in attendance.

Aflac Kickoff Game

The Aflac Kickoff Game promises to be an exciting event, happening on Aug. 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Labor Day weekend starts off with a bang as Georgia takes on Clemson in a classic annual matchup that ushers in the fall college football season.

Copa América 2024

Atlanta will be the opening venue for Copa América 2024, the world’s oldest soccer competition for National Teams. Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host the opening match on June 20, marking the start of the 48th edition of this exciting competition.

Chelsea F.C. vs Club América

Get ready for more soccer action as Chelsea F.C. and Club América compete at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on July 31.This elite international soccer match pits two powerhouse teams together to battle it out in an exciting summer face off.
