The objectives of this project is to raise awareness of the varying themes relating to sustainability. Apart from that, it is to identify & respond to a specific user group needs in farming. Other than that, this project is to allow me de sign an environmentally friendly solution set for different scales emphasising its modularity.Lastly, this project to allow the concept communicate trhough graphical representation.

THE PRODUCT

OBJECTIVES

As an introductory project, as a group of 4 students, we proposed a scheme of creating an energy saving modular product design to fit within the sus tainable environmemt. The proposed product design is to use sunlight as an energy source that channels through the dye synthesised triangular module functions as an energy absorbant panels. It works as a lighting equipment that lights up at night. The brilliance of the lighting can be increased or decreased by removing its module.

ARCHITECTURAL THEORIES

"IT IS NECESSARY TO PRESS On towards establishment of standards in order to face the problem of perfection." - Le Corbusier; 1986

PARTHENON

LEARNING OUTCOMES Throughout the learning process on gaining knowledge of architectural ideologies & theories, I have gain the ability of describing the theoretical issues related to design based on the study of architecture & urbanism & its related studies. Apart from that, I have applied the relations of architectur al theories to contemporary architecture & urban forms.

PARTHENON, ATHENS, GREECE; 447 - 434 BC.The parthenon is the building which Le Corbusier argued it had been standardised in all its part. From this, he enhanced his views on the necessity of standardisation in architecture. For Parthenon, each part of the columns are decisive & marks the highest pont in precsion & execution is clearly written therein. therefore, Le Corbusier states that Phidias, who is the architect of Parthenon would have loved to lived in this standardised age.

Theme: ‘Less is more’ Architecture of complexity & contradiction, embody the difficult unity of inclusion rather than the easy unity of exclusion.

Theme: ‘The Task of Architecture’ Buildings & towns enable us to structure, understand & remember the shapeless flow of reality &, ultimately, to recognise & remember who we are. - Juhani pallasma; 2005

BIG DUCK Big duck; 1931. Robert venturi further enhanced hid design by creating a form with space informed by its signs as well as its function. This is explained with the symbolic duck building playing the role as a shop selling ducks & duck egges.

CHURCH OF LIGHT Church of light; tadao anda. This structure resembles the technology of the cureent epoch. It represents the simplistic characteristic practiced in japanese architecture as well as portray their culture in clean lines and designs. It refelect Japan itself.

THEORISING A NEW AGENDA FOR ARCHITECTURE

Theme: ‘automobile’

THE EYES OF THE SKIN

The objective of this task is to identify the key points through architectural readings as well as use appropriate architectural terminologies along with relevance of architecture or urban design to illustrate theory. In a group, we were assigned to present synopsis of each architectural reading to present our understanding on each theme.

COMPLEXITY & CONTRADICTION IN ARCHITECTURE

OBJECTIVES

TOWARDS A NEW ARCHITECTURE

SYNOPSIS

Theme: ‘Semiotics & Architecture’ In the last twenty years the production of theories of architecture & design has dramatically accelerated in a way that emphasise the particular rule of architectural theory as it has been continously develop over five minutes. - 1965

MEMORIAL TO THE MURDERED JEWS OF EUROPE Memorial to the murdered jews of europe; peter eisenman. Architecture in the modern days have used linguistic & semiotic models, yet with the exception of a few distinguishing precedence. This methodology on the memorial does not appeal as positive nor negative sequence. The source for this miscarriage is because of the lack of linguistic & semiotic comprehension that appeals to the massess & architecture itself. The author allude the readers that it is significant to elevate the linguistic & semiotic theory in architectrue as a development process.

PROJECT 2 THEORETICAL STUDIES

RESEARCH STUDY: INTERVIEW WITH AN ARCHITECT

THE ARCHITECT

OBJECTIVES The objective of this task is to present an in-depth udnerstanding & analytical research study on the designated topic. In a group of three students, we are assigned to select an architect & review their works to elaborate the architect's application of theory in architecture & urban design. We have interviewed an architect & produced an analysis of key influences relating to the architect's input of process design and inspirations.

Born on the 6th of January in Penang year 1966, Azmil Abdul Azmi, an architect for over twenty years standing, has been passionate about the idea of arts & design. Growing up in Cameron highlands to a stay home mother and a father of an officer, he had shaped his interests with his love towards the nature. It wa the surrounding of the hills that influenced him which made him appreciate space. As a child he always questioned 'Why am I going to be there?' among the green hills. It is a subconscious thing that brought him to the beauty of nature. During his days of kindergarten, he discovered that he could draw 3D, translating flat images into perspective. Subconsciously, he looked through art books of vanishing point without realising that it was perspective. I described him as 'a man of simplicity'. The architect, links his ideas which are mainly inspired by Alvar Aalto, a Finnish architect & designer in a form of sophisticated simplicity. He lives with the quote 'We should work for simple, good, undecorated things'Alvar Aalto; Speech in London, 1957. Azmil holds onto the idea of things created with harmony between the human beings & fit into its organically sculpted street.

LEARNING OUTCOMES Throughout this task, I have described the theoretical issue related to the architect's designs based on the study or architecture & urbanism along with its related studies. Apart from that, I have applied & relate the architectural theories found in a specific building design within the urban forms & contemporary architecture. I have also analysed the architectural tehories used by the architect with a critical interpretation of architecture & urbanism in relevance to the contemporary course of architecture.

PROJECT 3 THE HYPERTEXT

OBJECTIVES The objective of this project is to produce a hypertext based on the selected work of the interviewed architect & lay it out conceptually. The research study is to provide the contextual background & an understanding that creates the whole design process. The studies are analysed based on its original influences & philosophy; application of both theory & architecture

LEARNING OUTCOMES Throughout this project, I have described the theoretical issues related to deisgn based on the study of architecture & urbanism. I have also identified the different architectural theories used that forms the architecture & urban design. Lastly, I have analysed the relationship between architecture & society, cultura & intellectual context & surrounding.
