yoga mandir semester 3 space making studio site : ernakulam The semester 3 studio explored ways of space making by designing a space for learning at ernakulam enabling us to read,observe and respond to the specification of the provided site. To tackle the multiple design approaches, several parameters were explored through many iterations so that it can be layered upon one another to create the final refined design.

Exploring the art of space-making in my third-semester architecture project – Yoga Mandir. From initial model experiments to site-inspired adjustments, I envisioned a harmonious blend of tranquility and community. The organic, circular form of the yoga hall reflects my belief in a serene practice environment, extending to the cafeteria. A connecting pathway weaves it all together, while the innovative roof design not only offers accessibility but also introduces natural illumination, creating a space that resonates with both purpose and aesthetics.

Embarking on my semester 3 project was an eye-opening journey into the intricacies of space-making. I chose an unconventional starting point – the roof – and watched as my designs organically unfolded, leading to the creation of a captivating pathway and the final architectural masterpiece. This unique approach highlighted the interconnectedness of space within my design philosophy. Learning the art of model making throughout the studio added a tangible aspect to my creative process, providing hands-on experience. It’s not just a project; it’s a testament to my dedication to exploring innovative design concepts and honing essential skills in the realm of architecture.

the earthling semester 4 land building relationship site : vagamon The semester 4 explored on how buildings form a relationship with the land and vice-versa, and how landscape create architecture rooted in its context, and sensitive to the site by designing a rejuvination centre. We learnt to refine architecture and its interaction with the landscape by considering spatial organisation, environmental context and structural necessity. We understood the site context and tried to reciprocate in a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach. 16

The initial steps involved exploring different sections through sketches and creating a sectional model using millboard material. Subsequently, I embarked on three iterations, each inspired by distinct landscapes: one along the lake, another immersed in a lush forest setting, and the third perched atop a breathtaking cliff. These iterations served as pivotal stages in refining and evolving the design concept.

In this studio, I explored different ways to work with land, especially for my cliffside resort project. I learned how to use wide terrains and mix different landscapes on our vast site. The coolest part was discovering how to create spaces underground, which became a big part of my resort design. One important thing I realized is that rejuvenation isn’t just about the physical spaces but also about the paths people take. So, I see the journey to the resort as a rejuvenating experience in itself, offering relaxation and renewal along the way.

primary health centre semester 5 climate responsive studio site : bodinayakkannur, tamil nadu The semester 5 studio urges the resolution of the the design project keeping climate response at the forefront. The primary focus of the studio was to achieve thermal comfort in a harsh climate. The proposed project enabled us to understand the need for climate responsive buildings and also to analyze building performances both qualitatively and quantitatively. 24

rhino outputs these are some important analyses and 3D model done using Rhinoceros software for the project. It demonstrates how I used it to study incident radiation, wind patterns using Flow RT, and daylight distribution. These analyses helped me design buildings that work better with the environment, considering factors like sunlight, wind flow, and natural light inside the spaces.

In this studio, we focused on designing while considering the weather. My project was in a foggy place with strong winds and moisture issues. To solve this, I made walls that block the wind but let light in. I also planted trees to handle the moisture. I learned a lot about designing buildings that work well with the weather. Using Rhinoceros software, I could figure out how to make buildings that fit the climate better. It was eyeopening to see how important it is to design with the weather in mind

This studio emphasizes the exploration of materials like red brick, stone for walls, and steel or wood for roofs. It also focuses on mastering the creation of detailed working drawings essential for architectural designs.

The project, the ‘SEED Downtown Campus’ extension in Kochi, was a highlight. The design emphasized a welcoming entrance leading to shaded blocks within the campus. I replicated these shapes across other blocks and incorporated curved edges, believing they create intrigue and enhance spatial perception. This approach gave rise to the unique feature of the ‘foam,’ utilizing curves to evoke surprise and widen perspectives within the rooms.

This involved an in-depth analysis where we meticulously documented every aspect of the church, including intricate details like the precise count of stones used in its construction. 40

The study aimed to understand and catalog the nuances of architectural elements and construction techniques employed in this significant structure, providing a rich foundation for our subsequent studies and designs in the detailing studio. I actively contributed to this documentation by creating plans, detailing, and refining all drawings.
