Why land based?

The growing world population demands highly sustainable food production to reduce GHG emissions and answer to the climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement. Traditional sea based aquaculture are experiencing rising issues such as volume constraints due to biological challenges and regulations. At the same time there is a a global increase in demand for salmon, and simultaneously an increase in the price of salmon.

Smart Salmon will contribute to solve these issues by producing an eco-friendly salmon in a land based aquaculture farm in France.

The project Smart Salmon is working towards implementing a highly productive and sustainable land based aquaculture project for salmon farming in France.

Benefits to society With the implementation of a land based aquaculture project for salmon farming, Smart Salmon will bring France to the forefront of innovation and sustainability when it comes to the aquaculture industry.

National Smart Salmon will introduce a new, sustainable aquaculture industry for food production based on the ESG philosophy.

The facility will benefit from state-of-the-art energy efficient production methods using solar energy and the carbon footprint will be minimal.

The project is aligned with the European Green Deal and may contribute to a green and innovative profile for french aquaculture.
